Spoiler

Suddenly displaced from where they had been before by a flash of white light, seven people found themselves standing on a circular stone platform in a purple void, unable to speak or move. They were spaced evenly around the platform, facing a stone pillar in the center. After what had to have been at least a quarter hour, the hologram of a woman's head appeared above the pillar. For each contestant it appeared to be staring directly at them. "Welcome, [Name]." To each it spoke their own name, "I am Abyss, I've brought you here to my land of Bullet Hell. You are here to fight in gladiatorial matches for my amusement." Abyss laughed, suggesting she was already amused. "Take note of the bracelets you're wearing." They found their heads turned to look at their wrists. Attached to each of them was a silver bracelet with a screen embedded in it similar to a digital watch. It displayed their name and a number. "That number is your Death Counter. Should you be defeated in battle, a number from one to six will be chosen at random. If your Death Counter is greater than or equal to that number, you will die. Otherwise, your Death Counter will increment by one. Be aware that the counter bracelet itself is only a display, the counter itself is an inescapable part of you now. So don't worry about the bracelet exploding if you try to take it off. If for some reason you do feel a need to remove it, you should take care to prevent it from being stolen. But don't fear it being stolen from your wrist, only you can remove it." Everyone found themselves returned to facing Abyss's floating head. "Some of you may have abilities that interact with life and death, or other abilities that function differently in this world. If you tap the bracelet's screen, it will project a display that present a basic rundown of your abilities." The head vanished and their was another flash of light, accompanied by Abyss's voice. "Good luck. And don't worry about when you'll be fighting, it will be made obvious when it happens."

When the white cleared again the group found themselves still on the platform, but now with no pillar, different surroundings, and the ability to move and speak. Waist-height walls surrounded them, except in one spot where a short staircase led down to a dirt path, which in turn led to a small town filled with stone buildings. At the bottom of the staircase was a stone marker, disturbingly similar to a gravestone, with two words carved into it. "New Arrivals." And on the ground with her back leaning against the marker slept a girl with long white hair that was tied with papery ribbons. She wore a discolored tan shirt and distinctive red pants plastered with papers similar to the ones in her hair.

(OOC:)

Spoiler
  • Seven people=the six PCs and Nibiiro
  • The info in your counter bracelets is largely fluff about your abilities but it does make note of your Death Counter and Energy, both of which are canon
  • What you were doing before you got flashed to Tonono's intro cutscene is largely up to you, there are two restrictions: Nobody else can have been around to see it and you must have been on your feet (standing/walking/dancing/etc)
  • Holy shit I finally found a character that can have that song as their theme. Hooray

The Sheriff looks at the other people, his machinegun pointed toward the ground, smoke still rising from the barrel after offing that big bandit. He was half tempted to assume a more hostile stance but after a quick glance over the others holstered his gun.

"... I take it we aren't in the wastes anymore?"

Yuuki Terumi

At first, the last thing Terumi could recall was a sharp pain in his stomach, and his own voice laughing in his ears. Probably to be expected, and while there were other fragments of memories floating in his mind, those last two parts seemed to stick to him the most, even more than the fact that he was stuck in a room with 6 other people, and each one less impressive than the last, and couldn't move or speak. But why the hell did those two parts seem more important than-

"Be devoured by infinite darkness, Yuuki Terumi"

Suddenly, a single phrase was spoken in his mind, like it was answering his question, and soon enough, all the memories came rushing back. That damn little SHIT. Oh, how a combination of hatred, confusion, and slight disappointment filled Terumi, and if he could move any part of him right now, he would've been gritting his teeth and clenching his fist, probably cursing like a sailor at the rush of memories flooding into his head. That damn dog had gotten lucky before, and when it actually mattered, the dog's only saving grace pulled through and managed to nearly kill him.

But... Recalling the sensation of his body dissipating into the air, how the hell was he here..?

"Welcome, Yuuki Terumi"

Suddenly, a woman's head had appeared in front of Terumi, as his head worked to figure out an explanation for why he was here, and sure enough, every second Terumi was forced to listen to her speak was a second that Terumi's annoyance for her increased. Him, fight for HER amusement?! Who in the hell did this woman think she was, seeing HIM as a plaything for her game?! Terumi barely paid attention to the rest of her speech, except hearing about the Death Counter, but for the most part, he was a bit too annoyed and angry at this "Abyss".

And then another flash of light, with Abyss DARING to give him a "good luck", and suddenly Terumi was able to move again, stumbling forward and instinctively pressing a hand to his chest. Somehow, whole, not dissipating like before. Then, his attention shifted to the other 6 that were now moving as well, along with his surroundings, and he couldn't help but narrow his eyes in annoyance. Then, straightening slightly, Terumi began wordlessly walking towards the entrance to the town, pulling up his hood to cover his head, and ignoring the lessers around him.

Oh, he'll play Abyss's game. And by the end of it he'll show her what actual hell REALLY looked like.

Rei... really hadn't been doing much of note when something that would change her life happened. Honestly, how rude - she was literally just going to the bathroom! Could have at least waited until she was done. She'd been practicing this whole 'danmaku' thing - it turns out Oni strength + human magic = good at making a lot of bullets - and she'd needed to take a break as nature called. She'd just made it there, the world went white and goodbye Gensokyo, hello wherever the heck this place is. And Rei still needed to pee.

So the spiel was delivered and the half-oni and the other new arrivals released. She'd consider the implications of Miss Talking Head's words later. A quick glance and she found the stairs (not yet noticing a certain other horned woman), and she was off like a shot - she'd been holding it that whole time, so priorities. She hit the bottom of the stairs quickly and glanced around for some sort of place that would have a public restroom or someone to ask directions from or maybe a bush if neither of the first two were available...

Suguri SP

Suguri stayed mostly quiet after Abyss sent them on their way. She was a rather long ways outside her element here and it took a while to process. Her existence was created to defend the world, now she had been stolen from that world, so what was she to defend? It seemed her best option was to win fights and attempt to escape so she could return to her post. With that in mind, she didn't feel it would harm her goals to attempt to befriend some of those who had been brought here alongside her. None of them stood out as useful allies but a couple seemed dangerous. She looked down at the bracelet on her wrist, -1. If that was right and Abyss was telling the truth, then she wouldn't be able to die unless she lost at least twice. She might be able to use the fact that she could safely lose once as a bargaining chip somehow. Let an opponent have a win and they would owe her a favor. With all of this in mind, she decided her best option was to head into town and look for assistance from someone who was more experienced with this world. Thus, without saying anything to her companions, she started off towards the stone town in the near distance.

Rei

Rei couldn't spot anything nearby with the appearance of a bathroom and there was no foliage in sight. There was always the girl sleeping against the tombstone if she wanted to try for directions.

Getting whisked off was a somewhat unpleasant experience even before the fact that she'd apparently been magically kidnapped to participate in some crazy person's gladiator battles - not that the prospect of a fight fazed her overmuch, but deathmatches were a bit excessive - as she'd been in the middle of punching the ground for practice, seeing how much she could crack it. "Oh, for the love of - is this some sort of prank? By that gap hag, what was her name, she's supposed to love those things." She looked around the area. Creepy, really, no wonder nobody wanted to stick around - wait a minute, was that. . . ? "Rei, where are you running off to?"

The Sheriff blinked at everyone running off. Weird, there wasn't anything outwardly worrying about this place. Sure, there were mutants but if they weren't friendly they would have attacked already. Seeing as there was only one that had bothered saying anything he turned to her.

"You know that one?"

He was kind of glad that he got the opportunity to exercise his english. There's only so much trashtalk and Venusian one can take before going a bit loopy.

Terumi

After a few seconds of walking, Terumi suddenly paused, stopping in his tracks. He realized that he was rushing, and the last time he did that, he nearly died. What he needed to do was take it slow, plan what he needed to do, and act on it... And one of the first steps to killing that annoying bitch was to have a safety net to fall back on. While he could resort to his self observation, but that would start killing him after it's usage, just like before, and unlike last time, he doesn't have a vessel on hand to fall back to. No... He needed to remain anchored to this world, and without Rags to fit the bill, he'd have to start working on getting that anchor set up.

With that, Terumi grinned, mostly to himself, as he turned around, shoving a hand in his pocket as he walked back to where the 7 had been transported to. His target, specifically, was the man who looked exactly like a low budget cowboy, "Wait, you come from a place called 'the wastes'?" Terumi asked Sherrif, leaning forward as he did so. Then, he leaned back, relaxing his posture as his eyes moved up and down the outfit of Sherrif, "Well, you certainly do fit the part of 'waste of space'".

The Sheriff turned to eye the man up. Most people didn't just start insulting a guy with a machine gun without good reason or something in reserve bigger than that machine gun. His glance didn't reveal anything to impressive though.

"That's big talk from someone wearing a piss colored coat. I hope you just stole that outfit from some loons with bad fashion sense and haven't found something sensible yet, otherwise I worry for you."

Terumi

For a good second, Terumi's eye narrowed, his mouth turning from a smug, relaxed smirk to a frown, and then to a snarl. Clearly, that comment hit a mark on Terumi, and he didn't really appreciate it, "Oh you little shit, seems like you've got SOMETHING underneath that trash, don't ya?" he said, anger and contempt lathering his voice as he removed one hand from his pockets, "You know, if you really feel like dying right here, right now, I'm more than willing to grant you that wish. After all, why wait for your inevitable death when you can just get it over with right now?" Terumi asked, lifting his now free hand slightly, both eyes glowing slightly brighter as dark green mist started to fall slowly out of his cloak, "Well, what do ya say, trash?"

Obviously, Terumi either did not notice the gun this 'trash' was carrying, or simply didn't care.

Rei quickly turned around as she heard a familiar voice - Huh? She ran back up to the other horned person. "S-Shinobu? You're here too? Sorry for running off, I got grabbed when I was going to the bathroom and they didn't magically relieve that... and there's no bathrooms that I can see..." that bit was in a tone of almost utter despair. "...I assume you don't have any more idea what's going on than I do?"

Even one as dense as this poor fashion victim could tell Sheriff was smirking under his mask.

"Aw, what the matter? Your mommy pick those out for you and now you gotta defend her choices? Don't worry, I'll be sure that when we scuffle I don't get 'em dirty. Aw, but then she must be disappointed with you anyway. I mean, ya can't even man up and walk away when you don't have a responce."

Terumi

And as expected, this "fashion victim" was able to tell that Sheriff was smirking... and with that, along with the continued offense from Sheriff as well, seemed to make Terumi snap, taking a step back and lowering his head, and body, so it was about chest level with his normal hight, both hands grabbing the top of his head. However, while this could be told as a sign of pure, brain hurting rage (which it nearly was), Terumi's response was anything but pure rage. If anything, it was surprisingly calm, but still filled with seething hatred, "Oh, you'll be lucky if I don't get any of your blood on this" he stated. Then, he was back into a standing position, swinging both hands down and causing a sudden eruption of dark energy to fly out around him, hood flying off for a second before resting back to a normal position. Then, he was back to his original "relaxed" posture. The only difference was that now, only one hand was in his pocket, while the other was at his side... And the fact that both eyes were glaring at Sheriff, "Congratulations, you've officially made the top of my shit list, hope you enjoy it in your last moments of life you little shit"

The sheriff shrugs and steps forward... before being blocked by a blue portal looking thing. It quickly disappears, leaving no trace of the sheriff. Unless you were looking behind Terumi where a second portal had appeared near the steps. In that case one could watch him emerge before waving as he walked down to see what was up with the girl sleeping by a grave stone. Or maybe it was a memorial? Bah, whatever.

Nibiiro

Nibiiro watched as the two strangers, who were strange in many ways, went at each other with angry words. This was the worst. Not only had she failed her mission, she was trapped in this horrible place with these bullies. No... Please don't fight. She urgently wanted them to stop, but she had no way to communicate this. Instead she attempted to make herself less noticeable, but her nervous shuffling about actually served to have the opposite effect. Oh please don't notice me.

Terumi

Terumi, since he was ready to start trying to kill Sheriff, was able to react rather quickly to the sudden appearance of a blue portal. Specifically, once that opened up, Terumi immediately sprung forward, wrapping himself in that same energy he was emitting earlier, until he was basically a large snake head rushing forward towards... Nothing. Not even a second after he rushed in, Terumi suddenly screeched to a halt, spinning around as the energy around him dissipated, head snapping from side to side as he searched for that shit. His gaze did fall upon Nibiiro, long enough for it to be clear that he was considering trying to kill her just from being around, but his attention quickly went back to searching for Sheriff.

And sure enough, he quickly spotted Sheriff walking away, his rage growing even stronger at the sight, "Oooh, behind all that big talk you're just a little coward then, huh?! Well I'm not done with you yet, you piece of SHIT!" Terumi stated, a large ring appearing behind him. Not a second after the ring appeared, a torrent of dark green projectiles, shaped like snakes, suddenly flew out at Sheriff... And the sleeping girl.

The Sheriff glances behind him when he heard the other man yelling. And then he threw himself to the ground to get out of the way of the projectiles. He was rather miffed. Snakes as a theme? He couldn't have gone with something original? His train of thought continues for a few miles before he mentally conceded that he had no room to really talk. And then he realized that the woman was still asleep. That lead to him shouting.

"Hey lady, wake up!"

Before the spat broke out. . .

"Not really. You think the gap hag is playing some sort of joke on us?" Shinobu didn't seem particularly worried; confused, perhaps, but not worried. Rei would know that she took after her mother and by extension traditional oni values, which was to say that she rather enjoyed the prospect of a good brawl.

Afterward. . .

Shinobu watched the two start going at it, the guy in the coat - was he a youkai? He had the general feeling, if he utterly lacked the politeness - and the outsider with. . . that thing. Seemed like the two had gotten into a pissing contest that one of them was taking a little too far - and the other wasn't having. "Heh, time to knock some heads around," she said at a conversational tone to Rei, before shouting out. "Hey, you in the coat! Why don't ya try fighting someone who's awake and ready to throw back?" To punctuate her statement, she stomped the ground hard enough to send a shockwave rippling across the ground in Terumi's direction.

Terumi

Unfortunately for Terumi, no snakes came out of his ring. Everything up until the point where the attack would have fired went exactly as expected, but no attack occured. He just looked kind of stupid.

Nibiiro

Eek! Don't hurt me! Nibiiro's nervous panic peaked when Terumi glared at her. She called up one of her robots and attempted to fire a beam of energy at him, but no beam fired. She tried several more times before giving up. Giving up in this case meaning jumping over the wall and running off towards the town as fast as her little legs could carry her.

(OOC: I asked y'all to wait :c Attacks don't work outside designated fights. Bullets don't fire, magic fails, punches don't throw, etc.)

Looking up from his somewhat pathetic groveling, The Sheriff looks around. Seeing as nothing actually happened he stands and turns to Terumi.

"What's the matter? Can't get it up on top of everything else?!"

With the final taunting out of the way, he walks down the steps and pokes the sleeping woman.

Shinobu frowned at the ground and its evident lack of shockwaves or shattering. "Huh. . . Well, that's probably the second most disappointing thing to happen this week. And also not very funny." She continued to stare somewhat glumly for a moment or two before looking back up. "Either way, we'll have to settle this all later. Rei, you coming down the stairs with me?"

Akemi

Akemi swore he was in the middle of a performance -- of which, signature to his craft, all else would call a killing -- yet how did he end up there?

After being briefed by a single female head -- peculiar as it was -- he pondered on his current situation, deciding to acquiesce and make the most of it, despite his previous frustration of being interrupted. Brought here Akemi was, apparently,  for combative use of weaponry again -- excessively so, if to be like gladiators, fighting to the death. If he was to fight to appease, however, he would evince it as an art, not a sport. Was there any reward that would come to this? Would he be performing for a single face or a wider audience? Pride told him he had been chosen for good reason, but the artist was not one to give service without cost or compensation.

Putting the reasoning behind momentarily, he eyed from his mask the group of others -- five or six -- he estimated -- that appeared squabbling before him, a mix of chatter, noise and effort that ended in naught, for the most part. Gauche, as many a being from the vulgar, common crowd would be. Most of their attention seemed to be focused on a woman lying on the ground...dressed quite unfashionably in papery ribbons of any sort. Unfitting for a sleeping damsel, perhaps -- was she asleep or dead, or was she never alive in the first place, a doll or replica? He certainly wasn't interested in fighting his future adversaries before the appropriately allocated time. A men with a western-styled hat seemed to be attempting to wake the girl up...albeit in a manner that was quite uncivilized. He wasn't going to get an answer in the quickest way, he knew that much.

"Excuse me, but there are ways to awaken a lady without being so...rough," He regarded the Sheriff as approached the white-haired girl, apparently yet to show any signs of reaction, as he reached his gloved hand towards her neck in search of a pulse, "Or to determine if she's even alive to begin with."

Terumi

For a split second, Terumi blinked in confusion, wondering why he wasn’t summoning anything. Then, looking behind him, Terumi saw how his ring was in the air… Just not doing anything. How in the hell was that a thing? He was sure that-

Suddenly, Terumi understood, and on top of everything that happened not long before, the revelation caused his anger to only increase, as if it never had a limit. The ONLY explanation for this was that Abyss was somehow canceling his power… And making him look like a complete idiot.

For everyone else, they simply saw Terumi looked completely confused… Only to snarl and start walking forward, both hands now in his pockets as the ring quickly dissipated. There were no last minute insults, no death threats… Just Terumi finally walking past everyone, including Sheriff, without so much as a glance.

In his head though, he made a vow. He’d kill all six of those shits, including Abyss, by the time he was done here.

Mokou

The girl opened her eyes and looked around at the four still nearby. She seemed unimpressed, or perhaps just grumpy after being awoken from a nap. "Hmmph. Come on then." Was all she said before standing up and walking towards the town.

Suguri SP

Suguri paused when the little alien girl ran past her in tears. She considered trying to stop her, but decided against it. She looked back to search for what might have caused such a panic and spotted the man in the yellow coat who looked quite angry. She stood still and waited for him to pass. As she did she noticed the others attempting to wake the sleeping girl. Seeing as she was looking for someone more experienced with this world, it was probably worthwhile to return to the group if they were successful. Further, even if they weren't very useful, she'd have the easiest time befriending those she already shared common ground with. In the end, she ended up just standing and staring.
