Veterans Azeria 390 Posted December 30, 2015 Veterans Share Posted December 30, 2015 Completely finished Red DX on Challenge Mode today! I gotta say, this game was brilliantly made, from start to finish. The level curve gives it a good challenge and it's definitely worth re-playing if you've done it once! Caught Mewtwo as well, sorta just missing Zapdos to complete my "Legendary" count (and Mew but idk how2get), Elite Four was absolutely brutal. Went blind into the game without checking documents whatsoever, but hoooooooo-boy, this was hella fun. I'm really leaning towards a Challenge Mode + Nuzlocke.. But shit's brutal, yo. Hat's off to you, Scarlet! I've only played up to the SS.Anne before wiping out on my nuzlocke but from what I've seen, I love this game. Amazingly made, great attention to detail and the one battle on showdown I've had with Bibs has made me completely hooked to the game. 9/10. Only problem with it, is that it's working off of Gen 1's crazy engine but even then, it's absolutely amazing. If there's ever a GSC version of this, I'd play it in a heartbeat! TheScarletSword 12
Congratulations to all who've finished! VBA speedup is one hell of a drug. Just remember you can rematch leaders post-game! I wonder who that could be... xD Are you finished with the Wild Pokemon document yet? I can make one for you if you want since I know where to find them all in Blue. It's been finished actually! I've just withheld releasing it until next month so people wouldn't be spoiled. I've only played up to the SS.Anne before wiping out on my nuzlocke but from what I've seen, I love this game. I've received a few requests for a sequel, actually. I plan on remaking one of my old unreleased hacks based off of Emerald; but only after a rom base with newer abilities comes out. We're planning to include custom mega evolutions, so it should be a fun ride. Plus, I highly doubt I'd be able to top XY Naturia if I go the GSC route.
Shadow Sketches 0
Playing it on normal mode as my first nuzlocke and I have to say it's been pretty fun, i'm enjoying it alot actually! Although some of the pokemon sprites throw me off but that's probably just because it's gen 1 Also, could you tell me if it's possible to get a Ralts in the game? I'd love to be able to have one if I can. :
TheScarletSword 12
Forgot to respond to this earlier, oops.Sadly, it's not possible to catch a Ralts. Sorry!

TheScarletSword 12
1.05 is now out. 1.05: Oak now gives out 5 Poke Balls at the start of the game (Thanks, Mateo!) Minor text inconsistency fixed in Celadon Department Store Adjustments to the prices of Game Corner Prizes This particularly makes it a bit easier on people getting Eevee for their Pokedexes. TheScarletSword 12
Version 1.06 is out. Fixed the Diploma and Shiny Charm issue. I'm a big dummy and forgot to set it to check for 252 pokemon instead of 1, which is what it was set to while I was testing the code during the closed beta version. Oops. Additionally, I fixed a bug involving the field surfing engine. Unless there are more bugs found, Version 1.07 will likely be a significant update, including the option to use Generation 2 front sprites, due to popular demand.
TheScarletSword 12
So, here with a little status update on 1.07. The Gen 2 sprites patch is coming along well.. but I've run into a bit of a snag. There's not enough quality devamps out there to completely fill the roster in this game. The following 9 Pokemon do not have Gen 2 devamps available: Golett Golurk Mienfoo Mienshao Shellos [both forms] Gastrodon [both forms] Cryogonal I'm no spriter, so as a result, the Gen 2 sprites patch is currently in limbo. Basically, I could release the patch anyway, but I'm highly uncomfortable with doing so. At the time of this post originally, there were 19 pokemon without front sprites. That count is now down to 9.So right now, I'm looking for people skilled in devamping sprites. If you think we can work something out, shoot me a post in this thread (or in PM, if you prefer)! Now, what does this mean for 1.07? Well, if no progress is done with the Gen 2 front sprite patch by the end of the month, I will be skipping its inclusion in 1.07. 1.07 will (hopefully) feature a fixed Amulet Coin and the inclusion of Pokemon #255. The remaining documents yet to be released will be released along with the Github source when either 1.07 or 1.08 is out, I'm really waiting for the Gen 2 patch to be completed before I pull the trigger on that (plus, I sorta need to organize the source code more). That said, 1.07 will be out guaranteed within this month. The OP will be updated with these details. There will likely be two separate patches. One for Gen 1 front sprites and one for Gen 2 front sprites. More on this later.
TheScarletSword 12
1.07 is out, way ahead of schedule, which will be explained at the end of this post. 1.07 includes the much-desired Gen 2 front sprites while keeping the option to use the Gen 1 front sprites, satisfying both sides of the party. Yay! Due to the quick release however, as you could imagine, the 9 Pokemon that do not have Gen 2 front sprites still don't have them. 1.07 also features a reworked Amulet Coin method, thus fixing the issue. Additionally, I learned the hard way that Pokemon #255 is not completely functional; hell, it doesn't even appear when you have it in your party. To avoid conflicts, I decided to can the concept altogether. Sorry! I may look into it again when I have less issues going on IRL. As promised, the Github Source is now publically available. All documents that were previously unavailable are now available. Essentially, this is the full release of RBDX, and a "final" version by any other name: I'm keeping it as Beta because I'm fairly certain I'll still be updating this over time with more stuff. Also, save files are available for both versions now. These are save files with competitive-ready Pokemon for TGB Dual battling. All final evolutions are available. Give it a shot if you're into that kind of thing. My internet is currently running the risk of being turned off due to an unpaid family cable bill; so I may not be able to respond to posts until February. This is the reason 1.07 has been released this early as well.
TheScarletSword 12
So, this hack has been out for 3 months now. Honestly, it's gained way more attention than I imagined it getting, and I'm really humbled by it.The last update this received was 1.07 - two months ago. In retrospect, this was a rushed "alpha" release, seeing as during the time my cable was going to be turned off and I was dealing with a ton of personal stress. This update introduced Gen 2 sprites to the fray, but many of them had weak coloring and overall just felt like an extension of the Gen 1 sprites more than anything. This changes today.Version 1.08Download here.Changelog: 1.08: Mareep's growth rate corrected All Pokemon now have Gen 2 sprites in the Gen 2 sprite patch Fixed crash when you tried to evaluate a completed pokedex with Oak Slowpoke and Poliwrath now evolve correctly Arbok now has it's Gen 1 pattern Surfing text fixed Even more custom pokemon palettes for Gen 2 and Gen 1 sprites. Nearly all Pokemon have two different colors in their Gen 2 sprites now More custom shinies HP Drain on Substitute bug fixed] Swift no longer hits digging or flying users Sucker Punch now has its canonical effect (does not hit the opponent if it does not attack) Updated player trainer back sprites As the introduction to this post should've already hinted, this update is primarily about the massive sprite changes that have occurred. The Gen 2 sprite patch is now 100% complete, barring below-average backsprites for the Flabebe line, and several pre-existing back sprites and front sprites have been replaced for quality reasons - even Gen 1 sprites received a few touch ups here and there. This is by far the biggest graphical update of the hack so far, and probably it's biggest update since it's been put in front of the public. I absolutely urge you to update if you haven't. For those who have already played, perhaps the changes will give you motivation to give RBDX another playthrough, who knows?1.08 has also fixed a lot of bugs that were posted to me, but since this is a fairly large update, I expect more to be created as a result. Continue reporting them, y'all have been doing a fine job. Now, all this talk wouldn't be complete without some proof, would it?First off, we've got brand new back sprites for the player characters, with Blue's being done by burstxshadowzx: Second, as I said, the color quality of the Gen 2 sprites should now match.. well, a Gen 2 game. Thirdly, while this was NOT introduced in 1.08 (and keen players probably already pieced that together), it's been massively fleshed out now. If you've been tuned in to the RPG Maker Pokemon craze going around the past few years, you'll know that games like Reborn and Rejuvenation incorporate custom shiny 'mons. Now, it's time for ROM hacks to do the same. These are just a few examples.Special thanks to Purple Zigzagoon (Roxas), Nyalicirno, krawky398 and InnocentBoy for helping me with these! And it'd be no good for me to leave Gen 1 sprites without any love, either. Normal:Shiny: So there you have it! RBDX will continue to receive updates in the future, though I expect the next update to be nowhere as large as this one. Currently, I'm looking into the Move Relearner (courtesy of Mateo and ShantyTown with Red++), but I would rather not jump ahead and add something that hasn't even been released before 2.3, so I'll give that more time. TheScarletSword 12
can you help me out? I'm running a patched pokemon red (HB1, gen 1 frontsprites) on vba and the screen whites out uncontrollably when I select my first pokemon. what should I do? Use VBA-M instead of the original VBA or BGB - the original VBA has issues with the color patch.
doombotmecha 174
oh, ok! thank you! edit: everything's working fine now double edit: having played to just after lt. surge, I have a few questions/comments: -firstly, I love this. all of the foreign pokemon look like they belong there, and not knowing what I'm going to run into next is fun. -however, this also means that I have no idea how to evolve Inkay into Malamar, given that I have no 3ds to inverse... -also, picking up a drilbur in diglett cave trivializes lt.surge and is a straight upgrade to diglett. -are there any non-gen I moves in this hack? -fighting moves are super-effective against my dark-psychic inkay. I'm fairly sure that this isn't intended.
TheScarletSword 12
So, in my last post, I had a specific section detailing some of the color reworks I did with some Gen 1 sprites. "And it'd be no good for me to leave Gen 1 sprites without any love, either." Perhaps I got a little too carried away... It's always been a curiosity of mine to see how Gen 1 sprites looked if they used two colors (aside from black and white = a total of four colors), like Gen 2 sprites did. I messed around a little with that in 1.08, but over the past 48 hours I decided to tackle all of the sprites that did not use two colors effectively. The result... Version 1.09 Download here. Changelog: All Gen 1 sprites whose Gen 2 palettes did not mesh well together have been reworked so that they can use the full four-palette coloring (in reality, two colors) properly. A few new Gen 2 sprites as well. Typo fixes in some dex entries. Battle Factory now has an Inverse on/off switch! It can only be toggled within a Factory challenge, however. (credit to Unown Lord over at PC for suggesting this) Honestly, not even I saw this coming, and it was a spur of the moment thing. I'm not even sure how I touched up on so many sprites in the span of about two days, seeing as I did all of them... I am 100% confident that I'll be easing up on the updates now, as the game's sprite work monster-wise has been pushed to the limit. Granted, a lot of the Generation 1 devamps actually aren't that great in quality with the sprites themselves (plus, some of my own recoloring work might be a miss here and there), but even the Internet can't provide a solution to everything - they should be serviceable enough. You can be the judge of that. I would prefer 1.10 to be a modestly sizable update with some notable changes as I touched up on briefly in my previous post, so unless any major bugs pop up (which, any bugfix patches would probably be labeled 1.09a, 1.09b etc.) it'll be a bit before the next update. Now, let's get to those screenshots. oh, ok! thank you! edit: everything's working fine now double edit: having played to just after lt. surge, I have a few questions/comments: -firstly, I love this. all of the foreign pokemon look like they belong there, and not knowing what I'm going to run into next is fun. - Glad to see you feel that way! That was definitely my intention. - Level 30 - Indeed. He has a nasty surprise in Challenge Mode, though. - Over sixty! - It's a glitch in the original games.
