  1. Sometimes the greatest company one can have is himself. Even if his standing with himself is questionably that of a predictably scripted sado-masochistic relationship. Perhaps that statement is contentious, and I could understand my take on it being disagreed with. It's not like it's fact or anything. I'm not writing this to be agreed with.

The air of vindication replaces the storms of rupture when you can look yourself in the mirror and pocket your reflection's acceptance and assurance. Everything you have done can be justified if you're the judge. This doesn't make all of your decisions the right ones, and it doesn't help mean anyone should deny the right to an attorney and proceed to make a fool out of themselves on the stand trying to defend themselves - but it does lay the groundwork for said defense in a way. Your motives are still yours, regardless of if anyone else cares for them or not. If the why you did something is beneficial or worth the repercussions, then you can take the result to the bank.

Validation can begin to dawn on you at that point. Your motives were yours. Your actions were yours. They are weaved into the fabric of your being. For me, I can quickly list off the more garish threads because the desire to change or improve or do the complete opposite of validate is strong with me. Liar. One who covets. One who has stolen. One who hurts. However, it everything you intend to do and everything that you indeed do make up the quilt of your existence, then there are also linens that are considerably beautiful by most. Comedian, Humble. Sacrificial. Competitive. Determined. Adaptable. ....and then you have the centerpiece patchworks. The patterns humanity wants and more or less needs on it's quilt all the same. One who is loved. One who is respected. One who is popular. One who wields courage. One who is strong. One who is influential in a positive manner (positive being determined by the individual and not by society, of course!) and so on and so forth.

The thing about the fabric of life though, is that you can't just cut out the pieces that are garish. You can't replace them with the fabrics of other quilts. If those pieces are on your quilt, they truly belong to you. If they aren't - then your course of option is to make the quilt bigger. The pieces become a story. For example. Someone who develops a brave nature over time still has cowardly pieces on his quilt. Take for example, myself. You begin to see the "I once was X but then I became Y" pattern as your run your fingers over the stitching.

The other thing you can't do with the quilt is wash it. Remember the times you pricked your finger with the needle and bled. That blood becomes a piece on it's own. "This is the time I was hurting."

You can't ever finish the quilt by denying anything that's supposed to be on it. The only one that can get you to appreciate your hard work for it is...

    ...you all guessed it. You.

Hunter. Enjoy this piece of your quilt. "This is the time you appreciated you."

  2. Thanks for the comments guys. I'll look into reworking my tag - but I went with creative writing because I didn't plan on stopping there. I appreciate you all reading my work.

Five in the mornin', frost in the grass,

hat over brow, some water in the glass,

new day's here, and another one's comin',

got another shot, so ya gotta get stunnin'

Boom, Pow, pull on the reigns,

Gun a little faster, gotta break the chains,

No pair is better than the fire and the rain,

gotta know yourself better, cause you're still the same!

    heartbreak, and a ton a-shame...,

clock runnin' and ya soul too tame,

hop back on the saddle, but don't flee town,

'cause the folks know better than to keep you down...

No smoke, no longer called Madge,

once Sheriff, but gotta taken badge,

village ain't all with ya and some want a scrap,

but a face ain't what put ya on the damn map!

Boom, Pow, pull on the reigns,

Gun a little faster, gotta break the chains,

No pair is better than the fire and the rain,

gotta know yourself better, cause you're still the same!

  3. You ever notice?

True sacrifice is looking at the map of souls in front of you, each one a red blip, and saying "I would gladly die for them all."

    Every. Last. One.

True sacrifice is weighing your faults against the ones of those you despise and being able to say "I am no better."

No better even when your heart feels it knows better.

    But do you ever notice?

True sacrifice, is looking those you care about in their eyes and yet doing the same to those you don't. It's easy to provide for the people you want in your life. It's hard to do so for those you could care less.

And yet, that's the unseen clause of being selfless - of being able to make a sacrifice.

In order to sacrifice, you have to get past the barrier that is yourself. The things you want. The things you don't want. There is no filter for the real thing. Sacrifice is not picky.

    Do you notice though?

We tend to value each red blip differently. This one is a lover. This one is a close friend. This one taught me how to read. This one was with me when I was in pain. This one caused me pain. In all but the later - I would gladly lend a hand.

Do you notice that I would have to swallow my pride to help that last red blip?

However, depending on who you are, there is one red blip that either goes unaccounted for, or is the most valuable blip on the map.

The one that you can call your own.

True sacrifice is finding a way to establish worth to that blip, without making it worth the most.

Do you notice that's the singular hardest thing about sacrifice?

  4. If I were to have a theme as a trainer, it would have to be percussive, but also feature a bit of haunting piano. A little bit of edge mixed with a quieter bridge - and finally, horns.

Whenever RuneScape started replacing their .MIDI tracks with orchestral work, they've hit on some great themes. :)

  5. prinplup.gifgabite.giftogetic.gifdoublade.gifmachoke.gif

All five of my NFE favorites are useable in competitive play.

Prinplup is a cutie. Eviolite boost allows for it to be one of the tankiest hazard controllers in NU with it's access to Stealth Rock and Defog, and with it's ability Defiant, it makes others think twice about defogging or switching in their Intimidate checks into it. It's also a prideful Pokemon, like moi.

Gabite to me is the coolest looking Pokemon in it's line - and considering this thing evolves into Garchomp, that's saying a lot. in PU, it's a viable offensive Rock setter and is fantastic defensively with access to the Dragon type, the Eviolite, and the ability Rough Skin. You could also go Toxic and Roar to phase out your opponent to residual damage. Unless you have an ice type to deal with or Clefairy on the other side of the field, Gabite can make it's mark in a PU match.

Togetic was officially demoted to NFE with the introduction of Togekiss in the 4th generation, but it's amazing bulk with the Eviolite along with it's supporting moves Defog, Roost, Wish, Heal Bell, and statuses give it a home in RU. I've always liked Togetic since Gen 2 and was sad when it wasn't a good Pokemon after evolving it in a story run - but nowadays it can be very difficult to deal with in the best tier in all of Smogon.

Doublade climbs even higher than Togetic, all the way up to UU. The Steel/Ghost type Pokemon is immune to Fighting and Normal type moves, can set up offensively with Swords Dance and Autotomize, and with the Eviolite can be one of the more devestating all around tanks in the tier. With STAB Priority in Shadow Sneak and hard hitting Steel type moves, along with a Sword fighting type move for coverage against Darks, Scrappy users, and opposing Steel types, this thing is a fantastic NFE Pokemon, especially with it's final evolution being banned from OverUsed.

Machoke is the only pure fighting type in PU, and one of the few types in the tier. Between No Guard and Guts, this Pokemon has some options to run. It has steel-type priority in Bullet Punch, and access to hitting Ghost types with Knock Off, alone with the ability to set up using Bulk Up, and the Eviolite again, makes this NFE very hard to hit.

  6. Kanto: Brock was not a very fun adversary if you picked Charmander.

Johto: Claire, like everyone else that didn't get decked by a certain Rollout Miltank.

Hoenn: Tate and Liza were a little frustrating. Generation III takes a little bit of a difficulty spike right after you beat Fortree leader - and screw doubles.

    Sinnoh: Never played.

Unova: I had trouble with Burgh's Leavanny and Dwebble. His team was pretty well rounded for being a weak defensive leader.

Kalos: Valerie - as she was the first experience I had with Fairy type Pokemon.

  7. Kanto: Pewter City - Mt. Moon, exhibits, Viridian Forest, and shorts because they are comfy and easy to wear.

Johto: Blackthorn City - In -my- opinion, Blackthorn is closest to some of the coolest views and 'Mons in the Johto region.

Hoenn: Rustboro City - Rustboro is rather underrated. It's as hustle and bustle as Slateport or Lilycove, but also as rustic and homely as Litteroot. I like that contrast.

Sinnoh: Veilstone City - A Grunt at heart, so the Galactic HQ doesn't detract the land value for me...although Galactic's fashion sense could be less trippy. Isolation and carved out of stone. Nice.

Unova: ANYWHERE? Gosh that's tough - but I'd have to say Lentimas Town. The New Mexico-esqe feel is really unique.

Kalos: Shalour City - This city beats out Cyllage for me. It's got a lot of steep tradition and is the embodiment of "Kalos-Tough."

I would RETIRE in Unova - at the Village Bridge with everyone else.

    ---

Orre: Pyrite Town - I'm used to to "the ghetto" and I very much felt at home there when playing through the Genius Sonority Shadow Pokemon titles.

    ---

    Reborn: Beryl Ward pre Tangrowthpocalypse.

  8. Helene, Maya

    ---

"Helene...you can just call me White if you wish."

Pan walked up behind the couch and waved - as per usual - to the new face. At least he wasn't trying to harass the Spinda that seemed to be uninterested in him at the moment. Although, Pancham himself understood the serenity and seduction that comes from a good nap.

Helene on the other hand began to shuffle in, finding the unclaimed room and neatly placing her things there. She returned to the living area and leaned against a wall out of the way, watching the exchange intently. She was certain Maya wouldn't do anything to hurt Pan, but she was always cautious with the reverse, in order that Pan be proper in the company of others

She did long to let Pan battle, because the poor panda never got the time to really release any energy at all. That was why she chose the "Trainer" program among lots of other reasons. Pancham is a fighting type Pokémon. A fighting type Pokémon that doesn't fight just seems so....domesticated. Aggression is a passionate display, and here at Ymora, the both of them would let loose.

Only when the time comes, as that's simply the proper way to do things.

    For now, she smiled.

"So, you wouldn't happen to be from somewhere in Kalos...would you?"

  9. It's not even really a connection - although I will concede that I was going game-verse sized Shalour City and not anime-verse Shalour City where the likelihood -would- be less possible.

    Sorry about that Stratos.

That being said, it's just "I think I've seen this person before" and not some grade-A "oh, we used to be friends long ago and had x amount of memories." so I will say that there -isn't- a connection there so much as there is a mere acknowledgement to a previous memory for the OC

which -I- think makes the story better for personal development.

You're allowed to proceed as if you don't know who I am though. I can't control your responses.

  10. Helene

"Al.....alright then. I've got a room to find anyway."

"C'mon Pan. We've gotta find where the heck you're going to sleep, huh?"

Pancham muttered some sort of dissent, wishing to stay out in the open and meet new folks. Apparently the poor guy was still taken aback by just how many new people and Pokemon there were around Ymora. Helene couldn't blame him either. With all of the official business out of the way, she knew full well by this point that she there were not any real orders of business to attend to anyway.

Pan took a glance back at the two boys and the Cottonee that he had met and then began tailing Helene as she made for the girl's dormitory.

    ---

    Dorm

    "002....well, Pan, this one then."

As she opened the door Pancham entered first, sniffing with some sort of intrigue in an acknowledgement that this area would be a frequented one - and then began excitedly jumping up and down, before racing to Helene's leg and clamboring onto it, chattering the whole way.

"...Easy, Pan......" the girl accentuated cautiously.

"It seems we're not the first ones here. Perfect."

As she managed to carry her luggage in one arm, her keycard in the other, and Pancham in some sort of stranded balancing act, Helene finally took note of the surroundings her new "home" allocated. Pan's commotion seemed to be caused by a Spinda that seemed to have faceplanted on the couch.

"I remember someone with a Spinda. I never talked to her much, but her name was Maya or something..."

Behind said couch was either a very ghastly furnishing or a very normal set of human hair. Familiar jet black human hair.

"Hello there...I hate to be a bother, but since Pancham here is a little bit pre-occupied with not helping me, could you lend a hand?"

  11. Helene, Doux

Nearing the exit of the registration hall, Pancham looked up and waved at something that seemed to be just above Helene's head.

    "...Pan...what are you waving at?"

Suddenly Helene had a strange sneezing sensation. She remembered something like this happening back at Shalour, when she encountered a Whimsicott walking to the south of town on the way to the Skiddo farm.

She stopped walking, wrinkled her nose a couple of times to suppress her urge to sneeze, and addressed the...whatever it was on her head.

"Um...Hello there, friend. How are you?"

She got down to one knee to allow Pan to greet the Pokemon, whom Helene could identify as not a Whimsicott, but it's pre-evolution Cottonee by shifting her eyes almost fully into their sockets.

She sighed, and allowed Pancham to play with the Cottonee, opting to survey the playdate and search for the Pokemon's trainer. From observation, she could tell the Cottonee was well groomed, possibly by one of the Coordinator students here.

From there, she noticed a pair of boys in an exchange near by. One, who had just boasted about the soon-to-be top coordinator of the academy, the other looked to be a little more arrogant than that. She quietly accessed this exchange as a potential macho contest.

"Oh, I sure hope those two aren't roomies."

She then noticed the Cottonee's interest with one of the gentleman, and decided she had better stay nearby in case one of the two trainers was it's charge.

The could probably bet her tuition savings on which gentleman it was.

  12. Helene, Adeline, Emberly, Doux the Cottonee

"Well Helene, er, White, you don't have to tell the little guy to leave me alone. I love the company of Pokémon. It's why I made my decision to become a Breeder here after all."

"Breeder, now that's something you don't see every day. Maybe I'll get the time to ask her about it some time."

Truth be told, Adeline seemed to be a magnet for attention, wanted or otherwise. Helene, while serviceable, was not one to normally barge onto the stages of others. Must be a day for excitement...or rather, a day for Pan to stick his nose where it doesn't belong.

    This triggered a somewhat-distant response.

"Um...right...well, I'm sure Pancham will want to say hi again..." she murmered, taking a sideways glance at her Fighting-type companion in rebuke. "I'll take my leave, then. See you around Adeline, Emberly. C'mon Pan, Let's go make sure our things are moved in - THEN we can go make friends. Okay?"

Perhaps without meaning to, Helene then took off with Pancham in the direction of the girl's dorms in a manner that could be misconstrued as avoidance.

  13. ....Yeah..I kinda acted because of the following:

    - The PCs have to meet __somehow__ - that's just unavoidable. Any time you have someone just trip and fall in the middle of the crowded scene where everyone is, that's a part of the scene and you are either going to have everyone acknowledge it - or no one acknowledge it.

    - The initiative thread did influence my getting involved with the scene.

I don't see how getting all of the PCs involved is that much of a train wreck. Eventually Adeline will have to get off the ground and we all have rooms to go attend to and our own ways. I'll agree with Murdoc here and I'll defend this result. Everyone got out of their shells, and now the PCs are aware of each others existence. There's no foul here. The resolve will come when Adeline stands up.

  14. Helene, Emberly, Adeline

Pan handed the attendant at the desk her folder as Helene flashed her ID, leaving her lanyard around her neck in doing so. Truth be told, despite Pan's verbal discontent with waiting patiently, Helene was feeling a little bit impatient as well - so her arrival at the desks was more than a relief.

"Thank you for attending, we hope you enjoy your time here."

    "Thank you."

As she turned from the desks and exited the queue, she noticed Pan had begun to wander toward a commotion. She noticed another student strewn onto the ground, being helped up by another girl, who was oddly tall.

"You alright? That was quite the tumble. Let me help you up. The name's Emberly, I go by Drake though. This is a strange way to meet somebody." the beanpole offered politely.

By this point, Pancham had made it to the scene, and began patting the student on the ground as if nursing a bruise or calming a child. This caused Helene to rush over, knowing the fallen girl's reputation was already fractured from the fall along with whatever bones potentially may be.

"Hi!..um......My name's Helene, I very much prefer White though. Pan! leave the poor girl alone!"

"This is a horrible first impression."

  15. Well, this has been fun, so far!

in light of the "outgoing" thread, I'll try to find scenarios in which I can bypass Helene's natural introvertedness (such as Pancham gon' Pancham) so that relationships are to occur without sacrificing character.

Like Arthur said, if I step out of line, bring me back in. Thanks for letting me play with ya'll. :)

  16. Helene and Oswald

As she approached, Helene got the sense that making as little eye contact as possible with the janitor would be the best course of action. She felt like the man had a long day ahead of him at the very least, and understood any disdain that could be had from his position.

However, she couldn't help but smile as his Pokemon counterpart cut the stone-face (ha, Geodude, stone face) act out enough to at least placate Pan's curiosity. It was the first kind gesture her or her Pokemon had received at Ymora.

"Sir, I'm so sorry..." She calmly phrased, shooting Pan a look of disapproval. Pancham smirked in return, as if he was that disobedient child you caught with their hand in the cookie jar, but there was no way you could save the cookie from being devoured. "Pan, we might visit Geodude later, if it's alright with Mr. Oswald."

She then nodded at the gruff janitor with a hidden understanding that it wouldn't be her intention to disturb the man again.

Helene then picked up Pancham and filed in behind a girl, Skitty in tow, who seemed to be distraught by the now ridiculous line, overhearing a "You've got to be kidding me!" as she closed in.

"I was here early for this too!"

    "Join the club, sister."

  17. Arms folded, Helene followed an ever-exuberant Pan into the registration line... where promptly, the Pancham caught sight of another Pokemon and bolted.

    "Oh no..."

Pancham were dubbed for their playful nature, and Pan was no different, but now they were indoors. Helene made a concerted effort to stand on her tip toes and searched for her Pokemon anxiously, finding it acting surprisingly calm. However, they weren't out of the woods yet.

Pan had it's arm outstretched toward a Geodude in greeting. The Geodude seemingly belonging to a janitor who already seemed none-too-pleased with the frenetic proceedings he was surveying.

"Great...Well, there goes my place in line. I'd better go get Pan...."

The girl allowed the people behind her to take her place and walked quickly in the direction of the Janitor, reading the name 'Oswald' on the man's name tag.

  18. Helene finally stood up, nodding at Pancham wordlessly in a subtle indication that it was time to move. She had already had her ID card safely on her person and visible as it was nestled in the lanyard she wore around her neck. Her registration papers were neatly secured in a folder residing in her right hand and were ready to be accessed quickly as well. She inhaled and stretched as Pancham curiously watched other students and chattered to himself.

    "Pan?"

The Playful Pokemon turned in acknowledgement.

"There will be plenty of time to make friends, okay? Relax..."

Her attempt at being the "Pokemon Whisperer" didn't quite ease the Pancham's tension. She didn't really know why she tried to acknowledge her Pokemon as if it were a human... Maybe it just seemed proper. A Kalosian woman was supposed to be sophisticated, clear, and concise... or at least that's what her mother would say. Regardless, she was sure Pancham didn't fully understand either. The pair had a mutual need for one another, but that didn't mean they had the ability to communicate to one another outside of commands and requests. Maybe that might change someday...

"C'mon Pan, before the line gets too long then..."

The pair made their way in the direction of the main building, following the traffic of the students that seemed to be knowledgeable of the school's layout.

  19. On the topic of Gen 6, it's become more and more apparent to me that those games were just precursory games to whatever the ending of Generation 6 is supposed to be.

I used to think that perhaps Gamefreak would wave a steak in front of us in the form of the ghost girls, the train station in Couriway Town, and the guy that's been to "a new region" not any of the ones we have been able to go to in the main series as a sort of "wait till next gen" kinda thing.

When we got ORAS, it became more set-in-stone to me. "Okay, yeah, this is a remake - they are looking ahead to the future."

...but after the Zygarde formes announcement > I think I -and hopefully you all- have fallen for "Gotcha" moment. Gen 6 isn't quite finished yet it would seem. ORAS was just a distraction while the anime would catch up to the games and so work could continue on the real endcap for this chapter of Pokemon. Hopefully, Kalos will get it's day of glory soon.

    ---

If I could change one thing about Pokemon, it would honestly be making the whole map free-roam so that you could get rewarded for going OFF of the routes and looking around ALL OVER the region.
