Ralts is probably fine--I don't think it was ever broken the way something like Gyarados was or Flygon is, but it was extremely popular which is going to skew perception. There are plenty of solid pokemon that get boosting moves and are available before Ralts is obtainable or around the same time--Diggersby, Alakazam, Mismagius, Zoroark, Ninetales, Houndoom, Crawdaunt, Barbaracle, Flygon just in the vanilla game and ignoring starters/mystery egg. Gard has a good STAB combo, but it's still a physically frail, 80 base Speed pokemon with no speedboosting moves/ability

I moslty moved Ralts forward because the way it was done in Reborn seriously fucked over Gallade for no reason at all :x.

Posted another little patch, this time fixing a certain addition to a certain fight at Pyrous.

I'll try that out, thanks! While I doubt the intent of this mod is a Pokemon balance overhaul, it would also be cool to eventually also see a few Pokemon with horrific learnsets (looking at you, Unfezant and your pure special learnpool for a physical attacker) get some touchups in the future, even if it's one or two highly desirable moves. (like Unfezant learning Acrobatics in the mid-late 30s; Shelly is so much of a monster in battle in regular Reborn I don't feel bad introducing another counter to her in a difficulty increasing mod)

This is a more demanding and out-there suggestion, but something that allowed more access to the lower-end Megas earlier would be fun (I doubt many people, when they finally got the Mega-Z ring, went, "Now I can finally use my Audinite!", unless it was their favorite Pokemon) without breaking the game with the mega stones and Z crystals you find before the ring is obtainable, but that would require moving a lot of items and possibly changing events. (If you were to get something different for the Mega Ring quest, I would place a mid-high tier mega stone there, sort of like how the Magic Square puzzle rewards you for its extreme difficulty with a good mega stone and top-tier TM.)

I've thought about that stuff but didn't want to go -too- far out there. I'll probably do a few more for those that need it though, so your suggestion might well go through ^^

On another note, I've updated the links with a new patch, fixing yet another bunch of bugs that came back despite me fixing them 😠

Either due to my file unpacker (7zip), my internet corrupting the files, or the website, but I've tried downloading this a few times and each time the archive has failed with 7zip telling me it's failed to open as an archive. Am I missing something stupid or obvious?

As for the changes I've read about, aside from the obvious difficulty part of the mod, I like the look of them and most of them I think would be great changes for the actual game in terms of availability even if it's potentially at the cost of other Pokemon being moved to later in the game. Especially Gligar being added to the Mystery Egg (ignoring the bias of it being one of my top 3 favorite Pokemon, it makes a good match with Sneasel). I always felt that badge 7-8 was a better place for a guaranteed Gligar (I saw an idea of it replacing Trapinch as the trade in Chrysolia, which I would support after Flygon became in-game god tier in Gen 7) as opposed to 12 or 13 (can't recall) where it currently is. I was always a fan of the middle or first evolutions that are given the spotlight in Reborn due to their evolutions coming significantly later, and Gligar would be an excellent candidate for that. (the razor fang is absolutely fine where it is, since even without Earthquake Gliscor is a defensive setup monster)

The only one I would be concerned about balance wise is Ralts, and that's exclusively because of learning Calm Mind by level up. I don't know if removing moves from learnsets, or at least moving it to the 70+ range is something you want to do, but it would make it a safer option for early availability without harming Gallade who was hit hard with the Ralts pushback. The TM changes also look good to me, Sludge Bomb being completely unavailable in E18 baffles me. The only reason I can see it is to keep Budew in check... which does make sense 😄 (Speaking of, memes aside, Budew is a pokemon that I think could be moved forward and replaced with something else, like Cacnea or Fomantis. Even without great poison STAB Roserade is available super early for a Gen 4 evo and is by no means underused or unpopular - unless it was moved in E18 and I somehow missed it), the "pivot" moves aren't as great outside competitive unless you're on Set or in Doubles (though are definitely still late game stuff), and Shadow Ball, while very strong, doesn't feel worth the effort of -every- starter egg. Everything else that's unavailable has a pretty good reason, though I think the "big" elemental moevs currently in the penthouse could be safe to place in the desert section onwards, at least Blizzard and Thunder, as they encourage build-arounds or interesting ability interactions like Compoundeyes Thunder Galvantula.

Is this Scyther item exclusive to Scyther as a replacement for Metal Coat, allowing Scyther to be available earlier without pushing the metal coat so far forward it makes Steelix worthless outside of potentially its Mega? That'd be quite cool, Scyther would be a fun midgame choice against stuff like Radomus, Luna, and Samson, and probably stays viable until Scizor thanks to Swords Dance. (Is it possible to make a Probopass-only evolution area/item or make it a rare spawn somewhere (kind of like the way you viably use A.Sandslash ingame) so it isn't thrown out with the bathwater with Vikavolt and Magnezone, too? Definitely not a mon that deserves to be that late in the game.)

tl;dr: looks good, but the file is busted for me, will check out the team changes if/when I'm able!

Try using WinRAR maybe? Not familiar with 7ZIP sorry. Try redownloading again since I just uploaded a new version~

And yeah you got the reasoning for most of those changes spot on! I'll look into the Probopass case since I did something similar for Crabominable/Glaceon.

I'm going to be blunt right now: I ended up grinding pretty much all my reserve Pokemon up to the cap due to the experience I had with this game. It's ironic all these changes were to drive away from Audino grinding, but I'm still Audino grinding because personally the game is a bit on the way too hard side for me anymore. I don't want to deal with the game's difficulty as much anymore tbh. V9 was such a good step in the right direction and I'd consider playing it again. V10 though did a lot of things to streamline it but those leader fights just...yikes. Angie was okay but I'm just not feeling it. I don't mind grinding a little bit and it really only takes about half an hour to train about 14 mons. Probably will train them to level 55 or whatever the cap is before leaving the island. And here comes the hypocrisy: I don't like the new system as much.

    >Doesn't mind grinding on Audino trainers for up to an hour.

    >>Complains about regular trainers being boring with the Exp All.

What's the difference between spam Pokemon that KO's stuff easily on regular trainers and Audino grinding? Practically nothing except one is actually productive in terms of story progression. Most regular trainers aren't meant to challenge you or be interesting as much as be sources of experience so you can progress through the story cleanly. There is no actual issue in this, especially given that Reborn and Rejuvenation actively encourage the use of multiple Pokemon in a rotation. Reborn falls somewhat flat in that regard however given that the sources of exp through the story itself is frankly quite low from personal experience(I've run through with 0 grinding several times and come up severely underleveled.) Meanwhile the Exp All allows for this and more(Defensive Pokemon like Dusclops or Toxapex very often have low damage output and take forever to level up, so for those that LIKE those Pokemon, it's a massive turn off from using them) as well as keeping a regular team on track at all times without having to spend more time than that given to you by the story itself, which prevents you from becoming disengaged with the story for that reason.

    Quote

"But Commander didn't you pioneer this system?" Yes, yes I did...but I didn't at the same time. The idea behind it was to make sure that there was rarely a shortage of exp, but keep it to a reasonable level to where you have to manage your team. I really don't agree with that Exp Share. I have to turn it off to stop from leveling up too quickly as there's really almost no point to turn it off. It was a problem in Gen VI and VII and the issue is still there. You're not managing Exp, you're simply using whatever Pokemon KOs stuff easier until the hard battles where you start stratigizing more. In theory, this is a great system but it just makes trainer battles really, really boring. It's great for mass grinding though, but I'm more of the guy who believes you should only stick to 5-6 Pokemon slowly rotating some out until you start finalizing your team. It's not bad, but it just doesn't give the Pokemon adventure feel like it should. Then again, there's a lot of little core details that make a Pokemon experience that Reborn had that Rejuv lacks.

You did not pioneer this system. Stop trying to take credit for something you never did. A hard level cap is nothing new, it's been done in rom hacks several times, Suzerain properly introduced it to RMXP and all you did was copy that system, - incompetently I might add - into Hardcore.

That kind of made me realize something that can really sum up my thoughts: Reborn feels more symbolic of a Gen I-III designed game with its structure but with an actual in-depth story while Rejuv feels more symbolic to the Gen V-VII type games. Reborn is more innovative for its times adding on features that really shake the formula (some of which are highly questioned due to the features) and is really about exploring and getting lost to find new and interesting stuff. It rarely tells you where to go only giving hints on where the story will happen. Rejuvenation is quite a bit more linear and more about the flashiness then the depth. It's much nicer to play and more with the times, but it just lacks the same soul the base game had. It doesn't take much to see why I prefer Reborn as while that game certainly has more faults, it's the pros the really keep me going...even through the glass gauntlet.

I'm sorry but what? Barring the 18 gym leaders thing and field effects(neither of which are THAT innovative much as just extending something the main line games/anime did further) a lot of Reborn's features were already found in other fangames. Full dex? Classic Fangame feature. Online? Scripts for this date back to before Reborn was even well known whatsoever and far before it added them. IV/EV Checking? Around since 2013. And then there's blatant lies such as; "It rarely tells you where to go only giving hints on where the story will happen." when the game very much outright tells you where to go. Victoria straight up tells you to go to the Obsidia Ward, Florinia does the same with Onyx and Jasper, Taka with Beryl, Fern with North Obsidia and so fucking on and forth, making up facts like this just makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about, which really, you don't. Seriously. The sidequests are more vague but surprise surprise, there's sidequests in most rpgs, and acting like there aren't several places you can explore on your own time without story involvement in Rejuvenation is just outright wrong. It doesn't take much to see that you're heavily clouded by nostalgia and making up facts to support your argument.

That was...really, really annoying. This is the Ren issue all over again. Her Pokemon have their best movesets more or less and all have leftovers adding to more tedium than difficulty. Add Bounce to the equation and you've got a very, very annoying fight as it probably took an extra 15 minutes it shouldn't have to beat her. It wasn't difficult but since I forgot my team is rather weak to fighting it just added to the time spent. And please don't give everything leftovers as it adds time watching the heal animations go off only adding to the tedium. Yeah, yeah, I use healing items. I really only have super potions though.

And here's some more making up facts. I had a look at Aelita's Normal team on that fight in V10:

    Quote

    #-------------------
    STUDENT
    Aelita,4
    6,HYPERPOTION
    MIENSHAO,49,EXPERTBELT,BOUNCE,UTURN,BRICKBREAK,POISONJAB,1,,,,JOLLY,31
    LUCARIO,50,FOCUSSASH,CALMMIND,AURASPHERE,PSYCHIC,FLASHCANNON,0,,,,ADAMANT,31
    HAWLUCHA,51,SITRUSBERRY,XSCISSOR,FLYINGPRESS,BOUNCE,SWORDSDANCE,1,,,,JOLLY,31
    BLAZIKEN,50,MUSCLEBAND,BRAVEBIRD,PROTECT,SKYUPPERCUT,BLAZEKICK,1,,,,ADAMANT,31

    SCRAFTY,49,LEFTOVERS,REST,BULKUP,KNOCKOFF,DRAINPUNCH,2,,,,ADAMANT,31

Yup. Best movesets. Leftovers on everything. Super annoying for a guy with very few fighting weaknesses on his active team, who was pretty much several levels over her solely because he didn't want to deal with the difficulty anymore. Frankly if you're going to criticise the game, please actually just stick to points where you have actual facts to back up your points instead of making things up to make it seem like you're not just bad at Pokemon.

(I don't even think this guy even know what a responsibility is. What was his major? Bachelor's in Art?)

I would overlook this as just another really bad joke but when there's several people in this community that do the Arts in University/College or whatnot, one of which is a member of our Dev team I might add, this comes off as just in bad taste and borderline disrespectful.

to be honest one of my most heated characters xd (hate her selfish "love")

Solaris hu?, paint a old rough men (? not really sure how to say it in english xd) would be interenting but can't think on an interesting pose/ambient to him

And there is an interesting event related to taka on certain castle...

    Thanks ^^

    Draw kids, my nemesis xd i will try but don't know how it will turn out cuz im really bad on drawing kids .u.;

    Thanks!

those are a lot, lets wait and see how far my motivation goes on this xd

btw, surprising no one has suggested Lin, i was expecting that suggestion to be there fast  nevermind xd

Also if you know their aces are shiny please let me know ^^

    Spoiler

Mostly suggested Solaris because I feel he and his son parallel each other quite well, so it'd be interesting to see one of those split-screen things, with Taka on one end, Solaris on the other. As for poses, yeah fair point. Maybe his reaction to Sirius telling him of Taka's death, ft e18?

Minor E18 spoilers in the tag.

This is actually really good, not exactly the style I like the most but still really good.

Julia and Electrode (I think thats her ace) would be funny to see, Shelly and idunno what her ace is but Shelly in general would be fun to see, Aya and Dragalage (I think thats what its called) would be lit, Luna and Umbreon would also be cute.

    Shelly's ace is Volbeat.

    1. Blaziken is a pretty good pokemon but in the hands of the AI...it's kind of a double edged sword. Gallade already is her secondary ace and her mega so that really gimps it's full use. Also Blaziken isn't really the best for a final mon. The bigger reason I'm not for it is because A) Emboar had a much bigger involvement with Victoria aka it's actually seen a lot more over the other two rival's starters (we even see it more than Cain's Nidoking) and B.) Samson and Cal already have a grip on this mon. Of all the rivals, I'm actually more bent on giving Victoria Emboar than even giving Fern Serperior.

I'm actually reading Emboar's dex entry and read "Cares deeply about its friends." I just always felt like Emboar really fit Victoria as a whole with it being a powerhouse mon ready to charge forward when raged (like a boar would). Also good lord does that Incineroar sprite look ugly. No offense to whoever made it as they got they shape right, but lordy that thing does not look right in an overworld sprite.

    2. I think we all are in an agreement Serperior is the starter for Fern. Its peak is right at Aya and works really well throughout the game. While it is possible Laura could be using one, I think it's safe to assume she'll be a doubles fight so Fern is safe in that regard. Treeko vs Rowlet is the actual debate for a slot and honestly I think Treeko kind of won out there.

    3. Cain, cain, cain. This is the one where I'm a bit more open to honestly. While I set it up as Oshawott, I do see how the mermaid thing would suit him given Ariel. His final team is tbd but Gengar is gone from him. I'll kind of see what people really want to see on him for a water starter but Oshawott kind of would be completing the Gen V starter circle...given the other two are fixed. Mudkip is an interesting choice and would bring something interesting to the table.

Cain works with Swampert and Primarina pretty well, but likely much more skewed towards the latter. Love Samurott but it's pretty weird seeing Cain with a Samurai, Type wise Swampert is probably best due to how well it synergises with his semi~(?)poison mono.

Sceptile is better for Fern, both giving him a Mega and a nice fitting secondary starter. Emboar is also better here no contest.

    Spoiler

Also since my poll abilities are broken...some things never change, I'm kind of wondering about a little thing. Everyone up through Corey is excluded from this, but should I remove the Ace from last feature from nearly all the bosses in the game. Certain characters like Johnathan, Pulse Magnezone, Maison Solaris are going to keep it due to story reasons, but take...Luna for example. Luna could now send her Umbreon in at any point instead of save it until everything else is KO'd. My fights aren't designed with as heavy a skew as regular Reborn so I'm more open to it. Just a simple yay or nay here is all I need.

Dear lord yes. I've stated this to you before but IMO Corey is the only boss fight where this is actually beneficial, as Crobat is basically the whole Boss Fight on it's own. Most leaders would prefer bringing it out when necessary earlier, especially with the generally better AI rather than keeping it for last. I doubt you'll see any real oposition here.

  10. @Gentleman Jaggi

Aww. No Gastrodon solo. Pretty cool strategy none the less. Surprised you didn't try using Sludge Wave with Swampert to set the stage for Excadrill to go ham though, what with him now being immune to all water moves and being able to set up on Rotom for free. I guess you thought you'd at least give her a fighting chance, or forgot Swampert got that. Surprised you didn't hunt for a choice band so Torterra's wood hammer could barrel through more easily. I'd personally wager to say if you use more of Ground's Pokemon, Amaria could've been among the easiest leaders in the game for you.

  11. 2 minutes ago, Gentleman Jaggi said:

Yeah, that sounds a lot more balanced than her team(s) for Doubles. Only two Pokémon that are weak to both Electric and Grass and two that aren't weak to either one. Still kinda would've expected a Drizzle Pelipper in there somewhere to Hurricane Grass Types and to boost her offense more.

    Reverse Psychology, ho!

Her singles team is actually the easier one out of the two lol.

  12. 1 minute ago, Jess said:

Yes, my point is that she tries to play full offense Water, with the bulky ones and with very shallow coverage. If she played stall Water with those, that would've gone better.

Throw in Shell Smash Carracosta, Speed Boost Sharpedo, Kingdra with Focus Energy and stuff like that... These, in combination with the speed disadvantage that the arena introduces would've been hell to face.

    Ah. Misread that then.

I would've thought it a cool twist if her choice in Mega Pokemon changed between paths, having her using them in both. But having 'Darker' ones in Mega Gyarados  and Sharpedo on the Reshiram path, while the lighter themed ones in Swampert, Blastoise that she currently uses in the Zekrom path. Just my 2 cents there.

I think we have become too good in this game xD

Every Leader has counters. Having a reply to everything we might bring is as difficult as building a monotype team able to face EVERYTHING the opponents might throw at you in showdown. With the others not playing a monotype too. It's pretty much impossible. And, in general Water type leaders in-game didn't feel tough to me... Regardless of the game. The type is so stall-oriented that doing something other than that feels wrong and is easily countered. That's the case here as well.

I think though, that Ludicolo, Rotom-Wash, possibly Mega-Gyarados or (Mega) Sharpedo, Kingdra and a Carracosta instead of one of all those Water/Ground types would give more coverage. You'd have Grass, Electric, Dark, Dragon, Rock and Ground that way. Her teams are so unversatile and easy to defeat as they are...

Water is an incredibly versatile type, it's that her team itself is just not using those options properly and ends up being extremely rigid, any change in condition and she falls apart.

Honestly she'd have benefitted so much from a Tentacruel along with Kingdra on her doubles team, as well as Tentacruel on her singles. They're so good on these fields, and Tentacruel can immediately take advantage of Murkwater if it's changed to that.

  14. And to most Water immune Pokemon, those moves will barely be doing a thing. Cradily curbstomps her, Gastrodon curbstomps her. Ironically both also get Sludge Wave so they can even turn her field advantage against her. Heck back in Alpha, I used Cradily's Sludge Wave in combination with Excadrill to 6-0 her cleanly.

As for Shedinja, I don't really blame Ame for forgetting about it, it's like, never used...but then she put a Nincada egg super early, at a point where Pokemon variety is low. So I imagine more people could be coming to her with it.
