Known Online Errors
- Megas and Z moves cause online battles to desync
- PP is not restored after battling online
- Seeds that change the user's type cause online battles to desync
- Substitutes graphic does not overwrite the battler properly for opponents of its user in online battles
- Struggle may cause desyncs online
- Thrash desyncs the online battles
- Declining a battle and then trading can set mons to level 100
- The level 100 bug is still existing
- Wish's timing is delayed, and switching on a double KO is not simultaneous
- Pokemon sprites don't preserve their form during trades
- A prevention of too high EVs & IVs in wonder trading should be added
- Having a Rotom with its form's special move in a slot other than the last one causes desyncs in online battles

So the exp system is basically just an easier to access version of the old Rep system? so can I give people exp for something I found helpful or will I have to contact a mod?
I will not say it is easier to access... also the rep system still exists and will contribute to EXP. However as staff we'll also be taking recommendations like "heyo this dude was super helpful to me with X it'd be cool if they got some EXP for it."

That can be biased, just like spamposting for rep is. Even worse, it speaks of no evolutions. How will one know they have enough EXP to level up?
1000 EXP is the threshold and the cap.
We're placing stricter limits on rep to make it worth more to avoid those spam posting cases too... however there will have to be a bit of subjectivity in the system naturally.
If it doesn't work out we can always tweak it too.
I do not have a specific time frame but the update will be before the community release.

so what happens to the trainer sprite on our trainer cards? Are the trainer cards being removed or can we replace the trainer sprite with our showdown sprite?
trainer cards also will not be surviving, so i encourage you all to make the most of that generator while it's still there. if you want to keep the cards in your signature, save them now and then you can put them there like any other image later.

Well this sounds awesome; so will the new site look different, or does it still have the predominantly black colour scheme?
it's a new theme, but it's still black.
however another benefit of the upgrade is that it means it will be practical to install entirely different theme selections again like we had in the (distant, eight years ago) past. that probably will not happen right away though.
This sounds like it'll be pretty. c: But, if sprites are back even after the update without sprite shop, will it just be free sprite stuff?
it means y'all are left to your own devices for finding sprites. that's the common form of such things in most places though.
Same question as Dobby was asking, though - do we start from scratch, or will our rep, post count, account details etc be retained & we get exp we already earned?
Current Aces retain that status. Aside from that, EXP isn't retroactive, so it's only from then on.
Post count is retained, account details are retained.
Since rep is going to factor into EXP (and also we're making it a bit more limited than it is currently so people can't just spamspam upvotes), we might be doing a reset of reputation? I can't remember if we made a decision on that or not.
On topic though, I hope the shoutbox will be preserved, if not improved

The status feed? Definitely still there. I think there's also a separate one that only shows statuses for people you follow? I heard that, but haven't found it yet tbh. Also there is a way to report them now.

This is not about E16.
In the next few weeks, we're going to be doing a full site update. This includes upgrading the forums, redoing the main site entirely, and switching to a new domain. This has been in the works for some time, and while I'm excited to finally get these changes nailed down, they do not come without their share of kicked-up dust.
The biggest difference between the new and old forums is going to be the complete removal of the $R system.
That kind of sucks, but unfortunately there isn't a way around it. Our currency system is part of a third party mod which is completely incompatible with new forum versions. This is also the main reason that we haven't upgraded yet, but as it is now this forum software is nearly three years outdated and its age is starting to show.
A lot around here revolves around the $R system, so let's talk about how we're going to handle some of those things after the upgrade:
- Member titles can be changed freely
- Display names can be changed freely, every so often
- The Sprite Shop will be entirely removed. It hasn't been updated in years anyway.
- Showdown Sprites can be changed on request for voiced users, every so often
- Showdown Rooms will be made on application and staff approval with a certain number of active users

Instead of being bought, Ace Membership will be gated by account age and a new feature called EXP (it's exactly what you think).
- EXP will be earned by contributing positively to the site, including earning reputation, helping others in need, and helping to keep others in line.
- EXP can also be lost when you receive warning points.
- It may also be worth mentioning that this EXP system will be available to users who primarily use the server only (unlike our current post count requirement, which has been removed), making it practical for them to get ace/voice too.
Given the recent unintentional loss of Showdown Rooms and Sprites, we have started taking strides to move towards this policy somewhat in advance. So, those things may be available again soon in their post-update forms even before the full update.
One of the major benefits to this move will be the complete integration of the main site into the forum system. Currently the forum and site pages are actually two entirely different softwares that are just trying very hard (with decent success) to look like each other. With this update, we'll be able to move all of the site content into the forum system itself,making everything more consistent and easier to maintain (...also i've wanted these features since i was like 12 tbh no joke).
It will also mark our official transition from a Pokemon community to a full-fledged gaming one-- though make no mistake, we'll always strongly have our roots in Pokemon and our own game.
Some other changes you might notice to the forum after the upgrade include:
- The friend system has been replaced with a twitter-esque follow system
- Topics can now be made in Q&A format, including a Best Answer selected by the asker.
- Cover photos on your profiles
- More responsive to mobile/tablet users
- Lots of other cool stuff that frankly I have yet to even find...
The other major drawback to this move will be the temporary downtime during the maintenance and development. I expect this to happen within the next couple of weeks. The site and forums will be unavailable, possibly for up to a week while we get everything switched over. No gaming servers (Showdown, Minecraft, tba..) should be affected during that time. The timing might be awkward with the beta going on and Sun and Moon coming out soon, but I hope everyone will bear with it and join us in the Showdown or Discord chats in the meantime.
This version of the site and the theme have been around since 2010, so I think it's finally time to retire them. But even though that which we know is being laid to rest, take comfort in knowing that it'll always be Reborn.

Can i just ask why moves such as Hyperspace fury or Glaciate, or Steam Eruption are programmed to have effects on the various fields if only legendary pokes get them? Like does that mean we'll get pokemon like Hoopa or Kyruem in the game? Ive always wondered that....

Oh, but mind the falling stars. Not that those are accidental...
The Starlight Arena is one of the more straight-forward field effects in this round, directly amping up the power of friendship, magic, and wishful thinking! ...And their associated types.
Plus darkness. Can't have a night sky without darkness.
So how do you beat something like that? Obviously, the stars just have to go away! For a while, at least. Better act fast.
Though appearing in this around, the Starlight Arena may not be seen in-game for some day. Please enjoy it when the time comes (I mean, plus, it's so pretty??? I really like how this one turned out tbh. it's my fav.)

I won't go into detail, but I definitely have been doing the same sort of thing. Not with Reborn since the circumstances behind that are different, but with pretty much every playable character in Starlight they're representative of a specific emotional conflict I have or have had.
Sometimes if I'm like upset or crying or whatever, I'll stop myself and realize... "all right, well, this conflict belongs to X character, how are they going to get over it?" and so I sort of save it away to write into them when the time comes, and then try to jump myself to their conclusion.

some more personal thoughts that i didn't necessarily want in the main announcement:
the hardest part of making this field was the graphics themselves, because it actually went through like five different variations before i settled on the current one, and i just really didn't like the look of any of them... i'd spent like six hours one night, had it finished, it was great, loaded it in game and the orientation was totally off so I had to redo the whole thing and it was just ... all bad from there.
when i started looking for real gardens for inspiration I found the hanging gardens and was just completely awestruck. seriously, look up the pictures on google, they're absolutely gorgeous. but i'm really excited about that much of it
in terms of attributes (what i've taken to calling each individual bullet point of a field effect) there was a lot i held back on, cut out, etc. don't remember specifics at this point but whatever. i'm almost certainly going to have to make balance changes to this field until it plays fairly but obviously those changes won't be happening for a while yet.

Throughout development I've alluded repeatedly to the frustrations of a certain field effect that was hell to make simply for the fact that it was 5x as much work as every other field. This is its story.

Based off of wisteria hanging gardens, the Flower Garden Field is the most complex Field Effect in the game. Throughout the course of a single battle, it grows and changes based on the action. For those who can use its power, tending the garden is necessary. For their opponents, unless they're able to pull the weeds, facing the fully fledged flowers' force will feel far and away like an exercise in futility.

except whoever you're battling against i guess.
but they probably deserve it anyway.
The Flower Garden Field has 5 stages it can progress through, each one with increasingly potent effects. Because of this, communicating the exact effects of each stage is a rather muddy process. While handled well by the new field effect app in-game, I've done my best to organize it below. Do bear with the clutter.
"Seeds line the field."
- Starts at Stage 1 and increases to a maximum of Stage 5.
- These moves grow the field one stage on use:
- Rototiller, Flower Shield, Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Growth
- These abilities grow the field one stage on activation:
- Flower Gift, Flower Veil, Drought, Drizzle,
- These moves cut the field by one stage on use:
- Cut
- Activates Flower Gift and Swarm
- Rototiller additionally boosts user's Attack and Special Attack
- The stat-changing effect of these moves is amplified:
- Rototiller
- Growth's effect increases x2
- Nature Power becomes Growth
- Camouflage changes the user's type to Grass
- Secret Power may lower Evasion
- All Stage 1 effects in addition to and overridden by...
- Cut hits Grass types for super effective damage
- These moves increase in base power x1.5
- Cut
- Always activates Harvest and Leaf Guard
- Flower Shield additionally boosts Sp. Def and the user's defenses

A doozy, right? But if that looks like a lot, remember that most of those effects are just similar forms of each other scaling upwards with each stage.
Though inching ever closer to completion, E16 is still some time away. Make no mistake though, despite the massive downtime, the project still has a pulse. As does the episode. Good luck with that, by the way.

Anyhow here's a quick note about two changes in forum moderation coming to a website near you. Dark Desire, already moderating the server and Gaming General section, will also be taking over the Victory Road section. Aaaaand everyone's favorite little furry electrodent is newly joining the staff in moderating the Bug Reporting forums!
