Let's try this again.

Welcome back to Smalltown City, the best stain on this Earth since the invention of sliced bread. Strange figures of Red and Blue have crawled out of their holes, seeking to bring retribution to their unjustly fallen precedents. Will the Town's justice prevail again, or will our new friends bring new order to Smalltown City? Let's find out together,  shall we?

What is Mafia?

Mafia is a social deduction game which requires analyzing, cooperation, and looking through lies. There are two main factions in a mafia game: the Uninformed Majority [Town], who have to find others of their kind while hunting for the mafia, and the Informed Minority [Mafia], who have a private chat and plan there on how they should trick the town and whom they should kill.

At the beginning of the game, players receive a PM or a DM (in some cases) with their role and alignment.

There are two major phases in a Mafia game:

(1) The Day Phase – Typically lasting 48 hours , players use this opportunity to discuss about several things, which may include the outcome of the previous phases, behavior of players, and flow of the game; the ultimate goal in the day phase is for the Town players to find the Mafia slowly while Mafia players have to blend in carefully. Before the day ends, players must vote for a player whom they want to be eliminated on grounds of suspicion and the player receiving the most votes will be eliminated. (Or in this case, executed.)

(2) The Night Phase – Typically lasting 24 hours, the thread is considered “locked” at this point and players may not comment at all. Instead, players with night actions, special abilities related to their role, may use these to aid their faction. The Mafia also discusses in the private chat on whom to dispose of.

The game continues until one of the major factions attains their win condition or unless it is no longer possible.

General Rules

(1) The Reborn Forum rules apply here.

(2) All Player Discussion must be kept in the thread; mandated special private chats may also be utilized. Other forms of contact outside of these such as Private Chats without the Host’s permission, IRL contact, and other methods are not allowed.

(3) Day Phase lasts for 48 hours. Players must make at least 2 posts and vote per day phase. Failure to meet this requirement for two day phases (even non consecutive) will result in replacement or mod intervention.

(4) Voting is done in the format: [Execute] Player Name or in similar formats. Changing of votes may be done in this format: [Unvote] Player Name. All votes must be placed in bold or they are not counted. In the case of a tie in votes, both persons will be lynched.

(5) Night Phase lasts for 24 hours. Players are not allowed to comment in the thread. Violation of this rule will result in warning (1st offence) and disqualification (2nd offence).

(6) Sharing of Role PMs – through screenshots, verbatim copying, or other forms – to other players is illegal. Consequences will be given to violators.

(7) Actions – day or night – should be sent to me via PM (Forums) or DM (Discord).

(8) Editing of posts is discouraged. If you have minor corrections, you may do so, but if you wish to have additions, you must make a new post or quote your previous post if you wish to highlight the addition.

(9) Respect the host and other players!

(10) Have fun or else.

Special Rules

Spoiler

In Cult Wars, there are 2 Mafia-esque groups called The Cults. Each Cult will try to recruit other players to increase their numbers while trying to destroy the opposing Cult. The Town is trying to kill off both Cults.

Recruitment rules are covered under Cult Leader.

Each Cult starts the game with the same 3 roles (Watcher, Spy, Leader). Both Cults act at the same time at Night.

There are no Third (Fourth?) Parties. Only 2 Cults and the Town.

Win Conditions:

  • Town wins when both Cults are destroyed.

  • Cults have 2 requirements to win. First, they must destroy the opposing Cult. Second, they must make up at least 50% of the remaining living players.

Roles

Spoiler

Cult Leader (x2)

I am His voice. My children, His hands. Together, we are His embrace.

- When you die, everyone in your Cult dies (unless you have an Apprentice).

- Once per Night, you may do one of the following actions:

  • Visit another player and Recruit them. This fails if they are from the opposing Cult, or if both Leaders try to Recruit the same person.
    • Recruiting a player removes their Role and makes them a Vanilla Cultist.
  • Promote one of your fellow Cultists into either an Assassin or an Apprentice. You can only have one of each of these at a time.

Cult Assassin

My god has deemed you worthy enough to die for Him. Be grateful.

- This role does not appear in setup. It can only be created by the Cult Leader.

- Visit a player and kill them. You cannot attack the same phase you are promoted.

Cult Apprentice

I will not let His teachings go to waste. The heretics will be believers soon enough.

- This role does not appear in setup. It can only be created by the Cult Leader.

- When the Cult Leader dies, you become the new Cult Leader.

Cult Watcher (x2)

I am His eyes. I see as He does.

- You may visit a player and learn who visited them this night, and in which order.

Cult Spy (x2)

I am His ears. Every soul whispers its secrets aloud. I listen.

- Visit a player and learn their role.

Cop

Name, licence, credit card number, and social security please.

- Visit a player and learn their role.

Vigilante

Muckle darmed cultists! 'Ere ye namblies keepin' me wee men?

- Visit a player and kill them.

Mayor

Not in MY town. I bought it fair and square!

- Your vote counts as 2. If there is a tie in votes, you can decide the outcome (including neither or both)

Doctor

You signed the wavers, yes? No? Doesn't matter.

- Visit a player and protect them from death that Night. You can protect yourself.

Celebrity

Love me, hate me, all that matters is that everybody knows me.

- Everyone knows you are the Celebrity at the start of the game.

- If you are converted, it is not made public. If you are investigated, they will know if you've been converted or not.

Mason

Don't mind me, just laying bricks and uncovering cult conspiracies.

- Visit a player and protect them from being converted.

- If you visit a Cultist, they are roleblocked instead. You are not informed of this.

Drunk

Heeeeey, yer wunna dem... hurk... culdist, ain'tcha?

- Visit a player and roleblock them.

Granny

Aw, hello, little Jimmy! Did you come to give your grandma a hug?

- Kill anyone that visits you at Night.

- You cannot be converted. You can be killed.

Dreamer

I just had the weirdest dream. Something to do with a whale and a bowl of petunias.

- At the start of each Day, you receive a dream of 3 random players. At least one of them is a Cultist.

- Fails if you were visited the Night before.

Lovers (x2)

As long as we're together, nothing can stop us!

- Visit a player each Night, looking for the other Lover. When either Lover visits the other, they form a private chat and stop visiting.

- Once they've found each other, they are immune to being converted. If either dies, the other dies.

Trapper

They'll never see it coming!

- Place a Trap on any player each Night. The next person to visit that player tonight gets killed.

Role Priority:

- Drunk / Mason / Trapper

- Cult Spy / Cop / Doctor

- Cult Assassin / Vigilante

- Lovers

- Cult Leader

- Cult Watcher
