  1. Ah nice I can access the forums again 🙌🏼

… Not that I’ve been super active *cold sweat*

  2. Reached the Glass Workstation.

    One word: aaaaaaaaaaaaaarg

  3. Q-Jei's quote #2

"Sometimes, later means never. If you want to do something, do it now."

  4. Q-Jei's quote #1

"Nobody is black or white, everybody is prismatic. And each side of our personality is a color. It just takes one situational change for unexpected colors to become visible."

    1. Aphelli

      Aphelli

I like that comparison! Though I don’t think you can actually change colors with a prism…

Perhaps we could use a (white-light) Michelson interferometer instead… but then we lose both the poetry and the math joke (I don’t understand these links either but I know some people are excited).

Also, congrats on getting a four-figure reputation!

  6. Q-Jei's deep reflection #1

When you’re in need of love, what does hurt the most? Being hated by everyone or being ignored by everyone?

    1. Aphelli

      Aphelli

That’s a frightful question. Part of me wants to say, like Candy, that hate is better… that attention of any kind is better than indifference.

But if a large group sent you heinous and hateful messages (in the true, gruesome fashion we’ve come to associate with the Internet), you couldn’t even talk to them about that. This is a kind of attention one can’t engage with.

  7. I was a little of a dickhead, I know.

    • Not saying or responding to wishes during Christmas' and New Year's seasons
    • Being overall silent in the forum
    • Being serious and hardly laughing at all
    • Forgetting myself and accidentally spoiling plot of the gang just because "it's been public for a while"
    • Not giving a fuck about other people's deaths or tragedies (perhaps the most insensitive was my reaction on Joseph Ratzinger's passing, which was like: "Well, I saw that coming...")

In fact, I feel like I'm slowly becoming insensitive, bored and way too straightforward, but in a bad way. Just like Larry.

But there's a difference here - Larry is a fictional character, within a fictional universe, fullon unique personaliies. And I am pretty much real. And... I don't wanna lose the will to live!

Maybe it's just me getting desperate over lack of any human contact ("quite unique" for an introvert since early elementary school), or my life is getting repetitive, or it's real depression... or combination for all.

I know I don't need to say it... well, I guess I just did... maybe because not even my family doesn't want to hear my problems, even daring to say that "depression and all 'mental illnesses' are a figment of lazy humans"

    ...

Do I need to say more?

Maybe it's on me for not having close friends in real life... because I wish NOT to be in the vicinity of vandals, drug dealers and third-rated racketeers.

And- and why am I saying this? Who will care? Are you trying to make a victim out of yourself, Oscar?

    ...y'know, forget it.

Maybe I shouldn't type it... but, somehow, I have the urge to speak about my problems with others whenever I'm feeling under the weather.

I don’t know why I’m writing this. I usually give a wide berth to personal advice or comfort talk because many kinder, more empathetic, more eloquent, more reasonable, more insightful people write it better than I can, and I don’t trust myself to strike the right chord.

But here, I guess the worst-case scenario is that you decide that at least you’re not as bad as I am.

First things first: it’s universal of to have issues, and want to talk about them – if not to a person who can understand you, then shouting about it from the rooftops or writing them on the walls…

Second: everyone needs human contact. Even those who used to think they didn’t – I should know, I’m one of them too. It’s not victimhood, just about a need about as deep-rooted as food or shelter. Do you know the rule of threes? About surviving three minutes without air, three days without water and three weeks without food? I read about a fourth “three” lately: three months without social contact.

I hardly know anything about your personal situation, but you might need to cast a wider net, as I struggle to believe that everyone you have ever met was as base as you described.

As far as I understand, the prevalence of mental health issues in students (I think you’re one) has skyrocketed from an already high baseline. So I guess the main takeaway from this part is that you’re not alone, and other people struggle with similar issues.

I wish I had material advice to help you “snap out of it”. I suppose that the best way to prevent your life from being repetitive is to just do something new or unusual – but that’s not that much help. Maybe something outside, one way or another? While you can find a lot of excellent content on youtube or different derivatives on other parts of the internet, these coping mechanisms may be insufficient, perhaps because they’re too passive.

While boredom may be fought (for instance, by seeking out novelty – be they books, shows, topics of interest, content creators on social media, challenges, IRL projects…), I don’t really have any advice on the topic of insensitivity or being straightforward.

Finally, regarding the behaviors that you’re accusing yourself of: I think you should keep in mind that you’re obviously not in the best frame of mind to judge yourself.

Spoilers are a blunder, as are a lack of answer or just acknowledgement to well-wishers (Jan 4th is still completely fine in my book though), but it’s nowhere near the end of the world. “Being serious” is not particularly unpleasant behavior, neither is “being overall silent” – lurking is fine! I have little to say these days too (TOOO is quite stuck, I’m not very good at the game and the rest isn’t really worth talking about).

As to deaths… I think it’s fine to not sink in grief every time someone slightly famous passes away. It’s sad, certainly – but it’s usually not unexpected, nor do I think it should be incapacitating. If they didn’t mean much to you, why should you mourn them any more that the other, less famous, dead of the day? And how could we keep going ahead if we’re mourning each day the dead of this day? So I think it’s fine to be unaffected – so long as you’re considerate to those who aren’t, regardless of the reason.

Happy new year, and I hope that you get better.

  9. Florinia is a horror for those who do not live in English-speaking countries, isn't it?

    1. Aphelli

      Aphelli

Unwillingness to proceed with proper protocols for productive communication detected. Conclusion: estimates of the subject’s fitness to consequential action beyond primitive gardening must be significantly lowered. Terminating interaction.

More seriously, Florinia is definitely over the top, and probably isn’t easy to understand to even a native speaker. I think she mellows a bit when she says something really important (which is not often), otherwise one could almost conclude that she does not want to be understood.

  11. After three months of playthrough, I won the League for the first time! It was great -- and I hope postgame is going to be fun!

    1. Aphelli

      Aphelli

I did not expect so thorough an account, so congratulations on handling this run so well!

I agree with you on early game modifications, which are great changes.

It seems that Trick Room was quite the game changer in many fights for the second half of the game… I did the same (to a lesser extent). I’m glad that you managed to find a use to Aurorus and Aerodactyl, both mons I have wanted to use at some point, but haven’t got to so far, and impressed that Stealth Rocks and Gravity, Carbink and Nosepass (not to forget Onix of all mons!) could be so helpful.

      Spoiler

Am I to understand that Roxanne ended up in the Lin route because she battled Sigmund at Yureyu? I have very little idea of what the Anna route looks like.

      You’re right, Roxanne rocks!

  12. E19 how to get larvitar and axew?

    1. Aphelli

      Aphelli

Axew is in an egg located in the undergrowth west of the Beryl Ward.

      Spoiler

You need to bring a Pokemon with the TMX Cut and a certain key item you get from around the ninth Badge.

Larvitar is an event mon that you can get after the sixteenth Badge (and Rock Climb). To start it,

      Spoiler

you need to find one specific room in the eastern Tanzan Mountain where to collapse the field. Larvitar then appears from an entrance at the western end of Tanzan Cove.

    1. Aphelli

      Aphelli

      Thank you!

I was playing approximately blind (no lookahead before the battle [but I can use my E18 knowledge, too bad if it’s old] – after a fail I can check stuff out for the Pokemon I saw), so this didn’t leave much in the way of preparation.  It was also a long playthrough, so I don’t quite remember everything. Let me think…

      <checks Discord>

Not many Gym Leaders were really a roadblock. Many were close calls, sloppy when it got off the rails (Samson, Charlotte, Terra), or with slightly RNG-dependent plans (Ciel), but they ended up easily and quickly enough.

I think that the most challenging ones were Serra (I didn’t have enough counters, as I didn’t want to use the ones from the TOOO playthrough), Radomus (until he threw after a few tries), Adrienn (in contrast with my previous playthrough [not TOOO] where I beat them when barely trying), Titania (probably the most attempts, maybe the hardest one).

      In the E4:

      Spoiler

It’s almost certainly Anna who took the most tinkering. El was a bit difficult as well, but given that I eventually 6-0’d him… Heather has no counter for a Scarf Weavile lead and it’s smooth sailing if one disregards RNG.

I still don’t know how I managed to beat B&L (so they’re the only ones I can’t consistently beat with my E4 team) but I remember far less tries than El or Anna.

      As for Lin…

      Spoiler

Lin 1 was difficult, perhaps as much as Anna (but my strat was less consistent, and I think, more reliant on many items). Lin 2 definitely took less tries but crucially relied on one convenient crit on Clefable and an insane amount of Revival Herbs for Arc-PULSE, so it may have been the most difficult of the lot.

Anyway, Roxanne is a great idea for a themed run! I was thinking of trying one myself after playing both postgame routes, but I wasn’t sure what rule to make…

Did you debug one of her Pokemon in as starter or are you picking the mons as they become available? How did you get past Florinia, actually, or Shelly and her omnipresent water/grass coverage?

  14. And speaking of the Nuclear Monotype Story, I'm thinking about naming it "Kicking off a Chain Reaction".  That seem like a good enough name?

    1. Aphelli

      Aphelli

I’m not very good with titles, but I think it’s not bad at all. “Chain reaction” – of course, it’s a Nuclear monotype. “Kicking off” – I like the image and its dynamic (although it’s up to you to see whether it matches your plans).

(I don’t know how many chapters I still have to catch up. I will. Someday, not too far away, for sure.)

  15. Dude I just realized:  If Silvally has that disk drive on the side of his head, does that mean you could develop an "English Language" disk and have a talking Silvally?

Shit I think I wanna make that a thing in the Nuclear Monotype Story now

    1. Aphelli

      Aphelli

🤣 I can’t see any reason why not, but if you treat it seriously, I believe that it can have some serious (and not necessarily) pleasant implications. So perhaps it’s worth thinking a little about where you want to go with this.

If it’s just for a throwaway joke, you can also do an omake.

  16. Now I've just realized how little 4 MB of attachments are.

I've send designs of a few characters for my fanmade game to Evi, and that took over a MB. How am I supposed to show her the remaining 50+ without forcing to delete the other ones?

And also why that limit is so low? I get that in order to not trash the place with scraps, they put it, but... 4 MB is so little...

    1. Aphelli

      Aphelli

Actually, 50 MB is well above the usual attachment size limit for email as well (including gmail).

This being said, I agree that 4 MB of storage are easily spent when pictures are involved… and I don’t know why. Maybe something with the company hosting the website (if there’s even one)? I don’t think the terms offer unlimited storage and 4 MB times many thousands of people becomes quite a lot… but that’s still in the range of a single (good) external hard drive, so it shouldn’t be expensive…

For your specific problem, I recommend using more specialized (free) cloud services such as Google Drive or Dropbox. I know that on Google, you get at least 1 GB (maybe 10? I don’t remember) of free storage, which you may organize however you wish – and you can share access to certain folders with other people.

  17. Seriously, gender balancing is truly awful.

  18. I feel like I should come up with an actual title for the Nuclear monotype's story, like what Candy and Aphelli have.  But I'm terrible at coming up with names.  I was thinking of something like "Fallout: Reborn" but that implies it takes place in a timeline where Team Meteor detonated a nuke in the city.  Which, as badass as that sounds, is not what the story is at all.

    1. Aphelli

      Aphelli

Of course, none of these ideas is good enough to be a title without further work! I wrote these ideas down because I thought they could be interesting starting points – nothing more.

Keeping in mind that they're only leads, elements to play with, and that I don't know if they yield anything interesting at all...

      Spoiler

      "going nuclear"

"chain reaction/meltdown" (about how everything is always one hair away from disaster and the protagonist keeps putting fires out one at a time)

something about cores (Solaris speaks of "core" of Reborn, and also the uranium)

      "nuke it from orbit"

"one armor to protect them all"

something with radioactivity and mutations (in this case, a beneficial one)

Oh, I'm super late for this story...

My recollection was that I had needed ages to find an acceptable title, but apparently it didn't take that long. For what it's worth, I would advise against losing much sleep over it -- ideas will eventually turn up. "Fallout: Reborn" may be a bit grand indeed, but then again, the region is in a pretty apocalyptic state at the beginning all the same.

I have a few leads that might be interesting to play with (or maybe only lame puns, I'm afraid I can't always tell), I can share them if you're interested.

      Aphelli

You're not overthinking, I think you understood pretty well what I was trying to say (although I was thinking of resolutions -- for instance the large-scale redemption of Team Meteor you were alluding to: it's not universally plausible, it depends on these "rules"). To be honest I'm not sure I could find the right words in my native language.

Just for the sake of completeness, when I was talking about retaliation, it wasn't fights: more ambushes, betrayals, maybe outright assassination -- which is why I mentioned paranoia and luck, not strength.
