Solaris & Orderly

Hi there.

It's clear Reborn is a difficult game, especially by pokemon standards, but I have gotten trough, so far. Now I've been having this thought that at some point I'm just going to hit a brickwall, that one fight I just can't win, simply because my team isn't built properly or is lacking fine tuning or just isn't strong enough for Reborn (no one should have to rely on luck in pokemon, even though It's rng). I didn't have the patience to grind the right natures and IV's so not going to mention those. I'm now fighting Solaris up at the mountain house in this double battle with him and an orderly. Haven't been able to win thus far, so here I'm hoping to get some sound advice for the fight, and advice for my team in general.

My team consists of:

Greninja (Lvl 75)

- Surf

- Waterfall

- Smack Down

- Grass Knot

Escavalier (Lvl 75)

- Giga Impact

- Drill Run

- Sword Dance

- X-Scissor

Typhlosion (Lvl 75)

- Rollout

- Brick Break

- Burn Up

- Lava Plume

Braviary (Lvl 75)

- Brave Bird

- Trash

- Tailwind

- Superpower

Mamoswine (Lvl 71)

- Earthquake

- Ancient Power

- Ice Shard

- Blizzard

Mienshao (Lvl 65)

- Fake Out

- Bounce

- High Jump Kick

- U-Turn

I have a serious gap in water coverage, I know I know, but that's not relevant to this fight. Looking forward to seeing sound advice.

Nature, EVs and IVs are really important here, because from Charlotte and on, all leaders, and I think those hard battles, all adversaries have proper natures, EVs and IVs. You gonna have a hard time without proper training. Another thing to keep mind is coverage, have a diversity of moves in your mons helps you more on battles.

Also you should mind if your mon is physical or special attacker.

Greninja can run both aforementioned sets. Yours though, have Surf and Grass Knot (Special moves) and Waterfall and Smack Down (physical)

You should focus on just one, and put nature, evs and ivs towards it. For physical set I recommend Jolly nature with Waterfall, Smack Down, Night Slash and U-turn (when TM is available)/Toxic Spikes. For special set (my preference) I recommend Timid nature with Water Pledge (undil Scald is available), Extrasensory, Dark Pulse, Toxic Spikes (until Ice Beam is available).

Greninja should have Protean Ability for STAB in all moves, this with the item Expert belt (available after Reborn restoration) will make it a great sweeper.

I never tried Escavalier, but I would change Giga Impact for Iron Head for more coverage + STAB. Adamant for nature.

Typhlosion is a nice mon, but it doesn't have a good moveset. It runs better with special moveset. I'd give him Extrasensory (through breeding), Flamethrower, Burn Up and Eruption. It doesn't have access to enough special moves, that's why three fire moves...

Flying mons are, in my opinion, one of the hardest to build as most of them have access mostly to flying moves, Braviary is not an exception. If you want to stick with it, try to give it Hone Claws. If you are willing to change here some good options:

Jolly Crobat with Acrobatics, Cross Poison, Leech Life, Supersonic/Zen Headbutt;

Modest Noivern with Roost, Air Slash, Dragon Pulse, Flamethrower;

Jolly Scyther with Swords Dance, Bug Bite, Wing Attack, Brutal Swing. For this moveset it MUST have Techinician Ability;

Jolly Archeops with Acrobatics, Rock Slide, Dragon Claw/Crunch, U-Turn.

Mamoswine is a nice mon but I can't fit it on my teams because of moveset. It runs better with Adamant Nature and I would change Blizzard for Icicle Crash and Ancient Power for Rock Slide (when available) or Iron Head.

Mienshao looks good, just a bit underleveled, I would just change Bounce for Poison Jab (don't remember if it's available at this point).

Now, I insisted in Natures and EVs, IVs because Reborn gets really hard from now on and this training always pays off. Good Luck ~

Now that's good advice.

EV training yes, looks like I can't avoid it. I know how it basically works, but do I have to get new mons to start over with or can I still EV train my current team? (by using common candies?)

Yes Greninja is split both ways, but it's attack and special attack are quite equal at least on my Greninja, so it not too bad.

And replacing those moves isn't impossible, just have to go to that circus with some heart scales. Good advice on those moves by the way.

Nature can be changed at reborn city but I'm pretty sure I can't go there right now.

Without those scales good moves are quite limited in Reborn. Just have to work with what one has.

Solaris is not ev trained in this fight, but I recommend ev training in general. It's hard to do until you get back to reborn city but you just got the Fly HM so you know what is coming.

You don't need common candies to reset EVs, but either friendship berries or reset discs. Former is on the 5th floor of the department store, latter are buyable in reborn city once you go back

Greninja should have Dark Pulse for bosses, and Eruption is the main reason to use Typhlosion

What parts of the fight is giving you trouble?

I just won't last through the fight. The moment Garchomp comes out I've already lost Mamoswine which main job is to beat those 4x ice weak dragons.

It's a real shame I can't go to reborn city right now, reset disc would come in real handy. Ah well, I'll just have to try again, level up the rest of the mons, try a different strat.

Would it be possible to conserve mamo for that part?

Hopefully. It's going to more than a single attempt to adapt, like in any hard fight.
