Game Crashing in The Beginning

Syracuse

Recommended Posts

I just started playing and, right after the train crash dialog, the game crashes. I can start up my save file all right, but once I start walking for a few moments then this error comes up:

The programs Game.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for he inconvenience.

This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine. You may want to check the Application Database for tips about running this application.

I'm running it in Wine (from this website http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ ) on Mac OS X Lion. I've already deleted the problematic sound files and I don't think animations are a problem because I haven't done any battles yet. Saving, Text, and everything else is working fine though. It just keeps displaying this error a few seconds into the game.

I understand some Mac users have had this problem before, but I haven't seen anything on the forums that solves it.

Thank you in advance if you can help me out. :)

Well, I'm not really sure but since Wine randomly seems to not like other sound files, let's try this:

You're in the Peridot ward right, since that's where you start? Try deleting Audio/BGM/Reborn City- Peridot.mp3. You won't have any music there, but if it doesn't crash then we know that's an issue. Maybe there's a particular soundfont at part of the song that your computer doesn't like.

I tried but I still freeze up. I made it into the Opal Ward and froze up there as well. Should I just delete all the audio? It doesn't really matter to me if the game has no sound but I was hoping for another way. :) And thank you for the quick reply!

If that change allowed you to make it into the Opal Ward, then yeah, that seems like what you'll have to do unfortunately. Sorry :c

(Alternatively, you might try pressing F1 in game and just turn off the sound? I'm not sure if that'll stop it from trying to use those files, but if it does it might save you some delete-work.)

Does it really?

Anyway, I'm sorry this is an issue in the first place.

To my knowledge, you probably need to at least keep the folders and subfolders there, but I would think you can safely delete their contents

For now maybe just try starting with the BGM folder; if you can delete one of those safely you can delete them all. If there are other crashes, pick out the other files. Save often

*sigh* I've removed all the sound (keeping folders intact) and the game starting freezing almost immediately after clicking my save file. I don't think the audio is the problem... There must be something else. I guess I can't play Reborn on this computer. :) Thank you for your help though!
