"DirectX 8.0 or Higher Not Installed" Game won't run (Mac OS X + Wine)

I have two MacBooks, both with the same version of Wine. On my newer one, I was able to run the game with Wine without issue. However, for the other, the game fails to run at all, saying DirectX 8.0 or higher is not installed. How would I go about fixing it?

I, um. Presumably, you might google an installation for directx and download/install it. Have you tried this already?

Erm, I have a very loose understanding of it, but it looks like it's something that's usually integrated into Wine and Windows OS and not something I can just install...

Well my thinking here is that your laptop is too old, and the graphics card doesn't support anything higher than DirectX 7. My guess is that Wine installs the latest version upon download that will still be compatible. You can indeed download DirectX 8.0, but I'm not sure where to find one for mac. How old is your computer and what is it's specifications?

It is something you can install separately, don't worry. I think it does also come with Windows, and getting versions higher than 10 might be difficult (or at least it used to be) but give it a try
