I recommend Dodrio, Crobat, Staraptor and Mandibuzz in the middle-late game. If you would like an early Flying-type Pokemon, then Talonflame is a fine option. In my playthrough, Dodrio and Mandibuzz pulled their weight and helped out when I was in a pinch
