Trainers telepathically know my ability?

Recommended Posts

If this isn't unintentional, then it's just mean. After switching my Bronzong's ability to Levitate, I noticed a drop off in trainers using ground moves used against it. Went back and tested this in Solaris Garchomp battle. With my Bronzong having Heatproof, he used Earthquake in 10 out of 10 battles. With my Bronzong having Levitate , he switched to using Fire Fang in 10 out of 10 battles.

I was also able to replicate this with another trainer predicting my Seaking's ability and only using electric attacks when it didn't currently have Lightning Rod.

How do they know!?!?!?

Ok, so this might help or not... but I found this site that might explain a little bit.

Here is the site: Battle AI

and here is an excerpt:

Quote

If the AI won't switch Pokémon either, then it needs to choose a move to use (PokeBattle_AIdef pbChooseMoves). For each known move in turn, it calculates a score depending on various factors, including the function code and effectiveness of that move, the currently active abilities, move effects and weather, the user's held item and status, and how many Pokémon the player has left. It then compares the scores for each move, and chooses which move to use depending on these scores. If there are no good moves to choose from, there is another opportunity to switch the Pokémon out instead.

Just before it chooses a move to use, the AI will decide if it should Mega Evolve their Pokémon. By default, it will always choose to do so if possible.

So AI trainers seeing through Zoroark’s illusion and knowing ALWAYS that it’s Zoroark is a bug? Honestly don’t think so, I think there should be exceptions, like it first uses a super effective move, but if that doesn’t work for some reason (like a Psychic move not working on illusion Hitmonlee that’s actually a Zoroark) THEN it uses a different move. This wouldn’t be hard to do with Illusion as once they’re hit the illusion is broken. Definitely seems like a bug to me.

I found myself in this such situation with held items in Rejuvenation.

In the Cera/Groudon Battle in the Garufa Ruins when I sent out my Venusaur holding a Meadow Plate (the idea was to use Sleep Powder to put it to sleep then hijack it's drought to take it out with Solar Beam), Groudon would take it out with Magma Drift but when I'd sent Venusuar out holding an Occa Berry which softens super effective fire damage, it would insist on using Earthquake.
I tried the Occa Berry more than once, and the result was constant. Every single time, it refused to use a fire move but did use one when I had the Meadow Plate.

Somehow the damn thing knew what my held item was without Frisk!

So I've running into this issue with only one trainer in reborn my whole play through and it happens to also be with Zoroark. I had been using my Zoroark as my lead for a while and had just gotten to Noel's gym fight. I found out that his Porygon-Z had psychic as a move and decided to exploit that by having my Zoroark disguised as my Infernape, as that strategy had been working up to this point, however, when I went to attack the Porygon-Z went for focus blast instead of psychic. I tested 10 battles each with my Infernape as the lead and Zoroark as the lead. All 10 with infernape I was hit with psychic and all 10 with Zoroark I was hit with focus blast. I don't know what it was but somehow Noel knew the difference between my Zoroark and Infernape. And after I eventually beat Noel I ended up using the same strategy against Fern's Roserade since it knew extrasensory and 3 times in a row it attempted to attack with extrasensory. So I have no clue if this is something specific to Noel or not but I never ran into that same problem after that. Also sorry for the long post I wanted to explain with as much detail as I could so it didn't seem like I was reporting an unlucky move choice by the AI.
