Greetings everyone, and welcome to the official Out of Character thread for the roleplay titled "Pokemon in Space". I am Bfroger6, your host, and it will be my job and my responsibility to guide you through the many wonders I have prepared in this world of my creation. There will be fun, there will be difficulty, but I know you'll be able to prevail over it all and seize what you must seek.

What that is, however, is still up for debate...

Without further ado (as there have been many changes done to the original Pokemon system in order to accomodate it to a fair  and judgeable rp system), let's get the techicalities out of the way before introducing the world itself, shall we~?

!!!The first post of this thread will deal with the system used in this rp. The subsequent post will regard the setting and character creation!!!

!!!The third post will contain all accepted character data!!!

-> STATS

Spoiler

As in any Pokemon game, stats play a big role during battles. However, unlike in just any old Pokemon game, stats in PiS are calculated by the following formula:

Stat = ((Base Stat + (EP/5)) * (1 + (Lv/100))* Nature

 - Lv is the Pokemon's current level.

 - EP are Effort Points for the respective stat (totally different than Effort Values, duh)

ATK - ATK or Attack determines the power of physical moves a Pokemon uses. For every 20 points in ATK, the Pokemon's physical moves gain +10 in power.

DEF - DEF or Defense determines the Pokemon's ability to shrug off physical attacks. For every 20 points in DEF, the damage done by physical damaging moves to the Pokemon is lowered by 10.

SP.ATK - SP.ATK or Special Attack determines the power of special moves a Pokemon uses. For every 20 points in SP.ATK, the Pokemon's special moves gain +10 in power.

SP.DEF - SP.DEF or Special Defense determines the Pokemon ability to shrug off non-physical assaults. For every 20 points in SP.DEF, the damage done by special damaging moves to the Pokemon is lowered by 10.

SPE - SPE or Speed determines the velocity which the Pokemon is capable of reaching without using any assistance. SPE is considered a comparable value because it is based mainly on comparing the stats between you and your opponent. This is done by determining the numerical difference between both Pokemon's current SPE stats. If the difference is less than 20, they are considered to be in the same Speed Tier and can move at approximately the same velocity. However, if one has more than 20 SPE over another, it is considered a Speed Tier higher and can easily outrun the slower Pokemon. SPE also determines the turn order, with faster Pokemon getting the opportunity to move first.

HP - When a Pokemon's Hit Points drop to 0, the Pokemon is considered unable to fight and is removed from combat, either by running off if it's a wild Pokemon or returning to the Poke Ball it's contained in. HP is a unique value because it is calculated differently than the other stats. Instead of following the basic one, Hit Points are calculated using their own special formula:

HP = (Base HP + HPEP * (Lv/50)) * (2 + (Lv/100))

 - Lv is the Pokemon's current level.

 - HPEP are Hit Point Effort Points

-> BATTLE SYSTEM

     -> Player v Wild Pokemon/Trainer/Player/Boss/Special

Spoiler

The battles in PiS play out more akin to actual combat than the turn-based "strategy" present in main series Pokemon games, but with an emphasis enough placed on rulings in order to provide a fair and judgeable environment for everyone to enjoy (except the GM cause work, aaaaaaaaaa). Several of the key elements of combat will be explained in the following article

There are several key terms one must acquaint oneself with to understand the system in PiS: Atk/SpA Values, Def/SpD Values and Deflecting.

-> Atk/SpA Value, Def/SpD Value

To create a valid combat system that would provide ample footing for stat buffs to function as they do closely in the Pokemon series, the previous terminology of PWR needed to be replaced with the Atk/SpA Values. The Values, rather than basing the resulting power of the move on its Base Power, use the Pokemon's own Stats as the base measure so when a stat is upped by 50%, so is the move's resulting power. Additionally, the calculus is now multiplicative rather than additive. @IntSys is to thank for that <3

The Values are calculated by taking the corresponding stat (Atk or SpA) of the Pokemon, multiplying it by a value determined by the Pokemon's Lv, then by the move's Base Power or BP. Additional multipliers, such as bonuses from items or STAB, are also added at this stage. Multipliers such as Effectiveness and Critical Hits are applied to the resulting damage although it hardly makes a change in this system as the order of calculations did in the old one.

Same goes for the Def/SpD Values, except they take the Def or SpD stat into consideration and do not include the BP multiplication.

Resulting damage is calculated as such: Atk Value/Def Value

These calculations aren't something the players need to be concerned with. The PiS Spreadsheet has been edited to include the formulas and can easily be accesed.

-> Deflecting

A term replacing Clashing as Clashing With is no longer applicable due to the Atk/SpA Values being too varied.

A Pokemon's move will always deflect, even if partially, the power of the opponent's attack. This is done by subtracting the user's Atk/SpA Value of the move from the opponent's Atk/SpA Value of the move clashing together. Deflecting is crucial in combat and can mean a difference between a one-hit kill and survival. Physical moves deflect with Physical ones, while Special moves with Special ones. Moves such as Psyshock deflect with Physical ones.

For example, enemy A uses Hydro Pump for a theoretical 8000 SpA Value (yes the values go that high) but user A uses Hyper Beam for 6000 SpA Value. The enemy's Hydro Pump will drop to 8k - 6k = 2000 SpA Value. The Hyper Beam's power would be extinguished though.

     -> Additional rulings

Spoiler

For a simpler explanation of the process itself, I will be dividing it into phases.

PHASE #1 - turn order

The first turn of PvS combat will be you as players choosing the first Pokemon you will throw out. After everyone has chosen, I will be comparing SPE stats and setting a turn order. You can use Techical skills to alter the turn order if you have any. The battle will commence afterwards, and everyone gets only ONE post per turn.

PHASE #2 - waiting for your turn

If you're not the first one to go, wait paitently for everyone that's before you in the turn order to write their posts before making yours. If waiting times end up dragging out, I will be enforcing a time limit.

PHASE #3 - your turn (finally)

When your turn rolls around, you will want to re-read and carefully analyze the posts made by people before you. Strategize and plan out a course of action that will benefit all. As this is a free-writing combat style, you can shape your attacks however you want (within believable boundaries) and use them however you want. You can talk with others, and anything you wish. You might want to even try to interact with the environment if you see a way to do so. You are also free to activate your Special Skills or switch out your Pokemon (switching out uses up a turn, but using your Special Skill does not unless stated otherwise in the skill's description). The only limit is your imagination (and stats). At the end of your post, you will be required to post the attack (and the attack's power) that you're using and/or any other actions you're taking. You can also write a short summary of what you're doing in your post if you want to make it clearer to other parties involved. It's your choice though~

PHASE #4 - waiting for everyone else to finish

What it says above. Patiently wait for all other players after you in the turn order to finish their posts.

PHASE #5 - calculations

I will be doing all the calculations for the attacks that connected to their targets during the turn order and calculate their remaining HP. Afterwards, the turn order will begin anew (follow PHASES #1 to #5).

-> LEVELING (courtesy of Komodojoe) & EFFORT POINTS

Spoiler

EXP is awarded on the following scale, based on Fire Emblem's exp system:

21 or more levels below: 0 exp. If no experience was rewarded during battle, then they will get a total of 1.

16-20 levels below: 1 exp

11-15 levels below: 10 exp

6-10 levels below: 20 exp

Between 0-5 levels away (from either above or below your Pokemon's level): 30 exp

6-10 levels above: 40 exp

11-15 levels above: 50 exp

16-20 levels above: 70 exp

21-25 levels above: 100 exp

Different Power Tiers are divided by the amount of Effort Values a Pokemon gives out in the games, with the only difference being Scyther which is changed to by a Power Tier 2 Pokemon. As such, all Pokemon are divided into 3 Power Tiers. When fighting a Pokemon of a higher Power Tier and winning, the EXP awarded is multiplied by 1.5. When fighting a Pokemon two Power Tiers higher, it is multiplied by 2. When fighting a Pokemon of a lower Power Tier, it is multiplied by 0.75 or 0.5 depending on the tier difference.

Trainer battles award base EXP +10 (before multiplying).

Total EXP = (Base EXP + PvT Bonus) * Tier Multiplier * Bonus ((up to a maximum of 100))

PvP awards no EXP.

PvB may award something more valuable than just EXP.

Effort Points are a different beast altogether. For every 5 EP awarded to a stat, its base increases by a set value of 1, except HP, to allow for more varied growths. EP are awarded on a different scale:

Dungeon completion: +10

For every battle the Pokemon was used in: +5

For every Pokemon it defeated in PvWP or PvT: +5

For every fifth Pokemon it defeated in PvWP or PvT: + 10

For every succesful Critical hit: +10

For every time it fainted: -10

???: +/-???

EP are awarded at the end of combat.

All stats have a maximum value at Lv * 2 and they max out at 200 EP at Lv 100.

-> LEARNING MOVES

Spoiler

Moves are important. They're the basis of building a Pokemon's playstyle. Because my own idea sucked, I took the observations presented by the people who've shown interest in this rp and tried to devise a new plan for learning new moves. So let's see...

And then I changed my mind. You learn moves by leveling up. However, you need to first use a Move Slot to unlock a new slot if you so wish. Theoretically, your Pokemon could learn an infinite number of moves in PiS via chips and technology. Yay for technology!!!

-> ABILITIES

Spoiler

Abilties for Pokemon you catch or receive are randomized. Also, there will always be a slight chance to find a Pokemon with their Hidden Abilitiy (if they have one).

-> NATURES

Spoiler

Wild Pokemon have no Natures. Their Natures are determined upon succesful capture, when 3 possible Natures will be randomized and you will have the freedom of picking between one of them to best suit your style. Same goes for starters.

-> SPECIAL SKILLS

Spoiler

There are 5 distinct categories in which any good Space Aether Employee Cadet falls into: Attacker (ATT), Trickster (STA), Explorer (SUP), Technician (CON) and Defender (DEF), and each of them has distinct strenghts they can utilize in and out of combat. Attacker maximizes ATTack damage and power, Trickster uses STAtus effects and other tricks to make up for their weaker ATK and DEF, Explorer acts as dungeon SUPport and can provide information and even healing, Technician CONtrols the flow of battle and Defender's bulk provides unparalleled DEFensive capabilities. You decide your category during character creation, but can later build upon it as the story progresses.

Every mission will reward you with a small amount of Special Points. These Special Points can be used to upgrade an existing category or build the basis of a new one. Each category has 5 levels, with Lv 5 only reachable in your starting category, and each level costs more SP to, well, buy. A Lv 1 (basic) skill costs 3 SP, Lv 2 costs 4 SP, Lv 3 costs 5 SP, Lv 4 costs 6 SP and Lv 5 costs 7 SP.

There may be other ways to earn Special Points too.

The rest of the information will come with the character section of the post.

The system might look scary, but I'm sure everyone will get used to it eventually through playing the rp.

There's one other aspect of the system that needs addressing, however.

...but before even that...

NOTE: DECIMALS ALWAYS ROUND DOWN ON EVERY STEP IN EVERY CALCULATION. WHEN YOU SEE A DECIMAL, ROUND IT DOWN QUICK.

(i.e. if your Nature is Brave and your SPE is 99, you'll only deduct 9 from it, not 9.9)

...let's move on...

*DUNGEON CRAWLING*

/the short & sweet explanation/

Spoiler

The world of Pokemon in Space is based upon the existence of Nexuses, independent worlds that appear as giant starry marbles or bubbles from the outside but can contain literally anything inside. The plot is based upon going on official Space Aether Foundation missions and exploring these Nexuses, which form complex dungeons in their interiors. These dungeons contain some markers ('!', '?', '!!', '|', '_', etc.) which are called Points of Interest. You move through the dungeon by specifying which Point of Interest are you moving to. You will be able to immediately travel to it in the span of a single post unless there is another Point of Interest blocking your way. Yeah, and that's the short & basic explanation of it all. Wild Pokemon appear in dungeons and an Explorer is always handy to have on board.

*PLOT & WORLD*

/all you need to know to make your character/

The plot of Pokemon in Space is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the whole universe (except for a single star shining bright in the distance) has vanished in an event dubbed the Great Cosmostrophe, but humanity has survived with a handful of Pokemon following the guidance of the Space Aether Foundation, which provided humans with safety from the dangers of the Anti-Space at the expense of ignorance. Space Aether has had the power to freely create independent pocket-universes known as Nexuses, each with their own ekosystems, but all inhabitable by both humans and Pokemon. Space Aether separated humans from Pokemon under the pretense of "preservation" and "repopulation".

Eight Nexuses have been populated by humans to form the Nexus Grid, and 100,076,999 by Pokemon, forming the Micro Grid.

Now is the year 654 of the Aetherian Calendar, counting days since the establishment of peace and the quelling of chaos that ensued following the Great Cosmostrophe. It is known that the Great Cosmostrophe itself happened more than 654 years ago, but how long ago is unknown as scriptures of that time are either lost to time or nonexistant. Peace rules the Nexuses, but Pokemon and humans still live separately. The bond they once shared has faded over hundreds of years, and humans have started looking at the Pokemon more like animals at the zoo than anything else, except in Space Aether, where they are used as help or tools to an end, that end being progress and survival of mankind. It is a truly sad time to be alive, but people barely notice they lack anything. To them, their lives are perfect as they are, lost in blissful ignorance. Except, of course, those whose hearts still yearn for adventure. These special people still feel the bond with Pokemon pulsating with their heartbeats and they cannot contain it. They are known as Space Aether Employee Cadets and are the explorers which brave the unexplored frontiers of dangerous Nexuses.

You are one of those special people.

-> NEXUSES <-

/surrogates to Pokearth/

Nexuses are worlds within the frame of the now empty real world which are filled with limitless possibilities. On the outside, they appear as huge (some are even planet-sized) deep black marbles reflecting the starry night sky (even though there are no stars in this universe anymore), but on the inside, you never know what you're going to find. Even the main eight Nexuses still hide many secrets and are largely unexplored, as humans rarely dawdle far from their settlements.

The Space Aether Foundation classifies them into three distinct categories: the Main Grid, the Micro Grid and the Unauthorised Grid.

THE MAIN GRID

The Main Nexus Grid is comprised of eight Nexuses, listed as numerals #00 through #07. They are the largest populated Nexuses under direct juristdiction of Space Aether Foundation.

hq_by_ninjacyndaquil-daxr76a.jpg

#00 - Space Aether Foundation Headquarters & Aether City

The first Nexus, established soon after the fallout of the universe. There is nothing in this Nexus except for vast skies.

A modern city floats around the Space Aether Foundation Headquarters building in this environment. The space within the Nexus is seemingly limitless, with no end in scanner range in any direction. Some theoretists still claim something else must exist within this Nexus, but no research has yielded any results all the years since its discovery (unknown date) and initial human inhabitation. The sky within the Nexus is constantly sunny, never shifting towards either extreme hot or cold. Weather conditions are stable with no rain nor any possible or projected disturbance. The source of the sun-like formation shining inside of the Nexus is still unknown and unclear, as scanning it has provided no conclusive results nor matches with any known compound whatsoever. It is positioned approximately twice the distance between the old Pokearth and the old Sun, putting its size to gargantuan scales. It never sets so, in order to provide the city's inhabitants with a healthy biological cycle, the Space Aether Foundation has built filters into the barrier around the city which activate accordingly to dwindle the amount of light-exposure during night time.

All other Main Grid and Micro Grid Nexuses orbit around #00.

The actual HQ is a huge building towering at more than 10 km in height. It is suspended in the air. Cadets' office occupies floor B9. The President's chamber is on floor 333333.

The HQ & city mostly houses Aether Employees of all sorts, and has around a 1,000,000 inhabitants.

gearcity_by_ninjacyndaquil-daxr77p.jpg

#01 - Gear City

The second Nexus, functioning as a massive shipyard where Space Aether Employee Metalworkers work tirelessly day after day to build newer and better Anti-Spaceships capable of penetrating the outer spatial integrity of Nexuses.

A vast city where gravity is artificial, there is nothing in this Nexus except a metallic dome-like-sky and a city built in the shape of a ball. Everything inside it is artifical, save for, obviously, life. The city was not built by Space Aether, instead appearing to literally be the interior of Nexus #01 itself. How or why the Nexus was formed in such a way is unknown. There used to be wild Pokemon in the many pipe-like halls leading deeper into the construct, but all have been safely deposited in the Micro Grid in the year 103. Nexus #01 afterwards took the previous function of Nexus #05 (ship construction) as it was deemed better suited for it. The city itself looks like someone threw a whole lot of metallic buildings together and connected them via pipes, railroads and metal bars. Its power supply seems limitless and emanates from the core that is located in the deepest parts of the city where few dare wander. Attempts have been made to harvest this power but none even reached the core. This has fueled rumors about unknown dangers lurking below.

At night, the sun built into the dome-sky shuts down.

>12,000,000 inhabitants.

vllageofvictors_by_ninjacyndaquil-daxr78

#02 - (former) Village of Victors

What was formerly a grand Nexus of expansive plains where grass danced with fire itself and where legends were born (according to legends, at least), has been reduced to a mere shell of its former self through the last 20 years, ever since the incident happened. These plains that used to spread across the Nexus have since been replaced by poorly contsructed slums and rows of berry-trees that bear no fruit any longer. Pokemon roam free within this Nexus, as containment and detainment of Pokemon released during the aforementioned incident was impossible to achieve without casualties due to the sheer number of them. Most people living here have flocked to the Nexus after getting fired or some other event that left them broke, so the place has become a sort of human dumpster. And it definitely looks the part. Delinquency is a rule there. Oh, and they also live in fear of Pokemon in this Nexus, though some have started changing opinions. What the future holds for this Nexus is unclear, but life is hard. People here tend to resent Space Aether for leaving them in this state and President Haether is working her very best to correct the mistakes of her predecessor.

The skies shine a bright red.

??? inhabitants (presumed over 3 million).

kartantuanjungle_by_ninjacyndaquil-daxr7

#03 - Kartantuan Jungle

The third Nexus presumed to only fall short from the title of the largest because of #00's expansive skies and #04's oceanic depths. It is a jungle made from trees and plants much largers than the ones you're used to. Ferns grow as tall as buildings and trees tear the skies. It is an unwelcome environment that humans have avoided for a long time, though some have opted to live their lives in peace there, away from the business of Space Aether, starting self-sufficient small tribal societies which live in treehouses high up on the tallest branches to avoid dangers below. Pokemon roam wild within this Nexus, as containment is impossible, and mostly consist of Flying, Bug and Grass types. The bountiful environment allows them to enjoy life in the jungle.

Over 99% of this Nexus is left unexplored as most expeditions fail. None of the actual tribal settlements have been discovered as of now.

??? inhabitants.

wailudatriangle_by_ninjacyndaquil-daxr7b

#04 - The Wailuda Triangle Resort

The majority of Nexus #04 is comprised of untamed, raging oceans. The only inhabitable segment of the Nexus's interior is a small triangle-shaped area around a big island called the Wailsland. Space Aether controls and regulates the weather here, making it stable. Meanwhile, in year 347, it has been remodeled into a popular resort where people from all other Nexuses can come and enjoy the charms of the seaside. There is an aquarium filled with Water-type Pokemon here open for public, though it is under heavy surveillance at all times, but what's really interesting about this Nexus are the unexplored depths. Using highly efficient Anti-Space probes, it has been estimated that the actual depth of this Nexus cannot be estimated in terms of human comprehension. An Alakazam died after being exposed to the computed results in an attempt by the Foundation to decipher them, after which further testing was prohibited.

Magikarp have been imported and can be fished in the waters here. The locals make a living out of it.

The Magikarp are chipped and, upon evolution, removed and brought into a containment preserve.

113 inhabitants.

storagefin_by_ninjacyndaquil-daxr7c6.jpg

#05 - Storage Site 00

The grim building in front of the constantly black skies used to be the Main Grid's main shipyard until it got scratched over 500 years ago and remade into a dump. Nobody goes there anymore except for janitors and there's not much to see anyways. Just a building full of trash. Oh, and Pokemon that have escaped during the incident 20 years ago. Exactly for this reason has it been ruled that janitors be given permission to carry their own Pokemon on them, a notion largely accepted by the majority of them as most of them were trying for the Cadet position at the Aether Academy anyways but failed.

0 inhabitans.

agricolab_by_ninjacyndaquil-daxr7co.jpg

#06 - Space Aether Agricultural Lab Facility

Where berries are grown. Large farmlands adorn the horizon, dotted with white buildings - laboratories, and rows and rows of GMO berry trees. This is mostly a workplace for most of the people, nobody actually lives there and it isn't interesting at all. This used to be a butcherhouse for when Pokemon meat was still used as food, but not anymore as only synthesized meat is allowed to be used nowadays.

0 inabitants.

lasspacadise_by_ninjacyndaquil-daxr7cv.j

#07 - Las Spaceadise

A high-tech flashy city of casinos and all things neon. It is the playground of the privileged and only the rich can afford to live here. Most of its income comes from gambling facilities and fraud, and most of the people living here are con artists of some sort. Nothing seems to exist outside of city limits (only impenetrable and impassable darkness), but everything can exist within them. It is the place where desires come to fruition. Space Aether keeps out of its affairs because of the vast riches #07 has on its disposal. Pokemon Professor Banana lives here.

576,389 inhabitants.

It takes around 30 minutes from one Nexus to another using the high speed Anti-Space Bus.

People constantly travel to their workplaces in another Nexus or Micro Nexus, so travelling between Nexuses has become an everyday phenomenon nobody really even talks about anymore except when complaining about ticket prices.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE MICRO GRID

The Micro Grid refers to all authorised Nexuses that fall out of the Main Grid categorization because of their smallness. These include Pokemon containment preserves, academies and stuff like prisons and mental hospitals.

***SPACE AETHER ACADEMY***

The Space Aether Academy is the leading facility for training new Space Aether Employees and its own Micro Nexus. Actually there are two of these, one for people with more money and the other one for people with less money. Of course, everything is better in the richer Academy, but the less expensive one is a good alternative for the less fortunate people. After all, the 2nd Academy has been built specifically to house those that could not pay the tuition for the more expesnive courses offered.

Everyone has to pass one of the courses offered at the Academy, as everyone works for Space Aether.

-> The Cadet Course

The most popular course taken in the Space Aether Academy, but also the most expensive one and the one with the highest fail rate.

Children can start the course at the ripe young age of 7, and finish it in 4 years minimum. Generally though, people apply when they're 11 and fail at least twice before completing the course at the age of 17.

The course does not accept anyone older than 21 and if you fail and you're older than 25, you cannot retake the year or the course. Applicants that fail, cannot afford the tuition, or are too old, become Space Aether Janitors. This happens to 75% of all the applicants. Yes, 75%.

At the end of the course, whether you went to the 1st or the 2nd Academy, you need to take the official Space Aether Employee Cadet Exam held at the HQ which consists of a written exam and, allegedly, a practical exam. Allegedly because you've only been put through the written exam and have already been given your IDs.

Who knows what kinda stuff is waiting for you or if the practical exam even exists.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE UNAUTHORISED GRID

The Unauthorised Grid refers to all Nexuses that have not been approved by Space Aether. Any new Nexus that appears is first branded as such before explored by Cadets and populated or given a purpose. Through history, mostly small ones have been popping up, but lately, their mean size has begun to grow. This is cause for concern, as larger Nexuses tend to hide many mysteries.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE INCIDENT

The incident that took place 20 years ago resulted in several containment and preservation facilities in the Micro Grid colliding with several Nexuses from the Main Grid (mainly #00 and #05), in an attempt made by a group calling themselves the Space Pokelluminati to reintroduce Pokemon and people while subsequently undermine Space Aether. The traces of the rebellion led the Space Aether Employee Detectives to Nexus #02 and caused its downfall.

Space Pokelluminati have not been heard of ever since.

...

THE LAST STAR

The Last Star is the last remaining astral body in the universe of Pokemon in Space. It is the brightest recorded star in history so far.

Ever since the Great Comsostrophe, humans (and Pokemon) have had an innate yearning towards the Star. It is unknown what causes this phenomenon.

Space Aether is currently attempting to send probes to reach the Star, but are getting no results.

It is general folklore that the Last Star holds the answer to everyone's prayers and has the power to change everything to how it used to be.

...

ANTI-SPACE

Anti-Space is a physical state in which nothing exists, not even Anti-Space itself. The only reason people can survive in the universe of Pokemon in Space is because of Nexuses. Even Anti-Spaceships are infused with the same kind of energy as the Nexuses in order to prevent them from falling out of existence. This makes interstellar travel much more difficult and prevents the humanity from launching real expeditions towards the Last Star.

*MAKING YOUR CHARACTER*

Name: (Boy/Girl/Neither)

Age:

Appearance:

Personality:

Backstory:

Starter:

Special Skill:

-> Name

Knock yourselves out. Future is spiffy. Write the name and then bold the gender option.

-> Age

Anywhere between 11 and 25. Youngest Space Aether Employee Cadets start their cadetship at the age of 11 after finishing the Space Aether Academy. The regular populace usually starts the Academy at age 11 and finishes the 4 grades somewhere at age 17 after failing each year at least twice. If you have the money, you can try again until you're 25. If you don't have money, you become a Space Aether Janitor. If you fail after turning 26, you become a Space Aether Janitor. It's simple.

-> Appearance

Your appearance and out-of-work wardrobe. Because Space Aether has regulations and uniforms. You can choose between a sleeveless jumpsuit + shirt and just a regular shirt and pants kind of uniform here for guys and a jumpsuit or shirt + skirt or pants for girls.

-> Personality

Again, knock yourselves out. Anything goes, pretty much. There's no limit to how much you write in here.

-> Backstory

Self-explanatory. Write which Nexus you came from and whatever else you want to put in here. I will help you write this, so don't hesitate to ask me.

-> Starter

The Pokemon you've requested from the Space Aether Foundation or one that you've brought in yourself, you fithly #02 street rat. This can be any Pokemon that yields only 1 EV in the official games and can further evolve, except Scyther and Cosmog.

For the EV yield list, refer to here: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pokémon_by_effort_value_yield

-> Special Skill

Your character's Special Skill. These can be used in and out of battle and you are required to pick your category here.

Attacker | Lv 1 - active | Increase your active Pokemon's ATK or SP.ATK by 1 stage once per battle |

Trickster | Lv 1 - active | Add a random 20% status-inflicting added effect to your active Pokemon's Physical or Special move once per battle |

Explorer | Lv 1 - passive | Allows the user to notice special Points of Interest during dungeon crawling |

Technician | Lv 1 - passive | User can move first in the turn order regardless of speed unless another character also has this skill |

Defender | Lv 1 - active | Increase your active Pokemon's DEF or SP.DEF by 1 stage once per battle |

(I want to make spiffy graphics for the categories so you just wait a little til I get them done, ehehehe...)

Name: Radovan Tushar
Age: 17

Appearance: Radovan is a young man of average (but still growing!) height, who has the lean frame of someone who can afford health food and regular exercise, but isn't doing this for the looks. He has pinkish skin that's mostly free of freckles and blemishes by this point in his life, and he keeps his straight brown hair as it is really, only keeping it neat when he has to, which due to his profession, isn't often. He smiles a lot really, revealing just a tiny bit of his pearly white teeth when has that slightly (pleased/smug) expression of his. His face itself is kinda average in terms of attractiveness, if we're judging by hollywood standards that is.

He wears a shimmering golden scaled trench coat over everything else he wears, a gift from a grandmother that keeps him warm and snug when he's out and about, he's not very particular about what he wears underneath it, but he prefers something dark colored and casual, suits aren't very practical for wearing under a coat after all. His shoes are black, well made, and made for the occasion, whatever that may be, at least if he gets the chance to change.

Personality: A young man with a propensity for the dramatic, and a seemingly calm and reserved nature, Radovan is actually just a nice and proper young man who likes to smile and help people he likes. He values loyalty by quite a lot due to his upbringing, and he'll stick around with someone he finds interesting and keep them from...not being interesting anymore. He tends to speak faster than he probably should, not used to people not being able to 'keep up' with him you know?. And he's really curious too! Loves exploring, the kind of person to climb up a mountain just to see what's up there, and take in the sights.

Backstory: If you asked him, Radovan would say that he was born to fairly normal and average parents really, his father's a martial artist and successful casino owner, the kind of man who crawled out of the gutter and became 'independently wealthy' in his 30s, taught him how to stand up for himself among other things. His mother meanwhile, is a good cook and pleasant conversationalist, she's been working as a geneticist for the SAF for quite a while, long enough that she doesn't really need to head to the office as often as she does anymore, but she does so anyway. They're good to him, and he knows that they work so hard because they love him, and they only want the best for him, because that's what they've given him really, the best.

Having drifted around and learned from his parents for the most part during his early years, he never considered becoming a cadet until he realized just how cool being one actually is, and he mostly sold his parents on the idea with one closing sentence, "Perhaps they would name something after me one day," joining the academy proper when he was 13 years old.

He went to the higher class academy of course, living on the lap of luxury all the while, as while his parents had mixed feelings about his career choice, they also knew that he would find a way to get around them in the end, and well, they can't have him setting his caviar fund aside for years just so that he could apply when he's already 17 or something right? no no, that just wouldn't do, what would the other parents say?. Mostly jealous murmurings and baseless accusations of their cheating, since, at the age of 17, Radovan passed the "difficult" four year course without failing once. It was only natural, though. He's worked his ass off to get here, hasn't he?.

tl;dr: he is a rich bastard from Nexus #07 who isn't actually much of a bastard, he is pretty much a guy who is in because it sounds cool and he is good enough to succeed, he also does not like uncultured or mute people too much, as they tend to be poor and thus beggars.

Taylor Johnson

Spoiler

Name:  Taylor Johnson (?)

Age:  18

Appearance:  Wraps all visible parts of body in gloves, long sleeves, sunglasses, and bandages.  Claims to have a skin condition.  Dresses like the Invisible Man.  No visible hair, but always wears a hat.  Alternates between the shirt + pants and shirt + skirt versions of the Aether uniform apparently at random.  May or may not understand the difference between the two.  Extremely androgynous in body type and voice.

Personality:  Taylor is a quiet, intellectual type who prefers to listen first, then share their thoughts if they have any.  They enjoy reading, working with technology (especially computers), and exploring new places.  Taylor is rather cautious, and prefers to research and prepare for places to the best of their abilities when given the chance.  If forced to improvise, their performance suffers considerably.  Taylor is perfectly happy to take a supporting role in battles, but will react very negatively if anyone suggests their contributions didn’t matter, especially if it is implied that whoever was doing the most damage did all the work.  However, they will go to considerable lengths to avoid a physical confrontation, including one particularly memorable occasion in which they shut themselves inside a refrigerator for three solid hours after a heated altercation with a wealthy student from zone 0 who was unfamiliar with the concept of people disagreeing with him.

Backstory:  Supposedly an orphan from zone 1, Taylor simply showed up at the less expensive of Aether’s academies four years ago with no documented history of any kind, no possessions save the clothes on their back, and just enough money to cover academy fees for the full course, assuming they passed every year.  They then proceeded to pass every single academic challenge with precisely the bare minimum score needed to not flunk.  Paired with Taylor’s distinctive ability to establish a rapport with nearly any Pokemon in just a single meeting, this was enough to bring them to the attention of President Haether.  Exactly what this means for Taylor, however, remains to be seen.

Personality: Anthony is usually very professional and non-confrontational. He's studied business etiquette all his life, so he's pretty good at making deals. He has a touch of daddy-issues, due to his distant father, but does his best to hide it.

Backstory: Anthony is the son of a wealthy businessman. Although his father wasn't around much - what with his extensive business connections - Anthony always idolized him, wanting to be successful like him. He wore suits, talked like a businessman, even bleached his hair to look more like him. So, now that he's all grown up, he's set out to make his mark.

Alright, reviewed via PM.

Spoiler

Name: Shelly Ashton [Female]

Age: 17

Appearance: She is exactly five feet tall, and has dirty blond hair of medium length and brown eyes. Her face could be considered pretty by some, in an average sort of way. Outside of the Aether foundation required uniform, she does not care too much what she wears, so long as she has clothing on her back. However, she does enjoy wearing scarves when she can, to the point where she has amassed a small collection during her time at the Aether Academy.

Personality: Shelly is a rather intelligent girl, and is completely intolerant of incompetence, even her own at times. Failures will cause her to feel anger towards the person involved, even if the failure occurred ostensibly by chance. As such, her motivating factor in fighting pokemon battles is not to win, but to avoid losing. This general part of her personality is likely due to her upbringing in a rather poor family. She does not intend to be failures like her parents, though recent events have softened her view of them somewhat. Though she is driven by these feelings, she prefers not to let it get in the way of her job. Outside  of work, she can be slightly more agreeable, though she will seem a little distant. The most interesting thing perhaps, would be her attitude towards her pokemon after a defeat. She will not blame them, seeing their failure only as a reflection of her own. She enjoys her academics, and is reasonably skilled at them.

Backstory: Born to a poverty stricken family in Nexus 02, Shelly’s family quickly impressed upon her the importance of not following their footsteps, and making a name for herself. Due to some familial situation, Shelly didn’t begin her training at the Aether foundation until age of 13.(These familial difficulties are basically that her parents saved up enough to pay for her tuition at the 2nd Aether Academy in secret, a ten year operation. During this time, Shelly’s belief that her parents were failures was cemented by their seeming inability to keep track of the money they obtained)

Emmanuel

Spoiler

Name: Emmanuel (Boy)

Age: 13

Appearance: A young boy, clocking in 130 cm tall. He has neatly groomed blond hair. He wears a white lab coat that’s clearly not his size, with a pair of blue jeans and a white tank top inside. Stationeries are placed inside the coat, while notebooks are placed outside the coat, all neatly placed in various pockets. He usually carries a small bag with him, containing his Solosis.

Personality: Progressive and active, yearning for the betterment of Nexus #02. He tries to move on from his mentally-disabled past, but occasionally the past comes back to haunt him, whether through nightmares or rivals.

Backstory: Born in Nexus #02, Emmanuel was a mentally-disabled child, bullied by neighboring delinquents over and over. At the age of 6, his parents gave up and decided to end his unfortunate life. He was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife, and thrown down into the wastes. Just as he clung onto the last of his life, a lone Solosis came by, and covered his wound with its membrane. The Solosis pitied him, and sent an unsteady psychic pulse to his brain. The pulse unlocked his brain, freeing him from the curse that he was born with. On top of this, he became much smarter than the average folks. The Solosis rested on his wound, slowly mending it with its abilities. Before long, he finally recovered. The two formed a bond, a symbiotic bond. Solosis told him that the only way to survive for good is to travel to the Space Aether Academy and join the Cadets, but Emmanuel didn’t want to just survive, he wanted to fix his home nexus. Perhaps, their resources would be enough to help. Emmanuel scavenged and worked part-time for three years with Solosis’ help, before he finally obtained enough funds for a ride to the 2nd Aether Academy and the tuition. He aced the tests with ease, and within 4 years he finally became a Cadet.

Kalva Wilson

Spoiler

Name: Kalva Wilson

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Personality:
Has a friendly personality who is enthusiastic for adventure, and is mostly smiling, rarely angry.
Trusts pokemon over humans, though he wouldn't deliberately shy away from making human friends.
Believes strongly in the rights of pokemon, quite progressive as opposed to the Pokemon fearing views of his peers.
He is a mute due to his damaged larynx, resulting from an abusive father, and has to communicate through writing or hand signals.

When in a tough situation, he'll have a surge of strong determination, and and if he sees someone abusing Pokemon, he'll become very angry.

Strangely, he has memory blanks from time to time, and becomes uncomfortable if one talks about his father too much.

Appearance:
His hair is emerald green, stroked back sideways neatly, with a fair complexion and brown eyes.
He often wears a white jacket, despite it being rather old and shabby. He insists on wearing it whenever he goes to an important event.
This appearance looks strikingly like the Ralts he befriended from early on in his childhood.

His body is covered in old bruises and curious scars, and has a particularly nasty imprint of a bruise on his right forearm.
He also wears a feather shaped badge that signifies him as a mute.

Backstory:
Kalva was raised in the slums of 02, where his father was an abusive drunk, abusing his wife and children every night.
Despite this, Kalva still made sure to save every last pokemon he found, first of which was a Ralts called Quina.
With a newfound bravery in his friends, and with the support of the other members of his family, he joined the Academy at the age of 11 against his father's behest.
Although struggling at first, he quickly caught up with others from sheer determination and dedication.

Eventually, when he became old enough, he confronted his father and eventually chased him out of the household.

After graduating the Academy, he seeks to travel the Nexuses and find new landscapes for Quina to paint.

Okay, so everything was reviewed and accepted. Now I'll just drop this here...

Name: Desmond Miles (Male)

Age: 18

Appearance: Desmond is 5'11 in height with short black hair and blue eyes. His skin is also somewhat tanned. He tends to wear a simple white shirt with a black jacket over it, which is usually zipped open under many circumstances, a black pair of jeans, a pair of shoes with a stylish black and white pattern, and a small gold pendant he wears around his neck. Should anyone see him without his jacket, they will most likely notice the long scar going down the majority of his right arm from an incident that happened a while back.

Personality: Desmond is that one guy who will take almost everything seriously, especially when he's trying to do his job. He's always been one to do something by the book, never really trying to take shortcuts, and always speaks the truth, or at least what feels to be the truth. But despite all that seriousness and a bit of jackassery if he feels you stepped out of line, he's a pretty solid dude. Definitely someone you can rely on to back you up when things hit the fan. He's also a pretty decent guy to talk to as long as you don't joke around too much. Granted, he's more of a listener, but... you know... details. He also likes to spend time relaxing at cafes to unwind.

Backstory: Straight from Nexus #01, Desmond grew up with two siblings, an older sister and a younger brother, along with his mother and father. His father worked pretty high up in the ship construction business, so the entire family made a pretty decent living. It wasn't anything special, but it was a bit more than enough to just live off of. Desmond's older sister went off to the first academy and Desmond's plan was to work with his father in ship construction. Well, at first it was, but something felt wrong. He couldn't figure out what it was, though. It was honest work, but something was missing from it. Actually, it felt more like he was getting stuck doing the same routine every day. He needed more variety. On a whim, he decided to follow his sister by entering the first academy as well. He was 13 at the time by the way. He failed the first year because there was quite a bit of stuff he wasn't prepared for. Other than that, everything went pretty smoothly. He passed every class after that. His sister passed as well, but we're not here to talk about that.

And so... Here we are. Desmond made it through the academy and is about to move on to his next adventure. What happens next is anyone's guess.

Finally finished my sheet for Kai Eoland.

Spoiler

Personal Information

Name: Karla ‘Kai’ Eoland. (Girl)

Age: 17

Appearance

Head: Light golden blonde shoulder length hair put into a ponytail. Their ponytail band is made of an extremely soft zip ties that easily stretches, wrapped with a soft fabric. Small enough to be mistaken for an ordinary one.

Torso: Wears the men’s shirt, sleeves cut to detach at the shoulders. Wears an old analog watch, updated with a digital display under the moving hands. Wears a pair of leather gloves ripped apart, and sewn back together to have a layer of rubber underneath. The visible stitches are rather chaotic and all over the place, but Kai doesn’t notice, apparently.

Legs: Standard issue men’s pants, with the left leg cut and folded twice, reaching just below the knees, with the other in perfect condition.

Other: 5 foot, 10 inches in height. Slender frame. Tan skin.

Personality

“‘Worthless’? No such thing as that! What’s believed to be worthless just hasn’t found it, yet.”

An overconfident young girl with a love for scrap metal and random junk. Not caring for her own limitations, she’ll jump into trouble no matter what happens, if it means some fun for her.

Having grown up with an inventor for a mother, she inherited her love of tinkering with machines. Having explored Nexus #05 for all its precious scrap, she knows how to pick out specific pieces off the street and put them to good use.

Backstory

“Life is a precious thing. That’s why I want to make mine as great as it can be.”

A young girl from Gear City, Karla Eoland is the daughter of esteemed inventor, Blake Eoland. A young soul with a love for wrenches and bolts, she loves tinkering with machinery just as her mother does. As a child, she always had an interest in the mechanical Pokémon her mother had made to fill the space left when Pokémon were no longer allowed to associate with humans.

With her mother, Kai would always venture into the scrap heaps of Nexus #05, looking for materials to use for her mother’s devices. While separated from her mother, she ran into danger. A Klinklang appeared, attacking Kai. She was nearly killed on the spot, until an Aggron appeared, attacking the Klinklang and driving it away. Blake was able to get to Kai, carrying the injured, barely conscious girl back home. Looking over at the Aggron that had saved Kai, Blake felt like she’d seen the iron menace before. “So many years later, and you’re still helping me. Hope you didn’t mind me taking your armor back then.”

“Mama,” Kai had just woken up from her exhaustion, seemingly okay despite having almost died. “Why are Aether Cadets the only ones allowed to tame Pokémon?” Blake was taken aback by her daughter’s strange question. While she couldn’t give the girl a definitive answer

“So, only Aether is allowed to tame them?” Kai smiled, confidence shining in her grin. “Then I want to be with an Aether Cadet, too!” Blake was surprised to hear her daughter’s words, knowing the girl had just nearly been killed by the Pokémon she wants to tame. At first Blake was sceptical, unsure if her child had what it takes to become an Aether Employee.

“But there’s other people like me that could run into trouble like that! I bet if I was as tough as that, I could be there to help people like that.” Kai’s smile shined brighter as she spoke. Blake knew how romanticized her words were, though. ”You raised a smart little girl, mother! I know I can become a Cadet!”

Blake let out a chuckle as she heard her daughter’s words. “Alright, then. But if you fail too much, I’m letting them make you a Space Janitor.” And with that, Blake enrolled Kai in Space Aether’s First Academy. 6 years have passed since then.

He joined Academy #1 at the age of 15, making few friends there. He got a job at a nearby store, and quickly rose to be the manager.

Mega ultra important note:

DECIMALS ALWAYS ROUND DOWN ON EVERY STEP IN EVERY CALCULATION. WHEN YOU SEE A DECIMAL, ROUND IT DOWN QUICK.

(i.e. if your Nature is Brave and your SPE is 99, you'll only deduct 9 from it, not 9.9; if your SP.ATK is 238, you'll only get 238/20 = 11.9 = 11 * 10 = 110 power; if your EPs in a single stat are 76, you won't get that 0.2 [as in, 76/5 = 15.2] to up your stats an additional bit, so calc it as just 15)

EDIT: IC Chapter #00 is now out!
