Last time I played, I remember that Garrett's goon would ask you if you wanted to travel to the EV training cave, you just wouldn't be able to access the basement itself, which I think was added in the latest patch and was not present in previous iterations of Episode 5.  Otherwise, you can also go to Blackview City and teleport there via the teleporter in the Daycare if you purchased the upgrade through Mana. Also I think the Badges missing should have been fixed in 5.1, I've never experienced my badges missing when I played either.

    Final Fantasy 7 for me was a biggie (including its less known baby sibling, Crisis Core), when it came to creating the plot. Another big game for me was actually Dark Souls - not the difficulty, obviously, but the fact that many facets of its story are left to the player to make their own conclusions. While I want the overall story to be digestible, I want to leave a lot of the overarching stuff to the players interpretation. The nature of the side quests isn't really inspired by anything in particular. I just wanted the ability to tell multiple smaller stories that I thought could be fun, but were obviously undeserving of their own individual fan-game.
