    Trivia Time: Marill's early design was pink in color, had noticeably smaller ears, and lacked the erratic tail pattern. A lot of you probably know this, but for a few months prior to Gold and Silver, Marill was often incorrectly referred to as "Pikablu" , likely because of its slight resemblance to Pikachu.       evoultion isn't based on gender, a female Azurill has a 1 in 3 chance of evolving into a male Marill (prior to Generation 6).

      I remember back then, Italy got Gold and Silver almost a year after the whole Pikablu thing started spreading, so in the meantime we italian kids started spreading all sorts of urban legends... Yu know, of the "my cousin went to Japan and told me" kind.

      Since its debut, Marill has been available in every Japan-centric regional Pokedex. As of Generation 6, no other Pokemon have the same type combination as Marill and its evolutionary family.
