If you could make your own ability...

There's a thread for making your own moves and one for making your own Mega Evolutions, so why not one for abilities too? (sorry if there actually is one already, I've never seen one)

I'd make one that gives immunity to Curse. All other kinds of status conditions and ailments have a berry and/or item that cures it or an ability or type that's immune to it. Curse doesn't. The name of the ability might be something like "Purity".

Another one I think would be neat is a reverse Wonder Guard, where instead of only being damaged by super effective hits, the Pokemon is damaged only by not very effective (and maybe neutral) hits. This could be something exclusive to one Pokemon like Shedinja, and have decently high HP unlike Shedinja, so it'd be tanky. The name of the ability could be something like "Super Guard"?

I like the idea of the inverse wonder guard. How about something like 'rebelious' where the damage boost from not very effective and super effective are swapped. i.e. if an ice type had this ability it would take .5 damage from fire, rock, steel, and fighting; and 1.5 from ice type attacks.

So like a self-contained inverse battle? I suppose it'd be interesting, especially since it seems Gamefreak doesn't seem to actually want to do anything with the concept as it is.

I like that ability. It would be very good for types that have a lot of weaknesses like Ice and Grass.

Give:

- The rest of the -ate abilities (i.e. Pixilate)

- The rest of the absorbing / boosting abilities (i.e. Water Absorb, Flash Fire, Lightningrod)

- An ability that has a 30% chance to make the opponent fall asleep when they come into contact with it (similar to Static or Flame Body) and maybe an ability that has a 30% chance to freeze as well if you really wanted

- An ability that automatically sets up Magic Room / Wonder Room / Trick Room (similar to weather-inducing abilities)

- Sand Force and Sand Rush for Hail (imo Hail should already have those effects)

- Special versions of Pure/Huge Power, Intimidate

- Speed version of Intimidate

- Weak Armor for Special Defense

etc. for those abilities who should have other versions of themselves for different stats (I personally think those abilities that have the same effect as others should be changed like Pure/Huge Power or Battle/Shell Armor)

I like the -ate abilities, but they do get a bit excessive by changing their type AND boosting their power by 30%. Seems a bit broken to me.

I posted this on the 'make your own mega' thread, but I like the ability poison touch, and it would be cool if they nudged it up a bit for a Mega evolution of a poison type(preferably Arbok) and make it go from 30% chance to poison to 30% chance to BADLY poison when this pokemon touches you.

Minimalist: Multi-hit moves against this pokemon hit only once.

Juggernaut: Takes double damage from entry hazards - removes them upon entry.

Classless: All moves have the same priority while this pokemon is on the field.

An ability that creates trick room on switch in, Chubb?

You've just discovered what Primal Dialga will have in the Gen4 remakes!

Anyway, I'd like an ability that works like Gale Wings but for Electric moves, granting then Priority. Could be called Hyperdrive or something. Also, a range of abilities that create a Terrain upon entry would be cool; I do think Pokémon will introduce more Terrains, much like Reborn's Field Effects, in the future, so mons that can create Grassy Terrain etc on entry for five turns would be good to promote them.

I have one that would be exclusive to Mega Quagsire, I love Quagsire as many of you may already know, and I came up with an ability that ties in with its Religion that I came up with, "Godly Light" it makes it so that any move that restores only 50% of health will now heal 75% or 100%, granted it would be pretty OP, only a select few Pokemon could get this ability, I don't know just a thought... (Moves such as, Recover and Roost)

Another quick note is that maybe Pokemon with moves that deal damage and also recover (i.g Giga Drain and Drain Punch) will recover 50% more health than usual so they would recover all the health they took, instead of only 50%

Gonna bookmark this so I can add some of these abilities to my mod. If it gets released, I'll happily credit whoever posted the concept. ^^
Though I don't have the text file of what I've made already, I've made nearly all weather-related abilities to have "brothers" in other weather. Like a sun version of Ice Body, appropriately named Photosynthesis. I also have abilities that make Magic Room, Trick Room, and Wonder Room already, but I don't know what to name them yet.

I'm also planning on adding a custom Ability for Mega Dodrio, almost like a Parental Bond; but instead of having 50% power at the next attack; It will have three hits, all at 50% attack power. So it's still the same calculation as Parental Bond. It just has more chances for crits, flinch, etc etc..

I REALLY REALLY like the Juggernaut ability, so when I get my laptop back, I'll try my hands into coding that.

Currently I just made Pickup remove entry hazards upon entry after taking damage, but that's cool too. ^^

hmm I wonder what pushing the boundaries of abilities would be? I mean Godly Light is pretty OP, but it's not Wonder Guard OP. Maybe something like.... Oh I got it.

Sadist: while this pokemon is out, all healing moves now remove health instead of recover it.

That's rather like a godly version of marvel scale isn't it?

My own two cents: Overburn. Fire moves do 30% more damage and have double the chance to burn, but consume twice the PP.

And likewise, there should be an ability that amplifies the power of Light-based moves (Flash Cannon, Tri Attack, Lustre Purge, Beam moves) rather like Mega Launcher does for pulse-based moves. Call it Refracted Lens? Laser Focus?

Specialist: All physical non-contact moves this pokemon uses becomes special

And cause we already have one of the 7 deadly sins, here are the rest :P :
Lust: Upon entering the opponent becomes infatuated if it is the opposite gender of the user
Greed: User gets 50% more experience and doubles the prize money of trainers (non-competitive cause why not )
Wrath: Powers up fighting moves in a pinch
Pride: User's stats can't be lowered even by moves it uses on its own
Sloth: No pokemon on the field can use priority moves (except protect/detect)
Envy: If the opponent pokemon has any boosted stat the user deals 50% more damage

Ethereal: This pokemon is unaffected by normal and fighting type.

Phantom touch: This pokemon's moves don't make contact.

Iron foot: Kicks deal 20% more damage.

how would that work against Skill-Link Pokemon?

what would take priority? (priority based on the pokemons speed? based on 'when it was swapped in'?)

Would Mega-Heracross attack five times with Rockblast or just once, against a Minimalist?

Ability for Mega/Primal Ice Types:

Ice Age

(Ice-Type equivalent to "Primordial Sea" and "Desolate Land")

unleashes a heavy Hailstorm, preventing the change of weather with a weather move or inferior weather ability.

Same effect as Hail, but also halves the strength of Fire, Fighting and Water attacks through the freezing cold, and increases the strength of Ice-Type moves by x1.5

Sheer Colds accuracy is now calculated with [(level of user - level of target) +50]% (instead of +30).

Ice Age also grants the effects of Snow Cloak to all Ice-Type Pokemon (they don't need to have it), and Ice Body recovers 1/8 of the Pokemons max HP instead of 1/16

My thoughts:

Many Pokemon with Snow Cloak and Ice Body need to set up Hail, but Ice is a very fragile type, where setting it up without Hailwarning can be very risky - therefore Ice Age grants the evasive boost for all Ice Types, and they can additionally from a stronger Ice Body effect to grant them survivability with regeneration.

Since Ice has so many weaknesses I decided to not totally negate any (since fire is already negated by Prim.-Sea) I decided to half the effectiveness of Fire, Fighting and Water so you can still use them but not that effectiveley.

Note that some weaknesses, like Rock, are not 'countered'!

I gave the boost to Ice-Type moves to make it on paar with Rain/Sunny Day... seriously why doesn't hail give a natural boost? but only strenghtens blizzard? (yeah... the minimal turn based damage... it does soooooo much...)

Sheer Cold boost - makes it a 50% accuracy move when used on a Pokemon of the same level - it gives it more potential to be used - The cold is just so intense during Ice age that it just made sense in my head to give it a boost.

Possible Pokemon:

Mega/Primal-Arcticuno

Mega/Primal-Kyurem

Mega/Primal-(whatever comes in Sun/Moon)

Think of this double:

M-Arcticuno with Ice Age + Ice Body Avalugg with Leftovers!

Avalugg with Physical Bulk with Evasion and regeneration each turn!

your only hope are special Rock (Power Gem or Ancient Power) or Steel (Mirror Shot, Flash Cannon or Doom Desire) to break this thing... or get rid of M-Arcticuno

If only Avalugg would have a move that forces you to attack it...

Maybe a defensive Download that ups a defense based on the opponent's highest attack stat.

Also, since we already touched on Dialga's possible primal ability:

Palkia's primal abilty--Contact with this pokemon has a chance to swap the contacter

We seem to agree on PDialga's Trick Room Weather ability, but imo PPalkia ought to have one for Gravity. It makes sense in a way, since space-warp and stuff, and PPalkia will never miss its insanely strong Hydro Pumps or what-have-you. Call them 'Temporal Shift' and 'Spatial Shift' if you will.

Also, PGiratina could have an ability that matches its association with reversions. Let it have an ability that acts like Topsy Turvy + Contrary when active. If it hits the field, all stat changes to any active Pokemon are reversed, and any subsequent stat changes also are reversed as long as it is active. This implies that PGiratina can switch in on a MegaMence with two Dragon Dances under its belt, and instantly turn it into a -2,-2. It also means it can spam Draco Meteor! (also means anything else that uses a stat-lowering move will also derive the reversed boosts instead, so it's not unexploitable, yet fittingly borked for the PokeSatan.) Idk on a name, though. Reverse Warp?

More an ability for a super tank

Contingency: When hit with a super effective move, def and sp def boost 1 stage, but super effective moves do 75% more damage instead of 50%

Super effective moves do 100% more damage, so 125%?

Insanity: When this Pokémon is confused, moves do 50% more damage.

Friend Boost: This Pokémon's allies deal 25% more damage. (Distribution similar to Friend Guard)

Extra Blubber: This Pokémon's special defense stat is doubled. (Probably Seel only)

Positivity: Negative stat stages act like Positive stat stages.
