  1. Tsubasa blinked. A stinging on her eye was all-too-familiar; a trail of red had forged its way down the left side of her face, coming from a cut she'd narrowly avoided higher up. Focus. The swordswoman took a deep breath, brushing away her perception of the burning lines on her body. Defensive stance. Her blade pulled back in a smooth motion, aimed to deflect another incoming strike. Pivot. Using the momentum from the previous attacks she'd endured and turning it about, she planted one foot forward. Flow. The blade flicked forward, as if it had been wreathed in lightning itself, and carried the Slayer with it. Second Form, use Reaction to use Fifth Form targeting Icarax Yin: 1>6 Yang: 4>1 -2 Breath
  2. A small part of Justine was grateful for Kane's interruption, even if it was dire news. The performer had been, uncharacteristically, looking quite embarrassed before their leader's abrupt appearance, though she had done a fair job of maintaining her expression. Kane had rescued her from her internal debate over whether to confess her part in the making of the stew. "It doesn't matter how it happened right now. The faster we act, the less harm is likely to come to them."
  3. "Sure! I have a few things in mind that I've been wanting to see used in some of our meals, and I'm eager to help prepare one with them." Justine beamed as she set off toward the pantry, already drawing up a list of ingredients and spices in her head.
  4. "If you're putting food together, I can help. It's been a while since I've gotten to try my hand at cooking something other than lyrics up." Justine moved toward the erstwhile trio, perking up a bit at the thought of something productive to do. "Everyone else usually insists on cooking for me."
  5. "It's good to hear that you're prepared. We could use a smiling face or three; the events lately have exhausted at all." She glanced briefly at Baldur; his lapse hadn't gone unnoticed.
  6. Justine looked after Kane as the man left. It was obvious the man was off balance, but she wasn't sure if she could do anything about it. She wasn't exactly balanced herself; worries about Ferdiad, her sister, her greater family had gnawed at the edge of her consciousness during the wait. "Do you two actually know what joining this group entails? Kane has a point; this is not a small endeavor, and associating yourselves with us is to enrage half the continent."
  7. Spray's words were far from comforting. This was, indeed, a shadow of what she'd warned him of, and that made it all the worse. "I will take my leave, then." She forced herself to look forward; it would not do well for a goddess to walk along with eyes downcast in shame. Mitsurugi wanted to say something about heeding advice given in good faith, but she couldn't promise to avoid driving herself this hard again. She hadn't lied earlier; Mitsurugi feared she would disappear entirely, or worse, if she could not complete this task. A fitting end, I suppose. From nothingness they came, and nothingness they shall wreak upon the final remnant of my world, as that remnant fails its duty once more. She stepped toward the mirror, heading back to the castle.
  8. The storm within the goddess calmed as Sakuya spoke to her. She blinked twice; on the second, her eyes were their normal golden hue and free of any divine glow. "I . . ." She looked at Spray, then looked down at herself before stepping back with a muffled look of horror. Her gaze flickered up to Maxwell's with regret before it returned to the ground. "You are correct. I have stepped too far in my haste." She slowly bent at the waist, giving the man a bow as deep as she could stomach with her tattered pride. "I have moved in excess. Though your actions were out of line, mine were further so." Mitsurugi turned to Sakuya, and gave her a similar gesture. "I apologize to both you and Amaterasu for my actions just now."
  9. The punch caught Mitsurugi off guard. It hurt, in her weakened state, and she'd been unprepared for an attack. The goddess made a choked noise as the wind escaped her lungs and she stumbled a step back from the impact. Unfortunately for Spray, he wasn't, in fact, dealing with a purely physical being. He received no chance to finish his departure. Thunder cracked overhead as she seized his arm, a grip like iron threatening to break it entirely. She ensured that he could see her expression alight with indignant anger, her eyes glowing a sinister amber. "Maxwell Schiff. Your insolence will be your undoing." Her voice echoed with howling winds. "You have transgressed upon not only my divine authority, but dared to physically assault me as well." Her head tilted back slightly, even as her eyes narrowed. "Prostrate yourself, beg, throw yourself on my forgiveness, and your ruination may be forestalled." She let go and shoved him backward with a strength wholly out of scale with her size, watching him stumble with imperious expectation.
  10. Mitsurugi slowly turned to face Spray; she could almost have been mistaken for calm if the seething anger in her eyes hadn't been boring into Spray's skull. "Do not deign to speak to me like that, ye of little faith." Her existence seemed to exert a force in and of itself, pressing down on the medic. . . until the thunderclouds in her eyes dispersed, anger falling back to melancholy. "My life is a promise, my existence trust. If I cannot hold myself to this, then that oath goes unfulfilled, and my existence is all but forfeit." The golden orbs turned downward. "A guardian spirit who can only destroy. That is what I am; if I must be destroy myself to keep this land safe, then so be it."
  11. "Rest?" Genuine surprise echoed in her voice. "I am a guardian spirit, here to bring ruin to this land's enemies before ruin is brought to it." Mitsurugi shook her head. "I will find rest when the foe is vanquished and not before. To do otherwise would be dereliction of the already-cracked promises that define my being." She knew, of course, that the others were likely correct. She was tired, unbalanced, pushing the edges of her control. Already, she'd slipped, leaving devastation behind her. "I cannot abandon another land before it is safe."
  12. "It is indeed. A fortification that floats through the liminal spaces between worlds and takes us safely to each new one. I am not certain, however, how easy it will be to return." Her eyebrows drew a hair downward. "And I do not wish to leave this realm until my purpose here has been fulfilled." Mitsurugi turned back to Sakuya, awaiting her answer to the earlier question - as well as Spray's.
  13. "Teridax. That magic, use it again." Any worry she had about the dark power slid off her mind, focused as she was on the battle ahead. She saw the path forward, a path for her to flow naturally into victory - all she had to do was provide enough power. Taking a deep breath, she rushed Icarax, throwing a powerful and almost unnaturally quick shoulder tackle at her towering biomechanical foe. Then, almost as if it were the same movement, her hand darted to her blade. Fourth Form on Icarax, then use Reaction to attack with First Form for 2*(4d6+27) damage! Yin: 0 -> 1 Yang: 2 -> 3
  14. "I see." That was interesting. Unanticipated, if not entirely surprising now that she'd been told. "It is good to know that the return journey will be easy, once we've purged this land of the demons threatening it." It may be safer if I left now. Can I really leave such a task as this incomplete? She glanced over at Spray for a moment, before electing to not discuss him further. Humans tended to be offended when other people, especially divine beings, spoke of their incapability, and she had little opportunity to see the man's true strength. "Is there anything else you or Amaterasu wishes to tell me?"
  15. Mitsurugi "The journey has been. . ." She faltered. The journey had been rife with demons. Rife with challenges to her skill, her power, and her very being. Rife with tensions between herself and the rest of the group, herself and this world she'd thought so welcoming, herself and the dark things she'd tried to pretend did not lurk within her breast. ". . . challenging. But we are making progress." Centuries of practice let her mask the unease in her voice, the fact that she didn't know what she, herself, was progressing toward. "Spray is woefully misunderstanding of the conflict which he has been suddenly thrust into, but his heart seems earnest enough."
  16. "Just be careful. I've learned not to trust 'helpful advice' from mysterious strangers if I don't have a way to verify it myself." Kusuke shot the book a suspicious look despite its innocuous appearance. "Doing what you're asked without stopping to ask how or why is the quickest road to hell."
  17. This could be really bad. She felt like she could still breathe just fine, but reality warping around them like this meant it might not last for long. We brought it, so I may as well. . . Reason and logic aside, it simply felt like the right decision. Tsubasa took the strange, powerful mask she'd been instructed with and placed it over her face. Just like wielding a blade. Clear your mind of everything but the flow. The calm will guide you to the cut as long as you are there to give it form, and give no thought to anything but the cut. The words didn't quite reach her conscious mind as she focused, but her master's teachings (before she became her own, of course) echoed beneath the surface. Tsubasa attempts to channel the power of the Mask of Time to assist the party!
  18. Mitsurugi The disaster goddess gave a polite bow to the mirror, despite the lack of a figure in it. It was deeper than her typical, one indicative of their equal, but high standing. "Greetings to you as well, Guardian of Kamiki. Meeting a helper of Ōhirume-no-Muchi-no-Kami herself is an honor, especially given the other denizens of this land we have encountered thus far." And a powerful relief as well. She wasn't sure what to draw of the vision the artifact had shown her. The eyes of Orochi were upon her, that much was clear - but was it a warning, or a sign that she could be saved? "Were you the one who sent that vision to me?"
  19. Mitsu A mirror. . . It reminded her of Amaterasu; the thing was likely some shrine to her. She doubted she'd leave her own mirror just laying about. . . but then, given the way her miko acted, perhaps it wasn't that far out there. A reflection of truth, and truth only. When I look into it, what will I see? Mitsurugi gave Spray a polite nod, before silently moving to gaze into the mirror, walking at a somber pace.
  20. Justine gave a slight nod before pulling herself in for a closer hug once again. She said nothing, instead simply relaxing against Arthur. All things considered, she was. . . surprisingly light. The dancer put most of her weight on the prince with a sigh, closing her eyes. She seemed content to stay where she was, taking slow breaths while nestled into Arthur's shoulder.
  21. The Streets of a Former Hell "Hell isn't a great place to hang out in, but I saw your little entrance over there. Even the evil spirits are smart enough not to mess with the gap hag." Yuugi thinks for a moment, placing her fingers on her chin. "Most of the oni aren't fans of humans - gee, wonder why - but they won't bother you if you don't bother them. And maybe if you're not an asshole, you could even makes a few friends." Muenzuka "So you're shinigami. Or, working for shinigami. And Joan is a human turned into a youkai?" At this point, she's completely upside down. "Well, I'm not a hermit, so you won't bother me." She drifts a bit further, vanishing from view for a moment as the orb ceases covering them. It takes a few seconds for her to realize this happened and start to float forward instead. "Don't tell the red-white one. She might hit you on the head. Or do." She looked at Dani for a moment, but said nothing further.
  22. "You're doing fine. More than fine. . ." she murmured, before she buried her head further into his coat. "I, er. . ." Just as quickly, she drew back - not far enough to escape the hug, but enough to let them see one another's faces. Justine's held a slight blush as she cleared her throat. "I'm really glad to hear that you'll always stay. Hope is hard to find sometimes, even for me, but I feel better with you around. Anger and all."
