Should I buy For Honor?

Okay, so I'll be lonely this Valentine's day, so I thought: Why not buy For Honor. It looks awesome, but I've heard that it's quite boring and repetitive, let alone unrealistic in some ways (a samurai slaying a full armored knight for example...)

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to participate in the beta, but I was wondering if any of you have. If you have, please be as kind as to let me know your experience with the game. I really don't know if it's worth the money... (60 euros)

Thank you :)

Why not just buy it on Steam, and if you dislike it, refund it before 2 hours have passed?

I'm not sure if it will be available on Steam since it's a Ubisoft game. Do you happen to know if Ubisoft has the same regulations for refunding?

Not sure yet, waiting for the public beta.

Will there be an open beta?? That changes everything!

From some quick googling it seems to be so. The game gets removed from Uplay when refunded through Steam.

A huge thanks to both of you! I will definitely try the open beta out!

I ended up buying it because I remembered a $30 gift card I got a while back and because somebody reminded me it was supposed to have a story campaign.

Speaking of which, I'm not that far into the campaign cuz I got pulled away by an invite to multiplayer, but I really enjoyed what I played so far and have been interested by the story.

Also of some note, the full game has a 4th warrior for each faction that wasn't in the beta. One those is a heavyset dude for the samurai and he seems to be immune to to getting knocked down or being picked up. Pretty sure I saw one solo 4 bots, 3 at the same time.

1. What keeps me uninterested in this game is Ubisoft and UPlay.

2. And from my point of view, the controls doesn't seem that good, even though I haven't tried it.

1. Huh?

2. takes some getting used to, but as an attack and defense system goes, way better than any souls game.

I played the beta and I enjoyed it a lot. What worries me is the fact that it is likely to become repetitive rather quickly. I mean, there are three game modes, that's it. Even though it's a lot of fun, I'm still not certain if it is worth the 60 euros.

But you mentioned a campaign. I didn't know there was a campaign mode to be honest. Could you tell me more about it?

I don't wanna spoil too much but... first chapter starts off with the knights. You remember the woman speaking in the intro cutscene and how she has some guy shoot the viking with the arrow to make them keep fighting right when they looked like they were gonna call a truce? That's Apollyon. You start off as a warden, participating in part of her rise to power and ideology as she fights other lords and pushes back the vikings. That's chapter 1. Chapter two is where you play a viking as they rise up after those immediate events (which is where I am and about to start). Third chapter is the samurai faction, but I don't know much about that. But I can guess at where the story's going.

Obviously, you get to play as different characters that factions during those storylines. With the knights, I actually played only 3 of the units, but one of 'em was the new one and the one I didn't play was the one I mained during the beta, so I don't really feel cheated.

If there are any more chapters after those 3, I am not able to see 'em yet.

It's kind of annoying in that there's a second tutorial that pretty much is the same as the tutorial it makes you play when you first start the game. Other than that, it's pretty much what you'd expect. Dashing in and taking over zones, killing minion soldiers, and attacking captains and bosses. There's been one sort of escort mission, and there are a couple of places where you get to use the drop down to ambush an enemy below you. There's been an area where you were fighting on thin ice and you either had to use mobility or make it a part of your strategy. So there is some variety in location and stuff.

They also have hidden things to find/collect. Each level has some groups of barrels or boxes for you to break to find a particular item (an emblem or whatever I guess) and there are different things you can look at and activate to hear Apollyon give backstory and history, that are also tracked unlockable things. It's just rather simple stuff, but not all of 'em are obvious to find.

Leveling up in campaign and getting perks or things to activate is much faster than in multiplayer and carries across all the units you play as, so that helps the pacing along and gives you useful powers.

Also, the warden, the beginning character your play as for the knights has Akihiko's voice, and it kind suits his characterization perfectly.

I could stream some of the campaign if you think it would help.

I looked into it, and it really looks impressive! Do you happen to actively stream? Because if you do I am likely to watch it!

Well, it would probably be easier to save and upload some clips.

Here's one of pvp. Got kinda lucky with this game. Got some good teammates who saved me at least twice. It started off against 2 people and 2 bots but those bot slots got filled, and towards the end one guy rage quit. I don't really count the bot kills towards anything, but I did have some decent 1v1s and 1v2's. Like that first kill, it was 1v2 for a bit and I killed the human player first, not the bot.

remember

When surrounded: Keep Calm and chive on defend until you get revenge built up.

My feats:

1- gain health and stamina when killing soldiers. It always helps to do area attacks to gain health and not lose too much stamina at the same time. Helps build renown and push middle points.

2- gain high damage reduction for a short time after parrying attacks. This clip didn't show it off much, but I'm pretty decent at parries and making this guy tankier is always good.

3- protected revive and grants allies health. this what happened when one guy tried to stop me from reviving but I tanked it like a champ and still revived that guy. No idea what the grants allies health thing is though. When you revive someone they revive at full health. I dunno if it heals nearby alive allies or if it gives the revived person extra health. just the protected revive pretty useful if you ask me. I'll have to play test in a custom match or something to figure it out.

4- Catapult- does massive damage over an area. renown level 4 is hard to get in a match and when I do get it, I usually don't notice. strictly better than the medium damage over an area that it the only other option I have unlocked atm.

The campaign looks pretty solid. I absolutely love the concept behind this game. I remember the Deadliest Warrior DLC for Chivalry being complete trash so in a way this is the true Deadliest Warrior experience.

However, I cannot, WILL NOT accept the fact that this game's multiplayer utilizes a peer-to-peer connection during matches. Like who's the genius who thought having an easily abusable connection in a reactive and competitive game was a good idea? Absolutely fucking stupid.

PSN has informed me that For Honor is having a free weekend, starting this thursday and ending sunday. I gave my game to my brother to play but if any of you are interested in trying out the game, I'd download the game from PSN for the weekend and join ya.

And supposedly they're working on changing over to dedicated servers.
