Is Easy Mode easy enough to do a Mono-Type run?

I tried to do a dark type run on Normal and somehow made it past the Fighting Gym, but the third gym is just too hard with its terrain. -

I really hate when legendary pokemon get thrown around like candy. I prefer the opposite extreme where catching a legendary is an utterly ridiculous, almost sacrilegious, concept. I also hate frequent fake yes/no choices that actually just make you pick one answer.
