Script Hang when Accessing PC

Hey,

Its really likely that my comp can't process all the animated sprites on the screen when I enter the PC, as any time there's animated pokemon icons (like during the Pokemon menu screen and when the game starts up where you select your file) there's pretty bad lag.

Is there a way to turn off the animated pokemon icons?

The script loaded in episode 10 (after lots of lag), and every other time the game needs to display these icons it loads eventually. So is there a way to delay/increase/ turn off the timer that makes the game save and quit?

Laptop Specs: Window's 8.1 (64 bit), 2.1 GHz Processor (64 bit), 6 gigs of ram

I understand that deleting the animation files for the battle sprites would fix this issue if it were the battle sprites causing it, but I can't really assume there's static backups for the icons somewhere else in the game.

Thanks!

Pardon the bump, but is there some rule I didn't follow? I know its only been a day but yall seem pretty active here.

Was it unruly of me to not introduce myself at the Grand Hall?

Is there a really easy option I missed? I mean by battle sprites don't move and never have on my game only the icons, I did make sure to read this here faq about script hangs before posting...

There also isn't any "Animation On/Off" option in the options menu; should there be?

No you did nothing wrong. I never actually saw this thread.

Anyways, there isn't. Unless you deleted all of them and replaced them with stationary one's you find or make. My best advice is to not run any programs in the background and devote the entire computer to the game.

I also managed to miss this entirely. Your topic is a ninja.

I'm a little confused though-- when you say animated sprites do you mean the actual 5th-gen style animated gif battlers of Pokemon? I don't typically recommend using those pretty much for this reason. But your description makes it sound like you're referring to the icons (which are what display in the party menu, for instance) which themselves are just animated between two frames (and only one at a time)

Rather than the icon animation, the issue is more likely just how many you have displaying at once. You're not the only one to have this problem with the PC box.

Our general recommendation is to try and keep each box to a maximum of half-full (or half empty if you're that kinda guy). If you need some help getting it sorted that way without freezing, you could potentially post your save file and hope another member with a stronger computer will rearrange your boxes for you and send it back to you so that it'll be light enough for you to use.

Aww man! Thanks you two!

And yeah its those icons, I don't use the animated battlers.

I'll probably wind up cropping those icons as I'm about to be on spring break, so I might have a bit of free time.

Do you use Game Maker for this project (Or are you familiar with it)? I think it would be easy to use game maker to take up every single icon in a single sprite (but set it up to only take the first frame of each icon), save that massive sprite as a gif then decompile the gifs as pngs with something like Beneton Movie Gif.

Then I just need to take out the Pokemon with multiple icons, crop the multiples separately, and then rename them accordingly.

Again thanks! I'll try to stick around!

The only issue i saw with the PC... Well, you don't have a lot of pokemons in the PC (11 pokemons + party?) So, i don't know how separating them is going to help you... Sure, it will work for now, but you're bound to get more pokemons in the future so...

Whatever, i still moved them and changed some other stuff in "options"... Hopefully, it will be better...

Side note: ("You have exceeded your allotted disk space for attachments" - What did i do wrong ?)

I think the animated images was it, now everything is booting up lightning fast, after cropping the images. They're all named and organized here

Regardless of settings (I used the other file the screen size was changed right?) its nice and smooth. The only issue is the icons now blink on and off which isn't as annoying as it taking a million years to hit the Pokemon menu to switch around my team or enter the PC.

Thanks again!
