AI targeting left Pokemon in double battle

It might just be me, but it seems like in every double battle I participate in, the enemy AI always targets the pokemon on the left, unless they have some sort of type advantage over the pokemon on the right. I didn't have (or at least notice) this issue until I started episode 16 fresh. It's especially annoying because in the early game double battles with Fern, my Pokemon is being beaten down ruthlessly every time, and Fern's Budew remains untouched. Let me know if it's just me, it seems problematic
