SL the 3rd 0 Posted February 16 Share Posted February 16 I've encountered a bug in AI behaviour as of 18.2. Sometimes the AI uses a "not very effective" move without STAB against me, even if it's not enough to faint me. As a result, my pokemon survives. If the AI were to use their effective STAB move, my pokemon would not survive. Example: Samson's Mienshao (100% hp), which outsped my Archeops (~30-40% hp), used Poison Jab against it, which brought the Archeops to 9 hp. Archeops retaliated with Acrobatics, which OHKO'd the Mienshao. If it were to use Brick Break instead, it would've fainted Archeops (even with "WEAK!" multiplier). Link to post Share on other sites

In reborn the AI in reborn will prioritize using weaker moves on you if those weaker moves kill to try and preserve PP and rolls might not have ben programed in properly. Since you lived on 9 hp I'm assuming that was a low roll and a higher roll would have killed. Link to post Share on other sites
Global Mods Dreamblitz 1056 Posted February 16 Global Mods Share Posted February 16 If I remember correctly, The AI actually has a bit of a 'mercy' mechanic where they'll give higher priority to moves that have a chance to leave you on like 1-10 HP. For the PP saving mechanic I think they still pick ones that will definitely KO, though it tends to put them in a bad spot of you heal when they're doing so. Sometimes this makes them look fairly silly, so I'm kind of hoping that this'll be disabled at least for dark mode in E19 (@andracass ) Link to post Share on other sites

SL the 3rd 0 Posted February 17 Author Share Posted February 17 I've reloaded my save from before the battle and repeated the same actions 5 times. All 5 times, Mienshao went for Poison Jab, and all 5 times, it didn't kill (although in 1 of 5 cases Archeops got poisoned and died at the end of the turn).
