Hardcore Punk Rock (A Pokemon Reborn Hardcore Poison-type Monotype run)

Lord Chespin

Recommended Posts

Hello, and welcome to my first monotype run of Pokemon Reborn Hardcore! Since I know the lay of the game pretty well so far, I've decided to not only play the harder version of it, but to play it while doing a monotype...

...on my first playthrough!

I'll be using poison-types, and I'll be playing as Alice Hemlock, a good friend of Venam from the Aevium region who moved to the Reborn region due to Team Xen's attack on the S.S. Oceania.

Anyway, here's my current team:

003.pngPoison Oak (Male) - Lv. 58

452.pngOrion (Male) - Lv. 58

073.pngCruella (Female) - Lv. 58

034.pngCain (Male) - Lv. 58

Good luck to you, but the most important : Have fun playing like this, it'll be really hard I think. (Psychic-type)

Hey, thanks! I like your avatar, by the way. Anyhoo...

Update #1: Injection

Well, the first battles against Cain and Victoria weren't too bad. I led with my starter, Poison Oak the Bulbasaur, and Cain led with his Nidoran. Thanks to hustle, Nidoran missed two scratches, allowing Poison Oak to pull ahead and take it down with four tackles!

Victoria, meanwhile, was when the toughness began to manifest (albeit in a more subdued form): her Tepig was level six instead of level 5. Undeterred, however, Poison Oak began unleashing mighty tackles... and promptly got his flowery arse handed to him. Don't get me wrong, he still won; however, if it wasn't for the potion I picked up, he would have been done for. Guess now I know what this hack has in store...

The team so far:

001.pngPoison Oak (Male) - Lv. 8

*Grabs popcorn along with Commander* Thanks for doing this! I will try to get the official version out by tomorrow. (Just adds my battles at *loosely used* almost every gym. 5 to be exact off the top of my head. And some help with the grind fest that is training for Noel with some low leveled chancey's! :D

(Grabs Popcorn) Ohohoho this'll be good. Be sure to pick up the Exp Share and Lucky Egg to the right of the Grand Hall. (Evil laughs) Yes, you can actually get them.

Oh, I got them. Turns out Techie Johnathan and his FREAKING MEGA RAYQUAZA OF DEATH won't attack you if you hug the wall. Thanks for that, by the way. I'll be coming back to that battle eventually.

The sole purpose of those two items is to make training new Pokemon less tedious since you'll be doing that a lot. Good luck on Florinia though. She's going to be hell for Poison types.

Update #2: #YOLOSWAG

Well, Fern was... actually pretty hard. I led with one of our newest team members- Hecate the stunky- and HOLY S#@% HE HAS A LEVEL 15 LOMBRE. Only slightly fazed, I had Hecate use poison gas and a screech. She fainted to two bubbles immediately afterwards, so I sent out another one of our team members: Snek the Ekans. He wrapped it and started biting it, and after three bites it fainted. Fern decided to counter my snake with his own snake (Servine), but I switched out Snek for Pile o' Crud the Trubbish, who (after missing twice) poisoned it with a poison gas, then spent his last turn around healing Snek with a potion. After he went down, I sent out Gallbladder the Gulpin, who dodged a wrap and did massive damage to the Servine with a sludge, then (after getting leered at) finished it with a second sludge! All that Fern had left was his ace- Roselia. I quickly switched out for Snek, who paralyzed the Roselia with a glare, wrapped it, and began unleashing bite after bite until he fainted. Poison Oak came out next, and he managed to tackle until it was knocked down into the red before he also fainted. Fortunately, Pile o' Gunk the Grimer managed to pound it into oblivion, ending the fight! And for once, when Fern says I only won because I got lucky... I kinda think he may be right. I really need to train up my team...

434.pngHecate (Female) - Lv. 11

023.pngSnek (Male) - Lv. 12

Oh, don't worry, I was just in the process of updating it. I make the main post, then I update everything team-related, then I go back and add the team to the newest post. If you don't see my team at first, don't panic; just wait a little bit.

Also, thanks for telling me about the newest update; I'll switch over to it right now!

Update #3: Meteor Impact

Well, Aster and Eclipse were... a bit of a shock. I led with Snek, Fern led with Roselia, and Aster and Eclipse led with... Electabuzz and Magmar? Ohhhhhhh nooooooooo. Anyway, I had Snek paralyze the Magmar with a glare, and while Electabuzz set up a leer and Magmar hit Roselia with a smog, Roselia set up a growth. The next turn, Electabuzz did serious damage to Snek with a field-boosted thundershock, and Magmar finished him off with a feint attack; Roselia was, however, able to avenge him with a mega drain on Electabuzz. While Roselia kept on going to town on Electabuzz with mega drain, Gallbladder came out and (after failing to put Electabuzz to sleep thanks to Vital Spirit 7-7) managed to poison it with a sludge, which (when combined with Roselia's nonstop mega drains) managed to take it down! Unfortunately, all things come at a cost, and Roselia took heavy damage from a feint attack the next turn. It still hung on, though, and managed to get off one last mega drain before fainting. Luckily, Fern's Lombe came out afterwards, and between its bubbles and Gallbladder's sludges, managed to take the mighty Magmar down! With the Meteor factory in flames, it's time to take on Julia!

The team so far:

001.pngPoison Oak (Male) - Lv. 15

434.pngHecate (Female) - Lv. 16

023.pngSnek (Male) - Lv. 14

Update #4: Boom Boom Pow

Well, Julia was a real pain in the arse, to say the least. I led with Poison Oak, now a mighty Ivysaur, and Julia led with her Magnemite (RIP toxic spikes ;_; ). Poison Oak was able to set up a leech seed on it, popped its air balloon (nice touch, Julia) with a vine whip, and even managed to whittle its health down enough to make Julia use up her super potions with just six hit points remaining! I quickly switched out to Pile o' Gunk, and he just barely survived a charge beam before dodging two sonicbooms in a row, allowing him to take the Magnemite down with a few mighty mud-slaps! Her Emolga came out next, and I switched out to Pile o' Crud, who managed to stay alive long enough to set up a layer of toxic spikes and get off a acid spray. I sent out Gallbladder next, and he managed to tank an acrobatics and a charge beam with just one hit point remaining to take down the Emolga with two sludges! Her Voltorb came out next, and I switched out to Hecate. After Hecate passed gas on it with a smokescreen, the Voltorb decided "screw it" and blew up, taking Hecate with it. Julia then decided to send out her Chinchou, and I switched out to Snek, who tanked a hit to wrap it, then spent his last turn alive healing Poison Oak. Poison Oak did massive damage to Chinchou with a vine whip, then spent a turn healing Gallbladder with a super potion while the poison KO'd the Chinchou. Her dreaded Heliolisk came out afterwards, but Poison Oak remained brave tanked a hidden power and a parabolic charge, then set up a leech seed while the Heliolisk set up a rain dance, and unleashed Hell with two vine whips. All that remained was Julia's ace: her Lv. 20 Electrode! Unfazed by it, I had Poison Oak set up a leech seed while it began a charge, and began spamming vine whip; shockingly, the Electrode actually failed to do much damage! All it did after charging was miss a sonicboom, set up a magnet rise and do a little damage with a charge beam, leaving it to be KO'd from poison and leech seed damage! And so, Hemlock earns the Volt Badge, and learns of the plant situation in the Obsidia Ward! Time to go check it out!

The team so far:

002.pngPoison Oak (Male) - Lv. 19

434.pngHecate (Female) - Lv. 16

023.pngSnek (Male) - Lv. 16

Update #5: Fighting of the Spirit

Well, Victoria was tough, but not Julia tough. I led with Poison Oak, and Victoria led with a Scraggy. Poison Oak tanked two low kicks and two headbutts, put the Scraggy to sleep (twice, actually, since the first time it woke up after a turn), set up a leech seed, then spammed vine whip while the Scraggy's health slowly got drained away. Eventually the Scraggy fainted, taking with it one of Victoria's potions, and Victoria sent out her ace: Pignite! I still kept Poison Oak on the field... which turned out to be a huge mistake, since Pignite took it out almost instantly with a flame charge. I quickly switched out to Pile o' Gunk, who managed to lower its accuracy with a mud-slap and poison it with a poison gas while the Pignite used smog (for some reason...) and set up a sunny day. Afterwards, he just barely survived a flame charge to get off one last mud-slap before fainting. I quickly sent out Gallbladder, who dodged a Desolation of smog and barely survived a flame charge to take down the Pignite with an acid spray and a sludge! Victoria decided to send out her Kirlia next, and I switched out to Hecate. The Kirlia set up a double team and launched two disarming voices, but Hecate shrugged them off, poisoned it with a poison gas, lowered its defenses with a screech, and took it down with two scratches! With Kirlia down, Victoria decided to send out her... Poliwag? That's new... Anyway, I switched out for Pile o' Crud, who poisoned it with a poison gas while it set up a rain dance, then tanked two mud shots to finish it off with an acid spray and a sludge! All that remained was Victoria's Makuhita, so I switched out to Snek, who... honestly, wasn't able to do too much. Fortunately, he was able to paralyze it with a glare and do some damage with a bite, allowing first for Gallbladder to come in and lower the Makuhita's defenses with an acid spray, and then for Pile o' Crud to swoop in and finish the job with two sludges! Onward to the Slums!

btw, I am reading this to help see if something is too tough or not. So glad you found Julia to be one of the toughest fights as it actually is my favorite early game one. You can probably relax for a bit because there isn't any insanely difficult fights for a while. (And it sounds like the AI is a bit buggy...I know some of those are probably due to the seer number of poison types you have...though I may take off smog due to that weird thing going on for E16's version of this).

Update #6: Thug Lyfe

The Pokemon Gang was rough, but manageable. I led with Hecate and Gallbladder, and the Pokemon Gang led with two Scraggy. The stronger Scraggy set up a dragon dance (hoo boy) and the weaker Scraggy failed a counter while Hecate poisoned both Scraggy with a poison gas and Gallbladder sprayed the stronger Scraggy with an acid spray. The next turn, Gallbladder severely weakened the Scraggy with a poison gas and Hecate lowered its accuracy with a smokescreen. Hecate took a beating from the two Scraggy, though, and fainted the next turn from a karate chop (although the stronger scraggy went down to poison the next turn). With Hecate down, I sent out Poison Oak, who managed to do quite a bit of damage to the Scraggy with a razor leaf; meanwhile, Gallbladder poisoned the Scraggy again with a poison gas (the weaker scraggy shrugged off the poison thanks to its shed skin) while the stronger Scraggy hit Gallbladder with an ice punch and the weaker scraggy set up an iron defense. The Scraggy ganged up on Poison Oak the next turn, slamming hit with a counter and an ice punch before finally taking hit out with a fire punch; fortunately, this allowed Gallbladder to take out the stronger Scraggy with an acid spray and a sludge, leaving only the barely-alive weaker Scraggy... and the Scrafty. It actually didn't do that much during the first turn it was out, only lowering Gallbladder's accuracy with a sand-attack; unfortunately, I wasn't able to do much, either, as both opponents managed to cure themselves of poison the next turn, although Snek was able to wrap Scrafty, negating its leftovers. I didn't give up, though, and Gallbladder was able to poison both foes again the next turn; luckily, this time it stuck, and the weaker Scraggy went down! Scrafty, meanwhile, managed to eventually get rid of the poison, and took down both Snek and Gallbladder; luckily, Pile o' Crud came out next, and managed to take down the Scrafty with a sludge! Time to head to the Coral Ward!

Update #7: The First Time is Always Rough I love you, Cain...

Well. Cain wasn't too bad. I led with Pile o' Gunk, and Cain led with his own Grimer. Pile o' Gunk just kept spamming mud bomb, but the Grimer kept shrugging it off, lowered Pile o' Gunk's special defense with two acid sprays, and then set up a minimize. Even though he probably could have taken down Pile o' Gunk, he decided to switch out for his Venonat, which did massive damage to Pile o' Gunk with a confusion; fortunately, Pile o' Gunk was able to hold on with just two hit points remaining, and corrupted the mist on the field with a poison gas before I switched him out for Hecate. Hecate lowered the Venonat's accuracy to abyssal levels, then let loose a screech and got off a scratch; sadly, Venonat was able to land enough hits to take her down. Fortunately, Poison Oak was able to outspped it thanks to a combination of Chlorophyll and the naturally sunny weather, leaving Cain to send out... um, Dewott? DEWOTT? SUPERMARIO79411's GETTING UPSET! (cough) Um, sorry about that. Anyway, Poison Oak tanked a fury cutter and took it down with two razor leaves. Cain's ace, Nidorino, came out afterwards, and was promptly put to sleep with a sleep powder by Poison Oak, who then proceeded to sap it with a leech seed and wail on it with take down. Cain tried healing it with a potion, but it was too little, too late, as Poison Oak managed to take it down with a critical-hit-boosted take down! Cain's Grimer came back out, and Poison Oak put it to sleep with a sleep powder; unfortunately, he missed two take downs, and Grimer woke up and lowered Poison Oak's special defense with an acid spray. Grimer then used shadow sneak twice before Poison Oak could put it to sleep again, but once it was asleep Poison Oak leeched its health with a leech seed and unleashed several take downs, eventually, well, taking down the Grimer! Cain then sent out... Gastly? Okay, that's new... Anyhoo, I sent out Snek, who got confused and put to sleep, but was able to at least get off a single bite before fainting, taking off a huge chunk of the thing's health. With Snek down, I sent out Gallbladder, who also got confused, but managed to get off an acid spray and a sludge before fainting. He then injured himself and fainted to a sludge. Running out of options, I sent out Pile o' Crud, who got confused but only injured himself once before getting off one last sludge, ending the battle! Time to head to the Obsidia Ward again and stop the plant source at its root (get it because plants)!

Update #8: Wrath of the Tangrowth

Well, Tangrowth was... kind of easy. I led with Snek- now a mighty Arbok!- and ZEL led with... well, the Tangrowth, obviously. Just look at the title; what'd you think they were going to send out, a Dunsparce? All sarcasm aside, Snek managed to paralyze the Tangrowth with a glare, then screeched at it and got off a bite; sadly, he fainted from a knock off and three acid sprays. Deciding that two could play at that game, I sent out Gallbladder, who tanked knock offs, mega drains, and acid sprays while firing off three acid sprays and as many sludges and he could muster; he ultimately fainted to an acid spray, but managed to hold on long enough to make ZEL use up their super potion, as well as whittle it down to the red! From there, Hecate was able to finish the job with a single slash, ending the fight! Time to take on Florina!

Update #9: Haters Gonna Hate

Well, Fern was... harder than I expected. I led with Pile o' Crud, and Fern led with... Ludicolo. (groan) Well, this is going to end well. The Ludicolo got off a fake out and almost took down Pile o' Crud with two water pulses, but Pile o' Crud held on and managed to focus long enough to get off two acid sprays and a sludge, taking the racist caricature down! Fern's... Grovyle... came out next (that's new), and I switched out for Hecate. Hecate tanked a normal-gem boosted quick attack, a leaf blade, and two more regular quick attacks, and then poisoned it with a poison gas, lowered its defense with a screech, then unleashed several slashes! Fern tried healing it with his super potions, but it was too little, too late, as Hecate was able to take him down! Fern then sent out his Ferroseed, and I sent out one of our newest team members, Cain the Nidorino! Cain set up a focus energy and unleashed a mighty double kick, but the contact damage from Ferroseed's rocky helmet and iron barbs did him in. Snek came out next, and he managed to wrap the Ferroseed and paralyze it with a glare; sadly, he went down to a gyro ball. I quickly sent out our other newest member, Randomus the Venonat, and he unleashed two mighty confusions on the Ferroseed, breaking its tiny little seed brain! Randomus didn't fare as well against Fern's Roselia, though; he was able to get off a critical-hit psybeam, but got hit with a leech seed and fainted from the gradual damage. I quickly sent out Poison Oak (who wasn't affected by leech seed), and had him begin using take down until the stupid rosebush fainted. With that down, all that remained was Fern's Servine. Unfortunately for me, Poison Oak, got overleveled from taking down Roselia, and started to disobey me... but to my amazement, Fern had his Servine use growth, even though it had contrary and was weakening itself by doing so! With the reduction in its power, Poison Oak was able to hold on against Servine long enough to take down Servine into oblivion, ending the fight! Time to finally take on Florina... after I lower Poison Oak's level, of course...
