  1. Cool, I want to start breeding in S/M too but I'm still SRing for good natures, IVs and hidden powers for all gift/stationary pokemon.

I'll gladly take a Mimikyu, thank you for doing this.

  2. I'm not sure if Solaris would go as far as to kill Taka, but he does say that he feels forced to involve Lin at this point, and Lin might very well feel like Taka has screwed up one too many times. If she learns that Taka helped the PC, why would she spare him?

He's only useful to Solaris due to this whole "protect the land" and "descendants of an ancient civilization" stuff, but since it's already established by Sirius that Lin has different goals than Solaris, an Admin who screws up like this would definitely not be useful to her.

So IMO, if what you said is right and the next person to bite the dust is a Meteor character who gets punished for their failures, then Taka seems the most likely, because he has recently screwed up big time (not just failed to stop the player like Blake and Fern, but helped us), and from Lin's perspective there does not seem to be any redeeming quality to him.

The other higher-ups are at least still useful to Lin in some way.

You're right, not to mention that Lin appears to have some sort of telepathic ability a bit skin to Lord Voldemort in HP, so she could know what Taka did. Unless the decision whether or not to battle Taka somehow influences whether the Meteors know what he did or not, and would decide his fate - which would be really cool. But since we KNOW that someone will die, either that happens later, or Taka dies regardless of our actions (which would make our decision whether to battle him or not pointless) or someone else dies entirely. Which is why I don't really like the idea of him dying.

UNLESS Ame said someone will die but it could be different people based on our decisions: either Taka dies if we didn't battle him, or someone else (Solaris, Fern, Blake, who knows) gets punished otherwise.

  3. I think Fern and Blake's usefulness has expired for the story since we already battled them several times. Besides Team Meteor and Lin will be pretty annoyed at their failure and apparent carelessness/disrespect.

Since only one will die I predict Lin will kill one of the two in front of the other, so that the surviving one understands that it's not a game and gets his shit together. I hope Blake dies because his character is less developed than Fern.

Another possibility is simply that Solaris gets killed by Lin since they don't seem to share their world view and Solaris is kind of an outsider now.

Or Taka gets killed by Solaris himself, although that's just crazy.

Basically somebody in Team Meteor will pay for their recent failures. I think it's too soon for Dr. Sigmund to die because clearly some other characters deserve Lin's wrath more at this point.

  4. I have tears in my eyes as I write this, but it's a decision that was long overdue, and I couldn't keep avoiding it forever, so here is:

I've turned 25 this month, and these past weeks have been realizing just how much I had wasted my life away in video game addiction, internet addiction, and wanting to get away from real life in general.

I've made a series of decisions that have changed my life drastically. I can't remember the last time I felt this good. Now that I got rid of this "internet life", I am truly able to enjoy the real one, but it came at a very big price to pay.

I hate giving up projects. Even though my progress over the last year in this game was excruciatingly slow, I never gave up and kept hoping for better days. I still very much think that this could have been a great game, and that I was capable of doing it, as I've shown until now -bugs aside as those can be fixed by some rounds of testing.

I can't say I'll never work on this game anymore ever, although it's likely. I hate saying "never", and I hate quitting, but I have to learn to quit if things get unhealthy, as they are now. If I ever wanted to get back at this however, I would do two things different:

    1) I would assemble a team of people to work on the game together. I can do everything on my own. But it's too slow that way, and also the result is of poorer quality. A game is a serious project, and I was insane to think I could get a game of the quantity and quality that I wanted- by doing it all alone.

    2) I'm the creator of this game, and I have a name in real life. The fact that I was unable to acknowledge that by putting it in the credits, shows that I struggle to be proud with this game. A project that I'm not proud of is destined to fail.

I know I've let you down, and I wanna thank all of you for supporting me through the last year or so. I will not hang around on this forum, so if you have questions or just want to contact me, best send me an email at AshPantherG@gmail.com. Pokemon Reborn is truly an incredible game, the one that inspired me to create my own fangame, and the community was unbelievable. I wish good luck to Amethyst for finishing her great game, and good luck to all of you in your life. Good bye.

  5. No nooo, don't have to do that xD. It's just me being bored, not the maps fault. I just don't feel motivated by myself atm to do a replay of this. I did start a new file at some point, but a diff from my main one and it corrupted for some reason and i lost it :/. That's why xD. Btw, if you need any inspiration with trainers/gym leaders or anything you could pm me, i'd be glad to help.

I created a status update in the OP. I actually haven't touched the game for almost a month now, so I'm still at the very beginning, and nowhere close to a release. But at least now it's out there, so if you feel like checking my progress you can, and hopefully I'll get around to working on it again soon.

  6. Is there any way we could have a status update of the game :? I'm really excited to move on with it, i liked the concept of it and the way the leveling system works. And honestly, i would restart it over for better chance with pokemon and stuff, but the only thing that deters me is the swamp xD.

sure, why not. maybe it could help motivate me. but if I were to give % of progression, it would be quite approximative. for the swamp, I'll reduce the scolipede's speed for the next release, and perhaps simplify the lotus puzzle a bit.

  7. Though many of you didn't know her, we've already had one trans-girl from this very community take her own life. It was a person I looked up to, who helped me get started when I needed to make a change, and who I regret I was not able to help enough in return.

You can even find her-- or at least, the character she submitted a long time ago-- in Pokemon Reborn.

"Tehehehe, do you think you're ready to best us?"

Sorry, which character is that? I don't remember this line.

Also I usually don't check the forums too much but I came across this topic from Ame's twitter feed. The story touched me, I kept thinking about it the entire day in fact. As a physicist I like to deal with statistics and numbers first and foremost, but this kind of story reminds me that it's good to look at the faces behind the numbers sometimes. Good luck in everything you attempt Ame, and I hope that you'll be able to appreciate everything that life gives you, the good things and the bad things, life is wonderful because each individual's path is unique, and has never been walked before. It should be lived fully until the very end, if only by curiosity.

  8. Interesting, no. I'll have to watch back the footage to see if I actually missed it then or if it just didn't occur.

This was my biggest issue with the game though. I ran into a few different issues like this. Events that clearly had a set path scripted out both in the creator's mind and in the game, but because I did things a slightly different way it essentially broke the game for me.

That's one piece of advice I would make sure to incorporate moving forward. You need to assume that if there IS a way to bypass an important part of the game, a player will find a way especially unintentionally. That level of accountability is mandatory in these games, imo.

thanks, I'll make sure that you are forced to pick up the badge, since indeed getting badges is totally necessary to progress in the game, and I shouldn't leave the choice whether or not to pick it up to the player.

the same thing holds for the running shoes, which you'll be forced to pick up in the next version. I kind of wanted to leave some autonomy to the players, but I have to learn in which situations autonomy is desired and when it is not, lol.

  9. Great topic!

    6) is an interesting point! I wanted to go the Reborn way and create as many events as possible, but having rare Pokemon in the tall grass, or even having "rare" patches of grass with unique Pokemon sounds like a great idea that should be expanded on!

    5) is also great. I had the idea a while back of GTA style collectable items spread across the map that you could find (and that wouldn't be searchable with ItemFinder), and an explicit % of the game beat written somewhere, so that completionists could try to beat the game 100%!

  10. Sweet, checking out other fan games as we wait for the next episode of Reborn and was pretty pleased when I started playing this one.

Started recording as well as there didn't seem to be anyone else doing it.

Anything I should know that isn't obvious from just playing the game?

What's your time frame been like for development for this as well? Just doing it casually as you feel fit or has it been a whole years work thus far with minimal down time?

Would you estimate the next installment to be another bunch of months?

Either way, looking forward to checking out whats available atm. Seems pretty fun. Especially liking the more open world feeling that comes with not being routed through specific gyms.

I started in April/May 2014, 1st episode released in July/August 2014, 2nd in April 2015 and 3rd in July 2015. The version 4 has more content to make than the previous three. There were quite a few times when I didn't work on the game for weeks. Definitely did it casually whenever I felt like it. I'm trying to work faster, which is done by having more experience. But I can't say I'll try to work more, because I'm a student and I have exams. I don't have any estimate, because my motivation is fluctuating heavily, and so is my free time available to work on it. I just don't like making promises that I can't hold. I can say that the version 4 is definitely going to happen sometime, since when I start something I tend to finish it.

Also thanks for the feedback on the game everyone, I take everything that is said into account to try to improve, fix and rebalance the whole thing for v4.

  11. Has anyone managed to beat Mizuki? I raised up the Slugma from the egg the breeder guy gives you thinking I'd be able to beat her Scizor that way, but it can mega evolve and I can barely even handle her Scyther.

(my team is Meowstic, Granbull, Pawniard, Panpour, Slugma, and Vanillish, all at level 35)

There's a new Pokemon available in the current release that should help a lot for Mizuki (you can check the Pokemon availability list in the OP, which I added yesterday). Unfortunately, I made a mistake which wasn't fixed in v3.1, and will require a v3.2, because it's just too big (I'm surprised no one mentioned it):

You can't find any wild Pokemon in the Sawmill or in the Dam Valley, because I forgot to edit the terrain tags...

Also about that list; it made me realise Aegis only offered two Fighting types up to this point... So I'll probably add another one somewhere before releasing v3.2.

  12. Finished the version 3 and i got to say, dam.n is this a buggy game. Good thing i followed the boss's advice and saved way too regularly, but whenever i found a super ball or w/e, error occured. Anyway, the game seems pretty nice so far, a bit difficult and more challenging than the others i've played so far, but playable and enjoyable. Looking forward to the next version.

Intimidate doesn't count as attack reducing move, maybe that's why it doesn't work on defiant, although it does work on competitive.

I think I found all the super balls and replaced them with great balls, but did this also occur with other hidden items?

Also, did you find other bugs that aren't already mentioned in this list?

-talking to Riverside guard with Yellow Pass crashes the game (fixed)

-Metal Guard comes back to his corner after you save him (fixed)

-Text doesn't appear when you receive egg from old lady (fixed)

-Mizuki stays as your double partner even after you beat Clyde (fixed, I think?)

-Graphical glitch on the East Gates, exterior side of the building (fixed)

-you can see your reflection on the water even when there's no water (hard to fix them all)

-Mizuki follows you erratically throughout the dam (almost unfixable, complain to essentials)

-the birds on the roofs are supposed to change according to the weather, but they don't (fixed)

-random water tile below a NPC's feet in North Anura (fixed)

-Miranda doesn't go back to her house (fixed)

-there needs to be a shorter way to cross Dead Town once you cleared the area (fixed)

-there also needs to be a way from Telegraph Hill to Anura (fixed)

    -chikorita event added (done)

-TV channels work without glitch (only 2/4 are completed)

-You don't spawn in front of the MG after talking to Luther (fixed)

-Changed the encounter rate of Pokemon so that no Pokemon has a rate lower than 4% (fixed)

    -Spoink event added (done)

-replaced super balls with great balls (did this everywhere I found a super ball. hope I didn't miss any)

-added a couple more hidden and visible items (done)

If not, then I've fixed everything, so I'll post the v3.1 soon.

  13. After beating the Scolipede and the Metal Guard goes back to the city, he's still there when you exit and come back.

Also his mom was going to give me something but she doesn't give it, and Miranda doesn't go back to her house.

thanks, I have also encountered a couple bugs or graphical glitches while playing myself, which I've fixed. maybe I should make a list so that people only report the new ones.

Anyway for the glitches and fixes for v3.1:

-talking to Riverside guard with Yellow Pass crashes the game (fixed)

-Metal Guard comes back to his corner after you save him (fixed)

-Text doesn't appear when you receive egg from old lady (fixed)

-Mizuki stays as your double partner even after you beat Clyde (fixed, I think?)

-Graphical glitch on the East Gates, exterior side of the building (fixed)

-random water tile below a NPC's feet in North Anura (fixed)

-Miranda doesn't go back to her house (fixed)

-there needs to be a shorter way to cross Dead Town once you cleared the area (fixed)

-there also needs to be a way from Telegraph Hill to Anura (fixed)

  14. Pokemon Aegis v3 is up. You can check the new link in the original post. I expect there to be a certain amount of bugs due to being unable to check everything myself, but if it's too bad I'll upload a v3.1

Also soon I'll start a new savefile from scratch to try to even out the difficulty throughout the game. Also coming soon will be a list of Pokemon and items available in the current release of the game. I've kind of worked on that list already but it's not done yet.

  15. So apparently it's impossible to progress in the story past the point where you talk with your father at the lake, UNLESS it's night. Nighttime is a condition for the story to progress. Don't know how I didn't think this would be a problem, especially since I gave no indication of that.

So what I did was to add an indication, by having your mom say that your dad should be back home from the University sometime that evening, and that he would finally give you that promised Pokemon of yours.

I think it ought to do the trick.

As for Seedot, you can find some around the Park, but only at specific hours...

  16. the race with gogoat shouldn't be available so soon. there really is no way back to the mainland aside from fainting all your pkmn. i didn't think this was a problem until i accidentally saved after using the bed in the abandoned building in north anura, so whenever i black out, i'm transported there and am trapped. starting a new game sucks, but it can't be helped :/ . cool game tho.

I can't believe I left that stupid "wanna race" guy, despite Amethyst telling me about it almost a year ago, and getting regular complaints about it. At this point, it might as well become a meme in game.

Anyway I deleted that guy now, and pressed "Save". It's dead now. Not coming back. No way.

BTW instead of starting a new game, what you could do is give me your save file, so I get you out of there without you having to start over a new game.

And also the next version will be uploaded today probably. That's unless I find suddenly some inspiration to add other unplanned things to the game.

  17. Finally got the hitmontop, when I went back to Hera, she gave me the Macho Brace and said she gave me a hitmonchan and told me to give it common candies, but I didn't get the hitmonchan, bug or wrong dialogue?

Definitely a bug. If you bring her the Hitmontop, she gives you the Macho Brace and that's it. I'll fix this.

Also I just finished all the maps + story line. Now it's just a matter of how much side-stuff I have the patience to cram into the game before I release it (knowing there's a lot to do, but I don't necessarily have to do it all now). Also need to add music, a couple graphics, and wild Pokemon + items.

Edit: I mean I finished the maps+ story line of the next release, not the entire game.

  18. Hi there!

    Long time no see :)

I've finally finished more or less the version 2 of the game. There's still some things I want to add (more events and side-stories), but I guess it can wait for version 3.

The updated link with the game is found in the original post.

Time frame for the next version? Well it depends on my motivation/availability. For example, here I didn't work on the game between October and December, and again between February and April. I'll try to work consistently on it without breaks, but I'm not a fast worker. I also have to accept to produce average work sometimes to fasten up the production.
