If you want to play a Pokemon game where you actually get attached to your starter (and you're not doing a nuzlocke), Pokemon Xenoverse is the game for you. I just got to a certain point in the game and... well I realized that when it was in distress, I actually cared for it and it pulled on my heart strings.
