  2. Cindy looked at the approaching as one would their saviour; Cindy's eyes were feral and shone with the instinctive desire to fell and survive. She forced herself to move at a furious, limping pace as two of her hands supported her and the other two dragged the unconscious Aqui with her, following Os without any words.

  3.

This is a bleak, crimson world and there are only two inhabitants.

One person stands tall, their back is to the red light in the sky and it casts a supreme shadow over everything they can see. They stare, cold, steel eyes gleaming endlessly into the middle distance as though to pierce the shroud between worlds. I can’t tell their gender. They have long, wispy black hair that floats in the air around them like an aria, supported by a nonexistent wind blowing through it. Their lips are full and the colour of raspberries covered in frost. Their features are sharp and angular with a curved nose and a long, narrow jaw. Their body is silhouetted by the light but they look thin. Not frail, or gaunt, just thin. Like a metal pole. Their eyes are terrifying and indifferent. They are still beautiful. I shiver in terror and pleasure when I see them and no matter how much I dwell on this I just don’t understand. If I had lips, a gasp of ecstasy would soon escape them. This implacable attraction is indescribable.

The other inhabitant isn’t a person, so far as I can see. Maybe it was a person, once, I don’t think I’ll ever know. This inhabitant is a writhing orb of black limbs that tapers off into shadowy fingers, they spread out from the core, the shifting mass disturbingly alive in it’s sinister, sinuous movements.

It gropes out, further and further as my seconds shift ahead. Soon the hands find the person and on the slightest touch of her feet the fingers of shade recoil, winding around itself, looping over itself again and again in a frenzied motion of absurd defense. Eventually it calms down and begins to grope out again.

Once, a hand almost reached the edge of the person's shadow but before it crossed the boundary into the crimson kiss of light the shadow seemed to inexplicably extend. The person hadn’t moved, I would have noticed. I look back but their shadow hadn’t changed either, what had happened?

Eventually the orbs hands find the person again. This time they hesitantly brush against her silhouetted skin, cautious. She is motionless. She? Why did I decide she was a woman now? I look into their features and start to see some femininity in her features. Her body is still obscured but when I look closer it doesn’t seem to be the darkness of her cast shadow hiding her. I just couldn’t see.

I looked at the orb, expecting some new revelation about that. All I could see was that, rather than opaque shadow, the thing seemed to be made of dark, roiling smoke. Or maybe the thunderclouds of a particularly grim storm. The stormy shade continued to explore the woman and her body. One hand cupped her cheek, it seemed like an affectionate motion. Then it tried to dart past her face, through the halo of ebony hair that mirrored the hands shade.

Those haunting, grey eyes flashed wide and bright, animated by wrath, and I almost broke. The orb recoiled again and this world, so bleak and empty, overflowed with a silent roar of anguish. No sounds were made but tremors shook my body, listening to it was so painful. Limbs broke apart, dispersing like a gas and dropping to the floor as the mass coalesced into a horrid sludge that fell toward the ground and deeper into her shadow.

It was clear to me then what she was. She was the warden of the orb and also the bars that kept it within its cell of shade.

A shadowy limb snaked over my eyes. Oh, was I in her shadow?

  4. So a while ago I bought the guidebook the the Dresden files roleplaying game. This game is actually really, really easy to translate into a role-playing format here

For those who don't know the series, the Dresden Files is a book series taking place in the supernatural world, following Chicago wizard Harry Dresden and his experiences with this world. In this RP you would take the place of other residents of the world, mortal, changeling or monstrous as you try to survive and thrive against the horrific odds. Believe me, they are horrific.

This is a franchise near and dear to me and I know the basic rules damned well. Through sheer familiarity I can build a city for you to explore, populated by the various factions and powers of the Dresdenverse. The guidebook provides a basis for testing if actions work out well a la tabletop games and the world itself allows for a lot of variety in creating your characters.

Here's a short rundown of who you could play.

    A Mortal:

Your run of the mill person. Some of you have magic powers like the Wizards of the White Council, some of you have incredibly strong faith like the Knights of the Cross and those who work with them, some of you have a black belt, a chainsaw and a history as an ex-cop to see you through the day. Either way you are a part of the collectively strongest and individually weakest races in this verse. Just about everything is stronger, smarter, faster or better connected than you. You, on the other hand, are savvy to the ways of the world and its not so hidden supernatural truths. Myths tell you how to kill a lot of baddies so if you know your stuff and have some skill you can make your mark in some witless monsters skull. Whatever happens, you have the choice on how you want to act. You can, through an obscene force of will, defy a god regardless of the consequences. The grisly, bloody consequences.

    Changelings:

Demi-humans. Man, some faeries are sexy. So are a lot of other supernatural entities. A lot of them aren't so pretty but somehow, for better or worse, they got laid. Born to a mortal and supernatural parent each you possess aspects of both, maybe you're large and bulky cuz a troll got your mum pregnant, maybe you're gorgeous and charismatic because you were born of one of the Sidhe. You may also be a vampire, recently turned but not yet completely given in to the bloodlust that consummates your monstrous covenant. Maybe you're a lycanthrope, somewhere in between beast and human. Y'all know the gist of Demi. Whilst you may be somewhat swayed by your monstrous half you haven't yet committed to life as a vanilla mortal or monster alike and so you're still generally in control of your choices.

Monsters: Faeries, Vampires, Demons, Fallen Angels (Ok maybe not these guys, they're fucking strong), ghosts, ghouls, any number of the typical baddies you see in the world. These are the things that go bump in the night and typically don't have a moral compass that points north. Or a compass at all. These are the reasons human beings don't venture out into the night without a care. you will, yes, be able to play as monsters. The drawback is that you have no Choice, that lies in the hands of mortals. You are compelled to follow your base instincts and racial compulsions. Faeries cannot lie, Vampires feed, Ghouls are demented, all magical beings are bound to their word when given and all must adhere to the rules of the Unseelie accords, the old laws that keep the brutality in check and prevent you from tearing someone apart when they offered you hospitality. This will involve playing the role and playing it as accurately as possible. Monsters don't develop their characters, they just get stronger or they die.

Each of you are bound, through bad luck or bad decisions, to one of the Sidhe by a debt and this one has a task for all of you. Set out into the darker parts of the city of Leicester to accomplish your goal or weasel your way out of your debt.

    Who's in?

  5.
    +Avatar of Grima: -_-
+RBRN Felix: they were the perpetrators, along with washa nd lezii

    Inno: Lezii.

Inno: I'm gonna call her that.
Inno: Next time I see her.

  6. I should be writing far more over the holiday and I've been slacking. Here's something that hopefully everyone who's taken a stab at writing can understand.

The writer tapped the desk thoughtfully. Tap-tap-taptaptap. He was drawing a blank. First he tried writing a sob story, typing away madly on his battered blue laptop. It was someone confessing their inner anxieties and fears to the audience who played the role of a close friend. He didn’t like it though. It somehow hit too close to home but too far from the truth. That stank somehow. He was trying to be honest with himself. That clearly wasn’t the case though, not after trying to pull a dramatic rabbit from the hat that was his life story.and failing. Meh, maybe he was just a boring guy.

He clicked his pen.1-2-345. His brow furrowed as he stared at the blank page. This was irritating. Well if he was so boring, why not write something fictional? ‘Twas the true of art of the world, bullshitting. Now this writer's work would reek right along with the most historic piles of cowpat, truly magnifiscent... Maybe he wouldn’t use much wordplay.

Shitty metaphors aside, the writer began thinking about his world. Every good story needs a solid world for its foundation. He started with the city, taking time to think about the different areas within. He took out his whiteboard and drew a vague outline, little more than a segmented circle. His art teacher would be appalled but that snob didn’t know jack from shit, so the writer carried on blissfully, humming as his hands moved.

Oh! Here’s an idea! Why not write a story about corporate intrigue! Yes, that sounds fantastic! He had always had a passing interest in economics, it was almost like a second hobby (the first being reading of course!)

Yeah, the protagonist will start as a lowly intern and quickly rise through the ranks as he gets caught in all kinds of sinister affairs. Even the most well informed conspiracy theorists would faint upon reading about the goings on of… Suntondar Banking! Naturally, because no one should trust banks… A moment later the writer closed the online banking tab on his browser. Ok, nobody should trust bankers.

Ok, so the premise is set, as is the stage. Time to begin with… Smithees rise to success, his climb to become the next Wolf of Wall Street! God that was a good movie… How long had he been at this?

The writer turned the tv off with a quiet blink. He threw the tv remote on the settee next to him. Right! Movie break over! Time to- It’s 2am?! Well fuck, it’s time to get to sleep for the writer. Maybe another day.

No one ever read about Smithee’s exploits. He never really had any sordid escapades. He was too busy waiting for his writer to make them up.

  8. A child sits in his room staring at different things. Sometimes he stares at the lit screen of a monitor. Sometimes he stares at the words printed on a page. The rest of the time? Thin air and the inside of his eyelids.

Once in a blue moon, he hears something too. Someone. A faint voice reaches his ears muffled by his heavy wooden doorarrow-10x10.png.

Only once did he approach the door. He opened it, staring for the first time past the dark, streaked surface and into the world outside.

It was a small world. Why would he want to leave?

    He sees a face.

  10. Cindy only stared before a moment before she nodded, a jerky, spasming motion. She turned her eyes back towards the treeline with a haggard expression. She got some of her footing back but her hands stayed where they were, supporting her as she walked now rather than dragging her along. Half her skirt was now ragged and dirty, from soft white cotton to a coarse brown mat. Locks of her hair now trailed down her face after coming loose from the ponytail she had been wearing. Otherwise though she seemed physically fine.

  11. Panic was a very real force in Cindys mind now, the urgency in Os and Damions voices reinforced the fear and overcame the strange interest in the monstrosity ahead of them. A giant canine behemoth of flame appeared, contesting Li bravely before being proven nothing to her.

Then Marius' unconscious body crashed into her, sending her sprawling, and she loosed a pitched wail of abject terror. The Phantom hands spasms, floating in the air where Li had only been for a moment and raced to wards Cindy like 4 silent hornets. wo of them grabbed the girls arms, hauling her up with a painful grip. The other two clinged onto Mariuses body, not even trying to lift him but instead drag his body across the ground. They moved surprisingly quickly towards the treeline, Cindys wails breaking up into hoarse coughs within the smoke and her eyes frantically bounded around in her sockets, looking for other students like Os and Damion, her teachers or, God forbid, Li.

  12. Her breath was ragged, her face burned in the ashen air, her head rang with the furious impact. Her eyes though, Cindys eyes were drawn to the magnificent woman fighting the demigods she had just met. The rational part of her knew fear and the urge to flee but the rest of her was enraptured by the intensity of the woman, so fierce and vibrant. Cindys face was a portrait of idle confusion, mouth parted slightly and eyes slightly unfocused, only vaguely gazing at the coerator ahead of them. Her feet moved in tandem with the sheer desire, wanting to move closer regardless of the risk. she held out a hand absently to Li's back and all four of her phantom hands followed, mirroring the gesture but at a far faster speed, latching on to the woman's arms as though trying to get her attention. They were oblivious to the heat around her and shook her, bizarrely gentle in the furious combat.

  13. That elf is fantastic
