As part of an ongoing effort to send moderation relief efforts to the areas that need it most, I'm announcing a couple new local mods in the community today!
First up is the already-server-modly Dark Desire... or Dank Desire if that's how you do, and he dooo. He'll be dabbling into forum moderation helping out in the Gaming General section.
Secondly a new face is brought to the staffly table in our very own muffin-lovin' Derpy Simon. Hopefully he won't break too many things... Just kidding, I'm sure he'll be fine! Derpy Simon has signed on for mod-ship in the On the Hunt, Team Showcase and Fan-game forums!
If you need anything in those nicks of the woods, feel free to hit 'em up! And to both of you, my thanks for stepping up as we need it.

I'm going to go ahead and close this since this discussion is better-suited to other parts of the forum.

HostGator was our old server host. It has a strong reputation as one of the leading host companies on the net. Unfortunately we did not find its reputation founded, and we had a lot of outages leading to frequent gator icons appearing on the site and informing us that it was broke as shit.
The outages were for a time so common that that period has apparently been dubbed 'the Gator Wars'. I'm a fan, personally.

when can we burn the witch?
please dont burn me :c im the victim not the attacker here

As of now, we seem to be fully recovered. Thanks for bearing with us, and hopefully that's the last we have to deal with it!
As a couple technical notes we are now running Cloudflare, as I'm sure everyone saw based on the error screen we've been fuming at for the past couple days, so this will help to prevent future issues.
Another improvement, though entirely unrelated to this technical debacle: The alternate registration/trainer card import feature on the site has finally been updated to accept Showdown imports rather than PO ones. Thanks to Swimming for correcting that!

Ohayo! Observant forum visitors will notice the sparkly new Anime forum sub- to The Radio Tower.
We decided to try this out on a similar trial as the Athletics/Creative Writing forums were in. For those who weren't around for that, it's basically a use-it-or-lose-it situation. So if you're an ani-maniac-- er, wait, that's something else-- then get to business!
(That probably also means moving out of the general anime thread, should y'all choose)
Note that per the subforum name this forum also applies to Western Animation and Manga.
楽しんでください!

I usually run balanced teams but my playstyle always leans towards stall, because I don't like to take unnecessary risks.
My favorite set-up is something 3-4 walls, some utility, and clean-up hitter.
With an Encore somewhere in there. Encore is my favorite move by a long-shot.
And Hilda loves battling me. <3 -
Kanto: + Sabrina, - Lt. Surge
Johto: + Jasmine, - Chuck
Hoenn: + Wallace (if 3rd gen, else Flannery), - Brawly
Sinnoh: + Candice, - Crasher Wake
Unova: + Iris, - Cilan, Chili, Cress
Kalos: + Valerie, - Wulfric
Reborn: + Titania, - Terra
basically i like everything hilda hates, what else is new

The "Top Dog" Swaaaaaaaaaaag Jockey...how did you guys come up with that title anyway? It's hilariously douchey enough that it fits him perfectly. The wallpaper itself looks fantastic too. Who is next? Taka?
well.
tl;dr we temporarily adopted one of my friend's ex-boyfriends for a reason that i'm still not entirely clear on, because he was homeless and a moderate walking disaster. i mentioned the project and let him play it. on one hand, he was a hardocre rager, so you can imagine how long he lasted. on the other hand, he had a habit of throwing out random ideas every fifteen minutes. most of them were whatever, but the swag jockey comment was too golden to pass up.
(you can also thank him for the pokemon psychologist in 7th)

What's up, scrubs? We've got the top dog coming in to grace your computer screens!
Fern may be a jerk and a half most of the time... Okay, all of the time, but to my surprise he was one of the most initially requested wallpapers*. His art has been done for quite a while, and I'll admit I've dragged my feet in getting it up, partly for focusing on development stuff. Nonetheless, he's here in all his glory, and you are now free to worship him as he would say he deserves.
* Including unanswered requests of his wallpaper featuring his severe injury and/or death
Fern's art comes from apieceoftofu (delicious, vegetarian-friendly, artistically talented).
Later, losers!
(jk you're all awesome)

No, it's only between friends. You have to enter their username.
-
I love the idea but I don't want you guys spending time on it until Reborn finishes its story.
The nice thing about having separate people working on stuff is that I can still work on the story while Kuro works on online features.
Granted, we should probably be focusing on bugs first, this kind of just... happened.
Oh my GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD this looks AWESOOOOOOOME
Inb4 people hack this game with Cheat Engine to win battles with cheap Pokemon
It'll happen. But there's no ladder system. Ultimately you only play against your friends/the people you choose to play with. So if one of your friends is being a jerkbutt and using hacked Pokemon, it's as simple as not playing with that person until they wanna go at it fairly.

Where did you get that? I really like it!
It's from an Etsy shop that was featured on League. Iirc the guy was TheTastefulNerd
Took a while to get here, but worth.

The whole Community Release thing confused me a little, is this going to be a staple to Episode releases?
It is, going forward. Probably for Starlight as well if it's distributed similarly.
I'd like to comment on the fact that Serra and the gym AI in general are a joke. She makes literally 0 use of her field and the AI doesn't help the case at all. Also, most gyms feel like they've been needlessly nerfed . I'd strongly suggest tuning up that AI WAY more than its current status :I Feels like Reborn isn't really challenging anymore if I think back to the 1st playthrough I made.
There's a lot of gravity in what another user said about you developing as a player too, even if you don't notice it. I've found this to be very true over the time of watching people play. You eventually acclimate to the game from the main series. Knowing what to expect in itself makes it a lot easier.
Now that's not to say the AI is great. It's not. E14 AI is dismal. Changes as of 14.7 make singles AI passable. Doubles AI is a disaster still. We're looking at that for E16, and then in E17/18 we'll be adding code to make it actually advanced. In E19 we should be able to add field-specific AI too. It's a work in progress.
But, it isn't being set to half. Almost every gym leader has their AI set to maximum. The code itself is just incomplete from Essentials.
Regardless, I think we can all agree that it isn't like average Pokemon games. Leaders in the main series are jokes. Two pokemon and they're done? Nawh. Now, almost no reasonable fight is going to be unbeatable. The problem is we don't want to pigeon-hole players into a single strategy to beat each fight. Examples of this are the original Charlotte and Serra, where you either bring Rain Dance, bring Drought or Magmar, or you don't have a chance. That's not fun, it's frustrating, especially in effectively forcing players to use those Pokemon.
While Reborn is supposed to be harder than the main series, it's not meant to be a nightmare mode. My goal with gyms is not for it to be impossibly difficult, but to make you, as a player, stop and think about how you're going to overcome it.
If you want Nightmare-Mode Reborn, the game will be open to modding after it's completed.

Yes, this should fix most of them. At least everything that I saw reported and was able to reproduce, anyway. This includes the Jasper Water Grid (though not retroactively) cutscenes misplaying when re-entering Fiore, another pass at berry-related crashes in Aventurine, mistakenly boosted EXP, a few other scripty things, etc.

Six months and several releases later, we're finally here with E15, now patched up and ready for the general
This has been out for around a week now to the forum, which has given us just enough time to clean it up and ensure that the release is fairly stable. Forum members, do remember that a spoiler-lock is in effect until July. So please tag your spoilers, keep them in appropriate places, and be careful with your topic titles!

- Spinel Town
- Route 2
- Consider visiting a Pokemon Center in the new update -before- using Teleport/Dig etc.
- As a final note, the item PC was removed due to its relative uselessness, so please recover any stored items there before updating.

no, not yet.
With E15 coming up, Rejuvenation looking more popular by the day, and a whole host of creative fangames sprouting up from other inspired members, it's getting pretty busy around here! Accordingly, we've made and reorganized for a Fangame forum in the Pokemon section below. This includes Rejuvenation's subforum, but also plenty of room for other projects to grow, and potentially earn subforums themselves should they ever take off. Existing game topics will be moved in there shortly.
Of course, what's a community without some upkeep? In expectation of the release, and increased activity, we're bringing on a couple new mods to the team!
...Of course, I use the term 'new' loosely, being that one of them is a returning staff member himself, @Vinny! The recently-returned and ever-popular Weavile fan is stepping up to bat at a higher position than ever, and there's no doubt he'll be great.
He's also joined on the server side of the equation by newcomer to the site staff, though not a new face to the community in the least... Kyoyo (@Kyoyoyoyoyoyoyo)! Kyoyo's been an active member for a long time and we're excited to have him helping us out on the server-side of things.
Thank you both for your time and commitment, and I'm very glad to have you both helping us as we get ready for the Community Release of E15!

...And more!
...Most of this is not about E15. Sit down.
Don't want to bother reading the following text wall? That's fine. Here's a quick TL;DR of what we're going over:
- + Community Announcement board
- - Athletics board
- Ace Membership now requires 6 Months account age, 750 posts and less than 3 warning points.
- Member accounts now go from Members > Familiars > Veterans > Ace
- The Donation > $R rate is halved
- Item prices have been adjusted.
- SotD and PotD Showdown items have been added.
- E15's release will be separated into two parts: a "Community Release" for forum members, and a "Public Release" for everyone.
- Remember to be courteous and not post un-tagged spoilers in the community after the Community Release!
If you want a more in depth explanation for some of the above stuff, read on!
Community Announcements:
Hi, hello, welcome to a new announcement forum that is in every way identical to the existing announcement forum except for in the fact that it isn't reflected on the front page. This'll help us keep the main site clear of in-community updates. While still important, those don't need to be seen by random visitors who will be more confused than anything by, for instance, exactly what Ace Membership is and why we're talking about it.
An unrelated note: The Athletics forum has been benched for inactivity as promised at its conditional debut. Rip.
Ace Membership and Member Groups
That said, let's talk about Ace Membership.
And when we do, keep in mind none of these changes are retroactive, so existing Aces don't need to sweat.
Anyway, Ace is supposed to be something pretty private and select among older members of the community. But as the community grows, the pace of it has picked up more than anticipated, and our requirements have not quite kept rhythm with it. As such we've made some changes to the requirements in order to be eligible for Ace Membership:
- There is now a 6 Month account age minimum
- The number of posts needed is now 750 (from 500)
- Users with more than 3 warning points (down from 5) may not get Ace.
Firstly, we've found that it's very possible for new users to farm posts up like crazy with the activity around here, so we felt we had to increase the post limit. Second, we acknowledged that this could contribute to post-spam, so as a buffer to that we added the mandatory time. Finally, since Ace Members are supposed to be exemplary to the community, we're coming down on how much we allow them to mess up, so to speak.
In the process of making these changes, some groups are getting shuffled around. Effectively, it's the same as it was between "Members" and "Members*" previously, but we've got some proper names now:
- Members, the default as before
- Familiars are Members who have been here for at least 6 months.
- Veterans are Familiars who have reached 750 posts. At this point they can purchase Ace from the site shop.
So it goes Members > Familiars > Veterans > Ace.
We may also look into expanding permissions for Familiars and Veterans in the future, so having those statuses will be good to scale up as well!
Reborn Economy/Site Shop Changes
We're also making some changes to get our site economy back under control. Whether or not you realize it now, it is off the hook, and we feel it's important for $R to have value to it. There are a few problems right now, one of which is that there's just too damn much of it floating around. I take responsibility for this, partly because I have not been able to update the site shop consistently (someday...) and partly because of donations.
Donations -are- super important and I appreciate everyone who supports the site so much. It's really the only way that we've been able to pay for hosting, etc over the years, and now that money will be continuing to pay for things like wallpaper art, and helping to fund Starlight Divide in the future. So, it's with some reluctance that I'm forced to back down on the rewards for it. While it should not be indicative of any less thankfulness on my part, we'll be halving the donation > $R bonus rate as of tomorrow.
Let's be real, no one needs that much $R anyway.
To account for the $R that is already floating around, we've adjusted some of the prices in the shop, particularly according to their usage (demand affects value??? it's almost like real economics!!...). We've also added two new items for users to get:
- The Song of the Day item allows users to set a song of their choice on the server
- The Pokemon of the Day item allows users to choose which Pokemon is guaranteed to appear in Random Battles that day.
Previously both of these things were kind of done at the whim of auth, so I'm excited to open these options up to users. Keep in mind with these items that they will be placed in a queue, so there could be a backlog of a few days before we get to your song or Pokemon.
Upcoming E15 Release Info
All right, so maybe this is about E15 a little bit.
It's not exactly a secret for users who have been here for past release, but sometimes the episode releases can be a little bit wonky.
Wonky, as in... crashy.
While we do everything we can in Beta, sometimes stuff slips through the cracks. Worse, sometimes changes to fix issues in Beta end up creating more issues themselves. This is why we have bizarre upload numbers like 14.1.1 and 14.6.2 as opposed to just... 14 or 14.5. We had to fix these problems after release.
In order to run damage control on these inevitable issues, we're doing something new with the E15 release. Specifically, it will only be released to registered forum members at first. It will not appear on the main-site until we're sure that it is stable. I'm deeming these separate releases the Community Release, and the Public Release. My hope is that by keeping it contained to the community at first, we run less risk of outside users, who may not check the site so often, getting bugged versions and not hearing about their patches.
So, as many know, the Episode is currently in Beta. I'm not giving you a specific date that that will be finished, but I will give you a "Soon." You'll know the episode has been released to the community when the forum banner changes. At that time, keep your eye on the Public Development subforum in the Reborn section.
Please also remember that we will have the community, server and forum on Spoiler Lock for one month from the community release date!
That's about it for today. Thanks, everyone, for your patience, both in waiting for the episode, and in reading all of that if you chose to do so!

Who shalt this fractured power wield?
At last, it's Serra's Field. Of course, this shouldn't been too much of a surprise given that I already showed everyone part of the arena in that other thread. But I'll leave you all to reflect on the implications of all of this.
Click the image above, or this link to look into the details of Serra's new Mirror Arena!
The Mirror Arena focuses on an constructed mechanic with stacking/consuming evasion and critical hits! Her signature TM, Frost Breath, plays right into this, along with some of her Ice types' other specialties. And yet, in a field like this, missing an attack could actually be somewhat helpful.
Personally, I'm very interested to see how you all play this one.
Additionally, the Obtainable Pokemon page has been updated for E15. Does this mean Beta? No... Not quite. But soon...

Well, it could be a possibility that the presence of Eve and Lumi has influnced the physical apearance; ......in terms of gender presentation.
If there isn't a clear answer, would male with an androgynous gender presentation do it, then?
This is pretty much accurate. It isn't always Zero getting up and dressing himself in the morning. Eventually the three of them had to settle on some sort of shoddy compromise for presentation.
