  1. Started a new game after a year of absence. Boy, did i get rusty.

  2. Thanks again. I know about Hippodown, Politoed and Tyranitar and the danger they pose against my team. I'll try to switch Ninetails for Rotom-H and Camerupt for Life orb Infernape. however the minimal speed stats on Torkoal and Camerupt where pretty nice against a Trick room strategx one oponent tried to use. YES! YES! YES! Groundwork for an argumentation. I have not seen anything 2HKO Torkoal, that wasn't boosted in any way
  3. Soooo, Thanks for the answers. First: Yes, this is a competitive monotype, as it has a few things in it that are not currently available in Reborn. Yes, indeed, I did not get a Volcarone from the egg, but instead was blessed with a Drilbur which gave me the much needed advantage over Corey. And also yes, I do have a Typlosion which I run on my Reborn mono fire team as a Fast Special sweeper. I don't have the TM for Earthquacke, which I either missed or did not have the chance to get yet (I am currently residing at Agate Circus) Ooooookay... First, I don't find it offensive in any way. keep it going, as this might be a big help, even if it hurts to let some of my favourite mons go I'll read this again a few times and decide try some of these out in a secondary team, to see how it rolls. However I do know of Heatran and that it outclasses Torkoal in any aspect, BUT I actively decided against Legendaries, as I just don't like the whole concept of them (sounds stupid, but I can't help thinking of an overconfident 9 year old when I see legendaries in competitive battle) I'll try to overcome it, if I feel the necessity. I am not that sure about the sun, because it is mostly there not because of the 50% boost (Most opponents get OHKOed by a super effective move of any of the mons), but because of the Solar beam. At the moment I am thinking to switch back to Infernape as my scarfed revenge killer/physical sweeper. I just overlooked the Mach Punch when I first set up a build. Fake out and scarf are not really good friends. as a matter of fact I will look into Rotom-H, another mon that just slipped over my head probably because of my long absense of the Pokemon world. Same goes for Darmanitan. I did decide aggainst Emboar, as I remember it to be prettty slow from my current reborn playthrough, albeit his Reckless ability paired with the huge pool of recoil moves make it to be a force to be reconed with. Soo, lastly, I'd like to ask, if you may like to post some sample builds. I am mainly interested in the builds for Darmanitan, Rotom-H and Infernape.
  4. As a kid I always wanted but never had a Charizard. My first yellow edition got stolen, my second (which I bought on a flea market) broke after serge and I never had anyone who'd trade me one to my Crystal version. So guess which I picked
  5. Well, the Title says everything. Basically this is my first competiive Team that doesn't get oblitterated by everything that it has to face. I just wanted to see, how I'd do in a competitive battle and created a Team losely using the HO Tread as a basis. I somehow ended up with a Monotype so I thoght "Hell why not?" and tried it. Next came some fiddling and twiddling and piddling and this is what it currently looks like. I am not entirely satisfied, so I hope for some suggestions. Mega Flare: The Idea: Well, Basically, what does every Fire type like the most? Right, when It's nice and warm. So Drought Ninetails will make the sun shine while offering some supporting moves from its diversive movepool Now to the main force. Quiver Dance Volcarona and Mega Charizard-Y both have a disastrous Special Attack while offering a nice variety of moves. Also Mega Charizard-Y too has the Ability Drought to keep the sun from setting when the battle lasts a little longer (He's like the Snickers of my Team) So, A pretty solid Special Attacking force, but Oh No! What if I run into a special wall? Well, That's what Arcanine is for. Access to a nice Variety of Physical Moves and a solid Speed make him not only a good physical attacker, but also a great revenge killer. Extreme Speed helps a lot with the latter. Now with the offense taken care of it's time to think about the defense. Because of the Team being all fire types, Stealth Rock is a pretty dangerous thing to have on your side of the field. So we need a defogger or rapid spinner. Because It is crucial for me to always have Stealth rocks on the other side of the field however, I have to go for Rapid spin. And there is no other Fire type than Torkoal, that can learn it. Now to the last Pokemon and the one I feel the most unsatisfied with so far. Camerupt is pretty bulky and has a good Sp Attack. It also learns the Move Stealth Rock, Earth Power and Flash cannon, covering a good amount of weaknesses, while at the same time being pretty resistant to the common counters for fire types. Analysis: This is going to be bad Sheila (Torkoal) (F) @ Leftovers Ability: Shell Armor EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD Sassy Nature IVs: 0 Spe - Stealth Rock - Lava Plume - Sunny Day - Rapid Spin Usually being the Lead, setting up Stealth Rock and (if taken damage is low enough) Sunny day, before Rapid Spinning away the opponents Hazards. with a still not to underestimate special attack she is able to do some massive damage to some spin blockers while tanking theirs, forcing them to switch out and then spinning anyway. Vixi (Ninetales) (F) @ Heat Rock Ability: Drought EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def Calm Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Flamethrower - Will-O-Wisp - Solar Beam - Hypnosis secondary lead and support she goes in first against Teams that are too dangerous to let them set up. With Drought setting up most of what I need and Will-O-Wisp to cripple physical attackers and Hypnosis to sleep the target her main objective is to give Volcarona time to set up one or two quiver dances. Also perfect lead for setting up against water type monotypes, because of the Sunny Day, Solar Beam combo. Dorn (Charizard-Mega-Y) (M) @ Charizardite Y Ability: Solar Power EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Air Slash - Fire Blast - Solar Beam - Dragon Pulse The Mega of the Team. Fast Special sweeper with Fire Blast and Air Slash as STAB moves and Solar Beam and Dragon Pulse as coverage. probably the most straight forward in the whole team. Mothra (Volcarona) (F) @ Life Orb Ability: Flame Body EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Modest Nature - Fiery Dance - Giga Drain - Quiver Dance - Hidden Power [ice] There is not much to say about Volcarona: Con: She needs one turn to set up with quiver dance Pro: after that she just burns through enemy teams like a Flamethrower through paper. With Fiery Dance as a strong STAB move that further boosts her Special Attack and Giga Drain to restore the HP lost through the Life orb it is difficult to get around her once she got the tempo up. HP Ice is a nice coverage ove to deal with nasty dragon types and Flamebody hopefully cripples any Revenge killer that managed to hit her. Rexy (Arcanine) (M) @ Choice Scarf Ability: Flash Fire EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe Jolly Nature - Extreme Speed - Close Combat - Wild Charge - Flare Blitz Choice scarfed Physical sweeper/revenge killer. Extreme speed guarantees that he'll outspeed even the fastest opponent. Urmel (Camerupt) (F) @ Passho Berry Ability: Solid Rock EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA Modest Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Earth Power - Lava Plume - Stone Edge - Flash Cannon Camerupt. Nice bulk and a good coverage with stone edge and flash cannon. the Passho Berry along with Solid Rock pretty much guarantees her to survive switching into a strong water type move. Export: Treads: Sashed Dragon Dancers, amplyfied by the ability Moxxie. Azumarril with sap sipper, Aqua Jet. probably some more, that I am not too well aware of, because of my inexperience. Well, I'd really like to hear, what you think and how you would improve this Team. I still don't know how serious I want to get into competitive play, but I had fun so far. Also, like I said, this is my first competitive Team, so please go easy on my noobish ass.
  6. As much as I can see how Unown can be labeld the worst Pokemon, I somehow always found it to be a unique quirk in the Gen 2 games. It is (as far as I know) te first Pokemon to have different appearences and I kinda liked the Alph ruin puzzles and all the mistery surrounding them. Also they where practically used to demonstrate the Move Hidden Power. No, which pokemon I truly despise would be Dunsparce.. sure, It's Stats are not that terrible and It's move pool isn't either, but seriously, What the frick is this thing? why does it have to be that ugly? I mean, Garbador will never win a beauty contest, but this thing has at least some visual qualities to it. But Dunsparce is just so...vacuous... There is one thing for a pokemon to be ugly or competitively awful, but to be mediocre in any way is what makes you forget it ever existed. that is why Dunsparceis imho the worst Pokemon that ever existed
  7. I still don't get what's so funny about confusing this with the search bar

    2. Zephyrus the Priestess

      Zephyrus the Priestess

it's actually not that funny; just that it's happened so often that we all take it as a running gag of some sort

    3. Raindrop Valkyrie

      Raindrop Valkyrie

It's mostly just a running joke at this point... because almsot every new person here does it somehow... I don't know how What's on your mind? Conveys search bar rather then you know... the bar that says search in it... but people seem to be draw to it like a magnet. It's more a fascinating phenomenon at this point then funny lol.

    4. Zephyrus the Priestess

      Zephyrus the Priestess

the funny thing, personally, is that I didn't even notice that the status bar was there when I was new, so I didn't know how to make a status update as opposed to the common newbie mistake of confusing the status bar with the search bar.

  8. Well, honestly I don't think this question deserves it's own thread, but since I could not find a Q&A Thread here it is. Well, with this out of the way, here is my question: If I use common candy to decrease the level of a Pokemon under a certain level on which it naturally learns an attack, will it try to learn the attack anew whilst leveling up, or does a once learned and forgotten attack be forgotten forever? Example: A Charmander leveled up to lvl 19 and accidentaly overwrote it's Dragon rage with scary face. will feeding it 4 common candy (lvl 15) and then leveling up to lvl 16 again trigger the learning of Drago rage? Edit: Answered by Njab
  9. ...there are no words on this world to tescribe this...O.O Me want!
  10. So you mean to tell me that the cake is a lie? o.O (really missing my crying smiey again...)
  11. Einen guten Tag aus dem Niederrhein. ^^ I am new here myself, but still I wish you a very war welcome to this community that I myself have found to be quite warm and welcoming well, just...uhm...become the very best, I guess,
  12. my favourite Songs are prone to change a lot. at the moment I' chose: 1. Genesis - Land of confusion 2. ERB - Freddie Mercury vs Frank Sinatra 3. I fight dragons - Pretend 4. (because scew your only three) Herbert Grönemeyer - Mensch (WARNING! German) Honorable mentions:
  13. Again, thanks very much, I'll use the spoiler function the next time I have to answer so many posts. So anyone can just read what they want and the post won't be too long. as far as showdown goes...for now I'll just try to get ito the new types and all around mechanics before trying to build a highly specialized team. I'll just grind a bit more and build a different team for every Gym.
  14. So many welcoming posts! Thank you so very much for the warm welcome, I love you, all of you (where the hell is the crying smiley, I want my tears of joy) Well, I thought point 1 and 2 as mentioned with: "only 15 Types" and " nonsense like physical and special moves". but hey, I really forgot to mention that Pokemon evolved into Digimon and that Ame hates me (why? (again, where is my crying smiley?)). Bulbapedia is my ticket to making this game playable, as I have no Idea what most of these Attacks are, even when they are from Gen 1 or 2. let's just say that the translation into german was a bit free. Also the Pokemon names can be a bit tricky as I had a little conversation with a (also german) classmate today, that went like this (words that are not translated from the original conversation are in " ") Me: I was pretty surprized about "Kricketune". I never had Bug-Pokemon on my radar so far, well maybe for Butterfree on Brock. Guy: "Kricketune"? Me: Oh, sorry, I don't know the german name, the game is english. Guy: Can you describe the appearence? Me: well, It is red, Posture reminds a little of Beedrill, has long antennas and kinda two Scythes Guy: No idea what you are talking about Me: Delelelelelele Whooooop Guy: oh you mean "Zirpeise" (german name of Kricketune) Thanks for the offer of help, if needed. i might need a few Tips on the third gym, But I'll try some things first, before asking. Though, however easy the Nintendo games where and are, I'll never despise them. They are the Heart, the Bones and the Muscles on which this Game here is based on. Ame May have made this game a bit more inteligent (yes, ame screwed with Pokemons brain...I should stop these metaphors) and changed its outer appearence (skin), but the Soul is still the same. Well, again thanks for the offer to help out on behalf of all the forum members ^^. Well, I have alredy read the rules and used the search bar a few times, but still thanks for mentioning it. I have absolutely NO idea on what the showdown server is, but I'll look into it when I have the time. As to getting caught up, well, Pokemon always was pretty addicting to me, so it is only natural that I enjoy a game I always liked with this brilliant little twists and tweaks that Reborn has. And last, yes, I think I will enjoy my stay Finally someone who got the core message of this text ^^ also thanks for te nice tune. I kinda have my metaphorical day today, I hope it will be over soon and I certainly hope it is not contageous. Yeah, without Bulbapedia open at any time (to check the type of the next foe) I would not even be able to play this game. And even with bulbapedia I am rather surprized about how I was able to beat Flobot (yes, forgot her actual name) first time with only 3 of my Pokemon fainted o.O Aww a theme song just for me ^^ thank you. Though I always liket Big Shows theme more, bach in the day, when I still watched wrestling...dang thats a long time that has passed since then... _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I am positively surprized about the warm wecome and the many friendly people out here. It is not in many places on the internet, that one can find this. I was looking for a new fandom, after the last one had slowly turned into a massive corpus of whining attention wh...ell and people abusing the kindness off those who still lived up to the former core of this fandom. I am positive that this here might be a place for me to stay, at least for some time ^^ dang, I know why I wasnt that active in Forums lately...all this typing... like no one ever was, guys and gals! Cassius PS: I really should find out how to use the spoiler option...these long posts even get too long for me...
  15. ...and there where only 15 Types. Also we had none of this nonsense like physical and special moves, the Special Attack and the Special Defence where one stat called Special, there where only four types of balls, no abilities or natures. We did not even know and care about stats IVs and EVs...heck, most of us could not even read at all when we picked up our first Game of Pokemon. But that Time is long gone and, as good at it was, it is also good to see how much this beloved Pokemon Universe has grown since the pretty bugged and (visually) ugly first Gen. My back story with Pokemon: I am one of those people who laid down Pokemon at a certain age. For me it was when the third Gen had just started. It did become more and more unpopular with my classmates and because I already had not the best reputation I did not want them to have another thing to tease me about, so I started doing other things. I still played my Crystal edition from time to time, but I never really bothered to keep up with the new stuff that appeared on the market. I did not really bother picking up another Pokemon game until I finished school and went to University. But then there was another problem, where do I start? I had none of the handheld Nintendo consoles newer than the Advance SP. So I looked around a bit and played a bit of Gen 1 and 2, emulated a bit of Gen 3, and stopped playing rather quickly because it was nothing new and I had more interesting stuff to play. I however tried to get at least a little up to date by watching some youtubers who talked about Pokemon on a regular basis. Then, almost 3 years later, I saw a post about a fanmade Pokemon game on an image board. After checking it out and asking Google, I ignored all the warnings about how hard and unforgiving it was and just dived in. Needless to say I was about as prepared as an ancient Roman Soldier on board of a landing boat headed for the Normandy on the 6th of June 1944 with no knowledge exceeding the existence of "guns". Well, just try to imagine someone who has never bothered to delve any deeper into Pokemon than "Fire is strong against Plants"...that's me, hello. Me, myself and some things that make me me: Well, enough of that now, I am a 22 year old engineering student from Germany who enjoys all kind of (video) games, Western and eastern (japanese) animation, I do read a lot of fantasy and sci fi, but I am also well informed about current developments in natural science. I do some sports, mainly endurance sports like Running (Street and trail) and Biking (Street and Mountain bike), but also archery. I also have somewhat a passion for Roleplaying, be it in any single player RPG, online in chatrooms (does anyone still use that name?) or at the table with friends. My Favourite Types are Fire and Flying, which may derive from me being, as long as I can think back, always fascinated by anything burning and/or flying. I am (hopefully) funny and don't take too much seriously, which makes me a somewhat silly and quirky person (my mom calls it "not acting my age"). I am also quite lazy when It comes to tasks that need to be done, but I really enjoy a challenge, if the topic or medium interests me. I always try to be nice and friendly, but due to some lack in social communication skills I tend to use wrong wording (amplified by english not being my first language). So please don't overrate any unluckily harsh statements, as I probably did not mean it that way. anyway... I have registered into this online Forum because I hope to get to know the Pokemon fandom, get some help about all the stuff that happened in and around the Pokemon universe in my absence and also just to meet some people and maybe make some friends (a crucial information at this point: yes ladies, I am single ) Well, before this thing here starts exceeding the bearable dose of even the most patient reader, I will conclude this thingy here now, by quickly throwing it through a spell check and posting it ^^ Have a great day and thank you for reading, May you one day become the very best, Cassius
  16. Today I learned that, sometimes, achieving a desired goal may be worthless, if you did not choose the exact path that was wanted. Or in other words: Screw you programming class and screw you sorting algorythms
  17. Still pretty eary game, but I am very positively surprized by Kricketune. Fury Cut and Sing made the second Gym far easier than expected. Though my Ace at the moment would be my Charmeleon, as it hits pretty hard with dragon rage. I am very curious, as to how my Team will develope.
