At the end of the day, that is exactly what it is.
They are taking on another role, or in short; pretending to be another person.
At the end of the day, all acting is; is putting on a front and pretending to be another person.
Some people, are just really good at it and dedicate their lives to it. And, they get paid for it.
So, again, actors are playing pretend for money.
