AeroWraith 3
Reborn has definitly changed my perspective on how I play pokemon. First off, it's gotten me to plant berries, which was something I rarely do at all in the main games. It's certainly helping me out in my current nuzlocke of diamond. It's also gotten me to actually pay attention to what EVs I would gain from defeating whatever wild pokemon, because before hand, I never really cared much about EVs. It's really made me play more effectively over all, which then made the main games so much of a breeze to play through....especially X and Y, like seriously, some of the gym leaders don't even have 4 moves on their pokemon. So for the most part, I find myself wanting to nuzlocke the main games in order to make it more interesting play through, rather than just blow right through it.
Groteska 0
Thanks to Reborn, I started to play Pokemon.So...Yes?
Zargerth 254
Yes. Simply put, (Pokemon) games that are "too easy" no longer hold my interest, not to mention whenever I play a Pokemon game without field effects I wish there were. I don't like self-imposed challenges such as Nuzlocke runs etc. Even though I struggled at some parts of Reborn, I can't say there was anything completely overpowered or unfair standing in your way, every fight can be won with strategy and not just mindlessly spamming moves. loremasterz 0
Hey, I'm new on the forums! I love this game, I play pokemon since the Red version on the gbc until Diamond and Pearl, but I'm a total noob regarding stats and strategies and all that stuff, hehe.I havent played any pokemon games since 2008 and this game cannot compare to the original games, its just so much better. Not only the mechanics and battles, the music, the story, the tauros riding, so many cool things. I'm 22 years old and this game made me love pokemon again, I really feel like I'm a kid again. I hope the developers keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to episode 16! Cobalt996 10
Long story short... no, it has not changed my stance on the normal games, since... well... the main series games were already a pushover with a flat story (to the point of a hiatus 75% through AS). Playing Reborn through twice didn't change that, nor did it make it more evident—it just said "hey, look, something maybe harder." It gave hope on there being something better, but it never did anything to change the main games in the slightest.
Felix~ 240
Yes. I got better at working with the game in general and checking out each mons strengths and weaknesses. It also made most other games boring because their stories suck. Including Main series games.
_SaltyBacon_ 0
Granted, I haven't played much at all, but I honestly already love it. I love every ounce of the Pokemon games, but it's also amazing to finally see a game that tackles such a mature and realistic plot. On top of that, the sprite work makes it feel like i'm i kid again, playing on an old Game Boy Advance like I did so long ago.
DemICE 230
Well let's put it like this. The more time you invest in a game, the easier it becomes for you. When i first held my pokemon blue and then put it into the original gray game boy, the only thing i knew, was that huge turtle with cannons on the back, was freaking cool. I didnt even know that pokemon were creatures. I played the game while learning the very basics, and carefully reading the instructions manual that i had previously neglected inside the box. Needless to say, some battles were hard for me. And my overall experience since i started, and till i beat garry and then found Mewtwo, was that this was a very interesting, awesome, cool, time-fullfilling, and tactical game. By the time G/S were released, I had (due to my nature) pretty much learned everything about the game, The glitches, the type chart, the good move combinations and a general judgment of a balanced team creation (i was battling a lot with friends). So when i purchased pokemon gold, it was, and STILL is, one of the most influential games i had (and have) ever played. The enhanced graphics, the new pokemon, the new features, the improved AI of important battles made me so addicted that i wasted 5 years of my life in that cartridge, roughly 900 hours if i remember well (more than 10 years have passed). I trained almost all pokemon, some of them breeding them trying to get the best stats and egg moves, I travelled around my country during holidays thanks to my adventurous parents, and battled and traded a lot (those were the years of pokemon craze in greece, lucky me). In short i had become very good and confident, i was winning most of my battles, even against some people using cheat engines in front of my face. (snorlaxes with sleep powder, hypnos with more than one lines of HP bars, etc). BUT now i had new problem. The game seemed too easy for me. Non- challenging at all. I had borrowed the gold of a friend and i realised what joke the main story was. RSE came just in time to give me some new challenge, but still after all i beat it with general ease. And after learning the new features, it was a joke yet again. And that was about the time i stopped messing with consoles, and got into PC games,After some years, i Tried Pokemon Platinum at a DS emulator. After being rusty for many years, the game proved challenging enough. Then it became easy again. Of course, it was an emulator so no prospect of battling with others. Therefore i hacked with pokesav all 483 pokemon level 100 with the stats and moves i wanted, and deposited them on the PC, and used different combinations of them for battle tower. The hax of battle tower still remains challenging to this day. Shortly after i discovered smogon, and that there is an online battlling community revolving around a simulator called showdown, and there i realised that i was really one of the bottom feeders, surrounded by people who had brought pokemon a step further. Competitive battling was so different than just making a team of mon's of different types to stomp other casuals. There was real strategy and sophistication. And i thought how great it would be if this could be incorporated to an extent into the games. So in search of something different i found fan-made games. some had innovative stories (ruby destiny series, glazed, etc), some were just much harder versions of their original title (fire red omega, Bloody platinum, pitch black etc). But in both cases, they were much more interesting than the main titles. Since then i kept searching for unofficial titles who provided good story and challenge. I found some. Got disappointed by others. Pokemon Reborn didnt change the way i viewed everything i played. It simply more than satisfied my thirst for a new experience, quality and challenge. Why did i search for something like Reborn? It was because i had ALREADY deemed the rest things i had played as either a "dull walk in the park" (official titles), or a "different taste of the same dish" (most fan-made titles). My view of them cannot change anymore than that. And yeah even nuzlocking something like bloody platinum can get pretty dull for me after a while. Dying or not, such self-imposed challenges require too much grind.
The Swordsman 98
While Reborn hasn't changed how I played Pokemon it has made even more determined to use my favorites despite the odds in both Reborn and competitively. I do however ever since gen 5 and Reborn expect more out the stories and characters of Pokemon.
doombotmecha 174
i didn't care about nature before I played reborn. unlike a lot of other people, reborn hasn't really ruined my gaming experience, except perhaps for the main games' prolonged tutorial. while the games are FAR easier, i still like the secret base system (emerald) and the ludicrous mon variety in the mainstream games. like, ive got a plat rom that turns trade evos into item evos and im doing a mono-steel run. the only game i've found almost unbearably easy was x, but the available mons (honedge, chesnaught, garchomp) kept me playing, even if azumarill coulda beaten the game by herself in addition, reborn got me off the "starter only" habit and on to the "obsessively make sure every mon is the same level" habit. I also met a lot of new mons i never looked twice at before (lileep, trubbish), and i pick them up when i run across them sometimes.
LedzQQ 0
Reborn taught me to love some pokémon i would've never thought i would
Lilleen 10
Reborn made me realize I can't win a fight with just strength alone. Reborn taught me about how to use Pokémon dis/advantages effectively (I'm looking at you, Charlotte's Ninetales) Also, Reborn really forces us to give Pokémon we usually don't like or concider weak, a new chance to show that when used right, is actually not too shabby at all. Overall, Reborn have taught me so much about Pokémon and how to actually make a plan against the opposing trainer. For me, it was an eye opener.
Zane0144 16
Definitely, most recently I was playing pokemon yellow on the 3ds. I got to brock with a Metapod, Mankey, Nidoran, Pikachu, Spearow, and Ratatta. Some level 10, most only level 8 and I was sure there was no way I was winning that battle. I was going to go back and grind but then I thought, I've handled reborn how bad could brock possibly be? Mankey took out the geodude with ease, but the onix Bind locked it to death soon after. Then, I took advantage of Metapod's strong defense and string shot attack to lower onix's speed so it couldn't bind lock my pokes. Ratatta came in a tail whip'd its defenses. Then, between the rest of my team, they whittled its HP down and sealed the game. Legit victory earned.
Raviel the Phantom 1
Reborn has made me appreciate a lot of Pokemon that I normally have overlooked playing the main games. It has also expanded my view on strategy instead of the usual all out attack.
Global Mods Ice Cream Sand Witch 1650 Posted May 7, 2016 Author Global Mods Share Posted May 7, 2016 I just remembered. Before I played Reborn, whenever I got a seemingly useless item or one that's valuable because of how much it can be sold for, I would just sell it to the Pokemart. I did that with the shards in Reborn when I started playing because I figured "Money is kind of scarce and what do I even need these for?" Then I got to 7th Street where you use them to buy the stolen Pokemon and Agate Circus where shards are basically money and I was like "Oh..."
Developers smeargletail 155 Posted May 8, 2016 Developers Share Posted May 8, 2016 Iv'e never breed pokemon before this game since I kinda suck at tactics I feel its almost mandatory to breed for IVs and EVs in this game. Also it doesn't hurt that the eggs are all unique making it fun to see each pokemon hatch even if I dont get the perfect breed pokemon
Ironbound 110
If anything, it has certainly made me use things like Klink and Kricketune, when normally I would never have. The fact that I dumped them later when I got access to Magnezone and Yanmega/Heracross doesn't matter. It hasn't changed anything else; I always bred for IVs and ground for EVs in every pokemon main series game I played, because I like perfection. Reborn has not altered the way I built teams or strategized in-game either, though it has provided a challenge with granting only a limited array of Pokémon at specific stages. It has also given me a credible plot and interesting story, if anything, so it is certainly more enjoyable than any other Pokemon game I've played.
Commander 876
I'm honestly surprised I never answered this thread. After playing Reborn for who knows how many times in order to figure out how the AI tinkers, Reborn didn't change how I play Pokemon at all...no matter how many playthroughs. Everytime I hit a wall, I just sat down and thought it through and finally figured out an answer. I really did appreciate how much of a step up it was from regular Pokemon games in which makes this game look really, really hard. That was a long time ago and sadly this feature has lost it's way do to so many fan-games following the same manner in difficulty. The first time I played it was way back when it was episode 7 so of course it changed how I viewed Pokemon since I'd never seen anything like it. Nowadays it's a bit different. My knowledge of battling just stems from using so many different Pokemon in so many different ways through uses like nuzlockes and more importantly the times when I was a bad player. It was more like a stepping stone along the path and not much more. Competetive battling is probably where most of my ways changed since you facing someone more or less on equal terms with you making it a bit more of a fair fight and whole different world than against a machine. I know I do this too much, but I have to throw hardcore in here. Making that really changed my views of what makes a Pokemon game difficult and fun. There were so many accidents and incidents that it turned into something that cut down a lot on grinding. Before doing that, I had the mindset that Pokemon games needed to have grinding to make a challenging and rewarding game to get a better connection to your mons. When I stepped into buffing leaders, there were times where I felt like it was impossible and backed against a wall. With that said, there is still room to make fan-games more difficult than they already are without being tedious grinding and brutally unfair than anything that's been presented. When I first played Reborn I thought, "It can't get any harder than this." I'll just give you a general idea where each of these games are at in terms of difficulty (R=Reborn, GF= Main Pokemon games, P= Platinum, H = Hardcore, and L= limit) GF------P----------------------------------R---------H--------------------------------L
Hycrox 273
All it changed for me was that I now catch pretty much ALL event pokemon (only to use the same ones for quite a bit). Otherwise, I'm still too lazy to EV train, IV train, grind, breed, and so forth, and I can be cuz I've been able to get past most things in the game like that.
YoshiofRedemption 0
While I still don't fight competitively and absolutely REFUSE to IV/EV/perfect nature breed, my opinions on the main games changed somewhat. In Reborn, I have multiple Pokemon prepared for the Gym Leader (although I only started to do that for Shade onward), the story keeps me going and strategizing on how to progress, and the game even made me appreciate grinding a little bit (key words: a little bit. I still hate grinding with a passion, but I acknowledge its usefulness because it helped me beat Shade and I haven't rage-quit Reborn since). I can't really get back into the main games anymore since they're so easy and flat. With my first run of Omega Ruby, I took an approximately 2 month hiatus from it because it was so boring, and in my Wonderlocke, I stopped playing completely after Winona's Gym. Game Freak, please give us more fleshed-out plots and stop force-feeding pathetic rivals and unskippable tutorials/cutscenes.
IntSys 106
Reborn made me have this uncontrollable urge to save before each battle, no matter how small, and always rush back to the Pokemon Center to heal after a battle.
Magikarp Merchant 0
I think the most significant way Reborn has changed the way I play Pokemon is reminding me that I don't have to abide by competitive rules: That I can use battle items. In the mainstream Pokemon games, I either hoard or sell them all; they were completely unnecessary given the low baseline difficulty. However, in a game like Reborn where natural movesets on Pokemon are very important due to a scarcity of strong TMs, being able to use X Attack or Dire Hit essentially opens up a moveslot for your Pokemon that might not otherwise be able to boost. This first struck me as very useful while I was considering a moveset for my Sniper Drapion. It couldn't learn Focus Energy, but Dire Hit + Scope Lens will make its Cross Poison and Night Slash 100% Crit chance. Then I realized X Speed could make or break sweeps, as well as X Defense and X Sp. Defense for setting up to set up other boosts.
LordWallace 5
Reborn was a really cool game for me to play since the way Reborn wants to be played (meticulously and calculating with a hint of actually knowing your shit) was pretty much how I had been playing Pokemon ever since I got into competitive around 2010. I always tried to build balanced teams I liked in terms of style and look but at the same time had objectively good Pokemon with objectively good movesets and good synergy with each other, and I'd actually pay some attention to nature (to where I'd at least try to not keep a downright awful natured Pokemon). Sometimes I'd even take of note of grinding spots with beneficial EVs, should I ever need to grind. This made the mainstream games great casual, easy as hell, fun, but it was just the right attitude that Reborn and Rejuvenation alike reward.
