(Playing through Ep. 9) Moxie Not Working back then?

Was Playing through Episode 9 (as mentioned in my thread in team showcase, this is to, "Get all the good Pokemon".) and as soon as I evolved my Magikarp Ashura (Yes, I know it's misspelled) I wanted to test this baby out. Now, My Magikarp had the ability Rattled, so when it evolved into Gyrados, it has Moxie. Knowing this, when I got into my first trainer battle with my new Gyrados, I expected my attack to increase because of Moxie.

But it didn't.

So I am wondering, back in the days of Episode 9.0 (I checked), was Moxie not working, and if so, when was it improved? Because I would possibly like to use my Gyrados to my fullest potential without sacrificing encountering, "The good Pokemon"

A little off topic, I think you can spell Asura's name with an h, I believe both spellings are used.

On topic, you are correct in assuming that Moxie didn't work in Episode 9, it did, in fact, not work in episode 9. But if I remember correctly, this was fixed in either the following episode or episode 11. I think one or two other abilities weren't working either, but that's beside the point.
