Intro

A seedy dock, it smells of fish, sweat and grease. The Ships sway in the habour blown by the winds created by the fair Goddess Aelia. Sailors mingle and bustle, doing their jobs and making entertainment for themselves while they toil away. Some of the sailors aren't payed so well, and they find other means to work a wage.

We see a man, his name unimportant, what he looks like much the same. It could be anyone, anything in his place. A Shadowed figure greets him, a sack of gold in his hand. He hands it to him and congratulates him for a job well done. "Thanks for doing the dirty work, as you see I like to keep my hands clean." the shadow whispered, a sinister smile on his lips. "Aye, if you need me fer anythin', ye know where you can find me." the man said. He turned his gold now in hand. The Shadow snickered, picking a wicked blade out from under his waistcoat. He looked at his pocket watch. "Sadly, you won't be leaving friend, your time is up. And lucky you, it is just the time for me to get my hands bloody too!"

"Has the target been eliminated without bringing suspicion?" asked a man, sitting a regal library. There were rows and rows of books. They rested in bookcases embellished with gold and black velvet. The Shadowed Figure from before bows his head. "Yes, Lord Rivenholt, I had that Pesky politician handled quite handily. Luckily the Dockhands are easy to trick since they make little money. Even if he had botched the job I never gave him a name, or showed my face. But now he lies in a puddle of his own blood in a back-alley. and lucky us......dead men tell no tales." the Shadowed snickered at his last remark. "Good, Nevermore comes closer to my grasp, one day I shall rule this city and all of the Shadowed Isles." said Lord Rivenholt, a ambitious sparkle in his eye.

Hello and welcome to the OOC for Dark Destinies, I will be your host Hukuna. This RP is what I call an In-city RP. Rather than be adventurers traveling the world it is set in a central location, that being the City of Nevermore in the Land of the Shadowed Isles. This RP is more about the interaction of Player characters and their employers. They will play a side role to a conflict of Families duking it out for control of the City. Your foes are the People, rather than monsters. At anytime you could fall prey to an assassin, politics or somebody claiming to be your best friend. It isn't safe in the walls of Nevermore, some say it is even more dangerous than the outside world.

Rules

1: Respect your fellow Players

This should be a fun experience for everyone involved, don't bully or harass other players. There will be no tolerance for that here, otherwise you will be removed from the rp.
2: Respect Me, the Host
Players should respect my decisions and trust my Judgement. In no way do I have it out for players or will I ever pick on a character I do not personally like. This will be a rough world, characters WILL die or be injured to the point where they must retire from their adventuring career. Also keep in mind, I will be devoting a lot of time to you guys, respect my time in creating this RP for you guys to enjoy and remember I have put a lot of work into this.
3: No excessive swearing
Using a cuss every now and again is fine. But using one every other word is not, Please try and keep your posts as clean as possible, and use swearing for effect, not just because you can.
4: No over the top Violence, Sexual acts, etc.
Please refrain for doing these things. I know that this is a Dark Fantasy, however Dark doesn't mean you need to torture or cause people to suffer in inhumane ways. You guys are playing the heros in the end. Graphic Sexual Acts should not be included, this isn't Porn or anything of the sort. Innuendo and the like may be made, but if they became too intrusive or degrading in anyway that will be vetoed as well. This rule also has a Zero tolerance policy, I do not suggest breaking it.
5: Only control your own character and nameless NPC's
Do not bunny anyone else's character and do not control ANY NPC I have named. They can be see as per-say my own characters. The only exception to this rule will be Henchmen, which will be extra adventures that may go with you at some point. You will have partial Command of them, but remember I hold the right to make them act as I wish, since their motivations etc. will not always align with yours.
6: This will have some disturbing content, be forewarned.

There maybe an occasional upsetting thing or 2 in this RP, I will not describe them in Graphic detail and I will not glorify them in anyway. but know there will be things like Slavery, and the killing of bystanders and innocents, I will not account the every gory detail of these when they happen, but they may happen. If you think any of this will not allow you to participate, I fully understand, but don't jump in and want to leave later because you can't handle it.

Families and Related Mechanics

The families are the main shakers and movers of the City, they will be the ones mostly employing the PCs and other NPCs. They are the main focal point of the story and are important to what is going on. Players will help move along the actions, however, it is mostly the Families that will do so.

Feuds and Allegiances

Feuds and allegiances are things that apply to Families and anyone under their banners. Feuds are when 2 Families currently don't get along and will absolutely refuse to work together. Feuding Families target each other First out of any others, typically even over Families who threaten them more currently. There will be some Feuds in place at the beginning of the RP. Feuds can be repaired or started as well. It takes a long time to create a Feud or repair it, and even after a Feud is repaired those families will still be on edge with each other.

Allegiances are the opposite of Feuds. It is when 2 Families work together, or promise to come to each other's aid. They work towards each other's goals and try not to step on each other's toes if they can help it. These Families will never attack each other intentionally or of their own violation. Similar to Feuds these take a long time to kindle. However, they are more easily broken as any attack could strain relations to the point where they break instantly.

Players can influence these, but it is pretty limited to guiding the Families in the direction of ridding their Feuds or kindling new Alliances etc... Basically, it is still up to me whether or not the NPCs in the Family are ready to make a change, and it is not entirely in the Players hands.

Family Descriptions

The Rivenholts

Rivenholts: Ravens of the Black Star

Head of Family: Lord Baldric Rivenholt

Coat of Arms: 2 Black Ravens in flight from a Background of a Starry Sky.

The Rivenholts are one of the most powerful and influential families in Nevermore, having the most wealth and readily available cash. They can hire the utmost of experts for tasks, lobby in politics to win the court to their favor. This power however leads them to being enemies with all but their most loyal allies, they are frequently targets of the other families trying to climb the social ladder. The Rivenholts largely made their Fortune in the Fishing Markets have the most successful Fishery In Nevermore, the Raven's Catch. They have private rights too a special fish that lives only in the Nevermore Bay, named the Raven's Cod. It has a similar black coloring to a Raven. Other noteworthy things is the Persistence of the Rivenholts. They will not rest until they have what they want, and won't let anything get in their way.

Their Head Lord Baldric is known for his Aloofness and Stand-offishness. He is a cold, cruel and harsh man. He doesn't care much for conversation and isn't much off one for politics. He is commonly thought an ambitious and callous man. He holds little love of anything other than his goals, and what he seeks to do. He has Jet-Black Hair he always slicks back. His eyes are a deep Purple in color almost seeming as if they were fully black. It is said the Rivenholts are so wealthy Baldric had his iris's encrusted in Jetstone and his hair replaced with it too. Some even say he is so rich his shits are encrusted in them too. Though don't let him hear that, for he is surely an enemy you don't want to make.

Family Motto: There isn't anything in this world money can't buy.

The Rockwells

The Rockwells: The Stone Canaries

Head of Family:Lord Leonardo Rockwell the 5th

Coat of Arms: A Brown Castle on a field of Silver. In front of the Castle is a yellow Canary.

The Rockwells are one of the oldest families still in Nevermore, being just as old as the Rivenholts. They however are one of the Poorer families not having as much money to their name. They are seen as a flighty bunch, that go where the wind takes them, but are rock solid in their traditions. It is not surprising they are a tad strange, since they are mainly comprised of Painters, Writers and Artists of some kind. They generally keep to themselves so they have few enemies in the City. However, they still have high favor in the Courts of Nevermore, due to the many People that still recognize them as the Founders of the City. It was their money that originally started this place, and they won't soon let you forget it. As a result, they are always in the favor of the court, sometimes even the officials other Families have bribed.

Leonardo Rockwell the 5th is a quiet man. He doesn't speak when he doesn't have to and likes to keep to himself. He is an avid painter, and commonly takes breaks in his study to paint during the day. He is an ancient old man, having lived to 103 it is soon his time to depart. The family is in a lof of unrest as tou who will take over the household, and siblings rivalries are bound to explode. Leonardo has Kind Blue Eyes, a distinct trait of the Rockwells, and a full head of Silver hair. He typically Dresses in Yellow as opposed to the Silvers or Browns most of the rest of his family will wear.

Family Motto: Fly from your coop, but don't forget your Roots.

The Ironclads

The Ironclads: The Iron Knights

Head of Family: General Bernard Ironclad

Coat of Arms: An Armoured Arm on a Field of Maroon. It holds in its hand a Grey Knight (the Chess-piece.)

The Ironclads are a military Family through and through. They pay their allegiance to the Home Island, Pandora in service of the King of all Humankind. They are more recent to the City of Nevermore, but always have the support of those that share their allegiance to the Grand King's royal military. They are known for their patience and their ability to plan ahead. Many of their heads have been general's in the Grand King's Armies and are very well known war heros.

Bernard Ironclad is a grizzled War Veteran. Sometimes known as the Bear of the East, he was one of the top General's in the King's army. He was known for his Bold strategy, and seemingly inabilty to ever make a mistake. It seemed he was always one step ahead of his foes, and he led them to glory many a time in the wars with the enemies of the Kingdom. Now in a time of peace he has retired. He commonly wears fancy Maroon waistcoats and a giant wrought Iron Pocket watch. It was a symbol of his station in the military and was specially made for him. (good like trying to steal it by the way......it weighs A LOT for a watch, not the easiest thing to slip out of a pocket without him noticing XD.).

Family Motto: Always be 3 steps ahead.

The Wickwickets

The Wickwickets : The Lily Badgers

Head of Family: Lord Bartholomew Jachobim (Yak-co-bim) Wickwicket the 3rd

Coat of Arms: A Badger on a field of yellow. There are 2 purple Lilies either side of it.

The Wickwickets are an odd family to say the least. They will have you know they aren't a joke, they mean serious business. They acquired their fortune through Wickwicket Winery, an establishment that sells inly the finest Wines brewed by the Wickwicket Family. They also own the the orphanage The Purple Lily in Nevermore, giving a place for the abandoned children to sleep and live. It is run entirely on their own money and makes no profit for them. This makes them enemies with the Rivenholts, as they don't take them serouisly. They are have a Feud with the Ironclads, since they don't agree with them, commonly referring to the lot as blood mongering barbarians. They are Great friends with the Rockwells, the two of the families being closer than any other. As if cut from the same chord of wood, they have gotten along ever since the Wickwickets arrived in Nevermore. The Wickwickets are well know for their tenacity, their lively spirits, and not knowing when to shut up. Never get into an argument with one, as they will either talk your ear off, or keep yapping until they win, which ever comes first.

Bartolomew Jachobim Wickwicket the 3rd........that name is a mouth full. And that should set the tone for the rest of this description.....Bartolomew is a strange fellow, and a rather silly man. He insists you always use his full name when referring to him by name. "No point in using my name if you don't use the whole thing." he has been quoting saying on occasion. He is very short, around 4'9". He is a lively fellow, and seems to be every at once. He is never not doing something, whether he is interrupting Congress for the 3rd time this week, or shouting at children for stepping on his beloved Lilies, he is always somewhere making somebodies day a heck of a lot more interesting.

Family Motto: When the going gets tough, the Wickwickets get going!

The Runeborns

The Runeborns: The Runebearers.

Family Head: Lady Isis Runeborn

Coat of Arms: A Closed Tome, with an Eye on the cover. Over a field of Indigo.

The Runeborns are known for their ties to the Black Rose Mages Guild. Many are highly skeptical of them, however them keep to themselves and are rarely seen out and about. They are the smallest family, but still are very powerful and influentital due to their ties to the Black Rose and the Politicians of the City, most notably the Raven's Council, or the 3 Heads of Congress. They have the higest understanding of magic a lot of the Family members being Mages themselves. Their fortune comes from many places, mostly relating to Magical Services like enchanting etc. They are one of the only familes that get along well with the Rivenholts, and in fact or even aligned with them. Their Allegiance benefits both of them, The Rivenholts being the Money powerhouses they are, and the Runeborns being the man behind the man. Many say it is really the Runeborns who are the most powerful family as they are the true power behind the Rivenholts.

Lady Isis is a strange women. Not much is known about her as she is rarely seen in public. What is known is she is impossibly young looking for her age. She has Raven Black Hair and deep Green eyes. She commonly wears black as she is a Mage of the Black Rose, though that is secret from the Public.

Family Motto: Every Foe is an open book.

The Tazmilies.

The Tazmilies: The Green Harpers

Head of Family: Lord Connor Tazmily the 2nd

Coat of Arms: A Harp on a Field of Green

The Tazmilies are bitter Rivals of the Rivenholts. As they also have earned their fortune from Fishing they have always been in the shadows of the Rivenholts even since they arrived in Nevermore. They hate the RIvenholts hold over the Raven's Cod and their exclusive fishing rights to it. Genereally they are a fighty bunch, full of spitfire and energy. They enjoy a good drink or 2 and are usually merry as can be.

Lord Connor is a very young Lord. The Late Lord Angus died without a Son old enough to pass his household too. Connor is recently 18 and know old enough for the Lordship, however he is very Green and New to the whole ordeal. He doesn't hold much hatred for the Rivenholts himself, but the rest of the family make up for his lack and then some. The Tazmily family doesn't have too many grievances with the other families though. However, the other families do note Conner's Naivety and constantly win over him due to it.

Family motto: Never count out a Tazmily.

Classes

Classes in G:DD aren't Traditional Adventuring classes in a Fantasy Setting. They are more of Specialists and tuned to be more suited to the City rather than out in the field. Classes won't have long descriptions as they are more of guidelines for characters rather than actual classes. At most a character can have 2 Class Descriptors, and no more. These should be used sparingly, and by a case by case basis. Not every PC should have 2 Class descriptors. There should be a only One of each Class descriptor under employ for each family as there isn't need for more than one in most cases. It is a first come first served basis.

Court Wizard

These individuals serve as advisers of magic to the Lord or Lady they are employed by. They can also serve as financial advisers and just counsel in general for they Lords and Ladies as well. They aren't very well suited to combat in any means, typically employing spells that help their Research or assist in Daily tasks. They may keep some Offesive spells in times of tension between 2 families however.

Assassin

Assassins are contracted Killers. they tend to be hired to eliminate certain targets of interest to Families at the time, but keep it on the downlow. They use all manner of poisons, tricks, and underhanded tactics to take down their targets for the Family they are currently Employed by. Assassins aren't in the constant Employ of Families, but they will have ones they prefer to work with.

Hitmen

Hitman are like assassins, but kill their targets to make a statement. They are always in the employ in a certain family, and only work for one. Hitman also function as bodyguards and somewhat as advisers for families on their downtime as well. Hitmen cannot take another Class Descriptor, if playing a Hitman it can be your only one.

Silvertongue (Swindler)

Silvertongues are the Snake Oil salesmen of the world. They trick people with words and lure them into false security. Whether it is too get someone of your back, too buy something at an inflated price or flat out sell them junk, these are the SIlvertongues specialties. Silvertongues are also good spies, and are commonly sent into Enemy Families to scout out their secrets. Though A SIlvertongue can only go undercover once in an enemy family. SIlvertongue pairs well with the Politician Class descriptor as well if playing a corrupt Politician.

Politician

Politicians are members of the Nevermore COngress under the Leadership of the Raven's Council. politicians pull for bills and laws for Families they are in the pocket of and try to get whatever small advantages for them that they can. Politcian PCs can choose to be Neutral Parties, or they can choose a family they are in the pocket of, through bribes, mutual goals etc it is up to the player to make up why they are in this relationship with the Family.

Diviner (Information Mage.)

Diviners are Mages who employ magic to get info no one else could easily. They can use magic to spy on conversations, See into rooms they normally couldn't and many other tricks. They are invaluable to families looking to stay one step ahead of the game. Diviners can also be Court Mages, and can pair with many other descriptors.

Smuggler

Smugglers carry contraband and move slaves through the City. They also can have outside adventures unlike other classes. These adventures take place outside of the city, and possibly in other regions than the Shadowed Isle. They are small set pieces to give the Smugglers some peril when acquiring their ill-gotten goods.

Manor Guard

The head of the guards in the manner the player can manage the guards of the household, and even sometimes be an advisers to the Lord of the Household. If paired with any other Class descriptor however, the Guard thing is a front and used to hide their true identity.

Thief

Thieves thrive in the big city having no shortage of things to steal. They are often deployed by Families to steal important trinkets or secret documents. Thieves can choose to be aligned with the Thieves Guild, or be a Thief of a Family. They will typically be hired under some other title if such is the case.

Create a Class

Is there a Class descriptor here Good 'ole Hukuna forgot about? Maybe you want to break the mold and choose something a little different. All Classes must however be approved by me. Give a description of your class, tell em what it does and why it does it. Since you can tailor these to be more to your liking you may only take a CAC and no other descriptors

Celestine Taugerroth(Rosesong's PC) Runeborn's Court Wizard/Diviner

Character name: Celestine Taugerroth

Faction: The Runebearers

Class descriptors: Court Wizard/ Diviner

Appearance: Celestine is a thin, graceful young woman that stands at 5'7". Her ebony hair reaches down to her ankles and is typically swept up in a double braid (three braids that form a large braid). She has piercing cool blue eyes, to where many frequently mistake them to be gray. Her face is always pale, giving her the impression of being sickly constantly. Occasionally she may don a black berret in addition to her royal blue short-sleeved, floor length dress that she prefers to wear for business. If going out, she'll put on a black travel cloak that is reversible with royal blue on the other side. On her feet are black flats so that she can move around quietly when needed.

Personality: Celestine is a quiet person, always having a book near. She is often mistaken as aloof or rude by those that don't know her. Celestine cares deeply for those that she considers family or friends, and will do anything for them. If someone would try to harm them, she would make them pay in the most painful way possible. She is logical, and tries to find the most reasonable way of doing something before doing it, lest it blow up in her face. She also tries never to pry into the private affairs of others unless the lives of her loved ones are at stake. Celestine is very unwilling to talk about her past, but will if she must.

Background: Early life was hard for Celestine. Her mother and father died at an early age, leaving her as the sole caretaker of her sister, Tauriel, and her brother, Naprath. With no source of income, they quickly fell to the slums of Nevermore. Celestine scavenged for food and money as an amateur Diviner, but it didn't to keep her family intact. Tauriel died that winter of the cold and hunger. Naprath vanished one day several seasons later, and Celestine hasn't seen him since. She vowed that she would continue on in honor of her dead and missing siblings, and began to teach herself the knowledge that she needed to become a Court Wizard. As she taught herself, she slowly became less willing to talk to others unless necessary. Once she was able to gain a stable job, she continued her self-training as a Diviner, making it to where she was equally skilled in both.

Gilwyn Belachi (Stratos's PC) Hitman for the Rivenholts

Name:

Gilwyn Belachi

Faction:

Ravens of the black star

Class Descriptor:

Hitman

Appearance:

a young man standing in at approximately 5'7, with a head of messy, pitch black hair hair and dark, stormy blue eyes that have a way of making most of those who make contact with them tend to feel uncomfortable, almost as if he's glimpsing into their soul. He's a fair complexion, and appears mostly average in most other physical aspects. Gilwyn's outfit of choice is a Black, collared, double breasted Jacket that ends just above the upper thighs, with loose fitting trousers of the same color beneath, and a pair of black, cuffed boots upon his feet. appears to be early to mid twenties

Personality:

Gilwyn tis a mostly silent man, near the point of being aloof. however, he only refrains from talking much because he feels it's best not to waste breath saying needless things, as in the city of Nevermore, one never knows which one will be one's last. a cold and calculating individual, he surprisingly tends to follow loyalty over money, though this doesn't mean much given the fact that he decides his loyalties mostly based on who can offer him the most potential gain. he is mostly out for himself, but his devotion to the Rivenholts is quite real, out of respect for the promise he'd made his Foster father. don't let his often cold demeanor fool you, however; he does tend to open up a little and talk more around those he genuinely trust, which isn't many, and he does have some loyalties he'll never break, such as the one he has towards his foster father, Jolen...

and, well, He'll never admit it, but he's actually got a soft spot for children.(Which sometimes interferes with his convictions and interests)

Background:

Born in Nevermore and raised by his mother, whom fell ill and died shortly before his tenth birthday. Gilwyn was subsequently sent to less than up to par orphanage, and learned there quickly that if he'd have to look out for himself and only himself as he endured constant bullying from the other, older children. in one such instance, a boy his own age stood up to them and they backed off. Gilwyn had thought he'd made a friend, that maybe he was wrong about only looking out for his own good, but then the boy who'd stood up for him turned around and asked for his daily bread, and being no fool, Gilwyn easily figured out that the boy was not his friend and never intended to be such. he realized the boy had only helped him because by doing so, he thought Gilwyn would be more motivated to comply than if he'd gone the other route and tried to bully it out of him, as the older boys had been trying for so long...

but even though Gilwyn knew exactly what the boy's angle was, he had to admit, it had worked, he was far less opposed to handing his lunch over to this boy than he had been with the bullies. and so it was that Gilwyn added another lesson into his mind;

If you want something from other's, you be far more likely to succeed, and with much more ease, if you makethem want to give it to you.

as the years went on, and Gilwyn reached early adolescence, he began trying to put this lesson into play, finding that if he acted in a way that suggested that he was a friend, then people around him were far more likely to comply and give him what he was after. just as his web of lies and friends and deception slowly began to expand and grow within the orphanage, Gilwyn caught the attention of a rather shady man whom was passing by. the man began speaking with the Head of the seedy orphanage. a few moments later, the director, a man whom Gilwyn had honestly come to hate in the two years he'd spent there, ironically gave him the best news of his life;

"Collect what little belongings you've left, boy, this fellow here has decided to take you in."

Gilwyn was elated, though he tried not to show it. he was finally going to get out of this hell hole filled with bullies and thieving little bastards. he honestly had no real things he cared to think of as his 'belongings', but he was glad he didn't, because that simply decreased the time until he was out the front door of the Orphanage and standing on the street with the man who'd chosen to take him in. the man took Gilwyn to his abode, gave him food and new clothing. but the man wouldn't talk to him for the longest while, a few days, in fact, and Gilwyn couldn't help but apply his old theory to this man's actions.

"What does he gain from taking me in?" he pondered to himself often in that first week of living outside the Orphanage.

it was on the first day of the second week of living under his roof that the man finally spoke to Gilwyn for the first time. he remembers the conversation to this day, the two of them were sitting at the table, breaking their fast:

Spoiler

and from that day, Gilwyn decided he really had no other options. it was either let his Foster father, Jolen, as he learned his name to be, train him as his apprentice, or go onto the streets...or back into another group home. it was grudingly at first, but he eventually started to believe Jolen's justification more and more as the years went by. Jolen had taught him all he knew. by the time Gilwyn was twenty, Jolen thought that he was ready to take his place as the Rivenholts hitman. and so it was that Gilwyn took his foster father's place in the contract.

and he now serves the Ravinholts dutifully, bound by the contract, and even more so by his bond with Jolen, one of the sole people he's grown to have any real trust in, to serve in their name for the next eleven years.

Magnus Darkbrand(Flux's PC) Diviner/SIlvertongue for the Wickwickets

Character Name: Magnus Darkbrand

Faction: The Lily Badgers

Class Descriptors: Diviner/Silvertongue

He has blue eyes and wears a red headband on his forehead. He usually wears a white and blue shirt tucked into black pants and boots. He stands tall and fit at a little above 6'. While he would bear quite the heroic figure, his stature is usually covered by his black cloak, masking his face in its dark hood.

Personality: Magnus is an honest man, seeking to help his employer to the utmost. At least, that's what he wants them to think. In reality, he is out for his own personal gain, chasing his own goals. He will put on the facade of a kind and considerate fellow when necessary, but when the time comes, he is utterly ruthless. He will use anyone he can to his advantage if it means he will come out ahead. He is a cold and calculating man, with sinister intentions behind every move.

Background: Raised by a wealthy family, Magnus sought to explore the world as he came of age, always seeking to learn. He slowly came to understand the corruption and underhandedness that took place all around him, and was intrigued by it. He sought to learn all the trickery he could, and how to best exploit the trust you could gain by being patient and polite. He was quickly corrupted during these times. He had learned some magic from his tutor as a child, and honed this talent, shaping it into something dark and useful to his needs. He eventually arrived at Nevermore, and found that the conflicts between families would be the perfect place for his abilities. He settled down and began learning of the families' various motives and interests, preparing a wealth of information for his use. He became the pinnacle of a perfect human, in any public light. But when night falls, his darker side begins to take over...

Firo Baldur (Typh's PC), Manor Guard for the Ironclads. Also, a smuggler.

Firo mostly don't interact with other humans unless when needed. despite of him being in the smuggling business, He is only interested in weaponry and basic essentials . He doesn't approve smuggling slaves or exotic wildlife taken away from their natural habitat due to his soft spot for the wild. (he's a tree hugger) especially when they're torturing them. He liberates these animals by negotiating or beating the pulp out of these traders if necessary.

He is still struggling to be civilize in the dark and grim city, trying to conceal his natural born hunter traits.

Background: Once a former savage in the woods, Firo was a full born native in some island not far from nevermore. He spends his time hunting with his tribe, harmonizing with nature. until that faithful day. Firo was about in his early 30s when he was captured and was taken away by some smugglers from his homeland. forcing him to fight in some underground pit for slaves in Nevermore. He shows his animal instincts and savagery by killing off all who dares to oppose him in that pit. The ironclads was impressed and decided to buy him. Under their guidance, the Ironclads tamed this Wildman into a functioning citizen of Nevermore and one of their own. (or so they thought).

Relos Tedosian (Murdoc's PC) Artificer (check character description.) for the Ironclads

Character Name: Relos Tedosian

Faction: The Iron Knights, though he hides this for the most part.

Class Descriptors: Relos is an artificer. A mix between a blacksmith and an enchanter, artificers create magically imbued weapons, armor, and other magical items. These range from simple artifacts like unusually sharp blades and strong breastplates to full-blown magical weapons and armor, given enough time and the right price. Artificers supplement the work of a normal armorer with stronger, higher quality weapons for elite soldiers and nobility. An artificer has access to a surprising amount of information depending on his customers. Orders for anti-scrying amulets or large amounts of weapons and armor can clue in one on exactly what one's enemies are doing.

Appearance: Fairly tall and fair-haired. For the most part, he lacks the bulky build of most smiths, since a lot of his work is done with magic, though the work does show on his frame. He has a fondness for expensive cloaks. His hands and forearms are covered in scars and minor burns from his work. He has bright blue eyes and some of his hair is charred. His somewhat unkempt hair has a few burnt portions, though he does a good job of trimming these.

Personality: Relos is very careful and very serious when it comes to his work. He strongly dislikes it when a shoddy job is done by anyone. He tends toward gruffness, but this is mostly due to fatigue and being concerned with a number of issues. Relos takes joy in creating high-quality objects and considers himself a kind of artist. Following his principles to a fault sometimes leads him to trouble and actions that most would consider foolish. He finds the feud with the Wickwickets regrettable but many of them irritate him on a personal level. When his vision isn't obscured by distractions or his strong emotions, he is quite kind and charitable. He tends to be overly trusting.

Background: Relos has lived in the city for all of his life. Apprenticeship was an excellent option for him, coming from a family that wasn't precisely well-to-do, so he signed on with an older smith. He spent much of his free time in libraries, digging up tidbits of magical knowledge. He started to experimentally apply this to his work, and over time became a talented artificer, with his master, a regular armorer for the Ironclads, guiding his more mundane learning. When the old man died without any family in the city, Relos inherited the smith's workshop - and his contracts. Seeing them as an obligation he had to fulfill, he became a fast and loyal servant of the Ironclads, supplying them with magical steel and the details of any order another family placed with him. One night, a young thief broke into the smithy. He was prepared to teach the kid a lesson about respecting property himself, but the young man had a convincing story and a shocking resemblance to Relos, at least when he was younger. He offered the young man, Ryger, an apprenticeship on the grounds that he stop his troublemaking - or, at least, that he try harder to not get caught.

Ryger (Chimchain's PC), Potential recruit for Thieves Guild. Apprentice to Relos.

Character Name: Ryger

Faction: Thieves Guild

Class Descriptors: Thief (he’s also a blacksmith apprentice for appearances)

Appearance: Ryger has long blonde hair that reaches the base of his neck. He usually keeps it into a ponytail. He has blue eyes, is 16 years old and 5’3” tall. His arms are a bit more muscular than the rest of his body from the hard work at the blacksmith. During the day he usually wears his blacksmith clothes; a dirty grey shirt and brown leather pants. When he goes out stealing he wears a dark clothes and cloak to conceal his face and hair.

Personality: Ryger behaves friendly and polite towards people and customers. He also shows respect for people with high ranks in the city, but deep down he doesn’t care. Ryger sees everyone as a potential target, unless they are customers who visited the shop not long ago (to avoid a pattern). He doesn’t trust people and has a habit of collecting things that are hard to get, no matter what the value is. He also enjoys the thrill of locating his target and taking it without getting caught. His goal is to collect enough money so he can spend the rest of his life in wealth.

Background: Ryger grew up in the slums. His only relative was his selfish, alcohol addicted father. Ryder was forced to take on various different jobs such as polishing up the shoes of the rich or bringing around errands for a very little paycheck. He did it for years without complaining until his home situation became worse. Ryger’s father lost his low payment job and forced his son to give everything he earned to him, just so he could spent it all on alcohol. Ryger barely had anything left to eat, let alone some ‘new’ clothes or shoes and his father still demanded more money or would kick him on the street.

Ryger did what he was told and as time passed by, he grew more and more bitter. Life wasn’t fair and soon he learned that if you want something, you have to take it. He started to hone his thieving skills by pickpocketing from the rich and stealing food from carts. Months passed by and Ryger, who kept some money to himself, became careless. His father caught him eating fresh bread and demanded to know where he got it and how he paid for it. Ryger refused to answer and it got into an ugly fight which resulted in him running away, with nothing but a knife (the first thing he stole).

Desperate and without a place to go, Ryger became more bold. He resorted to breaking in and stealing more valuable items. He stayed undetected for a long time and even found a place to call home. One day, two years ago, he was almost caught. Ryger left a house with a pocket full of money, when some guards ran into him by accident. In an attempt to shake his pursuers off, he ran into a nearby blacksmith to hide. The smith found him and thought Ryger wanted to steal from him. Ryger was able to persuade the man with a story about how he wanted to make it out of the slums by learning a skill. The smith felt sorry for him and hired him as his apprentice.

On that moment Ryger thought about starting a new and honest life. He threw away his last name and sold everything he had stolen with exception of the knife, but his good intentions failed. The thievery had become a habit. It was who he was. He tried to resist it, but the temptation was too much. Only a few weeks after he was hired, a snobby, unthankful and very rich lady shoved the door in his face when he brought her husband’s new sword. A week later the new sword was hidden under a plank in Ryger’s home. It was the only time he ever stole from a customer.

Gilwyn's outfit of choice is a Black, collared, double breasted coat, with loose fitting trousers of the same color beneath, and a pair of black, cuffed boots upon his feet. appears to be early to mid twenties

Gilwyn had thought he'd made a friend, that maybe he was wrong about only looking out for his own good, but then the boy who'd stood up for him turned around and asked for his daily bread, and being no fool, Gilwyn easily figured out that the boy was not his friend and never intended to be such. he realized the boy had only helped him because by doing so, he thought Gilwyn would be more motivated to comply than if he'd gone the other route and tried to bully it out of him, as the older boys had been trying for so long...

but even though Gilwyn knew exactly what the boy's angle was, he had to admit, it had worked, he was far less opposed to handing his lunch over to this boy than he had been with the bullies. and so it was that Gilwyn added another lesson into his mind;

If you want something from other's, you be far more likely to succeed, and with much more ease, if you make them want to give it to you.

as the years went on, and Gilwyn reached early adolescence, he began trying to put this lesson into play, finding that if he acted in a way that suggested that he was a friend, then people around him were far more likely to comply and give him what he was after. just as his web of lies and friends and deception slowly began to expand and grow within the orphanage, Gilwyn caught the attention of a rather shady man whom was passing by. the man began speaking with the Head of the seedy orphanage. a few moments later, the director, a man whom Gilwyn had honestly come to hate in the two years he'd spent there, ironically gave him the best news of his life;

"Stop thinking so hard about what I'll get from raising you, boy; you'll never figure it out, not even after I'm long dead and gone" the man had said. Gilwyn had been shocked at first, he thought he was addresing someone else, and had looked around the room, then realizing as he saw no one else there that the man was obviously talking to him.

"W...What do you mean, sir?" Gilwyn had asked. he'd learned a thing or two about the honroific by listening to the workers at the Orphanage from time to time.

"Don't play stupid, Gilwyn." The man had said in response. Gilwyn had thought it strange that this man knew his name without his telling him...

"Oh, that's right..." he had then thought to himself "He adopted me... of course he probably asked the Director what my name was"

"That's right boy," the man had continued on "I asked the Director of that shit pile that barely passes for a foster facility what your name was"

"Can...are you a mind reader?" gilwyn had asked, a bit astonished how the man had seemingly known exactly what he was pondering

"No, boy," the man had replied "Though if I was, the cash I could rake in... but no. I could tell you were surprised that I knew your name, and that you'd realized the only real way I could've learned it without you telling me. it's all written in your face boy, in your eyes and body language"

Gilwyn had felt himself relax a little, now assured that this man would not be able to just peer into his mind and see his thoughts whenever he so pleased.

"What do you do for a living?" Gilwyn had asked next, curious as to the answer.

"I'm a hit man, of sorts..." the man had answered "A hired killer. someone who silences those who need silencing for their clients"

"Do you..." Gilwyn had pasued, not knowing whether he should ask

"Do I work for one of the rich families around here?" the man had cut him off as he collected the now empty plates from the table and put them into the wash basin nearby

"Am I really that easy to read?" Gilwyn had asked, a bit annoyed. he doesn't like it when people can tell what he's really thinking, and he sure as hell didn't like it when he was a kid.

"Like a Book, Gilwyn." the man had answered "And to answer that other question, Yes, I work for one of the rich families of Nevermore; the Rivenholts. he had shown him the small patch on his tunic as he said the name, and Gilwyn could see the man wasn't lying. even in the orphanage, people had known the crests of the head families of nevermore.

"so you do..." gilwyn had responded simply

"so I do" his foster father had said back "Tell you what, boy, I'll tell you what I gain from taking you in..."

"What?" Gilwyn had asked a bit more eagerly than he'd intended

"I'm getting to be old, Gilwyn. in another couple of years, I be too old to go dashing around the city, plunging the knife into the chest of the Rivenholts enemies... but my contract is for another twenty more years... so I'm going to raise you like my son and train you to taken my place in the contract. you're my fill in, my replacement."

Gilwyn had reeled back alittle at that... he didn't think he'd get out of the group home only to be molded into a murderer.

"Relax." his foster father had told him "It's not murder like you think it is, you're merely the silencer, the one neutralizing those who need to be neutralized most. you won't be killing women or children or anything like that..."

and from that day, Gilwyn decided he really had no other options. it was either let his Foster father, Jolen, as he learned his name to be, train him as his apprentice, or go onto the streets...or back into another group home. it was grudingly at first, but he eventually started to believe Jolen's justification more and more as the years went by.

Her skin very white, sometimes pinkish and it burns pretty easily. Aby's relatively pretty, with a heart shaped face, small nose, bow shapped lips and distinctive red eyes.

Personality: Outwardly very friendly and socially adept, although, she couldn't care less for small talk and she rarely speaks her inner thoughts. Aby very easily lies, although, she may on occasion stumble with them. She is quite stubborn with many things and has a tendency to hold grudges, very rarely forgiving a person for anything 'bad' they may have done but on the other hand, very rarely forgetting good deeds and favors.

Character Name: Magnus Darkbrand

Faction: The Lily Badgers

He has blue eyes and wears a red headband on his forehead. He usually wears a white and blue shirt tucked into black pants and boots. He stands tall and fit at a little above 6'. While he would bear quite the heroic figure, his stature is usually covered by his black cloak, masking his face in its dark hood.

Personality: Magnus is an honest man, seeking to help his employer to the utmost. At least, that's what he wants them to think. In reality, he is out for his own personal gain, chasing his own goals.

Just going to say The Wickwickets are going to be hard for him to get along with, they are highly good people, and they will drive him to insanity faster than any person on Graterras. Just letting you know ahead of time, your personality isn't very compatible with them as a family. If you up for the challenge I will accept him, but if not I suggest changing to the Rivenholts, they are the most like your character. I will wiat for your response before accepting our friend here.

(pssstt.......Strat, your Faction is Ravens of the Black Star, that is their Coat of Arms.)

@ Snap Also, if you don't take a role as an actual Diviner as well, I think I will be okay with it. Basically, if you only use it to bolster your Assassin stuff and aren't also an informant for the Family too as you might be a bit too op. Being an albino is fine, but don't expect to be treated too well though.

Also I decided against other races from the Interest thread. This is a Human city so I think other races would be much to rare to allow people to play them, so sorry if you guys don't like that too much, but Human only it is. The story is more or less based on Human Families etc, and it makes a little less work for me.

Yea i think it could be a little too powerful, it is definitely a combo I didn't think of lol.

Alright though Snap, I think Aby will be accepted once you get your backstory up. (unless it is like bat shit crazy.), remember, if she was born in Nevermore, certain parts of this city are a shit hole and she could have been abandoned as a child due to being albino. SHe could have learned how to survive and do whatever is necessary to do so. This is just a launching point and I am spitballing a bit here for you. Feel free to do what you want with her background, as she is your character after all.

Good luck guys, and as for me: at first I'm out. I have an important exam in less than a month from now, and i'm thinking of staying away from the PC for two weeks or so (after I finish Under the Hill chapter 2 of course). After that I can say I'm very interested in joining. ^_^

For now good luck everyone!

Alright. I'm looking forward to play this version of Gilwyn. feel free to Construct a past for his Foster father, Jolen.

for anything before the point at which he took in Gilwyn, I'm pretty much just gonna hand over Jolen's history to you, as you are the one directing the story and world, and ergo would be able to put together a far more likely back story for the man and his employment history than I would.

(PS. feel free to PM me if you ever want to collaborate about anything regarding his Foster Father.)

Indeed. I think I am just going to leave his legend alone for the most part. Like he will definitely be somewhat of a known name. It is mainly a convenient tie to get the connection between the Rivenholts and you however. I may flesh it out at some point though, and I will definitely at least run anything by you first.

Well... I was deciding between the Wickwickets and Rockwells precisely because of their good personalities. I was thinking of having him play the "obedient and understanding advisor" while secretly gathering the information for his own purposes, and perhaps eventually using that to help the family in return. If this doesn't work, I can definitely change families without much adjustment to his character.

Character Name: Mitrille /mɪtəij/ Selendreene

Faction: Congress of Nevermore

Class Descriptors: Politician

Appearance: A slim, tall man in his thirties, with shoulder long light brown (and partially grey) hair cut short in the front parts of his head (mullet) whose delicate hands betray his lack of need to have ever performed any labour himself. He has dark brown eyes, and a small, downward pointing nose. His face is a bit narrow for a man, abruptly ending in a flat chin. He usually keeps his beard very short, almost only a shadow, and has no moustache.

His choice of clothes usually involves overcoats that reach slightly below his knees. He prefers warmer colours in general, and never wears black, perhaps with the exception of his shoes. His pants are often loose, with fluffy trouser ends, which often hide major parts of his boots. He is always wearing an expensive looking ring on the middle finger of his left hand. The ring is made of silver and has a sapphire embed into it. Judging from its style, it must have been made by a Grey Elf, or somebody imitating their craftsmanship.

Personality:Mitrille is a logical, calculating man. He managed to earn his place in Nevermore only because of this. He is seldom surprised, and even then he downplays it. Unless, of course, he is not surprised at all, only pretending... There is, however, a certain honesty to Mitrille. While he likes to be on top, he is not cruel and does not like to openly cheat others, nor does he usually mean any harm, unless it would also mean a really significant gain on his part. He likes his money, but also treasures his co-workers and employees. If there is one blatant weakness this man certainly has, it is women. Especially certain types. From outside observations, he usually prefers somber, confident types.

Background:Mitrille Selendreene, a new addition to the Congress, once a very successful spice merchant who sold one of his two ships and bought an old tavern in Nevermore in order to transform it to a more high class establishment; Remorse. He still keeps his contacts in order to import what is best for his guests, and keeps his business running smoothly, so that even one of the detached Runeborns may want come to Remorse and have a drink. With whomever they like to have it with.

This all, however, is a facade. Mitrille, and that is by no means his real name, has not been a merchant for more than a few months. In reality, he was once known through Nevermore as an assassin, nicknamed “Scribe” for whatever reasons. He was known for his good professional manner, never looking into his employers too much, never asking questions. And so, while he was by no means the best, he earned himself quite a sum over those few years of his zenith.

Unfortunately, his professionality meant that he could not refuse a job lest that would ruin him forever. And so, he couldn’t refuse the job that eventually meant the end of his career. The catch was simple. His target was a one of the most noble of nobles. Somebody on the high end of one of the six families.

Having done in his quarry, Scribe realised that there was no future for him as he was. He had to flee the inevitable wrath of the mourning. He erased his tracks as best he could, but he knew that it would not be enough. He could thank his unwanted fame, for once. Faking his death was an easy task, as the rumours spread immediately. He took out a few tough guys with him for it to be more believable.

And so, he set out to the sea, looking for a job on the ships of spice merchants. Through wit and foul play, he eventually climbed to the top. Then, he returned for whatever reason. He had a magician erase his scars, from both his face and hands, and alter his hair colour. The said magician later found his pockets full of gold, with a list of recommendations for just peachy places to live in. Mitrille thanked his stars that his earlier self had never exposed his visage to anybody.

The rest of story, you well know.

@Murdoc, yea you can't play Nobles exactly. It is fine if you come from wealth but it can't be because of nobility.

@EXlink, yea that class is much to similar to Hitman and Assassin for me to even allow it. If you are going to create a class, I prefer it be entirely different to anything already presented. Also, that Magic would be described as Illusion class magic, which is creating constructs that aren't really there to trick the senses of another being. (This includes sounds, lights, smells, etc. to misdirect or trick opponents.). I don't really want classes that are entirely suited to combat in Dark Destinies as it really isn't about that, while the Hitman and Assassin seem to be, they are actually going to be interacting with the Nobles Contacts and others more often than stabbing somebody or getting into a prolonged fight. Hitman yes, kill people in a rather loud way, but it is rarely going to be a huge fight unless 2 Hitman go up against each other. (also pretty much any assassin has a calling card, and the player could choose to do one or not, it doesn't need to be added to class for it to be allowed.)

Second, no creating actual Members of any of the Royal families. I already have their lineages planned out, therefore there isn't any room to create members of the families. (and I prefer you don't have direct contact with them either. Contact with a member of their Staff however is totally fine, but no relationships of any kind with the Nobles themselves. None of your characters are going to be entirely significant enough to have personal relationships with them. [and this is why I haven't revealed anyone but the head of the family.]) so that entire last part of the backstory will have to change. PM me if you need any help, or what to discuss your Class thing.

@Everyone else that created a character that I haven't gotten to yet, I will get to you guys in a bit. A little busy so I will run through them when I get a chance. EX's character had a few more glaring issues, why I blitzed through it.

I just come up with a class:

Headhunter - an hitman/smuggler hybrid. these are picky contract killers with a higher set of standards, convincing them wont be easy, Mainly they just do it for the trill of the hunt, hunting down their prey is like a sport to them and with every kill is like a trophy for them. they take their time to assess their victim, headhunters don't mostly conceal themselves. they even show up introducing themselves to their target to know that they're being hunted and giving them a head start as a sign of respect.

They're are well equip and have multiple hiding place throughout the city which they keep their weaponry and trophies, they use hound dogs, eagle scouts or any just a common rat to track down their prey. As for their weaponry, they use modified traps, bullets, blow darts, grenades that have various effects like freezing, poisoning, paralyzing, blinding etc.

In their downtime, they are smugglers importing/exporting goods throughout the world improving their arsenal and collecting exotic stuffs. The disadvantage of this class is that they rely on their equipment too much and might slow them down when it comes in a hand to hand combat.

what do you think?
