Chapter 2 Post-Map

 

As mentioned in the OP, Scarleticia Castle is a famous landmark within Caliss, and definitely one of the most well-known places in Southern Caliss. It was built a little over 200 years ago during the Caliss Imperium's 'Bastion Age', when the Emperor at the time had enacted a series of 'Steel Gate Policies' enforcing internal growth, particularly martial, in preparation for a possible skirmish against the City-States to the north with whom Caliss had some bad blood at the time.

 

Scarleticia Castle was built as the premier defense point in the south against the City-States, and boasted the foremost technology and construction prowess of the time. Designed and constructed by a continent-renowned architect and stone-mason, the castle was the south's pride and joy for many years before Antei reached its current glory. It still continues to be a point of pride for many, even after it fell out of use as a war fortress. Some time later, Fort Duha was built further to the north, and Scarleticia Castle lost some of its cultural standing as a fortress, instead becoming the permanent living quarters of the General ( of Caliss' Five Imperial Generals ) who was stationed in the Antei area. Though it's been renovated multiple times by its various masters over time, and made much more luxurious and comfortable to live in, Scarleticia does still remain, at its heart, a war fortress, as exemplified by the many dungeons, turrets, and strategically placed passageways and walls that still remain in use. Now it also boasts many of the more modern amenities of life, such as multiple studies and one of the largest libraries in southern Caliss ( which has a renowned private collection larger than even that of Antei's ), as well as war rooms that have been largely converted to banquet halls and ballrooms. Some Generals of the past have given the castle something of a tourist air to it as well, hosting historical reenactments and allowing visitors to tour public sections of the grounds, though Milich Oppenheimer has decidedly not been one of those, and he has been in command of the area since just after the Liberation War.

 

Additionally, any PCs who have deep involvement with Caliss' military or strong ties to that might have heard very occasional rumors about the Oppenheimer household having a legacy of some kind of rather unsavory practice involving cultivating a secret kind of weapon or task force. The rumors have never been brought to light and no further details are known, but to these PCs, learning about the situation of the laguz in Scarleticia wouldn't be out of the blue.
