novainlustris 0
Hello! I downloaded the game, but when I try starting it up it immediately freezes and says "RGSS Player is not responding," forcing me to kill the program. So far I've tried: the Data Execution Prevention method running the program as administrator running the program in Windows XP (both Service Packs 2 and 3) compatibility mode downloading/installing the RPG Maker XP runtime files Nothing has worked! I'm using Windows 8, 64 bit. I would highly appreciate some help, since I'd really love to play the game! Thank you so much!!
Administrators Amethyst 2466 Posted January 5, 2015 Administrators Share Posted January 5, 2015 The DEP is really the only consistent solution I've heard for this-- did you try adding it as an exception, or just turning DEP off? You might try the other options, either way.

Here's what it looks like:
Administrators Amethyst 2466 Posted January 6, 2015 Administrators Share Posted January 6, 2015 I guess that first bubble for 'only essential windows services' is the closest thing we have to an 'off' switch. Still, if the player is properly added, that's strange. So what happens if you try that first bubble option, any difference?

No difference - the first option is what it was set on when I first downloaded and tried to run the game. The same thing happens on either setting.
Administrators Amethyst 2466 Posted January 7, 2015 Administrators Share Posted January 7, 2015 I'm afraid I don't have a definite prescription then, if that's not working, but one thing you could try is looking for a trial version of RMXP. Make a new project in RMXP and save it. Then find that folder and copy the Game.rxproj file out of it into the Reborn folder, then run that file. This opens the game in RMXP. Then try test playing through the maker. It may or may not make a difference, or might give a different error message, but... worth a try at least, otherwise it might just have to be run on a different machine. :x

Administrators Amethyst 2466 Posted January 7, 2015 Administrators Share Posted January 7, 2015 Possibly. for other people it does, but it just auto-extracts them for me whenever i try so i forget that http://www.pokemonreborn.com/PBS.zip Unzip into the game directory as well. novainlustris 0
I downloaded the trial version of RPG Maker XP and was able to open the game in that, after also extracting those PBS files. I hit "Playtest" and for a moment it seemed to work, giving me a New Game / Continue screen, so I hit "New Game" and that's when it stopped responding again. Unfortunately I don't have another computer to run the game on... my Windows 8 laptop is all I have. Any possible chance of this issue being fixed in a future update to the game? Otherwise it doesn't look like I'll be able to play it at all... :c
BlueAmaranth 0
I'm having the same issue. The game worked fine when I downloaded the new version a couple of days ago. It eventually crashed. When I open it now, it doesn't play music, doesn't appear in my sound mixer, and stops responding as soon as I hit "new game" or "continue." I've tried redownloading the game, deleting my save, and even booting up an older version of the game with no success. I'm using Windows 8.
Administrators Amethyst 2466 Posted January 9, 2015 Administrators Share Posted January 9, 2015 This is challenging because the problem, to all extent of my knowledge is not a problem with the game itself, but a problem with the RPG Maker engine. These errors happen for even non-Pokemon RMXP games. However, in the past the DEP thing has always worked so it hasn't been a concern...
BlueAmaranth 0
Yeah, I wish I could do it that way...Unfortunately Windows 8 doesn't seem to trust its users to make their own security decisions. Even an elevated command prompt won't let me disable DEP. Apparently the only way I can do it is by first disabling something called "Secure Boot," which I'm told is difficult to then re-enable without a factory reset? What confuses me is that it worked before, although it was laggy. That does suggest it's not an issue with the actual game. Also, I tried running it through RMXP, and it did actually get past the start screens, but after a few seconds it started using 98% of my CPU and I had to do a manual reset. Maybe that's a clue to whatever's going on with the engine.
