Agate Chapter "Loophole"

Hey everyone, I recently started a new play through. Because I am a longtime Pokemon fan, I've been pretty specific about getting certain things done in-game before proceeding into Agate City, where it seems I won't be able to return to the previous areas for some significant length of story time.

So, out of curiosity, I HAD to check something out.

Because I obviously don't have access to Fly yet, I needed an easy way to get around and deal with backtracking for errands and side quests and such more efficiently.

So, I kept Teleport on my Gardevoir for that very purpose.

So, I just found something with my little test:
With Teleport, after proceeding into Agate Circus, as LONG AS I DON'T use any new healing stations or PCs from that point onward, I am freely able to Teleport back into any previous Pokecenter I have visited, as normal, even those in such places as Obsidia Ward and Apophyll beach.

Furthermore, I can proceed up Route 1 into Agate City, and then am immediately put into Agate Circus, and even STILL Teleport back to previous areas so long as I don't utilize a single new healing station. (for now, I have to explore more first.)

Just saying', I am probably gonna try to see if I can exploit this to get certain Department Store related stuff a tad early, and maybe do a couple other things, before I truly move onward in game.

However, I found this to be an interesting circumstance and I thought it would be important enough to bring up, in case y'all feel you would want to eliminate such an available exploit in the future...... or do something else with it. ~

Thank you~

I'm guessing that's more research to make sure it won't happen again?

The main reason that I am going to keep using this to procrastinate for now, more than anything, is because after I have been doing this play through for about 3 weeks (90 hours in game):

Spoiler

-I still haven't had a "windy day" occur in Beryl Ward to get the Boy and Drifloon to appear, so I don't have that sticker yet. And I have checked up there twice daily for about the last week.

-It was not until TWO DAYS AGO that the weather in Spinel Town finally changed from Rain to something else--A clear day, actually, SO I was finally able to get that stinking sticker.

So basically my personal goal is to get AT LEAST that other sticker before I scooch on forward.

Thank y'all for taking note of this ~ :)

I'm not thrilled about that one either but there's a lot less we can do about that one since it has to do with how data is actually saved. I just have to let it go. Shutting teleport down is within practicality, however.

One of the only changes I can think of to circumvent this problem is this:

...what if there were some sort of circumstance, or fight or conflict at the introduction to Agate City which would result in your team being "forcibly healed" as I could put it, in such a way that this means that the player is stuck with that healing station as the teleport anchor?

I mean, I am not suggesting something drastic, since I can imagine that the events of the story have been somewhat firmly established, but I think it's within reason that a tiny change would be possible.

But, yeah. That's the one way I would suggest doing this without having to think of shutting down teleport, just forcibly heal the player team upon arrival in Agate city. Fix the Teleport problem by working within it's rules.

Could the script manually set the teleport point when going to Agate (or other no-return location)? I mean there has to be some code like that for healing machines and pokecenters. It should be possible to extract and trigger it manually in these cases.

That's what I'm going to have to do, yeah. I tried to do it before by resetting the last-healing point to the entrance of Agate but we see how well that's worked.

...By the way I did the same thing when you get trapped in the depths with Steelix. Can you also just tp out of there??

Hmmm.... you know, at the time I never thought to try it. I was pretty immersed in emotions because of the story as that was happening, so I wasn't thinking about anything like that.

Frankly, because I had my Gardevoir when I faced Radomus, and because of the shenanigans of HIS Gardevoir, it was that after the battle with Radomus when I started wondering how I could play around with Teleport. :)

....so you can actually blame all of this on Radomus.

He practically told me to do it.

Breaking news on the little bug:

It's exploitability DOES have severe limitations, so I don't believe we need to worry too much about it.

I was poking around and cautiously checking stuff out, and I found this out:

regardless of whether or not I USE the healing center which is inside "Amy and Titiana's House",

when I go in to do the whole event where we wake up Hardy...

...from that point on, the script has set their house in Celestinine Cascade as the new Teleport point.

So, no worries. The whole "back travel" freedom is small.

Even so, yeah, whatever script you used to set the Teleporting spot there, that just ought to be applied to players entering Agate Circus.

Well, if you'll pardon me, I have a gym battle with Samson awaiting me.

Seeya ~
