RedAlert
Hey guys! I used to be around here a lot more often. For those of you who don't know me at all, here's some of my content: Dark Monotype (STATUS: CANCELLED | BADGES: 1) Reborn Nuzlocke (STATUS: LOST | BADGES: 0) - press f to pay respecc Grass Monotype (STATUS: CANCELLED | BADGES: 9) Reborn E16 (STATUS: CANCELLED | BADGES: 14)Reborn E17 --> now E18 (STATUS: ONGOING | BADGES: 12) Rejuvenation V10 (STATUS: ONGOING | BADGES: 12) Might put that up in my signature soon. Now that you know a little more about me, it's time for the present. I recently have a liitle bit more time - I quit my job in order to pursue higher interests (which I'm pursuing, but I'd like to use the free time for some Pokeymans). So I've been doing some thinking, and thought of doing a Rejuvenation playthrough for the hell of it. Just so I can make it somewhat more interesting, I've decided to play it in Intense Mode. About this run, I've never been one to contemplate on the story much, because I've always considered it a Pokemon game and play it like a Pokemon game. There are little baddies on the way and in the end you beat up the big baddie. I was more about the Pokemon battles than the story. Therefore, I thought I would be able to critique it better if I did a live run on it so that I'd have more time to reflect on the dialogue and pay attention to the background so I'd become more observant in the future. (and of course, it's hella fun) thx - - - - - - - 0: A prologue of sorts Spoiler Let's dive right in! So I'm guessing that's Melia and Venam? I never noticed they had similar outfits... and who dis? I really love the cover art, so colorful and vibrant! No Sorry, I can't stand this sequence. Even when I played it the first time, the story is dumb. First off, it does not make sense to me that a Zorua and Pangoro are evenly matched. Given Pangoro's 4x resistance to Zorua and Zorua's terrible learnset pre-evolution, I can't for the life of me figure out how it isn't one-shotted immediately. Secondly, this story doesn't serve any purpose at all. Why does Maria, a young girl want a story so full of negativity read to her when she goes to bed? It may be a tie-in to something I didn't notice, but I still can't believe this is a childhood bedtime story. It makes no sense. This is our placebo protagonist. The idea that this game starts off with this character makes it apparent that she's a central figure to the story. Nice touch, leaving the book in the same room after it was read to her the previous night. Thereby explaining to us: Maria is a child prodigy. Really love the cinematic effect they got for V10. Very classy. What are the red things on her mother's face? It's not on this picture, for instance. Which is gorgeous btw. Really have to give the creators credit where its due. ... so I guess we're not going to find out when now. Meaning, it's also a pivotal point. So the game is really really prone to giving clues. Some blatantly obvious, others much more subtle. A child prodigy not being able to understand certain books when she had mastered Advanced Calculus means there's something going on. At least that's what the game is implying, in my opinion. Another tidbit for us to munch on. Considering Kugearan City is being built, it doesn't make sense that it looks familiar. Something to keep in mind. Only when she lets her? Ha, what a good kid. So just another ordinary day in the life of a child prodigy. She doesn't want Advanced Calculus, she just wants to have some fun! No, because noooooo one is curious at all. A secret basement holding books with frightening pictures and an altar. Clearly a very normal household. I still don't get why this whole place is hidden in plain sight. So if it isn't already obvious, there's something very fishy about this dude right here. Classic good-guy-at-the-exterior-yet-hiding-so-much-underneath-bad-guy-act. Such a cheery, happy, peaceful household. It's the perfect setting for disaster. And there's a familiar face. (Is it okay for me to reveal things in the future to connect the dots right now?) So this goes along nicely with why the name Kugearan was familiar to little Maria... there is a possibility that time travel is a recurring theme here. So who are you talking to? It becomes apparent here that this new person right here is an observer of some kind... she has seen this drama unfold before and is about to witness it again... with some end goal in sight which we don't know of. It also is certain that she cares for this girl and may be in fact, on the lighter end of the spectrum. So heading back to the secret dungeon... Not surprising at all. Considering the way he said your father, it could be that this person has a split personality or something. ... And we've warped somewhere else. and whoah, the Zorua and Pangoro again. So is this a physical manifestation of Maria's thoughts or something? Honestly, I feel like the creators tried way too hard to make a several layered story, it's confusing beyond belief. I'd like to know. Changing names... an impassive, unreadable father... strange people knowing our names... strange people calling us someone else... garufan charms... all in the first 10 minutes. Exhausting. Can't fool 'dem maids/nurses with sideway vision and all. So there's a number for this. A finite amount of sacrifices for some great power of some sort... seems to be the generic overall plotpoint so I'll stick with that. Oh, but look, a trainer card! Looks like she does have Pokemon. And a buttload of money for a kid. Oh gross, beastiality too? ... assuming "our lord" is Arceus like in your book collection? I'd like to know what that means. I wonder if we can access these thoughts later via Garufan literature. Ah well, that's for another day. Jesus... Looks like there's some sort of prophecy in this particular universe. So is this one of those end-of-the-world cults? The one that claims they're saving humanity by killing them off for the "greater good"? To a little girl now? This game is so dark and gritty... even with Reborn considered. And all I wanted to was to kill monsters repeatedly... Ah, finally! Gonna go with Intense like I said. Too many screens for more though. - - - - - - - I'm just so excited to do an Intense run of this, especially since I find Rejuvenation hard even in casual mode. But I think it's fairy doable with some strategy and planning and I'm up for the challenge. Hopefully I have your support to see the end of this run 1
Lspaceship
I look forward to reading this as it progresses. This should help hold off the boredom that comes with the holiday season and the break that the Derogatory Trainer has taken.
Commander
Someone else doing a run of Rejuv and this time doing the Intense mode: As for tips and tricks, don't be afraid to talk about future plot points that you know of but put them in spoilers if you want to make sure not to spoil people who haven't played the game yet. I kind of glazed over the intro in my own run as I didn't expect many people to be interested or even at all as I wanted to cut corners as much as possible to get to a leader every 2-3 chapters...I say as I haven't even reached number 9 at chapter 40. Just do the run however you like though and eventually you'll figure out what works for you. As for the fairy tale, I'm pretty sure it's an old folklore told in Garufan times given the importance of the two Pokemon in their shrines including a Zorua hidden in one. I'm not sure how important the story actually is or if it was a historical event but it likely was something similar to Welsh mythology given how Loki is quite the trickster. There is a character who uses a Zorua and one who uses a Pangoro but that more likely is a coincidence over anything and not symbolism. I'd have to reread the story to see what actually happens to remember it all. This has been a pointless analysis with Commander. Just ping me if you ever want to test my memory on stuff and what it could be foreshadowing if it hasn't happened already.

You gotta change something if you intend to copy, otherwise you'll look cheap. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Yeah that's what I'm planning to do. The future plot points you talk about will be the really obvious ones anyways. If not I'll put them in a spoiler (double spoiler, since I already put my entire post in a spoiler) I'll go through the major dialogue completely, while others not so relevant will be skipped through. Interesting part about the Zorua. I'm very interested to know what that's about, in case of any potential tie-ins with the actual story. Please let me know if/when you remember it. - - - - - - - 1: Not so rejuvenating Spoiler That is one very pretty lady, Moving ahead... Why of course! So for reasons obvious, and to make my character sprite a little more distinguishable, I'm gonna go with this one: Ayy, looks like the sprite from the HGSS series... It's the perfect backstory for a silent protag. Must you even ask? I am the valiant and invincible. Thank you! Bye bye, beautiful! I really like this lady. Willing to give us a free Pokemon and also believes we will do great things. ... Basically. Yay. More things to do Life is never that simple, bro At least definitely not in these games. And especially not in this run. Good for you, my man! Always follow your dreams. I'm a firm believer of that philosophy. Yeah, I'm even documenting a run about it. ... Guess that really isn't a thing... Still need to verify it, mom. Do you know where Gearen Immigration is? Oh she can't hear me I forgot What about 'em? Oh that's pretty neat. A feast on a cruise... Pokemon trainers really have the most unconventional lives... Ah, I have a feeling he's gonna be one of the elite. Or at least very high up. Doubt it. Played this game twice already. You'd think I'd be traumatized at this point. What has been difficult? There are some unresolved issues here... So you're okay with me meeting strangers now? Righto, mother. So I guess we're free to ourselves for a bit. First rule of Red: Talk to everybody. I know... work sucks, doesn't it? To each his/her own, madam. Wise choice. I have a reputation for being aggressive. LOL IF ONLY I COULD REPRESENT IT INGAME Why is it all sparkly? Since when does a Pokemon game believe in morals? Ah, here's a new one. All this is very cryptic talk... things to be kept in mind for later. Again very cryptic. What we can gather here is our mother is part of something that we know nothing about... well atleast the one sitting in front of the laptop, that is. My god, that sounds like an order. And the fact she complies with it easily shows her position on it as well. What a strange thing to say. I have never met you before, person. Again something to keep in mind. All this parallel information floating by you, it's no wonder I can't keep up with the story. Documentation really helps. Considering the way she talks to our supposed mother, I have a feeling that "our mother" is a stand-in guardian designed to watch over us for some reason Crescent can't. Meaning Crescent is a possible guardian of ours..? Sounds like a very important banquet. Is there more reason to it than what meets the eye? Interesting dialogue that happened here. Informative in some way, enough to tell you that there's something going on. Moving on... And you chose a luxury liner. How very economical of you. I mean, how did it even come to being? What privileged assholes. And cocky motherfuckers as well. "Oh look at me the world better watch out here I come" ... Not to say that I'm not doing the same thing... ... oh well. Sounds like a very powerful family. That sounds like a great idea fellas! Where would man be without burglary? Looks like every group has a moral compass. Or not. ... Heading back up... I know what you mean, PianoLady. I'm an artist too. I paint with words. *puts on sunglasses* What a view. I love how the lower floors are blurred out to create that effect. Nah, just masochistic. Fucking Paul. That was actually funny the first time I played. Finally someone who appreciates what he/she has! I would be disappointed if not. Have you not heard the theme song? I would not know, but maybe? Huh. We really look a lot alike. Perhaps I'm not so special after all... Oh, that's really sweet, especially at the start of the game. I hope you see her soon Nice, I guess Sup. Oh you're mom's friendo How do you do, sir? I find it quite pleasant, but I should warn you that there are some folks planning to steal your cash... Oh he pretends I don't exist too. Huh? I think I skipped some dialogue as well. How does that feel? Well, there's a useless mystery solved. By beating the gym leaders? You've basically narrowed it down to cause and effect, old boi. THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME USELESS INFORMATION AGAIN Even the preluding important part was given to us by the receptionist. Indeed it was. Music to my ears. I can't wait to see PianoLady play for me again. Food-wise, yes. Head back below... This is a sequence I missed... Well, I knew it wouldn't be too long before things got destructive. Some evil conspiracy rigmarole. Well what would Pokemon games be without the drama? I get it, game. The message is clear. Since when do Pokemon games let the user be of any use anyways? "Ooh, because we just have ordinary sprites" Anyways... Ah, one of the only things we can control. The timing of events. Let's use it to our advantage. And there's a dialogue change to be done that is overlooked. We already went throw this. So I've been told. When will you people have actual information for me? Sweet as always. Don't we already know her name by now? I guess the game just assumes we didn't see that sequence and doesn't want to spoil us... I guess so. Not much to do around here tbh. How imposing and magnanimous What a nice way to start this game! ... This game is literally me saying "I spoke way too soon..." And i'm guessing that last word is "party" Did he just move backwards? Fucking coward. Isn't he like an elite trainer? You'd think they'd have more security for a ship. ... Well, kidnapping is technically better since it's only one person, I guess. ... and cut to us being transported out by Gothitelle. This is kind of an improvement. I like this color. HELLO IDK Damn straight. Who dis "some guy"? We die? I'm so used to this game stating the obvious. They look like Deoxys. Deoxys don't exactly sound harmless to me. This lady is too good to be true in this game. And she's barely in it. Major complaint. Sigh... obstacles... Hello, useless grampops. Yes. PRIORITIES. I should have known better. Will you ever have something for me? I may have spoken too soon. MOTHER!!! Bravo, ma'am. You are SHARP. JESUS "harmless" they said That was very well done. It genuinely surprised me the first time. I'd say. Move boi OH NOW YOU CAN HEAR ME EH Only when it's convenient Wow. There are multiple Deoxys. Guess we have access here now Oh that animation is lovely! Oh there you are, mother. Guess you're prepared for extreme measures. Sylveon is a really good Pokemon... Ah, what a pleasant cry Cue music to cut dramatic moment. Wow. Gotta admit that that's pretty fucking cool. Kidnapping, if I recall. "Comfortable sharing"? Since when are terrorists such pansies? Exactly. Why make noise in the first place? This is honestly the most stupid thing I've heard. Especially if their purpose is to kidnap. But it's not surprising considering how passive this entire region is. What did Augustus do anyway, being the legendary trainer he is. Back to the game. So you want to be noticed while performing a kidnapping... That's new. Oh, really nice music there! I really feel like she's going to make a great sacrifice. There it is M-mom That's really huge in just a couple minutes. Holy damn this part is gruesome I really really do I can't believe you killed two Deoxys to save someone You're gonna go down in history, lady Well that was a sad sequence of events I can't believe so many people are dedicated to saving my life already Away from here. This was a lot more confusing the first time. I feel like Rejuvenation should introduce the bubble type dialogue box because of its many characters. Anyways, I missed a screen here since Talonflame was too fast for me, unsurprisingly. HA! Says every villain ever when they know they fucked up. - - - - - - How good it is to be on land again! Hello, Talonflame. That's hell of a sub. Oh I adore that red hair... She says it like it's a minor inconvenience LOL "It sucks... the boat just sank" How would you know? For all she could just be sunk along with the ship! Well, I'm new to this place, so... I would assume so. The endless stream of monologue is pretty funny tbh Again, the lightheartedness of the situation is apalling. Yup, all alone. (Why does she have to rub it in my face?) Looks like the reasonable choice after I bawl my eyes out I just got separated from my mother, goodness Well there's our silver lining. To Gearen Laboratory it is. That is pretty cool, woman. Red. She heard me! I like her already. So reminder to y'all... use Tailwind if you want to fly anywhere you please, even against the course of the wind. Oh man... Dang this place. Well it's about time we got going. This beginning sequence has sucked my life dry. Hullo. No. Here's my trainer card tho. Been there done that Thank you Well yes I am, pretty lady from the screen. My ship blew up. Big time. Gimme my pokes already. Thank you! ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod Does anyone not have anything else to talk about? Wasn't bad enough that I had to deal with it, I have to constantly listen to it as well.... Finally oh yeah, Cynthia. She was hard. ok i just liked your hair... There's a familiar face... All in due time. And the purple haired dude running up to her looks like our creator has turned up. yo, dude That is such a bad way to lie, Amanda. And that bit with [sp]Flora and Jenkel[/sp] is quite well done. Names to be kept in mind... And finally we meet the boi. I'm still curious about this Amanda lady and her involvement in this whole show. ... moving past the awkward sibling love.... Well that sounds wonderful! Time to finally get this game going MOVE, WOMAN. I actually thought we had walked into a skype sex chat the first time I played. It's one suspicious person after the other... GIVE ME MY POKEMON. Better. life...? Suspicious is what comes to my mind, but whatever floats your boat, I suppose. If he gives me Pokemon he can skype sex all the redheads he wants. except me of course So I don't know why I felt the need to mention that. Anyways Oh? We're in America now? Moving on... Bulbasaur seems like a nice viable choice. Kind of underused too. But there's one I've been meaning to try out for a bit... Attaboy! I've never used a Popplio before because I never got to play Gen 7 officially. I've always wanted to try it for a change, especially since it's got a very interesting typing. I think it will serve as a pretty solid choice for an Intense run of Rejuvenation because it has great special stats and an interesting moveset accompanying it. Not too OP but enough so that the game is still challenging. Now what do I call a sea lion? Who said I gotta follow rules? I should take care not to make any more of my Pokemon's names Red-based... Oh, those are lovely stats. So it's time! He's not yours to please! But I can't wait to battle you. And our first battle. Water Gun at the very beginning? That is so OP Very OP Even tho Litten's faster. Having STAB moves at the beginning is HAX. I don't really like it but oh well. I don't think either of us ever used that move. Plus I had Water Gun at the start anyways. And that happened, before Jenner takes over. Why does the game assume I know his name though? Well why did he think it so important to interrupt then Time to beat his ass. You have a Pokemon literally at Lvl 5 man That's all it took. Beginner. Two stab moves already. Sweet. Fosho man And then the explanation to going to help her out. Yes I understand, old man. I think it's time to start cutting down screens, saves so much space. Does he suddenly feel a lot more menacing? Maybe it's just me Alright, time to dominate the outdoors and conquer it all! Whoops wandered a bit too far! If you can't even get a screen in that says something about your battling abilities. I need more Pokemon. Nice. Like the comics? You could call him Jerry for short. Nothing very distressing really. I guess it won't really be intense until we reach the boss battles. So much diss, right off the bat. Fair enough though Breezing through the Violet and Emerald buildings now... I already love him. Let's go to the other side of town. Ain't nothing cute about this rat It's a killing machine Aww Don't say that. Ahahahaha that's a good one rip tho Bikes are overrated, fite me Time for some new pokes tho, I only have two Looks about right. I haven't used one of these before, although Simipour was really useful to me in Black... You mine. Isn't that apt. Also an addition to our assortment of beasts. I think my friend had a cat named one if I'm not wrong... I will come back here, good sir. Now for the remaining free Pokemon I can get. Now we can't do that to a person... 'Bout time you rolled right in, boi Sonicboom + Aftermath is gonna be good How is she still a resident here then? Good god what is it with the law being of no use absolutely whatsoever here? It's really her that went too far, isn't it. Privileged punks. Of course, interruptions. Not really a huge problem, though. Sonicboom is pretty freaking powerful early on. Neither are you, mon frere. Sigh... that's what I'm here for. To move the plot along. Oh I just watched your movie. Tom Hardy was in it. ... Not funny? Funnier than that at least. What a horrible, deceitful lifestyle. Are these people going to be my friends? Yikes. I predict too well. Even the first time. Well why am I not surprised Just a couple of dudes hanging out at the sewers What a great place to chill Just another day I'll just grab this... One day these will be useful. I don't like the name. Yes, I really need a place to stay. I thought we were 18+ years old? That part is to be resolved, I see. I feel like we haven't been hurt enough. Hey hey, watch it. I don't know why the people of Aevium are so prone to being so violent and aggressive. And so mean for no reason. Chill out, yo. Seriously, chill the fuck out. Now that I take offense at. Another current "mystery" for us The game really wants to show me that she's rich. I get it, yo ... I feel she's so woke she doesn't get herself Right after he called me a hooligan, too... Good god, these guys need to smoke a blunt I guess we can purchase a room later on? That'd be pretty neat. The girl with the helicopter. Course. No no, better than inconveniencing a girl with a helicopter. Time for some additions. Probably can't flutter now but it will Nice EV spread as well Anyways... That's just... Agh So conflicting I think not. I'm gonna trade it off anyway, so why? Oh fuck, male? No worries, I think I'll need a Cherrim for later. That's the second Pokemon I'm boxing already, Sure am stocking on Pokemon. And in return I get I feel like I give better nicknames already "Bun" to a Buneary sounds super creative I love you Nurse Joy, for making life so easy Time to polish up my team a bit. Just wrecking faces in. Broccoli needs some levels. Can't really call these "battles" SKIP All of Venam's jokes are trash anyway So I guess I follow you in for now and worry about that part later. He's really proud of it, isn't he I guess a lot of people really love this place for some reason. Well I'm not new to battling, which the same can't be said for you That sounded genuinely nice but also like a real diss. I'll always be thinking of this. Thanks, Jan. Interesting. I wonder if it serves any purpose though. Well that was too quick for my liking. Ren's Murkrow is actually pretty helpful. Finally some more STAB moves Can't wait till these guys get some more firepower. Vitamins and minerals. Time for Flutter to get some exp. Huh, neat. A guy selling chinese food in the sewers. I don;t think I need to say any further. Of course. Pokemon games are a never ending obstacle course. I guess that's the logical choice. Anyways This happened Should be pretty useful hereon She also learned Gust. Wasn't that quick. She learnt Confusion as well. Well, back to generator fixing now. I know I did. It was the easiest thing. Anyways time to meet the secondary (almost primary) protagonist of the game. "who attracts shinies" also this makes no sense but anyways to the crux of the issue Damn That thing is pretty adorable That entire sequence was beautifully animated. Got to give mega props for that. The setup for this whole thing is hilarious and I love it. Trubbish sets up with Poison Gas, poisoning both Balls and Murkrow. Sonicboom takes it out. One Sludge from Trubbish puts Balls in red. I bring in Flutter in hops of redemption. Combined Sludges from Trubbish and Garbador cause Flutter to fall. Geronimo is up next. My target is to finish Trubbish first and then move on to the Garbador. That was a pleasant turn of events. One Bite caused Trubbish to faint. SLudge puts down Geronimo in the next round. I bring in Bun. Lick manages to paralyze Garbador while Bun manages to tank a Pound. I bring in Rudolph after Bun gets in a Quick Attack in. And that's a wrap. And looks like Venam got herself a Trubbish, offscreen. Isn't that great information. Why even let us battle then? 100% sure it'll be some "I wanted to observe" copout bullshit So Melia tells us the reason for our safety is because of her father giving her a briefcase. And entering a code would save us. Isn't that perfect to be told after we do our work? Anyways... I guess that's all that matters for now. This was quite exhausting tbh. Who knew the sewers could be so unpleasant? - - - - - - - Thanks for reading!
Lspaceship
May I say something? That was a LONG thing, and I'm not sure that they should be that long. Whatever tho, as we get into my least favourite stretch, the tutorials. I would enjoy them more, perhaps, if there wasn't so many of them. The beginning is always the worst part, to me, as you don't have any 'mons you can rely on to take you through grinding via switch training or EXP Share/All. Dex
Oh man Intense Mode, I gotta say not the best Christmas Gift a person can give themselves. But hey more power to you if you can make it through, I'm having enough trouble as it is on Normal Mode. You even chose the same trainer sprite as me which is pretty cool. Different Starter though.( I chose Turtwig, just so I could have a mon that natural learns Earthquake. Worth it), all I can say is good luck man.

Hahah, it only feels that way probably because it's the opening sequence. That being said, I probably did overdo the length on this one. Just trying to adjust. But some challenges are just fun to do I'll have audience support for that extra nakama boost. Torterra is a good Pokemon though. Watch out for them Ice moves tho. 4x type disadvantage isn't great. - - - - - - - 2: Misfortune Spoiler So last time, we went through the sewers and fought a mutated Garbador. I have to say that I found that part of the game pretty interesting. It isn't tedious, long and boring like most other opening training regime sequences in other games. It's short, we have Ren healing our Pokemon and actually being of major use. Also, it tells us what we have to know for plot purposes - Melia is a special snowflake and everybody loves her. And she has a briefcase. Huh, I didn't figure Ren to be bookish. Well go ahead. It's time we met up with Melia in Goldenwood forest anyway and see what the whole fuss is all about anyways. But before that, I think I'll get some levels up. It is Intense Mode, after all. Starting with the simple ones... I really wish I could get a Starly... It's so so good. Well, there's an alternative. Unlike Reborn, Rejuvenation has a habit of throwing in the occasional very good Pokemon at the beginning. However, Fletchling isn't really that great until it becomes Talonflame, and even then, getting the moveset I want is gonna take ages. It is pretty overused too, at this point. .... What an asshole. Say something now, bitch. That's how you take care of things, kids. Slavery. Yeah, you took great care of that didn't you? I'm INTENSE baby And we're introduced to this nutcase.. Guess she doesn't need an introduction. Back to the help center... Will nobody help me with my own missing mother? How come no one cares about my problems? I should be able to make my own requests. ... I'm gonna skip this as well, but I will comment on this part since it may be relevant to the plot someday: It looks like the mayor would not like it if she found it someone was helping the children... or getting free haircuts, which is surprisingly specific. And considering that Sasha finds this place familiar, it could be that she was brought up here. Another something to keep in mind. ... On to the ones that are actually interesting! "A strange Pokemon, but I don't know what it is! Help me!" Honestly, if you even have the time to fill out a help request, a little more detail wouldn't hurt. Who even qualifies and sends these in? Anyways who are we to resist a challenge? Oh it's the gang version like in Reborn. No. I refuse to acknowledge a baby Litleo that makes any noise other than a cute whimper. Ah, there's the catch! I wonder if it's as good as the Arcanine in the previous version. Thankfully there's that sweet rain that should allow Rudy to shine in this environment. Fucking crits. Break the game so much. And Balls was doing so well too. So I missed a screen here, but Pyroar is next. The whopping level difference plus the evolution ensures it's a lot faster and stronger than the Litleos. But here is where I must point out that this is where I genuinely develop a distaste for this game. All it does is to makes things difficult is by just giving it increased levels. It's just lazy writing. Just hits harder and is faster and stronger due to increased levels. Why are they giving us limitations if they can't subject to the same? Even while playing Reborn, we faced Scrafty that was at Level 18. The only time anyone I recall doing anything similar with Reborn was with Solaris and/or other supposedly unsurmountable obstacles. (of course, there are instances like the Steelix but I can't nitpick all of 'em) I know most people would probably say "It's because of the story. You can't limit the environment." But I disagree. Yes you can. It's because it's your story. You can do whatever you want with it. Only to signify something you can't defeat or is not meant to be defeated, like Solaris' Garchomp should you really give it a level boost. And that's a wrap-up. Honestly there's not much to be said about this battle except Pyroar kept targetting Flutter and Broccoli while Rudolph Water Gunned him. Eventually Aqua Jet and Quick Attack from Bun was enough to take him out. And that happened too. Sweet. I'm beginning to understand why Popplio was quite popular when Gen 7 came out. Has a good learnset leveling up, a nice defensive typing and very interesting stats to work with. A lot of levels gained as well. And an evo, too. Just the extra waterpower we need right now. And we got ourselves this one in the process: Boxed, unfortunately. I've been using Litleo a lot so I'm kinda over it. I don't quite know if we're strong enough to take this one on yet. Yeah, we aren't, I lost this battle. Badly. Let's just head to Goldenwood already. Oh whoops I met Tesla on the way and she helped me out too ... but yes I am aren't I? I just help people voluntarily. So here is where I found Aevium to be a real treat for the eyes. The colors are attractive and vibrant, and the cinematic effects on top are really well done. Not capable of showing the entire sequence, but a snip: Doesn't fully demonstrate the beauty of what I intended to portray, but still a reference somewhat. Also obtained this from a special someone. I never knew this sequence existed in previous versions. (Did I trigger an event?) Thank you! She talks like she owns this place. Oh, the battles? Not all that interesting. Turns out Rollout has insane power in a cave. Who knew? A looksee into my team at this point: I really like, very diverse set. An ancient wall with inscriptions on it. In case you were wondering why it wasn't cliche yet. Maybe it's a light thing? The exposure of the inscriptions to the photons of the light- yeah, sounds ridiculous. But anything's possible in this game. I'd actually know what caused the tremor though. Someone somewhere else may also have orchestrated this little facade... Oh, how tied we are by the threads of fate. That's quite the spread. How were you even carrying that much on you? We did? All I did was sit through a cut scene and battle some trainers. Standards for work aren't high at all here, are they? I'm guessing because that someone is a cultist who doesn't want anyone to know about this supposed altar site? I'm too iffy at your liberal use of the word "friend" there, but whatever. Ah, the normal type. Quite refreshing, honestly. If only she'd stick to that type later on. Now we're talking my language. Huh, her Buneary. I remember how insanely overpowered this one is, especially with Fake Out and Double Hit. I fucking hate that move. (when it's used against me) IT KNOWS FIRE PUNCH?! REALLY? Who knew Rejuv's idea of increased difficulty was to slap on a few levels and give them ungodly fair egg moves? ... You're on out, Bun! Might lower its unreasonable attack stat as well while we're at it. Fucking critical hits. You did your job, Bun. At least you got a Baby-Doll Eyes and a hit in before that. It's time to unleash my killer ratto. This is going the way I hoped. All right Geronimo. (he already one-shotted her Ralts) Let's give it a test. And there's the sacrifice. I missed a screen here, but Gero died and Stufful survived with half HP. Tanky motherfucker. Let's pull out the big guns here. Isn't it? (thank god for Sonicboom) Thank god for Sonicboom So it would seem. I wouldn't be too worried tho. It isn't easy to defeat me. Moving on, tho... (Not visible on the image, but the screen just vibrated) Aren't we in Goldenwood forest? I should really read the signs more. And that isn't a good sign either. Calamities await me. So these are two of the guys we battled? I don't even remember them, tbh... I guess it's time to step in. Because even if it isn't our problem, it needs to be for the story to progress. Quelle surprise. There ya go. That honestly seems like a great reason to leave. These questions are so pointless IT's TEAM XEN Ha! I said it first. So it's time to take 'em on! Fighting an international team syndicate is going to be really fun, a sure step up from all the rookie trainers up to this point. . At this point I feel like the game is making fun of me. Anyways I skipped the next couple of shots which were honestly quite forgettable. We're introduced to the whole Shadow Pokemon premise which is a concept that is vague at best. We then are requested to snag the Pokemon away from Team Xen using the snag machine in Melia's briefcase. Surely enough, I snagged it away. (I'm interested to know if not doing so will change anything, let me know what happens if you've tried it out) With the snag machine. Wasn't it just explained? Well isn't that awfully presumptuous. Moving on to one of the more important sequences here since it introduces some recurring characters who are interesting: I really like Team Xen grunts. They know when they're beaten. Still a bunch of incompetent idiots though. You're not that stupid, mystery man. I guess he figured it out. Spoiler Why does Zetta never mention this action of Jenner's in the future? Or does he? I'm not sure if it ever comes up in the story. (I'm really bad at paying attention) And onto this well animated scene. They really got the act of Sharon clasping her face in exasperation right. Wow, talk about working for a guy who doesn't even get your name right. Anyways, I'm guessing everything is blocked for now. Yup. And these are my accomplishment certificates - yeah I snagged all of them. One day I might change my mind and solve a problem with stolen pokes. Here I am indeed. She's just my medic. So I'm guessing Eli is not the brains of the duo. His trainer (not overworld) looks really scrawny so not sure if he's the brawns either. Or he just has a linguistic disability and the game likes making fun of that? WHAT now we're talking crime syndicate, with all the edginess that teens will love. Why? Why can't all the villains just SAY what the problem is instead of being so uptight and technical about it? Thanks, but I've been fine by myself so far Ah fuck, I don't have a choice, do I? The fact that these two get mugshots make it apparent that they will be making returns. "Misfortunate duo"? Why are they misfortunate? If they're misfortunate they really shouldn't be in Xen because they have some really big goals don't they? I hope it's just the games attempt at making a joke rather than them actually being called the misfortunate duo. That's pretty dark, even for a crime organization. Interesting Pokemon as well. I wonder if Flutter can outspeed that Misdreavus... And he couldn't. Yeah you sneak up all you want, baby Nice. I'm depending on this one a lot. That was so satisfying. So while the misfortunatos target Melia, I can use all this while to set up. Ah well, that was inevitable. Although not before doing this: Pretty useful. That was inevitable. And so were these. I love you, Balls. I find it strange that their backs are turned to us here. Anyways, the duo decide to leave us alone, thanks to an old friend: They didn't look like they enjoyed their jobs at all, though. ... This dude is the shit though. Always high as fuck and rambling nonsense. Very entertaining and fun to defeat. No, they were not. They tried their best though. Pokemon-battle wise. ... These guys are just giant dicks. They're just trying really hard to be mean and diss everyone. It's very interesting to note that there are a lot of foreshadowings in this game, and a couple ones are a lot less subtle than others. Zetta's early-on acknowledgment of Melia is a big hint. I guess this girl's self-obsession really boils down to a molecular level... Snaggy? What about him? His unnecessary know-it-all riddly attitude irks me. See what I mean? (the music is really suitable for this, so ominous) *shrieks of surprise* Yeah man, no one gives a fuck. So Zetta challenges us to a battle, on winning which we see what that thing is. At most, it'll beef up the stats of some Pokemon and add in an extra typing. Nothing really interesting. Anyways... Well, what does this guy have? Considering he is like a miniboss, he should have some interesting mons. Especially in Intense mode. Yeah, Flutter hasn't been handling herself lately, so Rudy will have to fill in. ... which he did finely! Type: Null. I know nothing about this mon except it evolves into Silvally and its being a moral type. I thought I'd get a hit in first, but looks like that Brave nature really makes that difference... Let's revamp strategy. Step 1: Step 2: Life is easy with status inflictions. And here goes the next one. Pretty much straight one or two shotters. I'm so thrilled. And he did, look! It's a slightly scarier Gyarados! ... I think I'll call it a day here, guys, That Dimensional Gyarados isn't going anywhere without me. Be sure to let me know what you feel! Veterans Azeria Posted December 17, 2018 Veterans Share Posted December 17, 2018 Just to note; Spoiler See I take issue with this because you fail to note that the Scrafty fight is mandatory for the story and is much more akin to the double battle vs Garbodor. This is a sidequest. Wanna know what Reborn has for sidequests that are similar to this? Spoiler Both of these before your second badge with your level limit at level 25. I understand that your thoughts might run the same with those, but touting Reborn as an example without taking into consideration the different contexts the two are in seemed a bit out of place when criticising the game. That aside I've enjoyed this quite a bit so far, keep it up champ!
Commander
About the Pyroar event... It was originally a Growlithe event where the lady dropped a Fire Stone which was rather fitting and made for a rather crazy fight of the equivalence of basically fighting a legendary as an early game superboss. You still had a lot of things to use against it. I kind of wish Jan went with some other Pokemon like maybe Pikachu and Raichu to keep the stone idea...over that. It's more of a gripe trying to stretch logic to the extreme than anything else. Though I don't really think you should really gripe about a powerful optional opponent early as it gives off more of a boss vibes which can be fun. The big point is that it is optional and while extremely hard for some teams, it still is within reason to beat it since you not only get rain, but the other two aren't really going to be much of a threat. It being doubles is kind of the important thing here since it cannot take out both your Pokemon in a single turn. As for the Jenner part in the spoiler: Spoiler Nothing is ever directly said but Jenner's actions do get brought up a few times only for Melia to intervene or someone else to say "Shut up!" and move on before going deeper. The best bits of info we really got to learn about Jenner is from a very out of the way sidequest. I've only reached near the end of the Terajuma arc, but I do think we'll eventually learn more about our Jenner buddy, but I don't expect much. That aside I've enjoyed this quite a bit so far, keep it up champ! Ah I never did consider the "optional" aspect of the game when comparing it to Reborn so true, that is an unfair comparison. I was wrong. However, my original point still stands. I don't like that difficulty is increased by levels merely. I can understand egg moves somewhat but that being besides the point, from a player's perspective, having a really high leveled mon to fight out of the blue feels kinda jarring and out of place. That sort of setting usually works well with a game like Rejuvenation, but this is an exception. And thank you! That being said, as a general rule, I don't like the idea of slapping on some levels just to make it a bit harder. About Jenner: Spoiler Good to know that part isn't just missed after all. Oh, which sidequest is that? (Pray remind me to do it before it's too late) You better make the most of his company asap then. Melia would be furious, so it's a double bonus. RedAlert
Hello everyone! I guess it's time for part 3? Hoping to get at least one badge before this part ends... Well, we'll know. - - - - - - - 3: Rifts and Punks Spoiler So in the last episode, Zetta opened up a Dimensional Rift, which in his words are "spheres of incredible dark energy composed of a single sacrifice". Which kind of is similar to the PULSE!s in Reborn. The creation, structure and nature of the rifts are unknown, but what is known about the rifts' functionality: Ignoring the battle aspect of the rifts for now, it's the transportation that intrigues me. Where exactly are we transported to? What use does this have in the story and how does it tie to the plot? ... NOW. Returning to the present! I had a different adjective entirely, but ok I really, really do (It's 6v1 pal, you really don't have a chance MAKE UP YOUR MIND, MAN. I hate how his pointless dialogue just adds up on my screenshots... I'm gonna have to battle that Gyarados? I mean it's fairly obvious at this point. So by devouring us, we transport to an altered dimension where we fight the Gyarados... within the Gyarados. Interesting. oh faq me dead not also yeah I save Magikarps I think that's the last of them. Might as well check out the Rift Dex to see what this is all about. Yikes. The backstory bit reminds me of Platinum actually, with all the Commanders trying to prematurely evolve the Magikarp in the three lakes. So no more flying typing, meaning I can't count on Balls to solo this battle with a Charge Beam... Extra precaution must be taken. This battle should go pretty well, tbh, considering our pretty good levels. Huh. The animation is still pretty nice. Come at me you ugly bastard Oh, what now? I wonder if the player can actually see Melia's spirit/soul like they do now, or if it's just an implication. Pretty intense to see her sitting on its nose. But anyways! By letting me battle it? (I love how the music is still playing as I screenshot this) Jesus that thing looks monstrous. It's not even prematurely evolved though... And I just got double intimidated. Alright Bun, you know what to do! Wonderful. Now hopefully it doesn't take us out in one hit. Ah ha. Guess who else is getting their attack -2d And great, a dark arena to negate its loss of STAB... Holy shit does it hit hard. Might as well go for one last Baby-Doll Eyes... Ah, what a valiant way to go. Well done, Bun. Wonder if I should go for Sonicboom or Charge Beam... Doesn't look like Gyarados has TOO much HP anyways so I'll go with the former. And it's faster, too Wonderful I thought Voltorbs were freakishly fast Well that did as much damage as I thought it'd do. Come on back into your ball, boi Come nestle into my pants .... You'll get your chance again, don't worry Someday Missed a shot here, but Gyara used Thunder Fang for some reason... Since he has more than half HP, I'm gonna opt out on Priority for now... Hopefully this works. Well, at least I wasn't wrong. I do hope to god that he gets a hit in though... And that's honestly quite fair. Snuck in a Quick Attack before he went down. Going good so far. Thankfully it doesn't have Moxie or some crap, that would be game-breaking. (don't do it, devs) And now for my main plan of action... Isn't she wonderful? Hah. Twice in a row, nice! Missed another screen here, but Flutter got in a Gust before she gets hit by a Fire Fang. Sadly... Might as well get some EXP for this one And he didn't do badly at all! Can't wait till this little fucker evolves... learns some really good moves along the way as well. So... how did I get back here again? I saw you, too. Wonder if that's just for the player rather than the character. What a dumb brick I know. It's all thanks to yours truly You can kiss me if you want to He what?! I did everything! Who's side are you on again, Melia? Perhaps. Do you even know where it went? We;re gonna have to clear the way, folks. Melia's about to unleash her super powers. OH MY GOD This triggers me so much ... I honestly have a feeling she will be the champion of Aevium Who else could have so much foreshadowing of near invincibility? I mean, if you can channel one move with Metronome, why not EVERY MOVE EVER?! sigh... Of course it did. You're the "chosen one" after all This is the price I pay for saying people find us too important... What pisses me off more is that it's like, Level 13 or something. So you notice it too. So not only did you pull some BS right there, you managed to teleport us inside the Pokecenter. For once, she speaks sense. I mean, Team Xen practically has access to space aliens somehow... But it's nothing some Alpha Metronome can't solve, eh? Oh great. More eavesdropping. This game really coerces you to doing not-so-honorable deeds, doesn't it? So this basically confirms that Jenner wasn't in a sexchat when we first saw him... Just a double agent acting for Team Xen. Also, new character alert. Welcome: Madelis. I think I'll prepare some character bios in a bit and what I truly think of them. So here is the first time this big baddie is mentioned (if I'm not wrong). I still don't see why Melia had to be sent to Goldenwood forest to be captured... Jenner could have just taken her for a stroll and gotten her abducted or something. ... Unless it was Jenner's idea to send her to Goldenwood forest, on the pretext of helping Xen. It almost sounds like these two dated in the past... What happened to hiding? Yes, this whole time. Thanks to you starting the conversation the minute we walked in. But anyways, Team Xen have to understand the meaning of discretion. They're literally out in the open! Ouch. CLEARLY, no unresolved feelings there. The disparity between these conversations is hilarious. While one person is having a life-changing epiphany, the other is talking about capturing her openly. Ulp. I guess that's our cue. I would have so preferred staying out of this really awkward conversation, but it looks like that's my life. Very surprising, Jenner. Not like I needed anyone's help either. Just between you and me, I defeated it alone. Then why send him?! Ah, I forget, Madelis is merely a pawn. How you gonna do that? How did you even get here anyways? Past security? She's either really blended into the crowd or there's minimum security. Or she could have pulled an Alpha Metronome. Probably looking too deep into this... Ah well. At least she cares about us. More than I can say about anyone else since we got off the ship. And why am I left behind? ... It's the thought that counts, right? "You suck?" It doesn't look like they're interested in me anyways. I DEMAND TO KNOW WHY Well, that was heavy. And put me in danger, despite you knowing that I was a novice. And you also did send her there first. Quit trying to play the nice guy, man. Looks like you didn't know exactly what type of danger would happen in Goldenwood forest.. Did you know I fought a Gyarados? What use would that Snag Machine be then? Hah! Talk about awkward timing. Thanks. I did assume that at first though. I guess this is Crescent at play here. What a weird person. These people all like to be super mysterious for no reason. (So I guess he doesn't know her, either) For once I am happy that I'm not the only one in complete darkness. What the hell did I do?! I was just roped into some random things and had to act in some way, right? Now you're just fucking with us. I guess explanations are just non-existent in this game. Welcome to my world, Ren. For once I am understood. Oh boy, where do I even start? Probably with that, yup Guess those days are over. Cause harm seems to be their only intention. I guess people love explaining what is already explained to us. sigh... I thought Venam hated you? Also if it's so important why do you want me to come along? I can just battle Venam and move on. Of course she is. Well, I guess it's time guys. For my first metal piece. Never can get enough of those. You're the one who said it! Now that is something to look forward to. (I'm sure he doesn't just mean Venam) Ah fuck. No one even bothered to heal my poor pokes. So let me just do that and get that first badge. I wonder if I should switch out Broccoli considering it's a Poison gym... Gonna use this one as a temporary stand-in. He's doing quite well tbh. I hope Broccoli doesn't mind. That should make him feel better. Also, this will be useful. So many trainers en route to Venam... There are the gym trainers as well. That's kind of plain. I remember how descriptive the main games' gyms were. "CRASH CRASH CRASHER WAKE" or something like that? ... Alright then. I didn't mean to screenshot the trainer battles, but... This couldn't possibly be... ? I think this is a pretty common sprite, too. Probably not her. Anyways... Sure you won't Pity. Well someone's a big shot, isn't she? I don't really enjoy the splurge of purple, but it's alright, I guess. And look what you've done with it! Why must the air be so corrosive?! I think I need an Antidote... Tough call. Let's get this underway. . . . So I won't lie, I had quite a tough time defeating her. Her Pokemon were all very tough, and it took some amount of calculation for me to understand the full composition of her team and how she used it. It took me 4 tries to defeat her (I defeated her the 4th time I battled) and tbh, I had to have all the luck on my side for it to happen. (I would document the losses as well, but it's pretty obvious how I lost once we get to see the upcoming battle) It begins with this. One of the most trickiest parts about Venam is her damaging field. You have to make sure not to send in a mon at low HP, essentially meaning never to send out a mon at low HP, unless you're absolutely sure you'll never use it in the battle again. In trial 1, I realized that Flutter could two-shot her Nidorina. Why not make it easier? So I missed a couple screens here, but it woke up on the FIRST TURN. It then proceeded to hit Flutter with a Venam's kiss, leaving her with just a little more than half HP. Before I could finish it off with another Psybeam, Venam switched it out to her Whirlipede. Now be warned, it is very dangerous as it has access to Speed Boost and has terrifying defenses at the early stage. Best to target its (relatively) lower Sp. Def. Flutter hits with another Sleep Powder. It wakes up on the first turn, again, and sets up. I have to say though: Spikes + Corrosion will deal a hefty amount of damage, so be prepared Thank god Broccoli isn't in this fight, little tyke would have been destroyed in seconds Thank god I'm not missing the Sleep Powder, at least At red health, Venam Super Potions. My plan for her is to eliminate them by numbers (I believe she has 3 of them, if anyone is interested, but I don't want to spread false info either) This battle eventually wore out. Even though Flutter didn't suffer any more damage, Speed Boost enabled Whirlipede to set up a second layer of Spikes. Scary. But this happened. (Alolan) Grimer is up. I decide to switch out, since Flutter is a absolutely necessary for future mons. And that is the effect of Spikes + corrosion. Ah, perfect. Priority as well. Keeps getting better and better A single Water Gun was able to bring him to half HP, but that damn Sitrus Berry prevents me from two shotting it. A critical Shadow Sneak is enough to finish Rudolph off. Litleo is up next. Grimer gets a Bite in, thankfully not poisoning Litleo. I so wanted to take this screenshot of this valiant little helper of ours on the next turn, but I couldn't. Grimer gets in one Bite and leaves Litleo with literally 1 HP. Talk about luck. 2 down, 4 to go. Exhilarating. This one up here is her ace. Be very wary of it. Very wary. And there you have it, folks. What essentially makes this Intense. Z-Moves. Gero-boi had no chance. I decide to send out Bun next. Baby-Doll Eyes will be a boon in these troubled times. No chance whatsoever. Balls is up next. He's faster, so he should do something of value? Jesus, how much HP does this thing have? ... Well it's a non-evolving Pokemon, so I guess it's pretty large. Inevitably... So we're down to 2 Pokemon, while Venam still has 4. However... Looks like Nidorina isn't the only one Flutter can two-shot Even better. Looks like we're even now. 2v2. Thank god she doesn't have Revives. It'd be a nightmare if she did. (i shouldn't really give devs ideas anymore) Time for a more interesting battle. Mareanie has quite solid defenses, so it's best to wear it down a bit first. Hopefully I get a Stat boost Tinted Lens working its magic there Another thing to note: Since Corrosive field is applicable, Mareanie's ability Merciless applies and all of its attacks will be critical hits. Isn't that fun? Well that seems almost useless. Still, not too worried. Switch tactics again. Hopefully a stat boost THIS TIME? Ah, that actually worked better than I expected. Didn't get a boost but oh well. Fuck you. You have 3+ super potions, a field boost that strengthens almost all your moves, cripples my own, and a Z-crystal. I'm being completely fair. (except for the 100% accurate Sleep Powders and the last critical, which I didn't expect at all) Fucking Sitrus Berries. I missed another shot here, but Ivysaur uses Venam's Kiss, leaving Flutter down on critical HP. (She gets a critical here, I must add) And that's how it's done. Flutter just took out like 5 of her pokes all by herself What a pro Can you say that again? It really turns me on. ... That's it?! I need way more for the effort put in, c;mon. Despite your cheating tactics, yes. The modest ones triumph at the end, after all (after losing 3 consecutive battles that is) looks like I'm 1/18th of my way there, folks I'm proud. Are you? ... Ok you don't have to be Yup. She really fucked up big time. I doubt it, really. I mean, she lost to me. I don't like these assumptions, Venam. But sure, why not. What are "friends" for anyways. Sigh. Ah Ha Not so dumb after all, are we Venam? Such a sneaky sneaky bitch. Using sneak tactics and sneak reading my mind. But nah. I'm a good guy. I help people. I mean "showing up" is a necessity for the game to proceed Even though I don't mind it, the game assumes we like Melia and are her bestest friend already. ... Huh. First thing's first though. I think that's a wrap-up, folks. Next time we're heading to Route 2, I guess. Although god knows what awaits me there. Thanks for reading! Feel free to comment, rate and subscribe! Appreciation needed tho...
RedAlert
That was a longer break than expected, thanks to real life responsibilities and pitiful attempts at adulting *shudders* Now for the part of my life that I actively enjoy. Oh yes, btw, game updated to V11, so there will be a lot of new content for me, especially since I haven't played any of the post-V10 yet in my original playthrough nor have I started a new game since the new release. So a new game in its entirety is in the waiting! Without further ado, let's get this episode started! - - - - - - - 4: A New, Old City Spoiler ... and who dis? I'm either terribly unobservant or there are two many damn characters in this game to keep track of. (Not that I'm complaining, it's an upward learning curve) Dafuq? Did my sprite change? Where's my OG emo SS sprite at? Can't deny he looks kinda cool, but the changing designs are throwing me off... Eh. Minor setbacks. ... I recall someone else being present when I left the gym in earlier versions... The one and only. Word gets out fast I see. So everyone in Aevium who wants to smash rocks is a member of your crew? Well, well, this was an interesting turn of events. It's been two minutes and there are so many changes already. That would be the regular chain of events, yes. On your way now. Ah. The catch. ... I love how everyone just assumes we know these places. Well, what's an adventure without a little mystery in it, eh? First of all... Yayyyyyy (It wasn't easy getting that sprint on screenshot) Who wouldn't? ... That's weird, I'm unable to pick it up I feel like there's a bug. (Did anyone try out this in V11?) Oh well. Let's go get ourselves a substitute snake. Never enough Disney for me Also: Another one for the Birdbox memes. I've heard of how useful this one turns out to be later on, so adding more to my arsenal right away. They're in the city now?! Holy hell are they getting bold. And my god is the changed music good The battles are pretty substandard though, despite the increase in Pokemon. Looks like there are quite a few of them here... Lots of opportunities to level up the newbies before heading to meet Karrina Gonna get this one on our side as well. For those of you who have followed my Grass Monotype in Reborn (link in original post), you'll know how useful this guy is. This whole place has changed entirely Very much so. Now that's a solid Pokemon, but unfortunately I've used Nidoqueen on too many runs that I'd rather not anymore, so SKIP Speaking of change, however I gotta say I love the new Help Center design, a lot more than the previous ones - simple and neat. Looks pretty much the same on the inside though. Anyways. Thank you very much. I have to remember to complete the final quest though - the Adriann/Novae trainer to be battled. I'm quite not ready for it yet though Let's go read some books now. Indeed it is. Oh? Let's see what this section has to offer then. All kinds of "research" going on here I see Ah, that's useful. But no. who dis? A lot. I just left my job recently and I could really use the extra money to work for my Master's degree- oh you mean Pokemon work. You'd better! Of course the first one you want isn't available here... You gotta have patience, lady. Btw, this was Zumi so say hello, guys. On to the actual story now... What's this now? Oh? Well, fuck you, man. I can't believe "Pay him" is an option. Seems like sheer intimidation tactics. Yup. Pretty much sheer intimidation tactics. They are, actually. I'm just an exception What a pleasant thug. Handles losing like a champ. There are a lot more bridges across Gearen than V10... And way more trainers too. Let's see what Gearen lab looks like now. Wooden tiling now, eh. Super classy. Who the hell is Shana? (if she's another dev I'm sorry) Can't say no to a possible reward. Spit it out, lady! Oh? A fangame within a fangame? Rejuv is turning into the ultimate troll game with so much fourth-wall breaking Ha. Noobs. jk That is so useful. So I'm a beta-tester now? Sweet. Count me in. Well I'm here right now so let's try this out, Shana. Context is what I live for, Shana Wait that doesn't make any sense. Nevertheless. So it's the Johto region I see. Cinder for me. I love that flaming hamster of adorableness. Oh we get a fastforward too? Neat. Sounds like the exact same line from the original. Let's roll! Well that was quick, even with the added field modifications. Thanks, I guess. If I'm wasting time getting virtual badges in a virtual game while forgoing virtual badges in a virtual game is it actually wasted time? Too k0mPlIK8?? Oh cool, I guess I get to battle all 8 gym leaders? Or 16 for that matter... I wonder what my reward will be... Anyways. Ah, Oceana Pier. What new things await me here? Say yes to open up a hilarious set of circumstances. Spoiler alert... it leads to a game over. (I still got some Pina Colada tho, and for some reason, my character can talk? shout even apparently) Anyways. I do not. It's so good that I've used it on every run of Rejuv that I simply can't have it again. Interesting... Might catch a Rockruff later just to see what this is about Also overabused in earlier games... I'm running out of Pokemon to use, honestly Anyways, TO THE ACTUAL STORY The placement of the factory in an exclusive location as opposed to it being randomly placed in the city makes it obvious that this part of the story has some greater purpose than we thought... Sounds like just normal laughter to me. But if you say so... Well, let's get ready to knock some heads in! Thank you, Captain Obvio. A random factory in the middle of nowhere. I love how in this game people just walk in guns blazing into any random shady place assuming it has minimal security. Of course this region is going to shit if all the good guys are clueless about everything. And of course they can see us, but not us them. This Jenkel fellow obviously has a lot more to his backstory than what met the eye ... is that ...? I'm positive it is now. Anyways. OUR target Pokemon? You mean we're trying to save it, right? So we had a Dimensional Rift Gyarados at first, and now a Musharna. Who wants to bet it's some warped freak as of now? I wonder what it could be other than a Dimensional Rift, though... And who wants to bet that we'll be doing all of the leg work? And of course there's a way for me to do all the work! (I want to point out that I'm not grumbling because of the challenge, simply because I love challenges, but it's hilarious to see how we're somehow made to be the ONLY one capable of performing the most daunting tasks/pokemon-battling. And yet somehow end up with no credit despite that) Typical villain trashtalk etcetera etcetera Well, he looks exactly like his overworld sprite. What demons does he possess? Ooh, double battle. Fancy. I don't think these two are quite capable of handling themselves yet. And considering the field, I bet one of the Munnas is equipped with a Thundershock or so. So time for a double switch. Well, it turned out my predictions were right. Hit 'em with a Charge Beam, Balls! The field effect is nice + it helps that Munna is incredibly slow. Jenkel next sends out the struggling Musharna. Oh, this will be a blast. And it turns out that it has Misty Surge as well. There goes my plan to involve status effects. Gets better and better turn by turn. Anyways, Munna is faster and finishes Balls off with a Psybeam. And I guess that Mist Ball was aimed for Balls, boding well for us. Come on out Flutter! Hit 'em with the Silvery Wind! And that happened. I feel like I should have targetted Munna first? Oh well. And thus is the end of a long and illustrious career. Would have helped so much if I played this at night and involved him... But I guess it all worked out. ♪ We're beautiful, like diamonds in the sky ♩ Well hello, Scooby Doo. I gotta say, I actually like Jenkel, a lot more than most of the other bland characters. He really intrigues me. OH GOD THE LIGHT Well, I was. Oh lord not already. "Oh no I was actually saving this Pokemon by performing unsolicited and unsupervised experiments on it and it worked out great" Besides that point, what was the whole point of this operation if there was no harm? I still like this guy tho. Seems like a troll character but still intriguing for some reason... YOU on the other hand... Why can't people in this world ever have a civil conversation and form conclusion before just jumping right into it? Well can't blame them. Look at America Ha. Yes, the stereotypes are to blame. You hear the term Mad Scientist and I already picture Black Mirror in my head. So it all worked out well? I wish Kaa and Malorie got some more experience tho... Ok now I REALLY like this guy List of people Red likes so far: Mother (for saving our life) Tesla (also saving our life, wish she could have saved Mother as well but can't deny her helpfulness. Also saved us considerable money by buying a ticket for us) Nurse Joy (for making life livable) Eli and Sharon (+ points for animating Sharon's frustrated forehead smack) Jenkel (intriguing, whacky and genuinely funny. Seems to be hiding something but that's what makes him all the more intriguing) List of people Red is iffy about: Crescent (she says she wants to make Red smile, but that's about it for her concern. Doesn't seem to care for our mother or any other individual at all) Ren (was pretty helpful in the sewers, healing up our mons but that's about it. Is just a good-natured blockhead who does whatever asked) Melia (poster-child for goodness kinda throws me off, but genuinely seems to have good intentions) Jenner (seems to care for Melia, but does a lot of questionable things and does not care about involving anyone or putting anyone else in danger. Respect for the fact that he trusted us with Melia but still does not completely justify putting a novice trainer in danger) Karrina (just met her, but is just clueless and does whatever she thinks is right with literally zero thought) List of people Red has a hate boner for: Venam (fuck that bitch) Zetta (fuck that bitch) God that's a lot of characters already. I don't even think I covered them all. I think I'll have to add you in the hate-boner list, Karrina. Why are you taking me with you? It's chips and drinks! An issue I took care of, though. I feel like you keep forgetting on purpose. Oh? Looks like she had a motive for coming here. Something more to Karrina's story than what meets the eye, clearly... Gotta keep an eye on this one. Thanks, I guess. Now I can blow things up. All missions "tickle my fancy" But I really feel like I'm going to be used to further some rather personal objectives of hers... Anyways. Looks like we can finally go to Route 2. I guess this is where the "dream" concept comes from? But I guess purification is out of the question now... MEGA PUNCH ... Yes I totally did that myself Holy hell. So close yet so far... Be mine, beast! Time to get some Pixar into the mix... That is a really good level at this stage. One last thing to grab before we get out of here... I am not. Wow her own mother finds it difficult to love her. ... I like her. Now now, let's not be so loose with that term quite yet I'm surprised how she has any at all, really. I REALLY like her. I wonder how all the mom figures in this game are so lovable while the teenage ones are so edge and angst-filled. I guess it's human nature? *shrugs* How about "pettiness"? Thanks, I'll take advantage of your hospitality, ma'am. What to steal, what to steal Ah there we go. A lot better than the crummy Poison Sting. Anyways... Hopefully good results this time. Come on Marty! Decimate that shit! ... Well that was painfully underwhelming. (it had an Oran Berry, though) At least Rudolph cleans up well. It's so relieving that Kaa isn't completely useless anymore... A barrage of attacks followed here. Bun proved to be stronger than Rockruff even with the Oran Berry buff, however, Novae switched out to Sandygast. In response I switched out to Flutter predicting a Ground move... I got to say Tinted Lens is one of the most useful abilities early on. I completely fudged up here. Looks like it's gonna be a while before Malorie evolves... Rudolph proves his worth here again. I got to say Brionne's stats are through the roof. While every other mon is oneshotted (even the ones that aren't supposed to be Glass Cannons), Rudolph is able to tank 4-5 hits and still remain in the yellow. Well, now that that's over this, we can collect our reward: Aren't those IVs lovely. I don't know if I'll use her tho... I'm getting a lot of female Pokemon lately... Welp, looks like it's getting dark. I really meant to get to Route 2 in this episode, but the new version turned out to be a lot more detailed than the former ones. There also turned out to be a lot more content since the upgrade to V11, so I took a lot of time exploring the (renovated) city. All in all, quite a lot of new things that were added in and for the most part, I found it to be thoroughly enjoyable despite a few things I would have preferred to be left out. Also, we got ourselves a bunch of new Pokemon this time, Hopefully we cover the entirety of Route 2 + Amethyst Cave in the next episode, and make it to Sheridan! Thank you for reading! RedAlert
I've been compelled to play more of Rejuvenation lately, since I've found this to be especially enjoyable what with all the new additions. The story in general seems a lot more coherent and tangible than it used to be, thanks to certain displays of character motivations. Before I start with today's episode I'd like to address something (or rather someone's motivations in particular) we came across in the earlier episode that interested me - Karrina. To refresh your memory, or if you are reading this for the first time, here's the screenshot that caught my attention: - which is something she says immediately after the battle in Jenkel's laboratory. So I think it's fair to say that with this statement, there's little doubt as to whether Karrina has some ulterior motive behind making us attack Jenkel. It's clear that she wanted to delay us in some manner, strongly suggesting something directly related to Melia's disappearance. This little episode of ours results in the delay of the entire rescue/find Melia operation which ultimately leads to the outcome as we see in Amethyst Cave. Notice how she specifically says that she hopes for the "best outcome". She doesn't say she hopes that Melia is saved by us, but rather the long-term results of it. I'd like to share more of my thoughts on this right now, but I'll hold it when it becomes more relevant and understandable as the story proceeds and reaches those points. I like this addition here especially, since it feels like our character has more involvement in the story than what meets the eye. Our actions (although our hands are tied and through no will of our own!) result in the rest of the story., which is what gives the story more meaning and value. And now for the episode at hand: - - - - - - - 5: More rifts and raffs. And caves. And happiness. And gloom. And pokemon. stuff Spoiler Looks like our monetary problems are stabilizing. If only the same could be said about real life Doesn't look like Route 2 has been tampered with since the update. Thank God. I know I said I loved the changes from V10 to V11 and everything, but I just am not ready to deal with layout and structural changes at this point. At least for this one episode. I don't get why a thief would shout out a warning before stealing your money, but I guess the implication here is that she isn't a thief. Subtle foreshadowing? I think not. Just a little polish required for these dialogues to make the story more realistic. Also, I really hate that the game chooses to use our inability to move while cutscenes occur in such a way. But still, minor hiccups. I can't believe I've spent 12 hours on this game already. I should reevaluate my life. ... That's something I'll have to keep in mind, I guess. I guess it keeps things interesting if there are points where you'll have to come back to certain places for certain events but it also adds to a lot of clutter. Which is a big problem for OCD players like me. HIYAH! I'm so glad I work out. (I should really stop making that joke) (but i do work out) hmu ladies (What incredible, well-thought out dialogue) I guess we figured out how people get high in Aevium But this happened, which I'm very happy about! I didn't expect such an early evolution since Bun has fainted a couple times. I guess that's the move I'll be spamming quite a bit in the upcoming battles... Looks like Route 2 is almost completely untouched. The shadow effects are gorgeous, however. Gives you the real feel of the sunlight streaming through the trees... A lot of the early trainers are really selfish entitled brats Is it just me or does the majority of Aevium seem to be super aggressive and mean for the purpose of being super aggressive and mean? Although there are exceptions... Wow, another unexpected evolution so early! I guess I'm just a really lovable person Throwback to Pokemon Emerald where two people would interview you and make you a celebrity on TV I haven't checked the TV to see of any mention of us while we traverse Aevium, so that should be an interesting side activity to do once we reach civilization Oh shit yeah Where are you you thiefff Yeah, right. (I swear to god I couldn't find her the first time I played, way back in V9) Is that what I’m doing when I press the interact button? I mean, it sounds kinda obvious but I’m just imagining our overworld poking everyone and everything he needs to interact with… I’ll make that much amount in an hour (of course in this game because I don’t have a job, thanks for reminding me but that’s besides the point) but stealing is WRONG So she has access to the move “Teleport” as well Well I guess it's a lot more plausible than that Alpha Metronome bullshit since she has Psychic types... Anyways, welcome a new addition into our team! Although I do wish I came up with better nicknames on the fly... I literally took 10 minutes to come here. I even took my sweet time catching a female Combee Ha ha? Sure..? What an oddball. But I love how happy she actually seems to be. Really enjoying being herself, which says a lot more about her character than the hundreds of forgettable emo gloomy NPCs The one and only, from Pallet Town. (Yeah that's what I look without the cap) Venam isn't a lot of things. All the signs of a dysfunctional stalker are clear... Do you sleep with the trainers that beat Venam, too? Ah, well. I can't help but be so good. Now you're speaking my language, Nim. I don't think anything. I'm positively certain you'll have a field advantage... Isn't that sweet. But I'm NOT surprised. ... I doubt what she did here is even minutely healthy... Ay, she's actually kinda cute. I don't remember seeing her mugshot before. "Apprentice", eh? Interesting. Wonder who exactly she is an apprentice to... Wanna bet that that will turn out to be a major plot point later on? Considering Crescent has a Gothitelle I would assume she's a Psychic type, since most trainers in Aevium tend to favor monotype teams, it makes perfect sense that Nim is her apprentice. But that's for another time. Alright, let's get Marty some experience Looks like that isn't gonna happen. I need some more raw power to win this battle. That's more like it. PERFECT. Looks like she has exactly the same team as before... I do hope she doesn’t have a Mega Evolution on standby… I don’t really have any dark types equipped to deal with it. I should have gotten Geronimo with me, or at least evolve him for that matter. A-Raticates are so useful early game… Looks like these two are a lot more well prepped than Marty… What a champ my ace is. But I guess 65 BP is pretty overpowered early game... HEAVENS YES THAT MOVE IS 100 BP Indeed. I didn't expect to win this battle without some severe casualties, but Rudolph is ridiculously overpowered. So I missed a screen here, but Espurr Quick Attacked Bun and killed her. Aqua Jet did not affect Espurr, which makes me feel that priority moves don’t affect Psychic Pokemon in a Psychic field? Idk Anyways... That I am. But what's up with that stammer all of a sudden? And I still don't get why Aqua Jet didn't hit. Damn straight. Don't be a Venam Holy crap, that's a great adjective to use if someone's being petty or obnoxious Is that so? Wonder if I can fashion me some good ol’ boosts myself. Really need to acquire some human skills like “craft” and “steal” Too many people love Melia in this game for some unknown reason… … Well, I best get going to save her important ass. I hate how condescending these people are. I AM NEW TO THIS REGION OK Well, not so much a choice as much as a necessity to get my next badge, but sure. I'll humor you. Sounds about right. I was hoping you'd tell me because I hate forkroads because of the completionist I am. ... Well, I'll be on my way then. Good luck with Melia, guys! Ah fuck. Of course there are obstacles. Both those questions say so much about their character. Venam is a hotheaded ball of toxic sewage, while Ren is curious about the truth and relatively much calmer. I did say that he seemed like a very gullible guy, however I guess it's one of the game's flaws than the characters. What a weird thing to say. I'd assume the intent behind it is hostile because he seems to be threatening us in some way, yet the question is so out of place with the time that I can't feel that hostility. I just feel like he's a hooded clown. I really think that that's where Rejuvenation falls short of Reborn. While some moments are really well done, there are some things that just don't seem to have the effect on you that was intended. I think it's a major flaw and should be worked on. Besides, he's not the first to make empty threats at us. That is literally the most flawed piece of logic that I've ever heard as to why Melia would go down some arbitrary path. While it makes sense that Melia is on the run, I thought it was more of a quest for revenge and to get stronger rather than just fleeing in fear. At least I got that vibe. This hooded man is just spouting crap to sound intelligent and eerie. Get the fuck out of here. Alright, here's where my problem is. While Ren's logic is sound, I do not understand the motive behind Melia's decision to run randomly into the depths of the cave. She had the rationale to choose Sheridan as a temporarily save haven from Team Xen as opposed to the other places, but was not able to figure out the path because of fear? I'd understand why she went the wrong path because of not knowing how to navigate the cave or if she hadn't been here before, but the hooded man specifically says that it was fear that drove her to make the wrong turn. But perhaps. Caves aren't necessarily the most pleasant place to collect your thoughts. Moving on. But you clearly don't. Well, that's another decision made for us. So far we haven't done a single damn useful thing other than intimidate the fuck out of them with our mons. *poke* If this were real this is where I'd get reported for assault Yayyy That's 4 evolutions in the span of 30 minutes. I'm a beast boyyyyyyyyy Well, the structure of Amethyst cave is identical to the one in V10 but where did all the Xen grunts go? I was really looking forward to catch that shadow Vanillite... It's unfortunate we can't catch them. I'd much rather have a Joltik than a Blitzle. Oh, but I must mention I love the blurry effect on the underground part of the cave. Looks so good and really gives the vibe that it's far away. The attention to detail is fabulous. REALLY I'm shocked that you were able to defeat a mighty team Xen grunt I doubt the ensuing dialogue is of any major importance since we have the facts down now. Well, that's what I've set out to do. Cause damage. Aww, isn't it adorable when your little buddies stand up for you? But thanks, Ren, I can handle myself. WHAT DID I JUST SAY VENAM If that were the case Team Xen would be done for For once, I agree with you. SHOCKING I have to admit that I was a little surprised at this revelation at first but my poor attention span combined with my utter lack of interest in the plot made me just glaze over the details. Plus it's too soon in the game to actually develop attachments to a character. Anyways. And this time, I actually like the dialogue because it feels real. The atmosphere is charged with tension and I can feel Zetta lose his patience and is actually furious at the moment. "YOU THINK I'M JOKING?!" The caps are needed So there's been little opportunity for me to say this but, here is where Rejuvenation exposes its dark and gritty atmosphere, where we can finally liken it to Reborn. The Torkoal torture scene is where I first experienced that part of Reborn, and now we get a taste of the same in Rejuvenation. It's moments like these when I actually sit back and think for the first time "What would it be like to have Pokemon in real life?" and certainly this aspect of it gives a more realistic feel to it. When wild and out of control, Pokemon are just wild animals trying to survive, dangerous and potentially violent in nature. I have to thank the devs for creating that effect in me, because I don't think I've ever had that with any other video game where I consider real life consequences and implications of incorporating those universes into our world. ... Again, the ensuing dialogue is not of major importance again because it's Zetta being an insufferable know-it-all again and Venam being heated and bitchy. Zetta provides Melia's bag as "undeniable proof" that she is indeed dead and proceeds to rant that we are the sole cause of this problem. The hypocrisy of being labeled as a murderer by a criminal organization is just too much for me, so I'm just gonna skip ahead to where we kick his pompous ass. Oh, and this is in line for us as well: Which means we'll have another rift to battle. Big deal. Not even a question. Ah, this'll be good. At least he has a Frogadier, which'll be a lot more useful than Venam's stupid slow af mons. Of course it has everything it needs. Marty's not even getting a hit in... A pity. That Double Kick would have done a number on the Sneasel... Honestly, that Sneasel is ridiculously fast. A glass cannon on side and a bulked up status resistant rock on the other... Rejuv sure knows how to pick 'em. Rudolph comes in and gets critical hitted, twice by both Sneasel and Minior. I led with Aqua Jet with Frogadier also hitting with a Smack Down, still not able to do significant damage to Minior, thanks to Shields Down. Should have gone for Bubblebeam instead, but I was uncertain whether Rudolph could outspeed the flying ball of rock Frogadier hits Sneasel for a powerful boosted Smack Down, but the little shit has a Focus Sash and survives. The two of them double team and take out Frogadier in the same move. I'm certain that Bun is not going to be outsped At least not for a little whille... Ren has actually been a useful partner throughout. I guess we do have good synergy together. Fucking Melia getting into my brain again... For once I am not being targetted. My major complaints in these double battles is that the AI seems to be intent on double-teaming us first despite type disadvantages. This along with the fact that our partner usually has shitty battle strategies makes it a major pain. Inevitably... Extremely weak until it evolves. That wasn't enough to kill Gloom, unfortunately. (It turns out that that little shit was holding on to an Eviolite) Well, this is pretty much a wrap-up. I mean... why would we, if beating you is so incredibly easy. What with so many good Pokemon at your arsenal too. What a shitty Pokemon trainer lol But one thing about Zetta is that he acknowledges his shittiness... And so the black hole-esque features of the rift suck us in. What I'm trying to figure out here is how it was able to suck in three people this time as opposed to one when we fought the Dimensional Rift Gyarados. Now it's not to say that it's a major plot point, but in the earlier case the rift absorbed specifically us. Melia tried to prevent us from going in but didn't get sucked in herself. From here we can deduce that Zetta is in complete control of the rift and it has some sort of subservient attitude towards him. I'd also assume that there's a life force that drives the rift itself (completely separate from the Pokemon consumed by the rift) that is what Zetta can control. The raging monstrosity that is created from the rift remains within a dimension unique to its own. Of course, that's my theory. You're welcome to debate it. Alright, kids, listen up. Clearly the only competent one among us who has experience dealing with these things is me. So I suggest you stand back and let me handle this. Really? That's what you're interested in? Where's all the rage from two minutes ago? YOUR FRIEND WAS MURDERED I would have thought it wouldn't have affected her since she's a Poison type. I know it sounds stupid but that's been pretty much the game's logic till now. Ha ha, it's hilarious when our names are used one after the other. Okay guys I'm serious again - he says, with absolute authority over the subject. He gonna touch it. I swear being a Pokemon trainer is the weirdest profession. Randomly walking around and touching things of interest. Something that is probably not the best option in real life. Well, let's have a look here. So there's the reasoning behind the name Materna. It's a lot better suited to its purpose than "Evo" Looks like Physical attacks will do much better. And good lord are these backstories tragic Doesn't Ren have this choice menu appearing on his screen? ... Anyways I don't understand what exactly she's implying. And the fact that it's scarring makes me even more curious. Guess it's something about eating us? That's one fine ass egg. I can't believe the Galvantula just straight up comes out of the egg. Also there was no doubt as to who I'd partner up with. Call it suicide but I don't want Venam fighting with me. I think they've changed the graphics for the rifts... Time to pick off these weak Joltiks. Oh my god Marty why do you give me a heart attack every time you battle. Really needs some strength to back up his abysmal stats. Doesn't help that he has a - in Attack when it should be a + Well that was inevitable. I was hoping to get the switch out on him and gain some experience from the Galvantula. I can't believe that that thing just hatched out of an egg at Level 29. But I nitpick. JESUS CHRIST I guess this is the only hit Malorie will get in... The level difference really allows it to outspeed anything on the screen. Gonna go for some physical damage to target it's lower defense... And it actually did a fair amount of damage. You did well, Malorie. Now rest. It outspeeds Bun too, who is my fastest Pokemon... This is what I mean by Ren actually being helpful. Straight up one shotted that Joltik before it could attack by relying on a dark move. +1 points in my book for him Anyways, time to avenge our fallen soldier... I missed a screen here, but Bun faints here. Inevitably... Well I guess that battle was slightly more problematic than I expected, thanks to Galvantula's abnormally high speed and its pain in the ass Electroweb which reduced my mons speed considerably. However, Ren was very helpful and knocked out two of the Joltiks for us, even one-shotting one while doing it. I'm just really strong, Zetta Get that through your head ... And Ren is okay too He honestly has some great Pokemon, though. Rival to be wary of indeed. Now THERE'S someone who's on the same page as me. Oh. It's an interesting name for sure, but... I wonder how she came up with it. That Shiny Gothitelle is freaking me out, though. And it looks like I was right about the rifts earlier. It's not like I've played this game before to know these facts beforehand, come on However, I'm gathering from their dialogue that these two don't know each other well enough. It's possible that Crescent may not even know of Team Xen's purpose or motivations for doing what they do. So Crescent is also a mystery. Our conversation with her back at the lab seemed to point that she had some knowledge of what was going on and was actively trying to prevent us from taking action. Reasons behind it are unknown. It could be either her genuine love and concern for us or her knowledge of the events forthcoming. Anyways, after a couple of screens with some threats and attempts to frighten Zetta (which actually worked): The "See you soon" also seems like foreshadowing. It's clear that she doesn't intend to harm him but is waiting to use him at the opportune moment. My my, Ren. He has a way with his words, tbh. I digress again here, but Ren is also a very well-knit and interesting character. For the most part, he seems like a random NPC without a brain cell in his head but there are certain instances where he seems to be quite calm and careful with his actions. It's either that the devs forget some of his rash impulses but mainly paint him as an intelligent, calculating character. Whether that's deliberate or not, only the devs know. Hear, hear. (jk I don't hate Melia unlike most of you ppl) Well... define "best" Btw guys I have to talk to you about someone called Karrina... ... I just love how everyone in this game thinks they know so much more than everyone else. It's a clear case of definitive superiority complex from every character and it's getting old. Zetta, Madelis, Crescent, every minuscule Team grunt, the majority of the random trainers on the road. It's just impossible to develop so many characters at once in a game without giving them enough screentime. That being... you? And I don't see the necessity of adding that French bit there. Showoff. *Incoming babble of revenge and how we have to get stronger* Ooh, "skank" It's very appropriate for her character, I gotta say How is that the problem though?! We defeated Zetta, literally beat up everyone in our path, and I can't believe that's the conclusion she's coming to. Strength is so inconsequential here. Even if I had a level 100 Blaziken the outcome would be the same. It's just that our timing was off. Again, I don't understand the line of logic here. What the fuck did Crescent do but annoy us mildly? It's so clear that she's not on Team Xen's side so I don't see how going after her solves anything. These kids and their baseless aggressiveness... Venam is just a mess of self-pity and insecurity that she masks by being loud and tomboyish. But even tomboys have their charm. Venam is just a mess. It's a little hard to forget this episode, really. Why even bring that up? Huh. Pretty heavy stuff here. That would be the logical sequence of events, yes. You've told me that already. ... I guess now's not the time for sass... Adios. So let's leave behind this gloomy atmosphere... But first. We take and steal and keep silent. It's bound to have some significant effect. ... Anyways. I caught a Modest natured Natu with great IVs and Magic Bounce. I used Teleport to heal because I couldn't be bothered going through the cave full of Digletts and this is where I ended up... I didn't save before I used Teleport so I lost the Natu. Pretty fucking sad because Xatu is one of the most useful mons with Magic Bounce and access to U-turn and Roost. (dev team, please fix such bugs so that we don't miss out on some of these opportunities thx) I know I probably could ask someone to fix this (or even debug it myself with RPG maker) but eh. I'll take what I get. Moving on... Again, with the uncalled for hostility. (Why can't people in Aevium just chill the fuck out?) That is the millionth time I've heard that today. It's hilarious how a random dude is just standing in the midst of it all. "Nope, I'm just an NPC and can't hear or see shit" About fucking time. Time to see the hubbub about this place. Looks like we're eavesdropping again... Look how much crime we've gotten ourselves into. Sounds like this place is ancient. Like really ancient. I mean the eldest is walking around with a huge candy cane. (Don't be fooled, it's not a walking stick) I love how passionate and energetic the youth are. I feel so old. People leaving? I'd love to know the cause of that exactly. Well said! But I guess that little motivational speech didn't have the intended benefit. Is she still speaking out loudly? And it looks like we can read minds now. Given that the elder was expecting us, it also points more clearly how deeply rooted we are in this story. Oh, not at all. After what we've gone through, I don't think trivial matters like this hardly is a cause for concern. Although I may have spoken too soon... ... What a sweet old lady. If only everyone else in Aevium could follow suit. Wonder why everyone is so naturally bitter... Anyways. The newest addition to my assortment of monsters. If only I had that Natu life would be perfect... But life seldom is, isn't it? ... Anyways, I'm going to wrap it up here with this episode. The game has kind of subjected me to a gloomy atmosphere (along with a sense of guilt thanks to the Karrina episode) although it's too early in the game for me to actually develop real feelings for the characters. Let's hope Sheridan has more positive things to offer! See ya folks!
RedAlert
Hello again, fellow Rejuvenation enthusiasts! I originally decided to document this because I have the memory of a sea crustacean and wanted to keep track of the story. Rejuvenation is such a big game with so many characters, heavily dependent on plot and yadayada, most of you already know this - so one way I could ensure that I could be up to speed with interesting. My original purpose is for myself to look back at this thread one day while playing V15 in 2030 and go "Ohhhhh, killing the player was actually an act of true love" or "Ohhhhh, no wonder Venam is a little bitch". Anyways... Let's get this thing going. - - - - - - - 6: Keta-genic Spoiler Listen darling, as long as you get Swords Dance on Geronimo I'll be satisfied. ... For now. (I want to make a quip about old people but all of them involve dying so I'll refrain) Now that is something that makes sense to brag about. Well... clearly you're not the WISEST ... ha! I'm so hilarious. NO. I respecc secrets Let's go do some help center quests to get this thing underways *yawns* I see you game, trying to sneakily educate me under the guise of knowing strange lore... So let me put this together. There was a catastrophe in Aevium that occurred a while ago, exact date not known. It's believed that the library is under water, but this guy concludes that it isn't through some research of his own. Well it's obvious that someone intentionally sealed off the library in that case. Probably the ones that caused the catastrophe in the first place, too. Well looks like we'll have to head back to Gearen. This one doesn't have any battles of importance but it does have a high degree of sexual tension between Jenkel and Karen... which I'd rather not relive. In any case, this happens at the end... Well, not really. Makes perfect sense because we'd probably end up OHKOing everything at this point. I don't even think we get the mega rings this early in the official games either, so this isn't bothering at all. It's more of a tease or a rub-in-your-face thing, I guess. I guess that's a more relevant prize for now. If only life were that simple. Gotcha. I'll give up on that Blue Moon Ice Cream for now. What I am interested in is if we can read the book we found in the Gearen Library a while ago... Guess not. (Is it the same book?) Finders keepers, Chad. I don't know why I called him Chad. He looks like a Chad. But that's what you get for getting other people do your work for you. ... If that isn't a life lesson, I wonder what is. I just realized how much we steal things that don't belong to us in Pokemon games. It's like we pretend no one else exists. Anyways, since I am such a beautiful soul... Your Pokemon. HANDS IN THE AIR! Oh yes. That. Lmao WHAT This boi thinking we dumb as bricks What's unfortunate is that we have no other option but to behave as if we are dumb as bricks Now there's this particular dialogue that is repeated that was in the previous versions. While visually this looks better, it doesn't make as much sense as before. Even though we know something shady is up before we enter the cargo hold, we're not prepared to fight a whole gang of thugs at once. The surprise factor is eliminated when they show us some sort of resistance before the beatdown. I'm not quite sure if I'm getting my point across. I still gotta admit that the 4 on-1 is still intimidating AF and it would have been a fun challenging battle. Buuut we're quite unprepared and help would be great. I feel like I could have one this battle on my own... Well they give up easy don't they. You ain't nuffin, little smurfs I know. But the game forces me to make stupid decisions against my will. ... She'll never understand the pains of being a silent protagonist. Thanks to Venam, we have some lovely advice. Anyways, now we're in Gearen city, we might as well check out some fun stuff. Ker-chunk! And now we're breaking and entering... without force. I wonder how many crimes we commit in Rejuv. What a neat little room. Even has a pretty little wardrobe. Come here, you beauty. There's a bunch of cute stuff in this room, but not important enough to screenshot, really. I just don't get why they take the time to WRITE EACH OTHER LETTERS when they're in the same laboratory and they clearly communicate for work purposes. Also, why do they literally write emojis on letters? ... Although... That was certainly something. Anyways, on to the mission at hand. Isn't that just below a black belt? Pretty impressive, but unfortunately IT'S FUCKING IRRELEVANT SINCE WE'RE FIGHTING OUR CRITTERS TRY TO RED BELT MY MAKUHITA YOU IDIOT (I'm half inclined to try this when I actually have 50,000 pokedollars) That was a pleasant fate. I'm as low as a Xen grunt now... Oh all the sufferings and sacrifices my mother went through to keep me alive. She will be so proud. How come you don't get transported to the Pokecenter like me? Anyways, time to get the fuck out of here. YARGHHHHHHHHHHH I really need more for the effort, but whatevs. You be petty, game. Or NPC. Her highest mon has around 5 levels on me, so... I'll wait till the level cap is 30. This is quite depressing tbh... she seems like a sweet girl. Oh no, not at all! (What a refreshing change of place from the usual assholes I meet.) I honestly thought his name was Kiki the first time I played. A fighting type gym leader who is also a sensei... just seemed about right. (the swablus are so pretty) Altaria would be fun to use... Thank you. If everyone was as civil as you, we wouldn't have nearly so many complications. I'm so glad we team up with her in future battles. Her lead is a Hawlucha and it hits like a truck. There was a tiny bit of sass I detected there, Aelita. But I'll let it go since you were so nice to me. SO I have. STOP. With the riddles. But really what's with the self-deprecation in this game It's either absolute arrogance or absolute self-pity, never the middle ground You don't really seem to set a good example. Which is surprising since the majority of the folks here were pretty nice. Ouch. Guess there's always an asshole in every town in this game. Looks like he has some weird kinks as well. I wonder how many sex tapes he has hidden... Now this is genuinely sad. Generally, I don't like the forced sadness Rejuv employs, but there's something about this scene that makes it authentic. LMAO I love this guy (yes I just called him an asshole a little while ago) There's something about Keta that just radiates wisdom. Granted he does make some questionable decisions but you can tell that the source of his cynicism is experience. He's calling out Venam and Ren for needlessly dwelling on the past and that is something I firmly believe in. I hate to bring morality into debate here, but regretting and guilting yourself over a decision you made in the past solves nothing. It only builds up negativity and makes you lose your purpose. Yet at the same time, I don't understand why he fails to take his own advice and just whines away in despair over the past. (although he does try to fix it) That's... again, up for debate and depends on context. I won't get into it here. I would be very happy. Oh he means Melia I would expect it to be, especially if it's called "Amethyst" Maybe it's a portal to the Reborn region Thanks for the advice, Keta But you don't need to tell me to explore places. It's practically how I make my paycheck ... At least in-game I have not Or I have forgotten my memory is quite poor you see Well better get to that I wish I could get some Moomoo milk but unfortunately we need a weekday for that. Ah well Oh dear god IT'S A GHOST!!!! What sort of region is this... I can imagine. Really? He looks super guilty tbh He hardly seems soulless from my encounter with him. At least when he was took his hood off I can the efficiency behind it, but yes it doesn't solve some long term problems I guess here is where we feign surprise? *gasps* Indeederino. I just want to beat the fuck out of trainers, man. Where is this plot even going But at least we got our temporary objective. You mean rekindle his emotions or something? This whole thing makes no sense. Huh. Now while this interaction tries to explain Keta's character, it doesn't really do a fantastic job of it. For one, if this is truly Keta's emotional self, he'd be a fucking trainwreck, not this calm, composed individual. Especially if it's ALL his emotions channelled into this. It's the logical self in a human being that harnesses and controls the emotions to proceed through life effectively. But somehow his emotional self is the more logical counterpart, which does not make sense again. Logic and emotion are two distinctly different characteristics in decision making. Emotion is what gives you motivation to progress. Logic is how you actually do progress, or at least to a certain extent. The characterization for these two split individuals are off and I would re-write their personalities entirely for this to make some sense. It's not easy to delve into mysticism without making it seem somewhat unbelievable, so when dealing with things like this, we have to be careful when writing a story. SHE DEAD Good riddance (jk come baaaakk Melia) ... Ah goddammit I don't have the strength to go through that cave again LOOPHOLES if only transport were so easy I don't think that's how the proverb goes... What is "incredible" though? What annoys me is that how forgettable these moments are but these are probably important foreshadowings and references to something that'll happen in the future. Isn't that a pity LET'S BATTLE! Oh yeah gimme that That's the most classy way of saying let's battle I've ever seen... but you're on, old man Well he read my mind. I think he's the best character yet, even though there is some work to be done with this split personality thing. You better not go back on your word, old man. I will not. For long. Ayyy Taelia... Aelita *shrugs* This really explains a lot, too... BUT LOOK I love me some evos Me very pleased. Yes I am. I have great convincing skills I don't even need to talk for people to get convinced, yanno IT'S A GYM BATTLE! Why would I take it easy on him?! Everyone senses something's up Does anyone know the amount of trauma I WENT THROUGH?! DOES ANYONE EVEN ASK?? Now the first time I played this, I didn't expect to win, so I just wanted to glance at his team to go through his strategy. His Breloom and Hariyama both have access to Smack Down, which anhilated all the flying types I hit. My lack of Intimidate crippled me greatly, and by the time I got to Lucario, I was solorunning with Hariyama. I won the first try with sheer luck and RNG thanks to a bunch of misses and crits from my side, so I decided to redo it with some changes to my team. I guess now's as good as a time as any to build up a little team. (I should remember this is Intense Mode) Now to counter Keta, the strategy I developed was to use my two intimidate mons... Luxio and Arbok. However, neither of them have Intimidate currently, so I'll have to breed some or use another strategy. Eventually I came to this decision: I still needed Sucker Punch on Arbok to make it as viable as possible, so breeding was a chance I took. This little guy is the child of Geronimo and Kaa who've been eyeing each other a lot lately. And yes, he does have Intimidate (Btw, this is a great way to level up any of your underlevelled dark types) Anyways... the team I'm using for Keta is: Malorie would one shot this gym if she had Calm Mind... Anyways... Now is the time for our showdown. The initial Intimidate worked, both mons targetting Sammy (after The Rock first suffered a Fake Out rendering his Fake Out useless. Super annoying). I glare with Sammy on the first turn on Breloom, and sweep him off his feet with a Poison Sweep. Pignite is up next. Time to get Rudolph in the game... Look at him taking hits like a champ. I only realize how powerful Rudolph is when he starts taking hits. One Bubblebeam takes care of Pignite while the Rock Knocks Off Hariyama's something berry HOOOOOLY SHIIIIT I really need to use that to my advantage And I did. I fucking love this starter. Unfortunately, Throh is faster than Hariyama What a perfect world. Now's as good a time as any. HA But seriously, Malorie can't take hits for shit Malorie goes down here, while Rock cleans up Throh. While Sammy reduces Hitmontop to virtually nothing. I'll need another one to take down that Lucario. Outsmarting the Reborn/Rejuv AIs has become a pastime of mine lately... I think we win, guys. Only lost two mons up till now (3 once Bun faints right now) That's an oddly positive thing to say... That is dirt cheap tho (Who is he talking to right now?) Of course. We're gonna be at Lvl 25 for a while, guys. So no Luxray for a while. Oh good gracious These people really need to do their jobs better... While I get some rest as well. But before I sleep... Thanks for reading! Next time, we're gonna head into a waterfall for whatever reason.
RedAlert
So V12 crawls slowly upon us. Update that this run hasn't been abandoned for anyone still interested. I've been pretty busy with studying for my GRE and a temporary job - hence the delay. The greatest Pokemon trainer ever will return.
