The idea of making a Pokémon fangame's always been in my head. It wasn't until I was bored, randomly spriting a couple of fanmade (and poorly made) Mega Evolutions until I thought to myself-- I think I could make my own game... And from there I got RPG Maker XP and Pokémon Essentials and got a bit carried away. Now, this game was previously a project called Pokémon Silicon. Unfooooortunately, the project files ended up getting corrupted, so a large portion of the development had been lost.Of course, I still had a few of the maps, as well as the sprites, so I did not completely throw away development. And theeen I looked back and realized something. My plot was terrible. It was simple, and was far too vague until it needed to not be. It wasn't as much gripping as it was flat. So I toyed with a few ideas before settling on the current plot and expanding it. Heck, I even had the great idea of merging the two games. I mean, I had a few great concepts and ideas. Why would I just let them all go to waste? Now there is a fangame with two regions with an overarching plot for the both of them. Oh, and 16 badges.

You awaken in a steel prison, without a single memory besides your name.

With the help of a few others, you are able to escape this mysterious place. You are thrust out into the Lotta region, where you must figure out the mystery behind your lost memories, as well as the mysterious group that captured you.

Things are about to get a lot more complicated.

Rivals:

"Could you please move aside? I have to do something."
kc8GGx9.png6Fy9Vby.png
Emma
A mysterious girl who seems to recognize you. Toward most people, she is cold and calculating, and to very few does she show her true colors. Has a bizarre monochrome Riolu that she is able to communicate with.

"Sorry I'm late. I got lost... Again."
jIcq0ev.pngQensZtH.png
Len
A simple mayor's son. He's rather awkward, partially due to his lack of social interaction. While he does sometimes do some rather foolish things, he does mean them with the best of intentions, and does have a deep care for his friends.
"Yeah. Well. I don't really care."

3EzgYCS.png6NQZQVR.png
Colby
A rather rude and brash boy from Quartz City. His brother is Craig, a gym leader, which combined with many other factors results in a grouchy persona with an inflated ego.

Gym Leaders:

Lotta:
"Sorry kid, but you can't spell Windy without win!"
XnKP6qG.png4MIsShK.png
Windy
Type: Flying
This leader of Opal City always has her head in the clouds. She enjoys the feel of the wind in her face, and as a result is frequently away from her gym and home city. Also capable of a bit of electronic tinkering.

"The spirit of the music runs in my blood, man..."
P2fkOve.pngedivGFh.png
Craig
Type:
Rock
Craig is the most popular guitarist in all of the Lotta Region, and resides in Quartz City. He is almost always relaxed, even in times of extreme pressure. However, a good battle can easily get him worked up.

"Look, we may not get along too well, but when we do, we are truly a force to be reckoned with."
2C7265l.pngRdcHga7.png
Blitz and Alec
Types:
Fire/Electric
These two brothers run the gym in Citrine City. Despite all of their bickering and complaining, they are not allowed to have separate gyms, as their parents specifically demanded that they have to work together. Blitz is very loud and hot-headed, while Alec is cool, collected, and intelligent.

"I see the way ye are lookin' at me. Let me guess. Ye think I'm a pirate."
btvq2Nc.pngzaOsqHm.png
Jack
Type:
Ice
This Ice-type specialist was once the greatest sea captain the world had ever seen. Unfortunately for him, a rather rough encounter with a legendary Pokémon has left him with only one eye. Yet he does not let that keep him down, as he sometimes still sets sail and explores the seven seas. Of course he has no depth perception, so don't complain if you crash.

Eolas:
"Wow, I, like, totally am soooooo super excited for this! I have, like, been getting ready all day!"
CgdQe3v.pngsaoG9p9.png
Elexis
Type:
Electric
Elexis is a supermodel from Ionad City in Eolas. Throughout the city she is practically worshipped, and has dozens of groupies following this electrifying model wherever she goes. If she skips you in line, please, please keep your mouth shut.

"The darkness if welcoming... It is a blanket of soltitude... Once you learn there is nothing to fear, the night is like a mother's embrace..."
qqNpVLR.pngj5nkecY.png
Grayson

Type: Dark
Grayson is a quiet introvert that lives in a mansion atop Scath City. He specializes in Dark-type Pokémon. He has a twin sister by the name of Athena, yet they have had shaky relations for years. He is the former headmaster of Blackrose Academy, an incredibly wealthy trainers school

"The strong fight, got it?! If you just sit around and let them kick the crap out of you, what good are you?!"
F0fbkFp.pngiliw4bB.png
Judie
Type: Fighting
Judie is a martial-arts specialist from Briomhar City. Having inherited her father's dojo, she is naturally a skilled fighter. To everyone but her closest friends, she is very short-tempered and impatient, yet has a very strong taboo against giving up.

"Nature is just so... Beautiful... Don't you think?"
RavdyyT.pngb8Qwgii.png
Rosie
Type:
Grass
Rosie is just a happy girl who roams the forest and bathes in flowers and stares at the clouds. There's always more than meets the eye.

Others:

"This is quite the bind we've gotten ourselves into."
Plz7a2Y.png1s2RSDg.png
Ravel
An ally that was imprisoned alongside you. Snarky and sarcastic, empathetic and able to keep a level head.
"Um... I don't think that's a very good-!"
"SHUT UP! IT'S BRILLIANT!""
86EeRAo.pngr9j4N2z.png
Alcina
A bizarre girl with a split personality. Alci is the more cheerful of the two, being overwhelmingly positive. Cina, on the other hand, is far more passive and shy, often afraid of most things.

Two Electric type gym leaders and two fire type gym leaders? Why aren't the twins fire and ice?

The cafe owner seems a little bit too much like Chili just from his occupation and type.

Fighting type gym leader is literally a copy of Maylene.

Cliche af story.

I don't like having so many new types to adjust to.

The sprites look pretty good. Hopefully in game will look nice as well.

Some of the megas look pretty interesting too.

This game already looks pretty polished compared to some other ones I've seen. I'll continue to check back to this topic.

This game already looks pretty polished compared to some other ones I've seen. I'll continue to check back to this topic.

1) The twins are Fire and Electric because Magmortar and Electivire. The two separate gym leaders are left over from a failed attempt at a different fangame.

2) Yes. As someone who picked Tepig and last played Black and White in 2014, I can't say I remembered him too well, but eh. He's got just a little bit more to him. But eh. He's got more to him.

3) I'm gonna flesh her out a bit more, of course. She's got more personality than those two sentences I put there. May rewrite it. Who knows.

4) Yeah. Definitely. The beginning feels almost too overboard. I feel like I perhaps may need to tone that back just a tiny bit. Some characters are going to be time travelers still because I actually have some relatively strong subplots that aren't cringey that I can have split off from this , but still.

5) If it's any compensation, I am veeeeery likely going to remove the Magic Type. The whole reason I went through with it was because I had a couple of move ideas, and this game was once going to have Fakemon, but considering the lack of retypes and the lack of a Gym Leader/Elite Four or any story purpose, I'm probably going to scrap it. Definitely going to keep Light and Space, though.

6) Thank you. The game uses 4th/5th gen tilesets, as well as the super wonderful Elite Battle System. Overall, I'd say the game looks decent. The whole reason that I don't have screenshots, though, is that I keep changing up the maps because a lot of them aren't satisfying me too much. I could take a picture of the battle scene but eugh. I don't have anywhere near enough events together. I'll may update with some this week.

7) Thanks as well. My spriting skill has improved significantly just by randomly spriting megas. Some designs may end up being hit or miss, though. My art skills are like throwing darts at a dartboard.

Finally, I managed to sort of get my act together and get together some decent stuff.

First and foremost, I do have screenshots, and with those come the confirmation that I have finally managed to get Following Pokémon implemented. Luckily mej71 managed to get together a plug in and play Follower script so that my lack of scripting ability does not make it impossible for me to add the feature. I made sure to update the credits to include a couple of people I forgot.

Also, Magic type has been removed from the game. Compared to Light and Space, there was much less I was able to do with it, and considering three types is a bit much, (two is stretching it even) I felt it would be better to cut it. But I did add a couple of more retypes to each type.

But on the bright side, I did manage to get some rather decent redesigns in for a couple of the trainers.

Judie

Old:

RQSmMsr.png

New:

F0fbkFp.png

Original was just a Fighter girl recolor, honestly. The new sprite is spliced and more original overall. The VS portrait has remained the same. Complete with biography rewrite.

Emma

Old:

TpU254H.png

New:

kc8GGx9.png6Fy9Vby.png

Honestly much better, even without the VS portrait added. Obviously a Roxanne recolor, and a really meh one at that.

Windy

Old:

mWd2VvE.png4bX4hKk.png

New:

XnKP6qG.png4MIsShK.png

Seriously feels much better. Took a bit to make, And even if the sprite is primarily based on Clare, it just looks so much better than the old one, which was almost a complete recolor.

Your new types seem a tiny bit op... I mean come on..3 immunities and a single weakness to its own type + resisted by nothing? Sure, it's "space" type and some future stuff but still

p.s. nice rework on the sprites

Looks nice I hope you continue with it. By any chance do we have a release date?

Eventually. That's all I can say. I do not work on this at a consistent rate, and I may get more done on some days than others.

Also, I'm definitely going to rebalance the Space type. I personally find Light to be well-balanced enough, so I'm unlikely to tweak its chart.

Alright. My luck is very, very amazing, so the next logical step was to have my hard drive become corrupted.

My reborn save nooooo

So yeah. That's been the main reason for the lack of updates or anything.

I thankfully managed to save a large portion of the Trainer and Mega Evolution sprites, due to a lot of them being posted online. Unfortunately, a few trainer sprites and at least 15 Mega Evolutions were lost. Luckily I only lost of couple of the better Megas.

*sob* Why Bisharp, whyyyy?!

Anyways, I'm not giving up on this. It would probably be a crime to at this point. Just consider the development period to be extended indefinitely.

Alright, I got development back on track. I've got quite a few maps done and looking great, I have multiple new trainer sprites, and I've managed to remake quite a few of my lost filed.

I have quite a few updates here.

  • Two more playable characters have been added.
  • A third rival
  • The plot has been revamped once more
  • Burnard still exists, but he's switched spots with someone else.
  • More Megas have been added to the list
  • The Light and Space types have been rebalanced, hopefully for the last time.
  • I've listed a few other plot-relevant characters.

But there is one feature I'm going to add which I am particularly looking forward to finishing:

  • Unique NPCs

That's right. Every NPC is going to be unique, save for a few exceptions. You won't be seeing Youngster Joey clones all across a route. Now, you'll see a wide variety of people with different appearances and personalities. Some NPCs will even be able to expand their role in the game further after you defeat them on a route. Others will even travel across the region just as you do. Each one has their own goals, interests, and journeys.

Will this require a lot of sprites? Yes. Will it be worth it? I sure hope so.

This seems pretty cool. I can't wait to see how this game progresses. I would like to make a suggestion for one of the Gym Leaders-Alec, specifically. I'm personally not a fan of him and Elexia both being Electric type Gym Leaders. Based on Alec's personality snippet of being "cool, collected, and intelligent", it seems to me he'd be better suited as a Psychic type Gym Leader. While they use a Magmortar and an Electivire, it comes with the assumption that they may not be fought until later in the game when the player could have access to a good Ground type with Earthquake and completely annihilate them.

I disagree on the Psychic idea, personally. Personality doesn't always necessarilly translate to typing used, and plus I created these two to be foils of eachother. And also Alec is tech-savvy. I can understand the dislike toward the idea of two Electric type gym leaders though, but luckily there is a bit of space between them, as Blitz and Alec are the third (forth?) gym leaders fought, while Elexis isn't fought until later on.

That being said, I can't believe I didn't think about the whole Ground type weakness. I'll balance it out in some way. They were going to have Magmar and Electabuzz, as well as some other stronger Pokémon, so I can understand the confusion. Yet there is a bit of space between gyms, so... I'll probably just bring in a couple of Pokémon that are immune and can counter a ground type, as well as perhaps attaching an Air Balloon to one of their Pokémon. Or maybe I'll see if I can figure out the whole Field Effect system and perhaps create a terrain to up the difficulty a wee bit? I dunno. I haven't figured out how to make it work. But regardless, thanks for the criticism. It's super helpful.

I've gone and revamped my maps for the fourth time. Ugu.

l2pVwh6.png

This is the new and improved Jade Forest. Ignore the tiling errors. I've long since fixed them.

There's probably a few too many tree types here, as I was getting the hang of my new tiles, so luckily I've cleverly retconned Jade Forest to be the only place with such a wide variety of life. Other maps won't have this many different trees. I'll update the credits with the new tilesets soon.

The only real downside to making the maps look this good as that it takes much MUCH longer to map them. But it's probably worth it. Better to make a good looking game that takes forever than a horrible looking game that has amazing gameplay

Anyways, I've been considering removing the new types. They're a nifty little gimmick, but don't really fit in the story and were just kind of added for the sake of being added. But I added a poll just in case.

In other news I'm going to be buffing some of the weaker Pokemon. Particularly Mightyena, who as of right now can be considered the weakest of Defiance's starters. Nothing too drastic, just a 10 point buff for a lot of the weaker 'mons.

This looks very interesting, one small suggestion.

Since this game will involve time travelers, why not a time type to replace/balance out light?

Oh... Uhhh... I actually removed the time travel plot.

Silly me. I didn't even realize that I forgot to mention that on this thread.

I look forward to this game! :D Two questions:

Will there be non-binary protagonist in this game in the future?

Will there be a wild pokémon location list provided for this game?

There will probably be a non-binary option in the future. I'm not sure if it will be in the first release, though.

An encounter list will definitely be provided, though. However, it probably will not list some of the secret areas.
