Why not just take the already-finished sprites from Showdown

Not all of the sprites used on showdown are of good enough quality, not to mention that due to Ame having set up a patreon, they're going to be extremely iffy about it since Ame would technically be earning money off their sprites, and they've been iffy about it before with paypal and the rupee system on the old site as well, or at least that's what I've understood. Ame is free to correct me on this, of course. And not to mention that even though Showdown has sprites for the new mons, there's usually no backsprites available, so we'd have to make those regardless ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

However, this is basically why we have to use other sprites than the one provided by showdown. It's okay tho! Things are progressing smoothly and it shouldn't take too long until the graphical part is done since we're working on it with multiple people.

Four! Ame, Jan, Koyo and I are in charge of that. Ame does most of the front sprite cleanups and quality control, while Jan, Koyo and I do the backsprites.

Also, I wonder if a few of the leaders teams will be updated with gen VII pokemon? For example, Oricorio would fit in perfectly with Julia's team (because of the cheerleading stuff) and could quite easily replace her Emolga. Also every trainer should have an A-Ninetales because it's sheer majesty needs to be shared with the world.

Ame has said on her tumblr that Julia is definitely getting Oricorio. She also listed a few other possibilities although that's the only one I remember off the top of my head. I also feel like Alolan Ninetales would really fit Serra though, because of the beauty theme.

thank you for the praise~ actually it's closer to 1/3rd that are done but the spriting % also factors in the need for shiny spriting and egg sprites after those.

They'll most likely be integrated into the game at some point. Things are still subject to change as the game isn't done with development entirely, and that goes for content that's not new in E17 as well, so there you have it c:
