Hi! I know this is a post of one year ago but I'm trying to do something like that but with pokemon rejuvenation. And about your question, you must put a personality in your protagonist you can leave them mute because it difficult for the reader not have dialog because you don't emphasize much with them, and it feels dull and void. That's why on pokemon adventures every protagonist have a personality even the serious looking ones like Silver. The same happens on the Manga series of Zelda where every Link have a personality and dialogs.
