[Day Six-END]Criminal Showdown! A Mafia-esque game

sailboat

Recommended Posts

Greetings everyone! Since Monsieur Divergent can't host yet, I, DeeEmZee will be the MC and host for this mafia-esque game. Anyone may join this game both new comers and past players alike. If you're not familiar with the game, I'm here to assist you so don't hesitate to ask me.

I. Plot

Spoiler

Year 20xx

The world is facing a crisis: scarcity of supplies. Whether it be oil, food, potable waters... all of these are mostly nowhere to be found. Anyone who have access to those found themselves to have more power than the rest. They control the prices, the government, and basically other people's lives. Most of them are now consumed by greed, anyone who wasn't were taken advantage off, have been drained off their powers, or just simply dead. Everything to them just feels like a game and other people are just disposable pawns because afterall, tons of em will be willing to waste their life for the slightest hint that they'll earn more.

Island Xyz

Area: 2,444 km²

total population: approx.800

Average life expectancy of people: 100 years

Technology: very outdated

Number of cities: 0 but some tribes occupying different areas

Nobody knew the existence of this island until now. The locals said, it was because of the protection of their gods; researchers said it was because the harsh weathers was always obstructing the area but due to global warming those weathers are long gone; conspiracy theorists says that certain countries were hiding the information until now in hopes they will be the only one to utilize it. Whether any of these theories are true or not the fact is the island is full of greenery, clean rivers, and according to some researchers there are tons of things worth digging up.

Some countries strive to take ownership of the island; some tries to send envoy under the guise of helping the people in the island; some tries to teach religion to the locals but all of them have one thing in common. They want to control the island's resources. While the locals and other countries are squabbling, the criminal underworld of course also starts to creep into the area unnoticed.

So how will this story ends? It is for you to play it out. ;)

II. How to Play this game? [What is Mafia?]

Spoiler

Mafia is a game with two factions: the uninformed Majority, which are the criminals in this game, and the informed Minority, which are the bounty hunters. The goal of those who are on the criminal side is to survive and be the last criminal to stand. while those On The bounty hunter side have to eliminate those criminals until their numbers are equal or higher. There are also other characters who pledge their allegiance on neither side and have their own winning condition.

There are two parts to a Mafia game: the Day Phase and the Night Phase. The phases alternate each other until one of the main factions meet their winning condition. This game begins with the Night Phase.

The Night Phase is where everyone may use their Night Actions to help/hinder other players while those 'bounty hunters' convene and pick a player to eliminate for that phase. This lasts for 24 hours.

The Day Phase is where the players discuss, using what they have, to find out who must be top priority to vote out and who does not, carefully accusing the right people. The players will also individually vote on a person to eliminate for the Day Phase as well. This lasts for 60 hours. (2days + 12 hrs I hope this will be enough for everyone to minimize last minute lynching :v )

III. Special Twist to the Game

Spoiler

THE MAJORITY ARE ALL CRIMINALS!

HA

GOTTEEM!

So allow me to explain the rules. The criminals goal is one thing: Be the sole survivor of this death match. The bounty Hunter side's purpose is to outnumber the criminals. The Neutral side has a different wincon of course.

To put a balance on everything I will introduce the hp, weapon system, armor system, and drop system. Oh and before I start a long explanation I want this one to get out of the way: kill visit has a higher priority than a role visit(unless its a roleblock visit cuz role block will still be higher) but if the role's visit has something to do with killing... then it will be considered as kill visit. Also, with kill visit being higher, it means if you died you won't be performing any action.

At the start of the game everyone has 5 hp and everyone will be given a chance to choose some weapons and armor as well.

Weapon system & Armor System

Spoiler

to simplify the explanation this works like rock-paper-scissors but in this case it'll be blunt, slashing, piercing. This will mostly determine kill priority specially if there will come a point of criminal versus criminal showdown. this is the priority list left side goes first:

slash>blunt>pierce>slash

Since there are attack types, there will be armors that resists them: the anti-blunt/anti-slash/anti-pierce. Resistance means the damage will be reduced by half and super effective means multiplier of 2.

Now since there might be a point that two criminals will attack using weapon of the same type, the armor will also help in the factor of priority adjustments which will go like this:

anti-slash>anti-pierce>anti-blunt>anti-slash

and in the case of they still have the same armor type... the priority will be determined by their name in alphabetical order.

to summarize:

first priority check: weapon

if weapon check yields same weapon type go to 2nd priority check

2nd priority check: armor

if armor check yields same armor type go to 3rd priority check

3rd priority check: name

if you find it hard to understand don't worry this is much more of a burden to the host rather than the player but tis useful to keep in mind.

Special attack:

poison- this has the highest priority in all attacks. It only deals .5 neutral damage. Its effect however is continuous that it deals .5 damage per night and persists for 3 nights.

Drop System

Spoiler

When you go out for a kill you must also choose if you wanna obtain their weapon or armor. If you land a killing blow, you will have the opportunity to obtain either the weapon or the armor currently equipped by your target on the time of their death. Meaning even if they have a stash of weapons... it won't matter. You'll only obtain one... unless your target doesn't wear anything in which case... you won't be obtaining anything. Also, the drop distribution happens before day phase and it won't be revealed if they are barehanded until then so most players will only have a choice to pick either obtain the weapon/armor blindly.

Lynching

Spoiler

Unlike normal lynching on mafia game, lynching here deals damage. It deals 5 hp x damage where x is blunt/slash/pierce/poison. Everyone will have a chance to vote on the method of lynching. Theoretically it is possible to survive a lynch. If you guys choose a method of lynching... that method will go cooldown for 2 days meaning you won't be able to choose it until then the start of the count is the next day after the method was used. However poison can only be used twice the whole game and cooldown still applies.

Regeneration

If you survive a day phase and your hp is not full, you will regen 1 hp.

IV. Roles, weapons, and armor - All your actions are done at night phase. you must pm them to me

Spoiler

Criminals- Unlike normal mafia, the criminals here won't know each other but one thing is for certain: they are the majority. Their goal is to be the sole criminal standing while other criminals and the bounty hunter team are dead.

Spoiler

Serial Killer

  • abducting-you can entrap someone. They will be immune to outsider attacks. You will hit em with (blunt/piercing/slashing) and a +1 bonus damage. They can dodge the +1 bonus damage if they will claim a role aside the trap master of course.(you cant abduct the first night)

waiting forces your traps to cooldown for 3 days

abducting forces your traps to cooldown for 2 days

performing no action lets you reuse all your traps immediately the next night

Looks like: a criminal

Street Rat

Ability: can tell if the one they visit is a criminal or not.(this can be separate to a kill visit) when the street rat manages to kill his target, he will obtain both armor and weapon. If he didn't land the killing blow but still the target died at the time of his attack... He will still obtain whatever drop wasn't chosen.

You can spam visit them to keep up the disguise but be reminded that your visit is not separate to your kill visit.

Bounty Hunters- The so called 'good guys'. On top of having their own perks, they will also be able to talk with each other and they can share their equipment with each other however, only one of em can attack each night and if they do, they won't be able to perform their night action.

Spoiler

Bounty Hunter

Ability: In your travels You learned how to use any guns proficiently. You can double tap(attack twice) a target (only usable twice in a game) you don't like reloading bullets meaning if you're holding a gun, and even if you switch to something else it wont get reloaded. (to reload a gun used by the bounty hunter somebody else must equip his gun first then not use it which kinda wastes a turn... or is it?) if the bounty hunter wants to reload by himself... he isnt allowed to attack and he must equip the gun first.

+.5 piercing damage for every bullet you fire from a gun. Once through out the whole game... You can fire a full salvo on one target. When you do, everyone will automatically know you.

You can't choose to ask for gossip on the same people for consecutive nights.

You can sell weapon or armor in order to obtain more correct gossip.(meaning instead of one it will be 2 correct gossips)

1 role exclusive= +1 correct gossip

3 none- role exclusive= +1 correct gossip

have: none

has a chance to choose: 2 items

Looks like: 3rd party

Decoy

Ability: You are the trusty sidekick of the bounty hunter. You can either misdirect attacks to the bounty hunter to somebody else or you can block anyone from doing anything.(You can't misdirect on consecutive nights) You are also guaranteed to survive a killing blow once throughout the game.

Have: smoke grenade

has a chance to choose: a weapon

looks like: A Bounty Hunter/ a criminal (if you look like a bounty hunter the BH will look like criminal vice versa)

Neutrals- The people who have different agenda  than the other two factions. They are both allowed to choose 2 items

Spoiler

Witch Doctor

Ability: Charge for a ritual. You must charge 2 times then (1 night) perform your ritual. It is not necessary to charge on consecutive nights. If you got attacked while charging... your charging will get interrupted and your magic will run wild and deal 1/2 (ignores immunity)damage to your attacker(s). You can also choose to attack but you wont be performing a ritual. if the ritual is successful... Everyone will be poisoned except for the witch doctor and immune to poisoning roles.

looks like: 3rd party

Wincon: Perform your ritual without dying.

Cult Leader

Ability: each night can visit someone and brainwash them to join the cult. The initiation deals .5 damage against the new cultist(ignores immunity and resistance) and after joining the cult they will look like 3rd party(only the manipulator and Bounty Hunter is immune to brainwashing). However, the cult leader will not inform every members who are the other people in the cult.(the cultists do know who is the leader but not their other members. no chats for them as well. In case the cult leader brainwashes from the bounty hunter faction, they will be removed from the bounty hunter chat.)

The leader is the only one who can recruit. If the leader dies... the cultists should strive to survive until the cult wins. If the cultist dies what will be seen in their role will be cultist.(Their original role is impossible to be known unless the manipulator already visited them at night.) The cultists will still have the original perks for their role.

V. Rules

Spoiler

  -     The Reborn Forum rules apply here.
  -     All Discussion must be kept here in this thread. Private PMs, discussion outside the thread through Discord, IRL, or other methods are not allowed as well. Only the mandated bounty hunter discussion is allowed.
  -     Per Day Phase, everyone is required to post 2 times. At Night Phase, the thread is considered locked and no one must post in the thread. Violation means immediate elimination.
  -     Sharing of PMs from me is not allowed. There will be consequences if found out. Ruining the game is not fun :(
  -     For voting in the Day Phase, use this format ELIMINATE - [Player Name] Lynching Method - [Attack type]. Place it in bold. Votes can be changed throughout the Day Phase, as long as you notify me properly. Abstaining is allowed by posting ABSTAIN, as long as you don't do it on consecutive Day Phases. Missing two votes will mean instant elimination.
  -     If you are ELIMINATED, you have a final post, which must not reveal critical information to the game. Afterwards, you will be disallowed from posting again, except for when the game ends.
  -     Night Actions should be sent to me in PM.
  -     Editing of posts is discouraged. If you wish to have a change, quote your previous post and say the appropriate changes.
  -     Lastly, respect the host and the other players. Personal attacks on others will have their own repercussions.

Questions will be entertained through this thread, or through PM in the Forums or DM in Discord. Roles will be distributed when there are enough players, and the game will start afterwards at a designated time.

Register by commenting 'I'll be joining' below. 15 slots will be accommodated for this game. The game will start when there are 15 players already or after 7 days, whichever is faster.

That's a lot to take in but I'm interested in joining

Don't worry the burden lies mostly with the host. when the game starts you just need to arm yourself with reasoning.

I rebalanced serial killer. Also, in case the drop system doesn't implicitly implied it, you are allowed to switch equipment anytime when you have something to switch in to. That is if  you loot from the one you 'eliminated'. Well you can also go around naked. I mean i don't judge :D

[Day 1]

LykosHand woke up to a commotion outside his camp. He went out and a few locals where asking him did you kill him? But unfortunately he has no idea(?) what they are talking about. He went there to investigate himself and he found out that [Greninja] is dead. He observed his body and saw a gunshot wound at the head and a pierced neck. Awhile later, some experts decided to check the body and they learned that the cause of death was the pierced neck and the gun shot wound was just added later. The tribe heads take into custody 6 suspects. It is customary for the locals to kill anyone who kills someone or something in the 'Holy Forest Agsatha' where LykosHand was camping and if no one will be offered one of the suspects shall be killed instead to appease the god who resides in the forest... And the 6 suspects were LykosHand, Monsieur Divergent, paul25, Jace Stormkirk, Megagun, Another Retired Shipper.

Day phase is now open it will end after 2 days and 12 hrs till then feel free to discuss whom you guys are planning to lynch.

Personally, I think that we should lynch the most dangerous role, I suppose. Practically, I think that the most dangerous one is the Serial Killer. We might have to roleclaim if needed.

@Another Retired Shipper Are you claiming that you're the Street Rat, based from what you said?

'A man who had no reason to die' - not necessarily, I'm sure at least 2 of us here attacked him Night Zero. Did you perhaps attack him?

I can guarantee to everyone I did not attack Greninja as I had my mark on someone else.

Role claiming this early is kindof killing the game don't you think? Though I do fully agree the serial killer seems most haneous.

Well, have to agree with that. I won't be revealing my role yet, but I'll be soft claiming that I am not the Serial Killer.

Let's perhaps spice this up a bit by casting a temporary vote.

Eliminate - S. Paul

Lynch - Pierce

i have done some in depth analysis and the only way that greninja could have died in one hit is if he got hit by the serial killer and he used piercing  damage (extra damage) and greninja had the ninja scroll ( takes extra damage from piercing). and as for who shot him well. bad timing and could be almost anyone (unless it was street rat then he would have got whatever was left if any) and i agree with megagun since this is a ffa revealing roles is pointless cause some roles like the juggernaut has weakness to piercing and everyone would exploit that.
