I would adopt a more charitable view: perhaps it's just a disinclination to debate and defend what is meant to be just a loose statement or rant. I'd imagine that having to think and argue about an opinion that was started merely to vent might be counterproductive to the goal of relieving one's initial frustration.

Controversy births argument. Through argument, one's mindset they've adopted throughout their life may be challenged. And if that mindset is "wrong" or "flawed," that threatens to undo all the progress one has made in their life under their prior mindset.

That's what's frightening.
