Fire Emblem on Forums: The Lost Lands

Once, the dragons ruled the world. They were gods made flesh, beings that could not be harmed or die except by the claws of one another - no sword could cut them, nor bow pierce their scaly hide. Humanity was beneath them, their servants and slaves. For a time none can measure, this was the way of the world. To the oppressed it seemed as if it always would be. Until the intervention of the White Dragon.

 

The White Dragon was different from her brethren. Unlike the cruel and greedy drakes around her, she saw something in humanity. It is said that she could see the future, and her place in bringing it about. She gathered four heroes, one from each of the four kingdoms, and granted them the power to fight back - the power of magic, once known only to the draconic races, and the power of the Fire Emblem, forged from the White Dragon’s scales.

 

Each of the heroes returned to their nation, to raise their armies and overthrow their masters. Meanwhile, the White Dragon journeyed with her followers to the Eastern peninsula of the continent, to battle her brother and the most powerful of their species - the Black Dragon.

 

The four heroes led their armies to victory, with the powers bestowed upon them - humanity, for the first time, was free. When they quickly went after the White Dragon to assist her in her fight, they found that the peninsula was simply gone, vanished without a trace, bringing with it the last of the dragons.

 

In the aftermath, the heroes were elevated to monarchy over their home kingdoms, and renamed after them - Opus, Emries, Kahla, and Pax. Since then, while the nations have fought and bickered, there has primarily been peace - no sovereign feels they have the right to overthrow another.

 

But now, a millenia later, tensions brew. Pax’s ruler, after coming to power from the suspicious death of his father, has warred on Kahla. Emries has withdrawn from the world. The king of Opus is frail with age and heirless. Soon, the fragile peace may break, and the world return to violence unknown since the age of dragons.

Welcome to my attempt at a Fire Emblem On Forums game! I’ll be your host, Twinwolf. Most of you guys know how this works. The rule changes will be below, followed by the setup and nation information.

Rule Changes. Generally nothing major - just look over the general changes, and from then you can just look at what applies to your own character.

 

Spoiler

 

General:

-Sleeping units always wake up when hit.

-People who use staves/performances auto-equip a weapon if they have it in their inventory and can use it.

-Affinities will be randomly rolled, with two options for each character. If neither choice is agreeable they may reroll, but they must stick with the new one.

-Automated Weapon Rank Progression: When you reach Level 10 in First Class, you choose one subcategory, either already ranked or from general category, and it gains 1 Rank up. The same happens when you reach Level 10 in Promoted Class.

-Points placed into HP during Character Creation are worth 2. ((+2 HP for 1, +4 HP for 2.))

 

Character skills:

-Guard is not restricted to supports

-Stillness is axed

-Provoke is axed

-Center/Imbue (Free): changed that they cannot restore more than 50% of a character’s max HP in 1 turn.

-Discipline is removed as it will be added to all characters.

-Parity does not remove the effects of Weapons or Carried items on the user or their foe.

-Saviour, in addition to its other effects, gives the user +3 to Aid.

-Vantage now triggers when below 50% or lower HP instead of speed. It remains Cost.

 

New character skills:

-Aegis(Free): When suffering an attack from, Bows, Hidden Weapons, Tomes, or Dragonstones there is a (Skill+Lck)% chance to reduce the damage dealt by half

-Desperation (Cost): When making an attack, if you are < or = 50% hp, you may make any followup attacks immediately before your opponent counterattacks.

-Pavise(Free): When suffering an attack from Swords, Lances, Axes, and Monsters, there is a (Skl+Lck)% Chance to reduce the damage by half.

-Rend Heaven (Free): During an attack, you have a (Skl+Lck)% chance to deal damage equal to half your enemy’s Str or Mag Stat based on the type of weapon YOU are wielding. (lf using a physical weapon, calculate with enemy’s Strength. if using a Magical Weapon, calculate using the enemy’s Magic. Weapons capable of both use the stat that targets the same defensive stat as they do.)

-Trailblazer (Free): Penalties for moving into forest, desert, deep snow, and hills tiles are reduced by 1. No ill effects from Weather are suffered as

 

Class Changes:

-The following changes for Performers: https://pastebin.com/gB7GC2sQ

-Armored becomes: Add 2+10% Defense DR. Ignored by armorslayers. 

-Archers may not take Arc Shot from specialized training

-Bandits do not have Raid

-Fencer: Sneaking may not be used if there is impassable terrain between the two pillar tiles the fencer is travelling between.

-Knights may choose between Swords, Axes, or Lances, rather than be restricted solely to Lances. 

-Mage: Meditate is replaced with Precision Strike: The character with this skill may choose to make an attack at -2 DAM and +20 Hit. An attack made in this way cannot follow up.

-Myrmidon: +1 Con and Aid so they're not gimped into using barely any weapons.

-Pirate: Do not have Raid. Rapid Strike is removed. In it’s place is Opportunist. “Gain +20 to hit against enemies that are suffering from ailments or 50% or lower HP”

-Soldiers do not gain WTA against mounted units. Other aspects of Anti-Cavalry remain.

-Troubadour bonus progression is reduced to 5%

 

-All Cavalier promotions have the same choice of preferred stats as Cavaliers

-Cavaliers can choose between Swords/Lances and Axes/Lances

-Assassinate is changed to: On a critical hit, the character with this skill rolls for critical again, with the chance capped at 40%. On a second critical, the enemy is reduced to zero HP. Certain enemies may be immune to this skill.

-Great Knight gains the following skill: Weapon Mastery: While the character with this skill is equipped with a weapon of a higher class than their opponent, +2 DAM and +10 hit/eva

-Heroes do not gain Charisma. Instead they gain Inspiration: +5 Hit and +5 Eva to all allies within 3 spaces of the character with this skill.

-Inquisitor: Miracle has a chance to activate before Benediction, rather than after.

-Mountain Warrior does not gain Sack.

-Nomad Healer: Medicine Man costs are changed to: Vulnerary-200, Concoction-500, Elixir-1000

-Samurai: Instead of bonus crit chance based on magic, Samurai receive +10 crit under 50% HP. Musou intervals are 15 HP instead of 10

-Sniper skill is restricted to Arc Shot.

-Summoner is replaced with Dark Rider.

-Dark Rider Class Skills are as follows: Horseback/Dismount/Canto, Walking on Air (same as Mage Knight), and Lifetaker: When the character with this skill deals damage in excess of their target's current HP, this character recovers 1/2 of the difference.

-Swashbuckler: Perfect Balance is changed to: Triangle Master: If the character with this skill suffers WTD, both combatants are treated as if using neutral weapons. If the character with this skill has WTA, resultant bonuses are doubled and the character gains +10 crit for the combat.

-Warrior: Rough and Tumble is reduced to 3 spaces of 3 enemies.

(Note: while some nations have tendencies to certain classes, it is by no means required to be from the relevant nation to that class)

Opus:

 

Opus is the nation to the grassy and wooded southern end of the main continent, with its capital of the same name on the bay of Opus. It is renowned for its diplomatic efforts, attempting to maintain peace in the land, although when it does come time to fight it has stalwart soldiers and pegasus knights in abundance. It’s recently been having some border tensions with Pax. The king, Chrysus, is the only one of the current rulers still directly descended from the founding heroes, as other lines have died out or been ousted from rule, but is frail with age and lacks an heir. Trouble comes the way of Opus.

 

Emries:

A nation on a large jungle-filled island not far from the shores of Opus. Since its inception, the seeking of knowledge, scientific or magical, has been one of the most honored pursuits and it’s mages are respected worldwide. It is also the premier naval power, for its own safety largely. It no longer has a single royal line, but several that rotate their rule each ten years. It has become increasingly isolationist in past decades, but there are murmurings in the populace that this will not stand for long.

 

Kahla:

The mountainous nation of the North, the Kahlese are a tough people, by and large nomads, but for their capital. They send their youths out into the world upon reaching maturity, and they may only return when they’ve either spent ten years in the world, getting experience, or when they’ve accomplished a great deed. Rather than a unified rule, each nomadic tribe has their own system of government, which meet in the capital, also named Kahla, each year. They’ve been fighting raiding parties from Pax for some years now, with their expert mountainous troops and wyvern riders.

 

Pax:

The land of Pax is a mixture of grass and desert, between Opus and Kahla. They are a culture that values honor and skill at arms, with military service respected above most other careers. Their ruling line is fairly recent, after the overthrow of the decadent rulers two centuries prior. The old king was wise and respected, but he died under suspicious circumstances leaving the throne to his young son and regent. The nation has made aggressive moves against its neighbors of late, things that may provide the spark to set the world ablaze.

 

 

Magic Lore

Learning magic is one part studying, one part natural talent. The magic passed down by the dragons is a willful thing, coming in a variety of forms. Light magic is the magic of the gods, passed on by the White Dragon. Dark magic was stolen from the Black Dragon, and bent to the will of man. Anima is a purely human invention, harnessing the elements after centuries were spent researching the other two types.

 

 

Religion:

There are a few religions in the world, although none are officially supported by government.

 

The dominant one, the one that has a temple in every village and town and city, is Dragonism. They believe that the White Dragon and Black Dragon were dual gods, one of prosperity and peace and one of decay and war. Most individuals of this religion worship the White Dragon, to bring them it’s blessings. However, some believe that it is the Black Dragon that must be given offerings such that it stays away.

 

Apart from Dragonism, there are 2 other major religions. The Cult of the One, which believes in a single, all-powerful deity, who often takes human form so as to better empathize with his creations. This is mostly worshipped in southern Emries and by some nomads of Kahla.

 

There is also the polytheistic religion, Mana, which, while a minority, worshippers can be found everywhere. They believe that there are hundreds of gods, each with their own power, and every living person is protected by one.

 

 

Who's the cast?

The beginning cast of the prologue will be troops of Opus on a fairly important, and covert, mission for the crown - while the reason is classified, it is in Aica, a port town near the border with Pax. This will be six individuals either of Opus or who have reason to be in such a party.

 

Chapter one will introduce  four  individuals with reason to be in this town.

 

I think I’ll have 10 players, but may decide to increase to up to 12 later. Later characters will be brought in as makes sense for the plot.

The time for decisions has come! All the sheets I've gotten were good, which sort of stressed me out because it made it so much harder to decide on which sheets to take! In the end, decisions had to be made, as much as I wish I could take all of the sheets (and in fact, I decided to boost the player count to 12 due to the number of sheets I enjoyed).
