Fire Emblem on Forums: Tiny Steps (OOC)

Powder Miner

Recommended Posts

With a grunt, a figure hauled herself bodily up with one of the pitons that she was carrying, a thwack following that grunt as another piton slammed into and partially splintered the surface that she was hanging off of. This was dangerous work, and it always had to be undertaken with care lest she go hurtling to her death. The harness that she'd been given by the other scholars helped, to be sure, but if she fell all that harness represented was a chance not to die! It wasn't like what she was climbing had any solid points to knot the thread around, and it wasn't like she was terribly strong, either. The thread was simple twine taken from an old craft room, but it was the size of the arms of the figure climbing on it, and that figure's extra legs, yellow and spindly and protruding from her abdomen through her clothing, twitched in stressful little movements, the tiny little person on her shoulder chattering with her own nervousness. The surface the figure was climbing was wooden, and it was no wonder that it was daunting to her -- it was around three or four feet tall, whereas the figure managed a mere one and a half inches herself. But her fellow bugs back home needed to keep making progress... if she let an old human dining table get the best of her, what would it mean for that? Yes, her fellow bugs were making progress, and therefore so would she... one tiny step at a time.

Welcome to

Fire Emblem on Forums: Tiny Steps!

This damned game has been months and months in the making and I'm overjoyed to finally get it out the door -- a lot of effort went into this, and I'm proud to now be running it.

While I suspect that probably very few people reading this will be unfamiliar with the genre of game this is, for those of you who might be, this is a Fire Emblem on Forums game -- a play by post tactics game, run in a mechanical system based on the Fire Emblem game series. These games are meant to be mixtures of roleplay and tactical gameplay, and I fully intend to commit to both of these in Tiny Steps, especially the former! Tiny Steps is a game I really intend to suffuse with my vision... it takes place in a very peculiar setting with a very particular premise, and I want this game to take place in that setting from top to bottom, from the world you're in to the situations you navigate to the enemies you face to the terrain you fight on, to of course the characters you play!

To those of you who haven't been present for my months of ranting about my setting, the premise is this: Thirty years ago, humanity disappeared, and suddenly taking their place were bugs -- very tiny, very confused, and suddenly forced to put together their own societies and adjust to a human life, among the vast ruins of their predecessors. And so you all play as tiny little people, just a couple of inches tall, in very tiny but very complex societies, taking on a task as big as any human's.

But to go into more detail... here's my lore!

Lore:

I wrote a lot of lore for this game -- in fact, roughly around 15.7-15.9k words -- so it's very much understandable that reading it all might be a fairly daunting task. To this end, I want to highlight below the lore that you do and do not have to read, as some of it is much more vital to character-making than others. The categories I've separated the many lore pastebins into are, respectively: Basic Lore, Regions, History of the Scholars' Redoubt, and Bug Types, only two of which are mandatory reading.

Basic Lore:

Spoiler

This is the first of two sets of pastebins that I am declaring as mandatory reading for making characters for this game -- the stuff in here is really basic to understanding even the core premises of the setting and characters within it, so it's vitally important that you be up on it. (Except for Understanding Magic, which you only need to read for magic-using characters.)

Understanding Bugs: https://pastebin.com/Aqe3sWk9

Understanding the World: https://pastebin.com/EN72BiVk

Understanding Bug Civilization: https://pastebin.com/4Wq55D08

Understanding Magic: https://pastebin.com/se7qnC9P

Map:

Spoiler

tinystepsareamap.png

Regions of the World:

Spoiler

This isn't mandatory reading, as there's kind of a LOT of writing here... I did go in rather hard on the regions of the world, haha. While I'd sure like if you read it, you don't have to because you don't really need to know the individual politics of the regions of the world, even if it does provide you with options.

Southern Regions (The Scholar’s Redoubt, Black Fields, Red Fields, Marauders’ Agreement, Sea-folk, The Magnates, Domains of Cooperation, Giants’ Forest): https://pastebin.com/s803wgQh

Western Regions (Driftwood Coast, Walled Quarter, Termite Ruins, Three Lakes Hermits, Home of Frogs, Land of Plains, Banner Tribes, Fishers): https://pastebin.com/Spn61fsk

Central Regions (Red Path, Bird Raisers, Bees’ Fields, Tin City, Wasp Hell): https://pastebin.com/brjTDR4b

Northeastern Regions (Land of Mystics, The Poets, Ghost Towns, Noreast Villages, The Smiths, The Brothers, Alliance Against the North): https://pastebin.com/js9ceuqd

Micro Bugs (Mites, Parasites): https://pastebin.com/2VfXZ0qE

History of the Scholars' Redoubt:

Spoiler

This isn't mandatory reading either, though it would be nice; it's important for understanding the region, but you won't really need to in-depth to play the game, at least as long as you pay attention or ask me questions.

History of the Scholars' Redoubt: https://pastebin.com/F7AW0gun

Bug Societies of the Scholars' Redoubt:

Spoiler

These pastebins are one of the two groups of pastebins that I want to establish as mandatory reading -- given that they explain how various types of bugs live and are named, these are pretty vital to understand.

Black Ants, Red Ants, and Aphids: https://pastebin.com/htZadkLM

Bees, Hornets, and Termites: https://pastebin.com/eZE6G2nK

Mosquitoes, Beetles, Flies, Spiders, and Butterflies: https://pastebin.com/45g9NJ7y

Other bug types exist, such as cockroaches, red velvet "ants" (really wasps), paper wasps, grasshoppers, mantises and moths, but I'm obviously not going to be able to write for every type of bug there is, haha. If you have questions about a bug type not here covered, or questions about the lore in general, ask me! (I just ask that you are reasonably committed to playing an unlisted bug type before asking me, I don't want to have to write like twenty of them.)

Mechanics

This game uses the Fire Emblem on Forums v2.3 handbook!

As is fairly standard for Fire Emblem on Forums games, I've put together a set of houserules that modify the game -- this might look pretty daunting, but you don't have to worry about class changes for classes that you don't intend to give your character.

General Changes:

Spoiler

Supports that give +5 crit instead give +2.5 crit. Supports that give +5 dodge still give +5 dodge.

New formula for Ailment staves: Staff%= Staff Hit + [(User MAG - Target RES) * 3] + (SKL * 2) - (Distance between user and target * 5)

DR will be calculated at the same time as DEF and RES, largely because I don’t want to bother trying to remember the order. If Armored and Wyvern Scales make a unit literally invincible, as a forewarning, this may see me make a nerf, but short of a really extreme scenario I won’t do so.

Characters may choose any starting weapon within the proficiencies of their class. (I don’t see any real good reason why to stick with the specific starting weapons for each class in the book. It just delays peoples’ builds and lumps units together a little more.)

Personal Skills:

Spoiler

Stillness and Provoke are not available.

Savior, in addition to its other effects, gives the user +3 Aid.

The following new skills are available:

-Aegis (Free): When suffering an attack from Bows, Hidden Weapons, Tomes and Dragonstones, there is a (SKL+LCK)% chance to reduce the damage dealt by half.

-Aegis+/Pavise+ (Cost): When suffering an attack, there is a (SKL+LCK)% chance to reduce the damage dealt by half.

-Desperation (Free): When making an attack or counterattack, if you are < or = 30% HP, you may make any followup attacks after your first attack/counterattack.

-Desperation+ (Cost): When making an attack or counterattack, if you are < or = 40% HP, you may make any followup attacks after your first attack/counterattack, and you gain 15% crit.

-Dragon Ward (Free): When an adjacent ally suffers an attack, there is a (SKL+LCK)% chance, based on your stats, to reduce the damage by half.

-Dragon Ward+ (Cost): When an adjacent ally suffers an attack, there is a (SKL+LCK)% chance, based on your stats, to cancel it out altogether.

-Pavise (Free): When suffering an attack from Swords, Lances, Axes and Monsters, there is a (SKL+LCK)% chance to reduce the damage by half.

-Rend Heaven (Free): During an attack, you have a (SKL+LCK)% chance to deal damage equal to half your enemy’s STR or MAG stat based on the type of weapon you are wielding. (lf using a physical weapon, calculate with enemy’s Strength. If using a magical weapon, calculate using the enemy’s Magic. Weapons capable of both use the stat that targets the same defensive stat as they do.)

-Trailblazer (Free): Penalties for moving into forest, desert, deep snow, and hills tiles are reduced by 1. No ill effects from Weather are suffered as well.

-Vengeance (Free) – During an attack, you have a (SKL+LCK)% chance to add half of your missing HP to your attack.

Class Changes:

Spoiler

Trainee:

Archer Trainees no longer promote to Outlaw (though Thief Trainees still do) and instead promote to Apothecary (see the new classes spoiler).

Rider Trainees, if going to Wyvern Rider, can pick lances or axes as their weapon proficiency. If going to Pegasus Rider, they can choose swords or lances as their starting proficiency. If they are going to Cavalier, they can choose any of the three.

First Class:

Apothecaries now can use vulneraries and concoctions on anybody and still attack during the turn, rather than just vulneraries on themselves.

Cavaliers can choose between Swords/Lances and Axes/Lances for weapons.

Fighter’s “Clear a Path” ability now also applies to Pillars, to Forts, and to any miscellaneous terrains I create in the game that cost 2 MOV to move into.

As a quick note, Mage and Scholar have had their class abilities switched in 2.3, so don’t go into these classes expecting their 2.2 iterations.

Pegasus Knights may choose between Swords and Lances for proficiencies.

Shaman’s Ancient Gamble trades 1 SPD for 1.5 MAG (rounding up), instead of 1 SPD for 1 MAG.

Tactician has Press the Assault’s effective range reduced from 3 to 2.

Troubadour gets a buff on Healing Flow – each turn’s worth of healing is 1/2 the normal healing amount, not 1/3 the normal healing amount.

Wyvern Knights may choose between Lances and Axes for proficiencies.

Promoted Classes:

Assassin’s Vital Strike is limited to a cap of +25 Crit at maximum.

Berserker has Berserker Barrage capped at a total of +24 crit from sacrificing DEF/RES.

Dark Rider’s Life Steal only heals 33% of max HP.

Dread Fighter’s Element of Surprise also applies on pillars, and any miscellaneous 2-MOV terrain I add that isn’t completely open.

Falcon Rider’s Charge must be declared during the initial attack.

Illusionist doesn’t get Brilliant Disguise, but instead they get the following ability: Deceptive Dance: The Illusionist can choose to create an illusion and refresh the action of one allied unit within 2 spaces. This doesn’t replace Bolster, which Illusionist does get.

Nomad Healer can create healing items for the following costs instead of what’s in the book: Herbs and Vulnerary: 100 Gold. Tonic: 150 Gold. Potion: 250 Gold. Concoction: 350 Gold

Nomad Trooper’s Master of the Plains activates on any open terrain outdoors.

Saint’s Splashover can be applied 3 times per map, and Doublebuff only takes 2 QL.

Shadow Sword’s Marked for Death doesn’t apply to the overall bosses of a level, but can be used on midbosses and other named enemies.

Swordsmaster has Faster than the Eye capped at +30.

Finally, the Character Creation:

Who are you?:

Spoiler

Mechanically, you will be Level 1 Trainees. Don't worry too much about class balance here -- while I would like at least one healer application, I have 2 intended party NPCs that I'm going to use to balance the party's roles if we need to do so. I'll also accept multiple healers.

Fluffwise, you're members of a party sent by the Council of Leaders, a council of the military leaders of the region from the regional military capital, the Redoubt, to the regional civilian capital, the Scholars' University. This is a customary, annual expedition where the party sent from the Redoubt is meant to see if the scholars have any large-scale projects that they have need of an escort for, and to see what progress they've made in the year... but thanks to repeated failures of these large-scale efforts in recent years, the Scholars' University has taken serious losses to its prestige, and accordingly the Council this year is not sending their most elite and decorated people, in order to send a message: that they're displeased and disdainful of the Scholars' University, and that it needs to step it up.

This means that you might be a totally normal rank-and-file member of one of the militaries of the region, you might be a misfit who has never managed to do well, you might be a cheap mercenary sent by one of the polities to make it easy on themselves, you might be a volunteer still believing in the scholars, you might be some well-connected person's relative trying to get an easy task under your belt in a mistaken attempt to increase your own prestige, or you might be many other things!

You're just probably not a world-renowned hero.

Half of you will come in in the prologue, and half of you will come in in Chapter 1, in the Scholars' University -- you may be earlier delegates or volunteers that just got there before the prologue group, or you might also be someone the scholars there found interesting and are studying or working with.

Biography: (This is mandatory -- it shows writing quality and your understanding of the mandatory parts of my lore. You do, however, have the choice of either posting it with the sheet or PMing it to me.)

I have two more things to note.

A: If you sign up for this game, I want you to commit to making an effort to RP at least sometimes. I'm not gonna put a gun to your head and force you to write for every scene or even every chapter, as I've certainly decided to hang around in the background for chapters of other games, I just don't want to have characters that only exist as empty statblocks for the battles, with your only post being number coordinates during those battles.

B: If you have questions about the game or FEF in general, feel free to contact me on discord, where I can be found both on the server for FEF games on this forum (invitation here: https://discord.gg/MnKEmR8) and on the

server for FEF games on Bay12/the system in general (invitation here: https://discord.gg/yCvR2wV)!

I will be accepting 10 players, and the deadline will be on February the 3rd!

Biography:

Hailing from the distant homeland of the Seafolk, Soggyshanks cast off his family ties and woodcutting work to become a cutter of men. Ending up following a charismatic madman into the new world on a fateful trip in search of riches, land, and honor.

He was a little traumatized before he even arrived in the new world, having experienced too many close calls, heard too many cries for help, and seen too many wrecks to be fully comfortable on a ship. It didn't help that he earned the nickname 'Soggyshanks' after desperately trying to swim to shore.

He was still determined to make his mark on this new world, and found new purpose as one of ‘Mad Eye’s’ men. He fought in one bloody conflict after another for the next two years, bolstering the reputation of his company and leader but seemingly unable to earn any glory for himself. When Mad Eye was cut down by a savage band of marauders, Shoggyshanks decided to earn riches on his own terms, so that *his* name would be remembered throughout the land.

His travels eventually took him to Scholar’s Redoubt, where a scholar sought him out. The man offered him coin in exchange for stories of his old home, information about Seafolk culture, and Soggyshanks' own thoughts on the 'known world.' While he wasn’t entirely sure what the scholars expected to gain from this exchange, he was more than happy to get paid for telling his stories, at least until he finds better work.

Backstory: Sting was never the cleverest of her band. Nor the most skilled. Not even the most stable. She was a total klutz. Everyone knew that. She was, however, the most enthusiastic. The most adventurous. And the most reckless.

Amongst all the younglings of her generation, she was, by far, the most troublesome. Always finding new ways to sneak into the hunts, while she only barely knew how to swing a sword. Hunts against frogs and cats and other huge creatures. It quickly became apparent that she was over-eager to prove herself and earn her post-hunt name.

It's simply a testament to the skill of older and more experienced hunters that she was saved from the consequences of her own scheming. However, it was quickly made apparent that unless something were to be done, she would not be able to learn from the consequences of her actions and, in fact, may inspire other younglings to take up similar actions in foolhardy attempts to 'prove' themselves.

Letting her actually join a hunt was out of the question. That was tantamount to a reward, not a punishment for her reckless behaviour. Then, word came of the organisation of a new expedition from the Redoubt to the University. That was perfect for the leaders of her band. It would remove Sting from being their problem and provide the called for contribution from the band.

All Sting ever thought of it was that it was going to be so much fun. Finally, she was going to get the adventure she was clamouring for...

Backstory:

Among the many unremembered victims of the Marauders at their height was a small, isolated nomad party. Among the this group, there was only one survivor: a spider, Hunter-of-Worms. This spider wandered the wilderness on his own for nearly a week before being rescued by a passing fly company, which he quickly swore allegiance to. Now Company-Guard, this spider fell in love with one of the traders, Canny Bargain, and little less than two years later, they had their first daughter, with her father’s eyes and her mother’s sharp mind.

The girl had a knack for keeping track of many things in her head at once, as well as a strong memory. She was gifted in both magic and merchantry. And yet, neither truly captivated her as much as her father’s stories. Life, death, love, hope, the bug condition in its entirety. The lives and times of those Company-Guard had hated and loved and lost.

One day, about four years ago, Company-Guard was wounded severely by some especially desperate marauders, nearly losing his life. One of the mercenary guards, Swift Swordhand, wasn’t as lucky. Witnessing the raid, Company-Guard’s daughter realized that when her father did die, all of the lives he carried in his memory would be lost forever. Unwilling to let this happen, she committed what she and her father could remember to tablets, a process that took over a year and a half. She insisted that as many details as possible be preserved, right down to tally-counts marking what could be gleaned of the times and dates of each anecdote.

Realizing what she could accomplish with this, she also recorded the lives of Swift Swordhand, her mother, and just about everyone in the company who agreed to it. She believed that the memory of a bug was the only part about them that might have a chance at true immortality, and so, to the chagrin of her mother, Life-Recorder packed her things, the tablets she recorded up to that point, and a large supply of paper (a scavenged material that had no durability, but was lightweight and good drawing material), and moved into the Scholar’s University. A few days later, she became an assistant.

Life-Recorder’s spent most of her time since running messages, scribing spell tablets, and retrieving supplies, though she has been lucky enough to assist in one fairly important project. She still tries to fit in time to scribe the lives of those around her, though, and her dream when becoming an esteemed scholar is to dedicate a whole wall corner to murals of those peoples’ lives, and to spread her discipline to those after her.

Unusually, he also takes a double role; he guards the hive, but also takes an active hand in helping cultivate the farming fields. If he's not guarding, he's farming. If he's not farming, he's guarding. The short hours he spends sleeping are generally on guard; he's a light sleeper, and so he wakes at the slightest sound of an attack.

Pinecone was born and named for one of the many, many pinecones that littered the ground. There were many pinecones around the hive, and there were probably many Pinecones as well if Pinecone actually bothered to remember names. This was just the first domino in a series of many life realizations from his upbringing to news of the Banner Tribes attacking the Fields and worrying about if their hive will be attacked next. As a result, Pinecone has taken a near-nihilistic approach to his life. To Pinecone, literally nothing matters except serving the Queen and his hive. He has basically ignored everything else, especially himself. He has no interest in caring for himself or having a social life to the point where he even forgets he has a sister sometimes.

Everything in his life was extremely mundane, but Pinecone loved it anyway. He found pride and joy in every second of his work, but saved no joy for himself. To him, that was just fine. Until that changed one day, where his... supposed sister? Let him know about a big assignment ordered to him by the Queen. Obviously, he could never disagree with the Queen's orders. Without a moment's hesitation or even giving his sister a chance to explain, he took his best wooden armor, his lance, and set off immediately, unaware of the truth behind his sister's mission...

I don't recall mounts being described in the "mandatory lore" (it's definitely mentioned in the nation lore), but coming from someone who's witnessed the design process on the Discord the whole way through, mounts will be whatever small animals can be ridden by 1.5 to 3 inch people, such as rabbits, frogs, and birds.

Oops, yeah. To clarify, other animals didn't change with whatever event disappeared humans and made bugs into bug-people -- so mounts are just what your tiny little people can manage to ride. There are traditions of riding frogs and birds in particular, but squirrels and raccoons and stuff could be other kinds of mounts.

Background:

Born in the Bees’ Fields, Stardust lived mostly a secluded life. Her original name was Dust, however she despised that name. How could her parents name her after something so drab as dust? She had to elevate it to something more fitting for her, figuratively and literally. Thus, her new name Stardust was forged.

Stardust took her new name to heart as ever since she was as she was enamored in all things celestial. However, she was pressured heavily by her fellow bee compatriots to work the fields as she should be useful to the hive. Whether is was through convincing or badgering them enough to cave in, she somehow managed to place herself in their small military forces but under the guise of a light tablet scholar. Being part of the military also had its boons as since there were barely any other scholars, she basically had free reign over their small collection of knowledge and a lot of time to keep to herself. Though, she wished her brother would visit... at least once… maybe... When she wasn’t researching the stars, she was doing the minimal amount of work into light tablets to keep her position. And by minimal, I mean the most she could get away with.

However, within the past year, after drawing and keeping many pictures of the night sky Stardust noticed something quite peculiar. Notably that, over the course of time eventually the placement of stars start to repeat. Using the bright unmoving star as a reference point (Polaris), she has begun to chart the sea of stars. Currently, she’ll need about one to two more months to finish her own chart. If only she had more advanced tools at her disposal other than a high hill top and her eyes. The Bee Fields are quite possibly the worst place for technological advancement other than for their blasted farming.

She had always dreamed of going into the Scholars’ University, The Poets and even the Land of Mystics. Whether she could find new information for her research or archive it for many bug generations to see. However, she soon heard that the annual expedition was looking for new members. Here was the perfect chance to try and get some connections within the Scholar’s University and she wasn’t about to let it slip on by! But she’s no fighter, even knowing how to use a Light Magic tablet and the basics of combat tactics they forced on her, she would be dead in seconds. However, if she had a meat shield of some kind… With a sinister plot in the making, she found her brother and convinced him with honeyed words that doing this would grant him much honor and even more so that this is a very important job! With that out of the way they head to join the party formed by the Council of Leaders. Stardust can already taste the knowledge waiting for her.

Backstory:
Born to a fly laborer and a reclusive red ant scholar on the Driftwood Coast, Faithful Diligence had a rather odd upbringing. Her parents were a rather odd couple, all things given; her mother, Trustworthy Worker,  was a drifter bouncing between the various polities of the known world, while her father, Deacon Earnestness, was formerly of the Scholar's Redoubt, a talented engineer who studied potential applications of magic in engineering, before retiring due to some office politics disillusioning him to the whole mess and causing him to want to get away from the place as far as possible, retiring to the Driftwood Coast. By coincidence, the two met on a building project to expand the harbours of the city of Bigtinfish, named for the giant tin of sardines which the city's founders used and plundered for supplies and the tab of which is erected in the middle of the city, her as a lead foreman on the project and him as its architect. Though their temperaments were the opposite of each other- her being a fiery delinquent, him being a somewhat timid intellectual- they got along famously and married shortly after the project's conclusion. Into this rather odd and quirky marriage was born Faithful Diligence and her sister, who eventually named herself Shiny Knick-Knacks.

Of course, as all good stories tend to begin, tragedy quickly struck. Trustworthy Worker was killed in a work accident when her children were scarcely several months old, old enough to read and to walk but not to understand where their mother had gone. The Deacon, though grieving for her loss, had children to raise and so brought them up the best he could, all the while continuing their quiet lives in Bigtinfish. Faithful Diligence quickly displayed a talent for magic, something her father was happy to teach. She inherited industry from her father, and the wanderlust of her mother, and so she very quickly wondered what her father's homeland had been like, spurred by stories of his projects. Their quiet life continued until the childrens' sixth year of life, by which point they had become hardworking young women. Deacon Earnestness was taken ill; given his age, his remaining family realised he would likely not survive, and began to say their goodbyes, with Diligence taking his loss particularly hard. After his death, the two sisters went their separate ways, no longer attached to the city they had grown up in. Shiny disappeared towards the north, keeping occasional contact with her sister and taking up a trade as a wandering, peddling merchant.

Diligence's talent for magic, however, combined with growing up on the stories of her fathers' past, led her to seek out the Scholar's Redoubt to educate herself there. However, several problems arose; for one, their family had never been well-off, though they had enough to live, and two, she had never been outside of their city. Not to be daunted, she set off for the Redoubt, earning money through doing odd jobs such as busking and singing, hoping to gather herself enough money to support herself through learning from the greatest minds in the known world. When she did arrive, she began to take an interest in how magic worked, specifically the pictographs that defined magic, such as how the effects worked and how different combinations of pictoral elements worked. However, given her lack of academic prestige, her being a relative newcomer, and the fact of her father's self-imposed exile to the Driftwood Coast, did not grant her much in the way of respect in the Scholar's Redoubt, and it is in this unfortunate situation Faithful Diligence found herself scrambling for work, any work, to keep herself afloat while working on her research.

Biography: Born into the Hornet City built near a riverhouse, Waterhurdle, his early life was a simple one in the community. As he grew, he began to take on simple jobs, and saw how Hornet Politics worked. In this manner, he built up a simple group. However, he wasn't quite satisfied with his life. Power alone would never be enough, as the wars kicked off.

However, luck seemed to be on his side, as She-who-raises-up discovered him, and 'Kidnapped' him to the scholar's Redoubt. Hear, he had plenty of knowledge to learn more directly. He was also not the only person She-who-raises-up had picked up, and he made friends with like-minded individuals with ambitions. Some of which were adults, and gave him proper training.

While his new friends had their own ambitions they worked towards, his turned toward building a new kingdom and opening a path across the Flat Earth. For this, he studied what he could, learning much of other cultures, agriculture(what he could) and architecture. This continued for a while.

Then, came the failures of Scholars Redoubt. Some of the children he knew also grew enough to set out, while some new ones were introduced. He acted as an older friend to them, passing on his knowledge and ambitions, even as She-who-raises-up gave them lessons as she did to him such time ago.

Now, it seems that a group is coming to Scholars Redoubt for another project. Having learned of it, he has decided to participate as a new adult, to learn and explore afield. And perhaps to find out what it is that seems to cause these projects to fail, and perhaps why the others have not returned from their journeys yet afterward.

*One thing to note is, well. He has become pretty big for a bug(3.4 inches).* Goldleaf's hobbies include sparring, sleeping outside, and making vegetable and fruit dishes. He also tends to go topless, though She-who-raises-up often gets onto him about it. His armor on his arms is a carapace that spreads from his shoulders to beneath his back's shoulder-blades, with a stretch of skin left uncovered. Goes down to his upper arms to, though not their underside.

Known Bugs:
Hornet City Waterhurdle
Blackbeetle: A black haired, silver-eyed person of dark skin. Was Goldleaf's second in command of their little gang/group as children. Has a lot of carpace over thier body. Would currently be 8.
Scrapper: A wasp girl of indeterminate origin that occasionally clashed with Goldleaf's group back when he lived in the city. Generally known for her quick strikes. Age, 8

Scholars Redoubt
She-who-raises-up, Liphistiidae: One of the only members of her kind in the Bug Kingdom, though this is only of interest to scholars. She is getting up there in the years. Has a habit of collecting interesting bugs and 'Kidnapping' them.(Read as asking the bug in question and receiving permission) She mostly does this to keep the more intereting sub-spicies alive. Had 2 daughters(of age) and 1 son(deceased). 26 years old currently. Kidnapped Goldleaf at 22. Been doing this since 19, and passing own knowledge. Brown hair, mottled spider legs, gold eyes and white skin.

Guardian of Redoubt, Euspinolia militaris: A rare wasp type raised up, specializing in combat. He primal trains those who wish to receive it, and occasionally makes trips afar to nearby ant cities. Black/white hair, black eyes. 16 Years old.

One-who-gazes-up, trax sutherlandi: One of Goldleaf's friends, she's a spider that keeps to her own rhythm and spends her time studying the stars above. Fire-red hair and blue eyes, black-red spider legs, black skin. Currently 9, went on a journey afar to study the stars in other areas 1 year ago.

Blue-silver-white, Lycaedes melissa samuelis: Called Blue for short, a butterfly girl with wings. Extremely skilled in magic, and 10 years old. Went on a journey some time ago to catalog the various magic styles other bugs use.

Giant Sight, Titanus giganteus: 15 years old and one of the giant bugs raised by She-who-raises-up. Skilled in archery and hunting. Went of to the Giant's Forest to try and organize things, but occasionally sends word back. Goldleaf only knows him by rumor.

One-who-waits-patiently, Dryococelus australis: A martial bug of blue hair and red eyes and carapace. Took on a spider name for whatever reason, he looks up to She-who-raises and studies to one day continue her work. Went missing after a Cultivation Project 2 years ago. Would be 10 now. She-who-raises-up still looks for him on her yearly trips.

Various others not named here.

Backstory: Rainstorm's mother was one of the few scorpions who stayed within settled lands, and they've lived in or around Scholar's Redoubt all their life. As they grew older, they found a deep love for natural philosophy, and has spent their years at the Scholars' University studying it. Learning some level of magic is almost unavoidable under such circumstances, but it never really captured Rainstorm's focused attention--they prefer studying the world itself. As a scorpion, they've been the target of discrimination, and has found advancing within the university to be difficult. Still, their undeniable knowledge has given them some amount of respect. But, some of the university elite dislikes having this supposed savage among their ranks--and rising through them; with the arrival of the patrol from Scholar's Redoubt, several insistent voices have ever-so-innocently suggested they take a long sabbatical and join the expedition. Seeing little use in staying in the face of such opposition, and hoping to redeem themselves and the university's good name, they've relented and sought to help with the patrol's mission.

Biography: Mercy Harefoot, usually shortened to Mercy during informal occasions and Footie if you want to get hit, is the child of two red ant medics. Overall he isn’t very stand out as far as medics go, he of course has some talent for magic, and was taught by his parents how to use healing spells. His only real claims to any sort of prestige is his work healing guards after the occasional wild animal wanders a bit to close, which he always accomplished with slightly more speed than usual. In short, a perfect candidate to send along to the Redoubt when you’re feeling a bit pissy with their failings.

Check of Sheets Submitted Thus Far:

1. krim (Ebon Knight):

Your base SPD is one higher than it should be -- this may be minor, but I would like it fixed because I guarantee that I'd forget it later on if I accepted you and then miswrite your initial stats. Otherwise, this is a valid sheet.

2. Yours Truly (Soggyshanks):

YOU DIDN'T PUT THE PARENTHESES ON THE ADDED STATSSSSSSSS nah lol this is a valid sheet.

3. ctsun (Sting):

This is a valid sheet.

4. Lotus (Raindrop Valkyrie):

You should choose the starting weapon you'd have if accepted, but this is a valid sheet.

5. Life-Recorder (Unlurking Sentinel):

This is a valid sheet.

6. RedMageCole (Pinecone):

This is a valid sheet.

7. EXLink32 (Stardust):

This is a valid sheet.

8. ElfCollaborator (Faithful Diligence):

This would in fact appear to be a sheet of the valid variety.

9. TricMagic (Goldleaf):

This is a valid sheet, although I'll note that the preferred stats and weapon proficiencies aren't typically expected to be laid out through promotions, as it can become cluttered.

10. Lady Stardust (Rainstorm):

I'm not sure I like the promo PS, but that's not something to worry about right now. For a more current issue, though, I would prefer that the added bonus stat points not be added into the base totals, which means that MAG and DEF should be one point lower.

11. kj1225 (Mercy Harefoot):

This is a valid sheet.

Biography: An adolescent moth from the Tin Cities, who left their seclusion. She is clad in long strips of fabric in a cloak, hung with charms, and a pale white mask, marked with red lines. While she is tall and lanky, her mask giving her a ominous appearance to some - she is, in truth, deeply cowardly and horrendously frightened of all manner of large beasts.

She was born, as previously mentioned, in the Tin City, as the third child to a pair of slightly-overprotective parents, two moths employed as clerks and scholars to the local magistrate. She was always a nervous child, and indeed entered the secluding part of her adolescence perhaps earlier than necessary. She remained there for a long while, before one day - she clad herself in mask and robe, and escaped. While her parents would no doubt love to bring her back, she hasn't left a note behind saying where she was going, or indeed why - only that'd she'd return. Her two siblings, elder brothers both, have left to search for their wayward younger sister.

It's deeply frowned upon for moths to leave home during their adolescent years, and the mask is an attempt, perhaps to mollify them a little. At the Scholar's redoubt, she's mainly secluded herself in her room as she studies dark magic and (begrudgingly) assists with the actual scholars in their work. Why, precisely, she's left home and come to the Redoubt, she's kept to herself for the time being.

I know that everybody says this, but there really were sheets that I was sad got cut off by the deadline/that I had really intended to pick but just couldn't find the space for... but I really don't want to take on extra people, I'm afraid, since I want to be conscious of my workload. I do apologize to everyone that I couldn't put into the game.

I'll be sending out PMs with the Affinity choices, pretty much because I thought it was cool when it was done in Scarlet Crown.
