My Wierd Problems (All Versions)

Not entirely sure if this is the right place for these, as they aren't really inside the game themselves, but they do make the game unplayable so I thought I should post them. they also seem somewhat specific to me as I haven't seen others talking about them and they definitely would be if they were widespread.

 

First one: Whenever the game tries to play an MP3 sound file, it seems to crash. I was only really able to narrow this down from playing insurgence (so it's more of an RPGmaker error probably?) because only a few of their sound files are MP3 so the game didn't crash instantly so I was able to isolate what was causing it. I get around this by converting all the mp3 audio to OGG filetypes and it seems to work, though a few seem to need to be named .mp3.ogg in order to work (surf, and I assume bike if I could actually find the bike audio, for now I just bike in silence). also there is a small pause (whole game locks up for a second) whenever the BGM changes, though obviously I have no way of checking whether thats normal or the result of the conversion. there may have also been problems with the MIDI's but I can't convert those and they are rare so I'm not really sure. the Insurgence MIDI's seemed to work OK.

 

Second one: I can't move or rename the Reborn folder. if I try to the game crashes on launch, so I'm stuck with a folder called Reborn15 in a random place. this would normally kinda make sense, except even when I update (download a new version of the game) the new version won't work unless I put all the files in that Reborn15 folder. This also applies to the regular version of reborn hardcore, but not the CoM version it seems. furthermore it appears that the CoM hardcore version I have can be moved around and still launch.

 

I'm not really expecting any sort of action on the game's end, I'm more just looking for any insight on why these things might be happening and potentially better solutions to them.

what OS are you using?

 

I don't know what is the reason behind certain mp3 files crashing the game, but deleting them or converting them should fix that problem

 

 

Do you get an error when your game crashes?

I'm on Windows 7.
seems to be any mp3 not just certain ones. I can confirm this by putting an obscure one of the old mp3s back into the folder, loaded up the game, went to play it with the pokegear jukebox and it instantly freezes up the game.

Usually it's just "RGSS player has stopped working", but sometimes It's just a black screen that has to be closed with task manager (close button does nothing)

 

EDIT: I think the freeze/lockup is from the MP3 glitch, where the entire window freezes and becomes unresponsive. can't be moved, minimised or closed so I end the process with task manager. the folder moving one just gives RGSS player has stopped working which closes normally.

Good shout on the DEP thing. I'd kinda forgotten I had to do that when I first got reborn, and that makes sense as to why it worked in the original location; the exception was just going off a filepath rather than a program. Now all I need is to know which soundtrack cycling uses so I can fix that one, and I'll be pretty good (I can handle the pauses)

For music - do the mp3 file work outside of the game? Are you using windows media player or some other program to play them

Yea I can open up and listen to the music in both windows media player and VLC Traffic Cone Player
