Aya is the best of the gym leader characters and that's a fact

Aya's Nidoqueen dunked on me a few times, but the attempt where I got past her first pokemon was the attempt that I beat her. Her Toxapex is a huge achilles' heel: it just does no damage, unless it tries to use Toxic Spikes, so if left alone it's practically a 1v2 for most of the match. She got me down to one pokemon, though, so I won't pretend that it wasn't close.

I mean, every singe pokemon capable of Mega Evolving also happens to be fully evolved, so the Eviolite was never an option for them in the first place.

Technically, those Pokemon can evolve once more. Just not a permanent evolution.

Uh, yeah, that's a no. The two processes rely on very different energies in canon, so calling calling the Phenomenon Mega Evolution was a highly misleading decision from the get-go.

Honestly, I think this will be a very quick matchup. Mega Beedrill is so overtuned that it should be able to outspeed Giga-Butterfree even after a Max Airstream (assuming Gigantimaxing doesn't buff the pokemon's base Speed)... but it wouldn't be able to even take in the first place, so it'd have to fell the powdery behemoth in a single shot.

TL;DR: Something's definitely gonna get OHKO'd in this matchup~!

Edit: It turns out that Mega Beedrill's base Sp. Defense is much higher than I thought- it's only 10 points lower than butterfree's Sp. Attack. So butterfree is actually completely screwed in this matchup if Gigantimaxing doesn't increase its Sp. Attack at all, which... is actually a highly concerning prospect.

I was thinking Mega Beedrill, but I can't say for sure only because we don't know all the aspects of Gigantamax and what it'd do for Butterfree's stats.

At this point, I think they're just playing up its trollish nature. It did go out of its way to obscure the ponyta during the stream twice, even though most of the other pokemon didn't seem to even be aware of the camera. Dang thing's trying to be tricksy, see?
