Ally Switch doesnt have priority and sends pokemon back to trainer

Recommended Posts

Was using ally switch with Malamar and Gardevior in a double battle (the trainers in the grand hall that battle on saturdays) and found ally switch not only did not have +2 priority but also didnt even switch pokemons positions when the move went off.

Am I using the move wrong or does the move not work?

Below is pasted description from Bulbapedia

Generation V-VI

Ally Switch causes the user to switch places with the ally opposite to itself, and is an increased-priority move. It will fail if the user is in the middle of the field in a Triple Battle, if the user has no ally opposite it, or if used in a Single Battle, Multi Battle, Rotation Battle, or Horde Encounter.

If a Pokémon targeted an ally with a move, but as a result of Ally Switch the Pokémon is now targeting itself when it would execute the move, the move will fail (even if the move is Acupressure).

Generation VII onwards

Ally Switch had its priority increased to +2.

Its effect is different in Reborn. It instead switches you out with reduced priority, like gen 8 Teleport. There's an NPC that tells you about it in Upper Peridot Ward.

I've forgotten about this. Does it work in Single battles as well like Teleport?
